My husband purchased General Tso's chicken and Orange chicken with white rice and Vegetable fried rice for my birthday. The chicken in both dishes were so hard you could not chew it. The rice and vegetables were OK so we filled up on that. We have ordered from here before and had no issues. We will not be ordering from here again. UPDATED 04/08 in response to a recent review: Formerly an old Grand Union Market (with the noisy automatic doors), Lee Lin has been the Chinese takeout/delivery place of choice by my family for almost 20 years only because the choices for Chinese food are VERY LIMITED in the Albia and Wynantskill area. Lee Lin is the only game for Chinese food on Pawling Ave and Okinawa (former A&P) in Wynantskill is better for Japanese food & sushi. The only other Chinese place, the Happy Garden (merged with Okinawa) closed down a few years ago and it's now Chris's Pizza. Remember Mango's Pizza from back in the day. We could make the drive across the river to Albany County for expanded Asian choices such as Dragon Buffet, P.F. Chang's, Bangkok Thai, CCK, Ichiban (Albany & Guilderland), and too many more places to name, but my family prefers sticking close to home and orders delivery from Lee Lin. However, I enjoy venturing out to try different Chinese places (I've reviewed a few hundred Chinese restaurants on Yelp). Lee Lin serves up basic Chinese dishes including lunch and dinner combinations at reasonable prices. My favorite dishes are the Shrimp Lo Mein, General Tsos Chicken and Hot & Sour Soup. The Egg Rolls here are thick and very good. We order around $30 worth of food for the whole family and still have leftovers for the next couple days. Back in the mid 1990s, Lee Lin also offered a small Chinese buffet in the next room, but that was very short lived. In general, the food here is not the greatest we've ever had, but good and filling enough to satisfy the hunger. I decided to try this restaurant because it had free delivery over $15. I should just have paid a delivery fee elsewhere. The entree (4 Seasons) had no sauce. It was tasteless except for the broccoli which tasted "off" and the one piece of lobster. I purchased this item because what I'd normally buy (Happy Family) was $18.00 for a pint. Are you kidding me??? $18.00?? The beef lo mein was terrible as well. The egg roll was a good size but tasted like baby powder. The crab stick (it came with two) was tasty, as was the pork egg foo young, though I needed to douse it with duck sauce (because it didn't come with any sauce of its own). But those two items didn't make up for the rest of the food. I won't order from here again. read more

Well, if you are looking for middle of the road chinese that is in good quantity and average quality, then this is your joint. Nothing spectacular, but also, nothing overly bad. Food is always consistent and in plentiful quantity. I have had them deliver once before also, and it was brought promptly and was still hot. This will always score points with me. The other thing I like is when I order takeout, the let me grab my own sauces. I have no use for anything but the chinese mustard! I'm able to grab a bunch and leave the soy and sweet and sour behind. :-) The one thing on the menu that I really really like and order repeatedly in the Black Pepper Chicken dish. For some reason, this particular thing is not on alot of chinese menus, and when it is, you can bet I am getting at least a pint. It's that good. I originally found it in a supermarket locally that has a chinese food bar. I have since been looking elsewhere for it and Lee Lin did not disappoint. The other bonus is that it is very close to home. I could walk there if I needed to. So in summary, consistent and average food, good quantity, delivered hot and spiced properly. I chose this place for takeout tonight, because it was close and it received high reviews. After having the food and dealing with the service, I have no idea why people rate Lee Lin so high. Ordering was easy enough and we were quoted 30 minutes. An hour and fifteen minutes passes and we call to ask if they're still bringing our order. We ordered after a major storm so we figured that was why they might be late, seeing some roads were closed. The woman handling the phone says "we canceled the order, the driver can't make it to your house". Guess what? I made it there. All seemed surprised and taken aback by my arrival. Funny, I arrived via a fairly main road(Campbell). Putting it bluntly my sense of direction sucks, I can't even tell you some of the streets I take to my hair dresser or gym and I've been to both dozens of times. We get the food home and it's warm, which is good enough. Most places are closed or I can't get to them so everyone was just happy to have something to eat. Then we actually start eating the food and it's disgusting. First off was the sesame chicken, it was salty, had a light syrup taste and the texture was off. Crispy walnut shrimp, it had a ketchup or some other sort of tomato tasting base to it, was soggy, and had the shells and tales left on. Google Crispy walnut shrimp, there's no hint of red sauce to most versions. Lo Mein, was absolutely plain tasting, my dog didn't even want it. After a few bites I said to everyone "just stop, and put it in the bag. I'll take it out to the trash.". We ended up having bagels for dinner, should have done that in the first place. I don't think this was on off night. As I walked in, the woman at the counter was taking orders and seemed on top of things. We ordered about $50 worth of food. I can only attest to the spare ribs, won ton soup, and fried rice. The fried rice is delicious...better then any others in the same class- it reminded me of a Chinese restaurant in Mohawk Mall in the eighties I frequented. All the old timers will surely remember this place- it was next door to tee shirt express where we used to get those cool 3/4 length shirts with those classic 80s iron on decals of our favorite bands! Ok so anyways back on topic... Boneless spare ribs were lean, and won ton soup was garden variety. Oh, the egg rolls, I forgot, I tend to like them more fried then baked, if that makes sense. All was really tasty on my end of the order. BF ordered vegetable fried rice, ( too many mushrooms) sesame chicken ( too pasty), eggplant with garlic sauce, (if it is not Italian eggplant, it just seems unfaithful and inferior) - and crab claws. We also received steamed dumplings, which were very good, and crab rangoon. I never really developed a palate for ethnic foods outside Italian heritage and do not pretend to be a worldly connoisseur. I am a neophobic, stemming from early childhood so some of my yelp reviews may be slightly jaded or lacking complete enthusiasm. Overall, Lee Lin had a nice balance of flavors, not a ton of MSG, and what people in our area associate with typical Chinese food. It is worth a try. If you order $50 or more they throw in a few free items... a nice scroll wall calendar, won ton soup, and I believe an extra couple egg rolls. Delivery was super quick. read more

