The Mayfair Chippy - My to go order was so tasty. Fries could have been crisper but the fish was on point!

The chips were thick-cut, properly salted, and tasted like real chip shop fries instead of frozen fast food fries. The place was completely packed, so I ended up eating on the stairs about a block away, honestly felt like part of the experience. One of those spots that doesn't try to reinvent fish and chips. it just does the classic version better than most places. Would easily go back next time I am in London.

(I heard the non GF version was also excellent.) Platter came with flavorful mushy peas, tartar sauce, and a spicy mayo (or currry for the non GF platter). Chips were large and delicious. Portion was huge, and easily shareable. Delicious!! Service: It was ok. We waited in line for a really long time (more than an hour) but we were checked on from time to time. Once we were seated and ordered, no one really checked in, but we asked if we needed something. Ambiance: Cute outdoor seating. In door seating was okay. Reservations get to go into a back room which seemed nicer. Lovely side street in a crazy busy popular area. It's a solid 4.5 stars for what it is because the food was so good. I'd return. Tip: Make a reservation a couple of weeks in advance, or be prepared to wait...a long time...Or, skip the line to order takeaway and go enjoy your food!

I like this place because they are very friendly and you always get a lot of food. On top of that…read moretheir prices are really good too! I personally don't like Doner Kebab's but my boyfriend does, according to him this place does them very well! Normally I go for Chicken Kebab's and I must say, that this is something they are not good at at Tony's. They taste nice, but the chicken still has it's skin left on them, which goes all slobby and it is not nice when you get this in your mouth. Also, their sauces are not very tasty either, taste kind of cheap. Now back to the good stuff! The chips are massive and chunky, yum! The burgers are good and so are the red sausages. The Cod is amazing too! One of the best Fish'n'Chips I have ever had! Since I am writing about it now I think I'll have to pop over, made myself hungry!

Reason: It looked absolutely terrible and I was scared I'd get out there with a bad disease. Now they have refurbished the whole place and it lookes lovely (for a fish and chips place obviously) It is only take away so no seating area or anything but that's alright. I have only tried the chips so far and they were pretty standard and you get a loooooot of chips for 2 pounds! I'll come back for more as they also have burgers, kebabs, sausages and obviously fiiiiiiish!!! :D

I wanted to enjoy George's heavily after seeing many positive reviews on TripAdvisor, the thumbs up from Chef Jamie, etc I was ready to enjoy something great. That unfortunately was not the outcome as now about thirteen hours my stomach has not settled from the experience and I get to enjoy going to work feeling like someone has assisted my insides. When I entered the restaurant I immediately was elated by the colorful 1950s style atmosphere. With colorful seating and framed articles praising the place on the walls I assumed I have definitely chosen correct for my fish and chips experience. The service was friendly and quick, as I only waited six minutes from order to meal. The portions were healthy and they gave a liberal serving of everything for a reasonable price. It was also packaged to go in very efficient and transportable way which is important for takeout Food. I would have preferred that they did not use styrofoam since it is very not environmentally friendly. Then the problems started, half way through eating just chips my stomach turned and then began a disgusting saga which is still continuing at the time of this post. My mother who ate a full meal of fish (cod,) chips, and baked beans only a dozen minutes later felt the same stomach pains and problems I was experiencing. As much as the service and ambiance were impeccable, serving Food that makes people sick will always give you one star. Sorry George's you really need to improve the quality of food.

Just visited again and I can write without any hesitation that this restaurant remains consistently good. Which is not always the case with eating establishments. one of which fall off in quality, service, value-for-money. My review is of eating-in. The takeaway food quality would be the same. A) Food - still delicious. Fish is very fresh - fried & grilled to perfection. Chips - old-fashioned chunky. Fluffy inside - crisp outside. Very generous portions. Also I discovered why their hummus & taramasalata starters are so good. Handmade in the restaurant. Not supplied by an outside caterer or from a jar. B) Service - terrific. Friendly and prompt. C) Prices - very reasonable. Similar to standard fish & chippies serving rather standard fare. All told this is a superb choice for dining-in. (Tables well spaced apart. And always a quiet ambiance). And great for take-out. They seem to work with all the food delivery applications - so people can order through those. Unfortunately for me I live 6,000 miles away! So a treat only when in London. I'm a very picky type. This place is my top pick in London!
