The vets are great unless you need a last-minute appointment. Our dog has been being treated by them for a life threatening issue for 3+ weeks. We ended up at the emergency vet on Saturday with instructions to follow up on Monday. All paperwork from that visit was emailed to them. I was told they don't take walk-ins from 12p-2p and no walk in after 4pm. Oh, and the wait time for walk-ins is 1-2 hours. They keep their schedules completely booked so there is no immediately following up regardless of the severity of your case. I guess the business motto is quantity over quality at this point and I guess we are headed back to the ER vet. read more

My family and I got a puppy for our girls for Christmas. Well, really for me, but the girls really love her. Neither me nor my husband had ever had a dog growing up, so we needed a vet who would not only care for Marlowe, our black and tan coonhound, but also for rookie pet owners who knew less than zero about what dog ownership would entail. Dr. Moorehead took some time to lay down the basics and to help with our introduction to crate training (us AND the puppy). The front desk staff were friendly and engaged while we waited for our appointment, and the tech who saw Marlowe seemed competent and friendly. I feel like we have a really solid partner to help us keep Marlowe a healthy, happy member of our family for a long, long time. So glad they are in Leander. read more

Greyhounds are a specialty breed - When perfectly healthy, they have VERY different blood counts than other breeds of dogs, so it's important to go to a vet that knows this particular breed. Austin Greyhound Association has been taking their dogs to this clinic to get them checked out, so we trusted them when we needed a tooth removed for Noodle. We drove 45 minutes each way to get her there. They honored the price that they had quoted the Greyhound Association when she was first evaluated. Two days after surgery, our dog tore her stitches out with her hook claw and was bleeding everywhere (!!!!!) I called, frantic, and they told me to come in right away. They were waiting for me in the lobby when we arrived and took us straight back to a room, where they immediately prepped her for another round of surgery. They cleaned the wound, reported to me what happened, and did a great job following up. The techs love her - and what's more, she even allows them to poke and prod her without a problem. As a new pet owner, I called a zillion times with questions and and they were always knowledgeable, empathetic and friendly. Dr. Moorehead is friendly and you can tell he really enjoys the animals as well. Overall, this was a very good vet experience during a very crazy time. read more

My family and I recently adopted a dog from a shelter making us first time pet owners who knew very little about preventative care. I was able to get get my dog seen the same day I called for a appointment. From the time we checked in until the time we checked out I was pleased with the whole experience. Not only did the doctor exam my dog and answer all my questions but took the time to go over my dogs medical records I had received from the shelter. Definitely will be returning when needed. There are not enough gratitude words in the English language to express how we feel about this establishment. Our beloved Millie was our joy. She was older blind and diabetic. We boarded her frequently and the care she received there was beyond measure. Kristen Actually carried her around in a papoose like a baby. She would come in extra just to check on her and stayed late to give her extra attention. Millie's passed and the compassion we received from Kristen and the staff was more like from family members than just a place where she received her medical care. If you love your fur baby, please do not take ur dog to this vet , they are unprofessional and do not care about your pet . I had the worst experience when I took my dog t to be euthanized. They tell you one price, and when you get there they tell you another , which is higher . It should of been a calm, peaceful experience, instead it was chaos. It was hard enough taking my dog knowing he was not going to come home with me, and then to be treated like I did .. They are so unprofessional, I have been a loyal customer for 5 years tooo long .. I will NOT be returning. I booked an appointment with Dr. Morehead based on reviews. I brought my dog in at the appointment time, filled out the forms and sat down. The waiting area is terrible, especially if you have a dog that needs space. The waiting area also reeked of cat urine...terribly! It could have been one of the poor cats in crates that were there when I arrived and sadly, there when I left an hour later. I sat there for 45 minutes before I was called. Then the vet tech wanted to take my dog to the back to get started, because they didn't have any rooms available. I said I prefer to wait until a room is available so I can be with my dog. She told me I could come with her, so I went to the back, where other dogs were lined up on a table together having vitals taken. After weighing him, the vet tech snatched him up like someone who as never been bitten, but probably should have with that lack of awareness, and preceded to take my dog's temperature while holding him! Ridiculous! She could have injured him. We then went back out to the waiting room for another 10 minutes before being called into a room. They then told me that a different veterinarian would be seeing him, even though I specifically asked for another. Dr. Whitehill then examined my dog and gave him the rabies shot without any discussion with me. I have had serious problems with the 3-year rabies vaccine and I was not even given the opportunity to discuss what type of vaccine would be administered. He then went on about how inferior the flea and heartworm treatment I was using was, which I have been using for 10 years on all my dogs without issue. The whole experience was dreadful and the clinic was chaotic. They tried to tell me that Mondays are their busiest days, but that's is no excuse for poor service. You don't have to overbook, if your staff can't manage it. read more

