    Truffle fries
    Michael O.

Great spot on the North Shore! Awesome use of both their view of Lake Superior as well as locally sourced ingredients. Cocktail menu uses many spirits from a small distillery in Duluth. We were 4 in total and had no issues getting seated (most diners where staying at the resort - but you don't need to be a guest to dine here). We started with the truffle fries. They where perfectly seasoned (not over powering with the truffle oil). Some of the best I have had. Also, the wait staff brought 4 different ramekins of ketchup (usually you get one or two in the order). Kudos to the staff for the look ahead. Next came the salads. One at our table had the kale salad and the other had the house salad (with garlic dressing), while I had the apple and fennel salad. We understood from the staff they they make all their dressings in house. The house salad (sorry no pic) with the garlic dressing was the hit at the table. Next came our mains. It just would not be a Minnesota dining experience without having walleye on the menu. But we loved their take on the side of wild rice. Instead of the usual preparation of it they added a step and fried it (think Asian fried rice). Giving the rice an nice extra bit of crispness. To top it off we shared the S'more cake and the deconstructed raspberry cheesecake. Both were excellent, but the S'more was the real winner for the table (even the non-chocolate guy liked it). Highly suggest stopping at this place for dinner when you are on the North Shore.

    Deviled eggs

Stopped here on the drive back from Two Harbors, great service and nice cozy atmosphere with a beautiful view. I ordered a salad and added chicken woth ranch and was tasty. The deviled eggs were delicious, probably vest I ever had. My friend really enjoyed the soup of the day which was Walleye Chowder and she also had the steak sandwich. She said both were great and soup was so good she'd come back for that alone!

Fried cheese curds are a must if you're from out of town.

We stayed at Larsmont Cottages and ate our first lunch here- the food was great! Fried cheese curds, Caesar salad, walleye rueben and soup of the day were all delightful, as were our cocktails (WOW that Bloody Mary was excessive and so fun). Our server even brought us out a little raspberry beer to sample, just for fun. We sat outside to be safe (my second vaccine was less than a week ago so just want to be safe until after two weeks), and the heat lamps were wonderful, as it was nippy out. Our server did the mask-under-the-nose thing but was otherwise very nice.

My partner and I celebrated our anniversary on the North Shore and had our dinner at the Ledge Rock Grille. It was superb. Every dish received a 10/10 for taste and presentation, and the price was very reasonable. They even threw in a free dessert for us. Staff and ambiance were great. We were seated on the patio with live music outside. Hoping to go back again!

Once upon a time, "fine dining" in Two Harbors meant a visit to Dairy Queen. These days, with a smattering of posh resorts for the 'visit Lake Superior' and 'get away for a night Duluthian' crowds, dining has been elevated to an entirely new level. The Ledge Rock Grill is the house restaurant for the Larsmont Cottages, a 40 acre enclave on the shores of Lake Superior, "inspired by a Scandinavian fishing village". The Ledge is open for lunch and dinner seven days, as well as breakfast on the weekends, and is open to the public at all times (in other words, you do not have to be a guest of the cottages to partake). Serving "modern American", chef Todd Torricer, who has Hawaiian roots, also offers monthly special menus, and the August theme features "inspired by the sea". Minnesota lead Burger Reporter Kawikamedia took a couple nights off from burgers, to check out a few menu items at the Ledge. Having lived in Hawaii, his intention was to check out the Huli Huli chicken, but alas, it was not offered the night of his first visit. He started with the smoked shrimp appetizer with a dried cherry balsamic, and then went with the Kobe flatiron, served with parsnip mashed and asparagus, a bargain at $31. His second visit was more successful, and described the seared Ahi, from the special August menu, as "out of this world". The plate was Fresh Pacific Ahi Tuna pan seared and paired with avocado puree, sushi rice tater tots and finished off with a wasabi-soy butter sauce. The Huli Huli chicken was very good, (if you don't know Huli Huli, it is a traditional Hawaiian barbecued chicken, with a sauce made from soy sauce and ketchup, sweeting with brown sugar and a bit of sherry. He didn't care for the side mash that night, which he described as "must have been doused in liquid smoke." Kawikamedia highly recommends the Ledge, despite the fact there is no burger on the dinner menu!

