It is an example of the typical hybrid of takeaway that is now prevalent within London. It serves burgers, kebabs, sausages et cetera as well as the aforementioned fish and chips. I had the old faithful cod and small chips here and I must say I was impressed for the pricetag. The cod was chunky, moist and full of flavour. The batter was decent enough but I have had better. The chips were fairly average, but at least they were not the heavily processed french fry type. As I was just walking through this part of town and needed a bite, I took a seat at the bar and ate there. The staff were really friendly and were more than happy to offer me a plethora of sources to eat with my meal. While I sat and ate, there was a clear testament to the popularity and reasonable prices here - the steady stream of customers!

I've never had anything better so I was prepared to dismiss authentic London fish and chips as nothing special. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! The fish was HUGE and I engulfed the whole thing with my fingers and consumed most of the chips as well. Normally I have to drench my chips (or fries) in ketchup to make it palatable, but the chips at Sea Breeze Fish Bar were the tastiest things I have ever had. So 10/10 for the fish, and 10/10 for the chips as well! The fish was so lightly battered that it looked almost naked. Fried to perfection with almost no residual grease. I didn't feel sick like I normally do after eating greasy food. The chips were a perfect size, not too big and starchy. I don't know how they made them but they were addictive and went down so easy. It's definitely worth making a detour here the next time I find myself in London.

The chips were deece, but again, a little undercooked. I love the british style of fries, but these were so undercooked, I tasted a little bit too much starch. The donairs look better.

Chipping Forecast ticks a lot of boxes: another restaurant on All Saints Road is always a good idea, sustainably sourced fish, cosy interiors, ironic name - nothing beats fish & chips on a Friday night! They've been open for a fair few months now, so should have got the hang of catering for everything from romantic dinners to stag dos by now ... I was part of a large-ish birthday party which exceeded their longest table and I ended up sitting next to the coffee machine (Nespresso capsules!) - being stuck in the basement next to the open kitchen was actually less of an issue than feared, good extractor fans and I didn't wake up smelling of grease. They were noticably annoyed with most of the party arriving late - but who can resist the temptation of being part of a hip hop video shoot taking place just outside?! Perhaps they are not quite cool enough for this part of Notting Hill? Large parties are a challenge for the best but also mean superior income capabilities - usually on booze, they definitely missed a trick here. Instead they dampened the party spirit by insisting on a £6 cover charge (per person!) for serving a birthday cake we had brought in ourselves. This is quite a common practice and I have never come across a restaurant not agreeing to this tradition - generally selling coffee and liqueurs instead of pudding to make up for any shortfall. So definitely a chip shop with attitude! On to the food itself, and the portion of cod was generous enough and beautifully presented. A bit tough, which was disappointing at £10.50 a pop - not including the chips (£4) and tiny cup of mushy peas (£2)! Chips always divide opinions, and I prefer mine crispier and less greasy - triple fried in Beef dripping, not for the faint hearted! Turns out I didn't make the worst food choice as the fish pie was so salty my friends didn't finish theirs. As everyone was going for starters I had a salad to combat food envy - the butter leaf lettuce and avocado almost as lovely as the same combination at Pizza East - and a pound less at £5! I love a sticky toffee pudding and theirs was delicious, but just too heavy. The other choices were just as rich - as my friend pointed out, this is the authentic English way!

I saw a recommendation for Golden Union, and so we made our way over there for lunch towards the latter half of our trip. The place itself is unsuspecting but ended up being actually very cute when we went inside. The neon signs and vintage furniture make it feel cozy. The staff themselves were also very welcoming. We sat down and were handed menus and waters. I decided to split the haddock and chips with my friend while my other friends got their own portion of cod and chips. Everything was pricey, but it is London. The waitress was also very engaging and friendly since she noticed we were tourists and also helped one of my friends with his journey to try British tea for the first time. Overall, she was so sweet. Despite not having crazy high expectations, the haddock and chips was incredible. The fish was soft, and the chips were fresh and not oily at all. It felt very fresh, and I finished my portion feeling very satisfied. My friends let me try their cod, and the cod was also fantastic--very buttery. The haddock is definitely my favorite though. With it being my first time here, I was looking to try either the Haddock or Cod, and decided on the Haddock. Once I received my fish and chips, I was ready to eat and wow the fish was so good and well fried. I tasted how good the fried batter was while all the flavor of the fish was still inside! I could eat this fried fish all day! The batter had the flakiness to it which added a nice texture. As for the chips (fries), I will say that they were average and nothing too special. However, keep that appetite for the fish! Make sure you finish that! Service itself was pretty fast and prompt.