We got our first family puppy. I want to say how impressed I was with the service here! They where so nice and answered all of my questions. Dr. Morehead made me feel so comfortable about all the puppy shots and getting our puppy on heart worm and flea prevention. Our first visit & they were awesome. Unfortunately we had to put our fur-baby down due to cancer. They were patient, caring, professional, accommodating ... we're forever grateful. They let you be as engaged as you want (or not); it was important for us to hold her till the end; they were sincerely compassionate for an obviously tough time; professional but caring during the procedure; and let us stay for as long as we wanted to say goodbye. I am so pleased with the compassionate and quality care my pets have received at Leander Vet Clinic! Dr. Morehead and his staff made me so comfortable and at ease when caring for my furry friends! Dr. Morehead is always so thorough when examining his patients and I really appreciate that he always takes the time to sit down and explain situations and procedures to me to help ease my mind and to understand exactly what my pets need. He recently removed a cyst from my 12 year old yellow lab. I was so worried about her surgery and the outcome, but Dr. Morehead was so kind and compassionate to my feelings and he really took the time to explain every detail of the surgery, before and after, and really helped ease my mind and make me feel comfortable. The surgery went beautifully and the best news was the cyst was benign! Dr. Morehead and his staff have a true love of animals at Leander Vet Clinic! I will continue to take my pets there because I know they will love my pets and care for them as much as I do! I've had had cats for years and my outdoor one occasionally gets in fights and the bites he gets will abscess and it needs to be drained and antibiotics given. My previous vet would drain it and give a him a shot for around 100 bucks. I decided to try this new clinic since it was so close to my house. They said I needed a drain tube and charged me 300 bucks. When I took the cat back they removed the tube and did not stitch up the wound. It was too big to heal properly. Very impressed with this place! I had a minor emergency with my dog and they were able to get me in immediately for treatment. My entire experience from beginning to end was outstanding. The customer service over the phone and during the visit were excellent, the doctor was very friendly and helpful, and the treatment was quick and affordable. They genuinely care about making sure you are well taken care of and they treat your pet like family. Best vet ever!! We brought our 16 year old dog, Freckles, here many times, the price was very reasonable, and the service was quick and good. Two weeks ago, we had to put him down, and then yesterday my parents took their dog here when he had a ruptured cyst and had to put him down. Two dogs in two weeks, and Dr. Morehead and his staff were so wonderful both times. They were so understanding and patient, helped us understand everything that was happening, and gave us cost estimates and clear options so that we could make the hard decisions. I was going to take my puppy to the humane society to have her spayed but thought I would call Leander Vet and get a quote since they were close by. I was quoted just over $200 for the procedure. The price was comparable so I made an appt. When I signed my pup in I was instructed to go through a list of procedures that were (optional) and the fees associated with them. I do not consider pain meds and IV's optional, at least not for my pets. There was one whole page of optional procedures which quite frankly make you feel horrible for declining. I did decline some blood work because I was looking at over 350.00 at this point. Had I known the true cost up front I would have never made the appointment. I could have walked out that morning but I had already planned this time off so I could spend a few days at home to make sure she was okay, I payed the price but will not go back. There are plenty of options for affordable pet care, just be careful to ask for ALL costs involved before deciding. read more

Leander vet clinic has been my animals primary vet for about a year and half now. I couldn't ask for a better vet. Dr. Sam Morehead has been wonderful. Also his staff is more than knowledgable. They are understanding of whatever the situation may be. Especially the boarding staff. They take the time to care about your animal to make sure they have a good stay. I was so excited when we got a vet in Leander. We have 4 dogs so a good relationship with a vet is very important to me. I have been to Leander Veterinary Clinic several times since they opened and have always been pleased. They care about my time so they get me in quickly. When I had to euthanize an elderly dog they were so understanding and caring. The vet tech even cried with me. Dr. Morehead prescribed medication for car sickness so our dog could come along with us in the car. I was HUGELY impressed with the staff expediting emergency care for my dog's rattlesnake bite. His medical evaluation and care began within 2-3 minutes of our arrival, even though there were established patients waiting for their pet's needs to be addressed. This vet refuses to let you fill prescriptions at any online pharmacy, including many nationally recognized ones such as 1800petmeds, or Smith and Fosters.