We played it "safe" and ordered the nachos--and I say this without exaggeration: they were the best nacho platter I've ever had. Not just great tasting, but genuinely beautiful to look at. This wasn't a pile-of-chips-with-stuff-dumped-on-top situation. This was thoughtfully made, layered, and clearly crafted from real ingredients. Nothing felt canned or boxed. Fresh toppings, balanced flavors, and even details like using spinach instead of iceberg lettuce showed real care and intention. You could tell someone in that kitchen actually cares about what goes out on the plate. If you're anywhere near the area and even thinking about stopping in--do it. Great food, great vibe, and one of those meals that surprises you in the best possible way. We'll absolutely be back.

The cafe is located alone the shore of Lake Superior. There is lots of parking onsite, so no worries there. The restaurant is as stunning as the view! It's, dare I say, very scenic! As for the food (I do dream of it!), I was obsessed with this dish that was essentially dates, cheese and honey -- insanely good. We also loved the seared duck with dumplings and "the bear" chocolate cake. The only thing we were a little underwhelmed with were the tuna tacos. They were good, but just couldn't compete with the other dishes, which were fantastic. Make sure to call to make a reservation ahead of time -- they are busy, busy!

Everything was presented beautifully. The prices are quite high and the menu is very Scandinavian. If you're not a seafood fan, the choices are limited. The service was the biggest challenge. We had a reservation for 6 at 7:45. When we arrived, the host told us the party before us was still at the table an hour after getting their bill. We wound up waiting 25 minutes to be seated. No concessions were offered for the wait. We ordered drinks (a soda and a lemonade) and it took another 20 minutes to get them. When the drinks arrived at 8:35, we ordered. It took almost 40 minutes for the food to arrive. Again - we ordered four sandwiches and two appetizers. Because we were seated so late, the restaurant was clearing out - I can't imagine how long the wait is when it's busy. Our server was an infrequent guest at our party. I might come back just to have that lobster roll again, but nothing else was so outstanding that it would be worth the trip.

I had suggested going to our usual go to, the Ledge Rock Grill at Larsmont. My wife insisted staying closer to home and taking advantage of the Valentines seven course dinner menu at Vue North in Superior Shores Resort. We got to the restaurant and were promptly seated at a window table as requested in our reservation. Being a true foodie from way back, I always opt for a well prepared gourmet meal as opposed to a standard menu. I have to admit I was skeptical when I booked the reservation, but am pleased to say the current Chef hit it out of the park. Every course was over the top and a clear ten. Obviously a lot of thought and talent went into both the creation of the menu and preparation of each course. I haven't had a gourmet meal of this caliber in years. The ambiance was excellent, the service was great, and each course was a ten!

Still, I don't regret going here. We sat by a window with a decent view of the water and plenty of light. Our server was very friendly and helpful. While we waited for our food, we walked out on the deck, which led to scenic marshy areas with trails. I ordered beet wellington with arugula, and my spouse had a chicken dish with risotto. Just half of the beet wellington with the arugula was enough to fill me up. I liked the beet wellington, but it would have been better if they figured out a way to season the beet. Maybe pierce it and marinate it a bit? The chicken and risotto were also good. If we were hungrier, we would have supplemented these dishes with more vegetables. This was a nice place to stop before returning on a long drive home. We enjoyed relaxing in the spacious dining room with evocative upscale cabin decor. As I finished typing this, my spouse chimed in, "Not amazing, but pretty good." And in a touristy area where restaurant quality can be hit or miss, pretty good is exactly that: pretty good. We'll take it.
