We drove to BWI from Lancaster to catch our flight back to Nashville. We intended on stopping at our favorite crab cake restaurant near BWI but we arrived at the airport too late. First, believe it or not, Waze took us down a road that had a bridge out. This is only one of a few times Waze has steered me wrong. Once we finally got on the road, traffic was insane (I'm sure you do believe that). We made it in time to return our car and drop our bags. My new precheck card never made it onto my flight profile so after waiting in the precheck line, the TSA turned me around to stand the "riff-raff line" as it is called by a close relative. I already established that we were late. Now we're REALLY late. We'd already missed dinner and I knew I couldn't make it back to Nashville without eating. As we walked toward the food court, the lines were intimidating. The only reasonable line was at LeeAnn Chin and I generally won't eat fast food Chinese. (I worked at a Chinese restaurant in college and am quite picky.) I let my husband do the ordering. Noodles instead of rice, orange chicken and firecracker shrimp. It was really good, not "real" Chinese food, but good for Chinese fast food. And especially, good for an airport food court. We have a flight to BWI in a couple of weeks. Something quick, easy & fast while waiting on a flight departure. Although the rice wasn't as fresh as it could have been, the bourbon chicken was and couldn't have been any better. Was relieved to find this place, and overjoyed that you have the option of skipping the carbs (fried rice or noodles) to have a paleo-friendly meal of just stir-fried dead animals and veggies! The veggies were relatively fresh in both appearance and taste, and more importantly: competently prepared (i.e. not overcooked to death) and the non-descript brown sauce that places like this inevitably drench everything in, was neither oily nor MSG-saturated. So, for $13 I got a huge (2-3lbs?) box of perfectly palatable (even enjoyable, dare I say), non-toxic and without the usual airport penalty/tax of extortionate prices for half-assed Sysco food. Even the server and the cashier appeared to be perfectly nice human beings who did not scowl, avoid eye contact, grumble or growl while doing their jobs...daaaaaaayum!!! Can you tell your humble author has very modest expectations when dining at airports? Anyway, am so glad I didn't fall for the $20 burger made from frozen patties accompanied by frozen fries at the "Tap-house" just 300ft away, which would have entailed waiting to order, waiting for the food to be brought out, waiting for the check to be produced, waiting for them to run the credit card and give me a receipt, AND paying the usual 15-25% tip on top of the already-inflated prices. Alright, picture if you will, it is very early in the morning around three and you are waiting for your flight. You are so hungry and you sprint to the nearest McDonalds to find a massive line. I found the food to be ok, not on the bad side or on the holy molly this is real side. But anyone who loves panda express would love it. We took a combo or lomein, rice, beans and pepper chicken. All were average, i would give panda express an extra point on the taste of chicken. The service was awesome and the lady who helped us very friendly making exceptions for one entree to be half and half which was highly appreciated. I asked for a double serving of eggs with a side of potatoes and was pleasantly surprised at both the amount of eggs and the taste of both the eggs and the potatoes. No skimpy 2-egg plate here, it was a whole LOTTA eggs with perfectly cooked potatoes on the side. They potatoes were hot and crispy on the outside with the right amount of salt. I've had their plates before, but now it's just the salad that I'll choose. For airport food, they're okay, if the food is fresh, but if it's been sitting for a bit, not so much. The salad...it's simple, and deceptively different in size when they put it in a big, but flat container. The real bummer is that there is not that much chicken and since the salad is made "Off site" you can't get more if you ask. You can't even get a side of chicken from the line (I've tried) as they will charge full price for a meal. The Thai Peanut Dressing is good and I always ask for a 2nd one as the one they give is small. The staff is friendly. The prices are a bit high, but it's an airport concession, so it's expected. We only had about 30 min to spare before our flight and some of the more popular restaurants wrapping around the food court. The line for this place was pretty steady so they had trouble fulling stocking every food option. My husband and I ended up splitting mongolian chicken, fried rice and beef and broccoli. Unfortunately they did not offer brown rice. The chicken was pipping hot, had some kick but was not overly spicy. I thought the food was about the same quality as your neighborhood take out place and it wasn't too greasy. The portion sizes were generous enough that I was able to split it without getting hungry on the 6 hour flight. I'm also on a Keto diet which would have meant taking apart an egg mcmuffin or steak egg and cheese bagel. However Leeann Chin has two typs of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, and strawberry cream cheese wontons. I decided to get the asian scrambled eggs with a side of bacon. The bacon honestly didn't look appealing. In the asian scramble they included red pepper, onion, and sausage in the eggs. The eggs were delicious and tasted light! The bacon really surprised me. It was exactly how I like it - crispy. As a bonus they have diet mountain dew on the fountain with free refills. I wish I could try the strawberry cream cheese wontons but I am very happy with this place and it cost about what McD was going to cost but I got much more food.
