Salad

Decided to come back for another delicious meal. We got the Veggie salad and Thaiger king salad. Both were SO delicious. The serivce was quick and timely. The food was flavorful and the restaurant itself was clean and tidy. Would def come back everyday if i could!

I have driven by this spot so many times, and I always told myself I would stop by. I finally got around to it, and it was well worth the wait The exterior is very inviting, with a well lit entrance, cozy patio seating, and visible signage. The interior is exceptionally clean and clean, spacious, and trendy I was impressed my the signature salad/bowl options. There are so many fresh ingredients available, everything looked and sounded delicious The person assisting me with my order was one of the nicest employees I'd interacted with in a long time. Great suggestions, small talk, and he made me feel welcome and well taken care of There is a big/long menu above the ordering station with clear names, ingredients, etc. The salads/bowls aren't overly pricey, and for the amount of components you get, I found there to be an incredible amount of value The food was tasty and fresh. Everything was made to order, but didn't take too long to assemble Some tips: Ask someone who works there way they recommend. Definitely ask for some of their sour dough on the side, it pairs really well with any bowl. The fresh/healthy drinks are very delicious and are noticeably "healthy," but in the best way possible Cheers!!

Wow wow wow! Such an amazing healthy restaurant! Think of this as a healthy version of chipotle & cava if they had a baby. They have bowls, salads & actual plate dishes if you're more on the hungry side. When you first walk in for the first time it is a bit confusing where to order due to there being no clear signage/arrow or line divider saying to order here sort of like chipotle. Once you get there the staff is friendly and offer suggestions and top items most people order. I got the Common Table grain bowl and it was DELISH! So happy I found this and will forever be a returning customer :) the cookies there are also yummy!

Went here for the first time for weekday lunch. Was not busy at all but it seemed like they had a ton of call in or delivery orders. Every option looked amazing but was watching calories so went with this salmon dish. Man was it good. Was a great combination of flavors and I didn't use any dressing. I don't think I would have changed anything about it. I will definitely be going back.

Now that 2024 has rolled around, many of us are detoxing and trying to get ourselves set up with healthier habits while eating delicious food. Leaf & Grain embodies both, while maintaining consistency and has garnered a loyal following in the process. They're a stellar option in West U and certainly one of my favorite places to not just enjoy a good meal, but a meal that's good for you. I tend to prefer coming on the weekdays, as it's never too busy in here. The clean and bright interior makes this place an ideal spot for a quick lunch, meeting, or even a small gathering. They have limited outdoor seating and plenty of parking to boot. One cannot go wrong with either a grain bowl or a salad bowl. The Alamo or Common Table bowl has been my go-tos, and the L&G Caesar and the Autumn Harvest have been excellent salad choices. I particularly enjoy the seasonal offerings, which vary throughout the season but are great even if they are temporary. I've been hooked on their hot plates as of late, the French Country Dinner is a real treat. The smoothies are not talked about enough. The Chunky Monkey is always a fun choice, but the Leaf & Green is always a reliable choice. Berry Boost! is really great during the summer time, but the Strawberry Banana is actually a thumbs up for kids. To make things even more awesome, their ultra generous first time Yelp check-in offer (25%) is easily among the best in the area. Plenty of corporate chains do what Leaf & Grain does but very few do it as well. It's hard not to be impressed with all that Deets and his amazing team has done. Their empire has slowly grown to several locations, their quality and operations have never wavered. I am happy to support a local chain and truly feel they're one of the best local fast casual options in the city.

the salad was ok. the cucumber aqua fresca drink took a while to dispense. they also do not accept cash.

Greek salad
Sunny B.

Leaf and Grain is a great healthy restaurant that primarily sells salad bowls. I do wish leaf and grain had better options for vegetarians. Most of their salad bowls have grilled chicken as the base protein. You customize everything. I replaced chicken for grilled tofu. However, I thought my salad was overpriced for the amount of tofu I got. I ordered the good greek salad. The salad was flavorful and dressing was tasty. Definitely get dressing on the side so you can adjust flavor to your liking. The complementary sourdough bread was also delicious. Compared to other salad places, Leaf and Grain is more pricey with less topping options for customizing your dish but it is a healthy lunch/dinner choice.

Lemon caper salmon (to go)
Jane O.

Ordered the lemon caper salad as part of a DoorDash group order. My salad was delicious--the salmon was well cooked, the green beans/arugula were fresh and overall happy with my order. On DoorDash the meal was listed for $16.98 so a bit on the pricey end for a lunch portion and unfortunately they only sent 1 fork for the 5 orders. That's pretty much the reason for the loss of a star as it was very inconvenient to have to then go on a hunt for eating utensils.

The pick up are; ordering is just to the right-all ingredients visible.
Jane B.

They have very delicious warm and cold bowls and salads here and are happy to customize and let you sample ingredients. BUT! For me, the star item at this eatery is the green smoothie! It's deliciously fresh AND tastes good. It is chock full of greens and the perfect consistency to me. I started drinking them over a year ago after a surgery I had that I couldn't eat solids for a while. These were a life saver! I felt like I was getting nutrients and they are filling. They're so good that for a time I would order a multiple to go and freeze them for later. So, yes the food is good, but the green smoothie is a hidden gem.

