Our first visit was so good, we came back a second time. The stuffed Rainbow Trout is very good but the Salmon and potatoes is outstanding. I would have given them five stars but our server was a bit spacey: she forgot to bring a glass of wine we ordered and failed to get back to us regarding what the vegetable was going to be for the meal - something we had asked about specifically. All in all, we will come back time and again. And one more thing: while a short menu is oftentimes an indicator of an excellent restaurant, this menu is almost too limited. This was the best place we ate at during our weekend in two harbors. We came here for breakfast and made it just in time to miss the Mother's Day brunch rush. I had the Bloody Mary that was delicious! I always appreciate great snacks (came with dill cheese, beef stick, pepper, olive and a delicious crispy shrimp) but the mix has to be right and this hit the spot! It was fresh and well seasoned. My husband and I stayed in the cottages for an extended weekend. Our first morning there, we decided to eat breakfast at the restaurant and had a wonderful meal. I had the Ledge Rock Benedict (with pancetta! yum!!!) and my husband had the Apple Jack. Both were beautifully presented, which was something I did not expect. Delicious! Our server was attentive and nice. We went back for Friday night dinner and again had a nice, attentive and knowledgeable server who answered our questions and had great recommendations. I had the evening's special trout and my husband had the filet mignon. Again, beautiful presentation and both delicious meals. My husband had ordered his meal medium rare and it arrived medium, but he said it was still pretty good. There was a nice wine selection (although quite overpriced - we discovered the wine we picked costs less than half in a shop) and our server was clearly knowledgeable and probably had tasted most of the wines herself. We had the Irish Creme Mouse Cake for dessert - also good. It is a bit pricey, but both experiences there were positive. I would recommend trying it!! One other note - if you are hoping for a quiet meal, do not go during prime hours. It gets very loud when it fills up. Seated at the table next to us was a woman with a loud voice who insisted on talking non-stop, then in came a large party that was seated in the middle. (I love it when servers can actually give an opinion about the food other than "it's good"). 3. The food was delicious. I had the seafood puff pastry and my hubby had the seafood cannelloni. Both had very good portions. The vegetables were done well, my rice side had a nice light citrus flavor, and the seafood was incredibly tender. The butter sauce in the puff pastry was perfect. Ledge Rock Grille had a good variety of food options and we enjoyed our meals. We ordered the pot stickers for an appetizer and they were the best I have ever had! My husband particularly liked his fish tacos. The decor is nice and has a modern lodge feeling. I would say that it is a medium to small size restaurant which gives it a more intimate feel. I also enjoyed it was a quiet restaurant, but not too quiet where you are concerned people can hear your conversation. The prices were good for the quality of food you receive. read more

Knowing that I like interesting places to eat, a co-worker of mine recently suggested that I try a place called the Ledge Rock Grill, which is a small restaurant about 25 miles north of Duluth and a part of the Larsmont Cottage Resort. Once I found the place, I was instantly impressed by the restaurant's "details" - details like Chef Todd who is from the Big Island (yes, I am not the only person who was crazy enough to leave Hawai`i for Northern MN), like the fact that they offer a six course Chef's Table that sits you right up at the kitchen counter and changes daily and the fact they do periodic Chef tours whereby Chefs from MPLS and other places come there to "play" in a small restaurant in the middle of nowhere. As for the food itself - it is solid, very solid. Among my favorites are the Asian Ribs (which is plated as a lettuce wrap cupped in Boston Lettuce), the French Onion Soup (which had a deep rich flavor and the perfect crust on the cheese); the Cedar Plank Salmon (which was perfectly cooked and topped with a light sweet soy glaze); and the crème brulee sampler (which was perfectly sized and perfectly glazed). Aside from the food, I really like the fact that the staff and the chefs really believed in what they were serving (i.e. when they tell you something is good, it's because they really like it themselves). To me, it gives you a degree of confidence in what's on the menu and shows you that the staff cares about what they are serving you. To that end, I would highly recommend the Ledge Rock Grill for anyone coming this way.... Insiders note: October is Hawaiian month and the Chef offers a great island menu. I was excited to use the offer, but after dinner the waiter came back and told us the executive chef would not honor it and doesn't know why it's still on yelp. I can't give it 5 stars....that to me would be perfect. The ledge rock has two things counting against it. Its not in Duluth and its harder to find. Tourist....listen....really listen....if you want one of the best meals and service go to the Ledge Rock Grille. My wife raves about the Huli Hulii chicken. I on the other hand have had several things on the menu. The sockeye salmon is fantastic, the risotto scallops dish was near perfect. I've now eaten here twice, each time while staying at the Larsmont Cottages. Last time, about 4-5 mos. ago, we thought the food was run of the mill and the coffee was abysmal. We responded as such on a requested satisfaction survey and were told that the restaurant would "address" the identified issues. This time my daughter and I had brunch here. We both ordered meals that were to include pancetta. Neither did. Mine was provided ala carte, after the fact, and my daughter's meal was re-made. When the second attempt showed up STILL NO pancetta. The waitress/hostess seemed to have no response but to apologize. This was the sweet potato hash which was also supposed have sage and rosemary. According to my daughter, those were absent as well. Supposedly, this restaurant gets the same rating as the New Scenic Cafe. No way! We dine at TNSC at least once per North Shore trip. At least one of us is blown away each time, usually both (or all three). Ledge Rock hasn't met minimal standards yet. And the coffee is still incredibly weak. read more

We have tried the Ledge Rock for Lunch and Dinner. Have had great experiences both times. Both the Wait, and Kitchen staff are phenomenal! The Chef serves great food with his personal twist. The salads, and dressings really stand out. Maple potato Salad was excellent. Can't wait to go again to try their Spaghetti and Meat Ball. Saw an order being served to another table. I have got to try it! We will definitely be back. Being local, it has turned into one of our favorites. read more

It looks like a nice place. Food was just ok. What really grossed me out was our waitress brought the wrong food item, we kindly asked her to bring the correct side. When she returned with the new side she reached on our plate and tried to remove the wrong side with her hands while my boyfriend was eating of the plate. We will definitely not come back. read more

We had a wonderful chef's table with wine pairing. The chef's were very nice - good vibe, excellent food. My wife can't eat gluten or dairy and they made a six course tasting meal for both of us. I am unrestricted, and I missed neither the dairy nor gluten. It was superb! Creative and very well executed. If you're looking for a special event for a special day, or if you're food geeks like us, the chef's table is worth the splurge. The atmosphere at this resort restaurant is comfortable and classy. I loved all of the cobalt accents and the gorgeous view of Lake Superior. There is a bar in the lobby of the hotel as well as some nice armchairs to relax in near the fire. I came here for a special event in the private dining room and for brunch. The brunch was great and the service was very good too. We had a large party and all of our food came out hot and at the same time. Our server was friendly and took good care of our table. I can't say enough about the staff at Larsmont Cottages in general, they are great. We made great memories here and we will be back again. read more
