Robert has never poured me a glass that I haven't enjoyed. I absolutely love Leek & Thistle. The sommelier, Robert, is so incredibly knowledgeable about wines and they carry a wonderful variety. If there is a special story behind the wine or region, he probably knows it. This is one of my favorite places to come on Friday afternoon after a long stressful week. The bar is so inviting, and it's also a great place for a private event. His wife is also a wonderful cook, and I rarely leave without taking home some soup or chicken salad for later, not to mention a bottle of wine. This place is the perfect hang out and take out spot. This place focuses on wine, beer, restaurant quality take home food. My wife and I did a wine flight. We picked two whites at random and let the bartender pick two reds. The flights were great. We did not try the take home food but it all looked fantastic In short, this place is great local spot to enjoy a good drink. The bartender is friendly and knowledgeable. Their soups are delicious. You can easily purchase frozen meals and soups which are made weekly. When I initially entered the store, the male behind the bar was a bit standoffish, however he was soon replaced by a lovely woman who assisted me in making my purchases. I will most certainly purchase more on my next visit to Richmond. read more

Amazing gem - walked in last night after dinner and decided to stay for a glass of wine while my wife browsed ... turned a quick dinner out into a legitimate date night. The wine was excellent, service fun and the atmosphere is just warm and inviting. When we left a tub of chicken salad found its way into our bag (thanks to the owner). Today - we opened it for lunch and WOW ... the best chicken salad ever. My wife and I were fighting over the last scrapes. I am certain based on the experience last night and the chicken salad today that the rest of the to-go meals will be equally impressive. I've been buying Mela's delicious meals from St. Stephen's Market for years and am so thrilled that she has her own store now, in addition. Her meals are filled with flavor, are healthy, and colorful. Her concept is unique with so many frozen homemade meals to buy, and place in the freezer at home. On those days when my husband and I wonder "what are we going to have for supper?"... we remember that "Oh... we have some of Mela's meals to select from!" We let one defrost in the frig during the day and warm it for our evening meal. So easy, so good! Also, all you have to do is talk to her for a couple of minutes to know that she cares so much for quality of food. Her enthusiasm for sharing her creative meals is authentic. read more

The food is delicious, with an assortment of soups and entrees that include (but are certainly not limited to) vegan and vegetarian options. As others have mentioned, their Chicken Salad is absolutely outstanding. The wines are very reasonably priced and Robert's encyclopedic knowledge of different varietals and wine regions can add an educational aspect to sipping the wines they pour by the glass as well as bottles to take home with you. Had a quick dinner and some wine at the wine bar in Leek & Thistle. They actually don't serve the items that they have for reheating. It is more of a grocery with small batch prepared meals and wine to go. The wine bar is nice though but they shut down on the early side (7pm). We showed up just before 6 pm to eat sandwiches they sold in there the cold heat up for us. They also have some light snacks for sale at the bar. Anyway, we also ordered a bottle of wine to share and open up at the bar. They charge a $10 corkage fee but I must admit I'm confused since we bought the bottle there. But the wine was so inexpensive($12 plus $10 corkage), it's not a big deal. Also, we did feel a bit rushed. I get Robert (the sommelier) was probably trying to make sure he closed up by 7pm, but we didn't even finish our wine. He had us boxed and corked up and ready to go within a half hour. Oh well, I'd still go back to try some of their meals, but to-go only. read more