Fun and sweet servers and a prime location. But their plants were leggy and neglected and their bowls lacked flavor and substance.

However, I haven't found myself wanting to come back even though I drive past this area pretty frequently. If I did come back, I'd probably just order the same flavor again because it was that good. The staff were super friendly though and parking wasn't terrible. There were a lot of other items on the menu that sounded fantastic. The food quality was great and the staff was kind. Honestly, this feels like a place that will probably make its way into our monthly rotation. My only small critique is that it's a little on the pricey side. Parking can be tight depending on the time/day. This location feels like it has more indoor seating and a better patio than The Heights which is more exposed to the outdoor elements off the trails. I couldn't remember if I'd been here before until old photos I posted showed. I'm used to The Heights location which is closer to me. It's been about 5 years when I first moved to the loop that I went here with a friend. I had the OG Brussels sprouts which were my favorite when they still had Benjy's in Rice Village. It was a staple for 25 years. They closed in 2020 to expand Local Foods. Pretty bummed because Benjy's was great and had an amazing pecan-crusted goat cheese appetizer with pita. It had more of a cocktail lounge vibe that my friends and I would frequent back in grad school for HH. They had another location off Washington, but that is also closed and is now Forget Me Not. Anyways, the Brussels sprouts were amazing, and I always loved them. I'm glad that Local Foods occasionally features it as a special. I usually gravitate towards the crunchy chicken sandwich. The pretzel bun is everything, and the filling is loaded. If you have a bit allergy, this is not for you. It has pecans in them. I like the added potato chips, too. This time I tried the tacos de camote which was a sweet potato taco. I couldn't find any photos of it on this Yelp page, but I've had sweet potato tacos before in Scottsdale and was hooked. I didn't expect two large wedges on sweet potato lodged in a taco shell. It was delicious and carmelized. You could hear the crunchy outside texture. Loved that. What I didn't love was the difficulty of eating it. The wedges were huge, and the sweet potato was too hot and steamy. It would've been better had they been diced. The pumpkin seed mixture was good but too spicy with the jalapeños. I like spicy food but didn't expect that. The tacos needed salsa or crema to cut through the heat. I picked off the jalapeños and fork and knifed the sweet potato after a few bites with the taco shell. The taco itself is a blue nixtamilized corn tortilla. It held up the taco filling fairly well considering the huge wedge of sweet potato. It also dripped the oil off the sweet potato. I couldn't taste much of the refried beans. I liked these tacos, but it was a little too spicy and didn't have the acid it needed to make it better. I ate the sweet potatoes and nixed the tortillas. As for the sides, I usually get the kale salad because theirs doesn't taste like dirt. Lol. They add enough lemon, pine nuts, golden raisins and Parmesan cheese to make it taste better. I could eat a bowl of that. It's always served in a tiny container. I also get their homemade potato chips. It's dusted with Old Bay seasoning. It can be oily at times, though. This time, I tried a seasonal side of strawberries that was recommended by the guy at the register. It was delicious. The strawberries were soaked in a slightly sweet simple syrup with chopped basil. They have a variety of lemonades, tea, fountain drinks, cocktails and refrigerated beverages to choose from. Lemonade can be too sweet, so I dilute it with ice and water. I like that it's open with the cups and plastic to-go cups if that's your preference. I've always enjoyed what Local Foods offers and like that they offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Service is friendly, and it's a nice, casual place to dine in or on the patio.

Before their recent expansions to Austin, it all began here in Rice Village exactly 15 years ago. The vibes are contemporary and casual, with the kind of space that fits for just about any scenario. Whether it's a solo meal, a lunch date, or a group led affair, the experience is almost always an excellent one. Start by ordering at the counter and find a seat where the food will brought directly to the table. So much of their variety caters to all sorts of dietary restrictions from vegan to gluten free to nut free. Their spicy crispy brussels sprouts ($10) are a nice starter, as is the squash "onion" rings ($12). The local power bowl ($16) is a classic and I've always enjoyed the brown rice and quinoa combo. Their chicken "posolé" is solid, and I love the large hominy bits along with the clear but green tint of a broth. The chicken shawarma bowl ($20) is an interesting mix that includes pickled beets and strawberries, along with their market cheddar burger ($17) and fabulous twice cooked fries. The carrot cupcake is strangely addicting, and I think their gluten free brownie is a bit of a sleeper. Some of their items didn't jive with me previously, such as an underwhelming cashew queso ($9), a semi-laughable Vietnamese steak bowl ($22), and their semi-gringo version of a banh mi ($15). It's not that these items are bad per se, but they definitely don't live up to the same standard that I feel their other dishes do best. Where they hit the biggest home run is their customer service. Everyone working behind the counter does their best to deliver and they almost always do by staying on top of refills, cleanups, and customer greets.
