I really love donuts, I really do!…read more Lee's Donuts has arrived in Steveston Village. I was quite surprised actually at this new move into this particular area. An iconic donut shop popular on Granville Island for decades with locals & tourists popping in year round, Lee's Donuts has expanded recently with several locations all over Metro Vancouver. Am I complaining ... nah! Steveston Village is definitely growing out of its 'sleepy village' moniker via several TV & movie shoots taking place here year after year. It's about time it gets funky here via a cool donut shop. My favourite donut here is the Honey Dip. Don't get it confused with the Glazed Donut! I've tried several other flavours but have found the - Honey Dip to be the one for me. Each to his own they say, so why not pop in & find what flavour makes your world go round. This new location has just opened so they're still working out the kinks, so please be patient if service levels are not yet up to par. BTW, if you are driving over here wanting to get real close, I wish you well trying to find parking. Please see my Granville Island review for Lee's Donuts for what first got me excited about this donut shop. Hmmmmmm donuts!

First thing off the top - I highly recommend you place an order on-line or via cell ahead of time…read morebefore coming down here. This location is strictly a kitchen & not a restaurant. If you're not sure about flavours, call & ask them like I did - clear good explanations for each flavour available on the day you place your order. I ordered 6 flavours - Black Sesame, Elote, Tres Leches, Mangonada, Churro & Original Glaze. I thoroughly enjoyed each & everyone of them! Mochi donuts are chewy & sweet. How to best enjoy them - because they come in several flavours, you'll really want to try all of the half dozen or more you order. I'd highly recommend you cut up each donut with a steak knife (better cut & makes it easier) into 4 pieces. Then try each flavour out. Eating one whole one by itself could actually ruin the experience of enjoying the rest of them. Put the rest away at room temperature for later. If you put them in the fridge overnight, warm them up slightly before eating them. Keep in mind that this is a very delicate to the palate treat & not like regular donuts you might have weekly with coffee. So to truly enjoy mochi donuts, take a break between orders of about a few weeks or you just won't enjoy them the way they're meant to be enjoyed. Take advantage of the current Yelp promo check-in & get 15% off your order. Parking is limited & tight here so bring patience.

The donuts are really chewy and I like that you can rip them apart easily to share. It's a good balance of salty-sweet dough but my favourite is definitely the mochi texture. I don't usually eat a lot of sweets so the glaze on top can be a bit too sweet for me (I got mango, and peach oolong flavours). I think for the price and experience, I'd come back again to try the other flavours!