Forty minutes later I call back and am told that "it's too far and they're waiting for an order out by me." So if no one orders I'm not getting it??? Cool thanks. Lee Lin used to be some premiere American Chinese fare. Unfortunately that's no longer the case. They've gone to the "chicken" that is just breading with mystery mush in the middle that you get with the other bottom feeders. I'm giving 3 stars because they still have hand made egg rolls. Lee Lin remains one of East Troy's mainstays for decent takeout Chinese food. Not great, not terrible. Been ordering since 2002... Ordering can sometimes be a challenge unless you are fortunate enough to have someone answer who speaks English. Either way they are pleasant at least. Favorite (unhealthy) Lee Lin dish is the sweet and sour chicken, sauce always prepared and delivered on the side so not soggy. Usually very good but last Saturday night I got more very crispy over cooked chicken scraps than the normally heavenly batter dipped fried chicken chunks. Egg rolls and shrimp egg rolls are always good starters as are the scallion pancakes. I strongly suggest the Young Chow fried rice, if you've never had it (not a dish unique to Lee Lin) you might enjoy the lighter flavor of minimal soy sauce added during the frying which very often overpowers fried rice. As far as the rest of the menu goes, what I've had has generally been good, however no enough to earn a fourth star, but the hit to miss ratio is high enough to earn it a solid three stars from me. Be sure to note free items that come with every order above their minimum. The value of the free item increases as the order total increases. read more

I place a ordered which the restaurant made it wrong and when I called the first time the manager agree to fix and agree to send it over as soon as possible after me waiting 30 minutes I called back and apparently the new manager refuse to fix my order after explaining my conversation with the prior manager the second manager say he will call me back in 3 minutes which again I waited 30 more minutes. On my 3rd called to the restaurant a woman answer she say she was the manager she was extremely rude would not let me talk and say I don't know what I wanted her to do she keep saying that the people I spoke prior was a answering company. The woman starting saying that the restaurant didn't have a delivery person to bring me the other and if I really wanted my order to come to the restaurant. She was extremely rude has no customer services experience and I have been a loyal customer for over a 10 years. Today tried to order, girl said we do not deliver to your area but since it is slow they will be there 30-40 min. 64 min later we call to cancel- girl said it's on its way, takes a long time to get there (15 min tops????). So we canceled. Driver shows up and wasn't happy-well, neither were we. Service has gone down hill really fast. Edit! Restaurant called to harass then text us because we refused the food! What kind of business is this? We always pay cash and give generous tips but by mutual agreement- will never give this business a chance again!! read more

Lee Lin is awful and a terrible Chinese restaurant. I ordered the sesame chicken, fried rice, and sweet and sour chicken. The sesame chicken was like rubber and I could barely eat it. The sweet and sour chicken was disgusting. It tasted like it doused with lime because it was incredibly sour, but there was no sweetness at all. The chicken itself didn't even taste like chicken. The fried rice was average at best, but it lacked flavor. Overall, Lee Lin is terrible and I suggest going to Lee Sun instead. read more

