It's a welcome relief from the various terrible kebab and chicken shops that otherwise swamp this part of London, this place sells chips not fries and reminds you, if only briefly, of walks along the sea-front, boater hats and donkey rides, in short it injects a good healthy dose of Britishness right into your arteries. One of my colleagues told me of a place close by our old office that was good, and I guess it was here since it is the only place close to Frying Pan Alley. When I arrived I saw that it was a "chippy" and smiled since I had never been in one before. I had an hour till closing so did not dawdle. Went whole hog for the large cod and chips with a side of mushy peas - gotta have at least one veg. For dessert I had the Spotted Dick with Custard. Even though they were fairly close to closing the food was hot, fresh and delicious. Good to see real chips and malt vinegar. Again, they don't use vinegar in the US. Ambience was rustic and nothing fancy and also nothing pretentious. Server was a friendly fellow so service was great. Not the cheapest at £29 but worth it, especially since I was eating cheaply for the past 3 suppers. Well recommended - two thumbs up.

They were nice enough but didn't really have an easy to ready menu. The chips were decent although I asked for vinegar and they didn't taste much like anything. It was a very big portion of food for five quid and I would absolutely recommend it for a cheap lunch but I'm not sure if it's the best food in the area. Would go back.

My girlfriend and I find getting a fish each (I'd suggest haddock) and sharing a chips is more than enough for 2. Great for a take away and they even have some seats in the back. They had a refurbishment a few years back, updating their interior, so now it's bright and welcoming. Too many fish and chip places have gone down hill over the years, replaced by other fast food. The true stand outs, like Big Bite, have kept going strong - because they have a dedication to producing a quality product. They know what they do and they do it well. Unlike many plaices (sorry can't help myself), who use frozen fish or do pizza/chicken/burgers alongside their fish, these folks stay true to their roots, focusing on one product and excelling at it. I'd give 5*s if this was a google review, but I try to be a bit more reserved on Yelp. Needless to say I cannot recommend Big Bite enough.

It was so thrilling so see them make this right in front of you. It took awhile to learn that take away meant take out. No one knew what take out meant. We placed our order of four fish and chips. The owner took whole fish with the tail and head chopped off. It was fun to watch them dip the fish in batter and place in the fryer. Chips are not fries. Chips are thick cut potato wedges that are slightly fried and then salted (more of a steak fry). The owner took out the fish added vinegar to the fish and placed it on several piece of butcher paper. Yes it's fried food and the paper got very oily. All this for about $4.00 per person! He placed our fish, chips and tartar sauce in a bag. Service was quick and fast with delicious results. We took our meal back to our hostel as one of our party was not feeling well and was waiting for food. The fish was super yummy! The fish was fresh and tasty! The chips were thick and less cooked than American fries which means they soak up less oil. This was such a tasty meal and really hit the spot. I would definitely go back and have this anytime.