Personally, I have never, ever been disappointed with Lee Lin's service, and I have always ordered delivery. Food arrives hot, fresh, and on time. The delivery driver is a fantastic man who is always polite and patient with how long it takes me to run down from the third floor. He's also willing to park and hand me my food when I forget shoes. Lee Lin also surprises me with free extras every so often. Who can argue with personal service like that? I think the shining stars of Lee Lin's menu are the crab rangoon, the dumplings, and the egg drop soup. No matter what I order, it's always delicious, but those three appetizers/additions are simply fantastic. I've never had as good of pan-fried or steamed dumplings anywhere else, short of the nice but expensive sit-down restaurants. If you've never tried Lee Lin before, you really need to give it a try. I actually ordered from here sight unseen. We're riding home and all of a sudden we're ordering take out from the car. Being unfamiliar territory, i order a basic moogoo gai pan combo. Huge portions match great flavors. Chicken was very tender, slightly under salted for a usually bland dish. Comes with pork fried rice, and I like that for a change it's more yellow than brown. A big fat stuffed egg roll, which is how I was feeling halfway through the meal. Wonton soup has a very subtle broth and 3 huge wontons in the small. I got a sample of the appetizer dumpling with the tangiest sauce that I ever had and dipped the eggroll in it too. After the fact, I asked if they had hunan, and they do and it's good. While I love Lee Lin's sister restaurant Lee Sun, I am very unimpressed by this one. I would have given them 1 star, but I am giving them 2 stars because their delivery driver was very nice and my food was delivered very quickly. However, I am disappointed in the fact that they have items on their menu that common in many if not all Chinese restaurants, but they are not serving what the actual dish is. In this particular case, I ordered the Chow Mein today and when it arrived, I was very clearly given Chop Suey. For those who do not know the difference, Chow Mein is a dish made with crispy stir fried noodles, you can get it with different kinds of proteins, but this does not change the fact that it is a type of noodle dish, a literal translation of the name "Chow Mein" is "stir-fried noodles". Chop Suey on the other hand is a mix of vegetables and if you choose, proteins served with or over a bed of cooked rice. When I spoke to the restaurant they told me that the dish they gave me is Chow Mein and insisted that they were correct. I have eaten this dish at countless Chinese restaurants from the creepy dive store in the middle of nowhere to upscale restaurants and unfortunately because I can not trust that what I am going to order is what I asked for, I not be purchasing from this restaurant again. read more

Lee Lin is all about deep fried foods, I stick with and enjoy the dishes that are bad for you. My personal fave is the black pepper chicken combo, with an occasional general tso's or sesame chicken for variety. The general tso's is probably the best dish they make, I would suggest ordering it very hot and enjoying the spicy goodness. Like all good restaurants, Lee Lin used to be better, but their general tso's is still better than the other restaurants. The meal is better, and they are not wary about adding pepper to the meal. The black pepper chicken is also quite spicy, and one of the few meals that actually make the mustard on offer at most Chinese restaurants tasty. Another being egg rolls, when hungry egg rolls and mustard - good, very good. Beyond these three dishes my experience has been limited and mixed, I was underwhelmed by their Singapore mei fun - the first time I've had a poor version of that dish. Don't go exploring the menu, stick with the ones I mentioned. Lee Lin isn't an eat in restaurant, they do have tables but you should eat elsewhere. Trust me, I ate there once with friends and the staff seemed uncomfortable. With takeout they are prompt, they have never gotten my order wrong but they do have a lot of turnover and the boss seems curt. But stick with the rules, and you'll be good. read more

This place has been my scope to try for awhile, well I tried it, the call to place the order was time consuming and eventually was wrong. I order two combo platter one orange chicken, the second was sesame chicken and the third was another orange chicken which I didn't order but the young lady taken the order was busy at the counter so wasn't paying attention. That being said the food was just okay wasn't horrible or made from other white meat that was not chicken, if anything the orange chicken was covered with too much sauce which was kinda thick and gooey. I did however like the spring rolls they were good flavor and not greasy , but I'm not going to return back here just for them. If I had to eat only one type of food for the rest of my life, it would probably be Chinese Food. And as a result, I'm pretty picky when it comes to Chinese food. I've ordered from Lee Lin a few times now, and it's always been consistently good. It's not the BEST I've had, but it beats a lot of places and is one of the better places in Troy. Plus they're open until midnight, as I work until 10 or later most nights, so it works with my schedule. Most recently I ordered the General Tso's chicken, and was pleasantly surprised when they asked how hot I wanted it. I love my food to be spicy, and I can never seem to find good spicy General Tso's. Lee Lin's was awesome. My fiancé got the General Tso's shrimp, and loved it. I tried a bite and enjoyed it as well. We also got the veggie dumplings, which weren't my favorite. They weren't necessarily bad, I just wasn't a huge fan. My one main complaint that I have, is that I wish they had more 2 Liters to choose from for soda. I've had my ups and downs with Lee Lin, but the fact of the matter is: it could be a hell of a lot worse. The Pros: - The house lo mein is TO DIE. Normally I don't care much for lo mein, but this is now a staple in every order I place. - Very good boneless spare ribs. I have yet to find better in the area. - The crab rangoon is amazing, and they give you sweet and sour sauce to dip it in. - Fast delivery. - You can pick your heat levels for each dish you order. - You can get free food, depending on how much money you spend. Anything from a free eggroll to a free pint of General Tso's. The Cons: - If you deviate away from the standard Chinese dishes (General Tso's, lo mein, fried rice, etc.) things get a little dicey. For instance, the Mongolian beef was nothing like I expected and didn't taste very good. - They use the same sticky, brownish-red sauce for General Tso's and sesame chicken, and probably anything else with a similar sauce. It's not bad, but sometimes it tastes a little burnt. - The people at the counter are generally nice, but the delivery people not as much. They're usually in such a rush that I'm surprised they don't throw my food on the porch and bolt when I take more than 30 seconds to answer the doorbell. I can definitely deal with the cons because at the end of the day, there's no better Chinese food than Lee Lin in the area.
