I feel the employees were rude to a homeless woman named Rya. They don't care about the community they live in and would rather have people like Rya die in the streets from starvation. It's pretty gross that when you tip on their POS system that the tips don't go the cashier like you would think, so if the employees don't get tips who is receiving that money? I'm writing this in the hope that management will see it. I'm a regular customer at this Sweetgreen location and visit once or twice a week. This evening, I stopped by as usual and ordered two bowls and two focaccias. I was told the focaccia would take about five minutes, so I was happy to wait at the counter after paying, expecting it to be fresh. However, after 15 minutes passed with no update, I assumed the employee who took my order had gone to check on it, and I didn't want to interrupt the other staff who were clearly busy. Since no one else had ordered focaccia after me, I also had no indication that it had already come out. When I finally asked another staff member, I was told that the focaccia had been ready for some time. The employee who took my order was no longer around, which left both me and the staff member I spoke to in an awkward situation. I ended up waiting over 15 minutes before receiving my order. As you know, one of the main reasons customers stop by Sweetgreen during dinner hours is for a quick and efficient meal. When an order requires waiting, it is a basic responsibility for the staff member who took the order to follow through and inform the customer when it is ready. I'm sharing this because I visit often and would hate to see issues like this, particularly around staff communication and training, affect the experience and waste customers' time. read more

While the portions are arguably less than a typical bowl, and price is slightly higher due to this owl containing steak and sweet potatoes, this bowl is a veritable masterpiece. This spot is one of my go-it's because I'm frequently in the Village, and I love me some sweetgreen. The interior is often immaculate, and the staff friendly. Some tips: Since parking is limited or requires payment I would suggest ordering ahead and parking behind the planters in front with your hazards on. You can always modify your order, but one thing I like to do is add extra sauce or dressing (limit is two, and default is one). I was a Sweetgreen enthusiast and was even a Sweetgreen ambassador and secret shopper. But after today's interaction with a the Rice Village location and a person who identified himself as a manager named "Tony" I will NEVER patronize a Sweetgreen location again. I ordered an online order and it was not ready on time. When it was ready they threw it on the shelf in a crumpled bag. When I got to my car, it was missing the steak and I went back in and asked for a manager. "Tony" went and put steak on the salad but then instead of apologizing, he told me they didn't put steak on my salad because they didn't have steak. However, they quite literally did. My order was also missing the bread. So I had a steak bowl that had no steak, didn't have the bread that I added, and then a rude manager who proceeded to try to make a bunch of excuses rather than simply apologize. He went on and on blaming me. I told him I didn't want to argue and I only patronize places with good service and he said I think I'm better than people. It was an insane interaction, literally the worst experience I have ever had at ANY restaurant. I went to my car and got the rest of my order (a crispy bar) and went on the app to initiate a refund request. Tony continued to talk smack to and say he never said they didn't have steak when he literally did say that. He kept talking smack to me until I asked him to please leave me alone as I had no wish to interact with him further. I recorded the interaction and will be sending it in to corporate. That man is jealous of customers and doesn't need to be anywhere providing a service to the public. Worse, this was a Sunday and the customer service is bots until they are open again during regular business hours. There are many places to get a nice salad, better yet just make one at home. Having visited locations all over the Greater Houston Metro area and Washington DC, I give 2 stars; one for the food that is a healthier option, and one for the previous positive experiences. After today, we will not waste time being demeaned, disrespected, and antagonized for an overpriced salad that can be found at a multitude of other establishments, or simply made at home. To ask for extra lettuce blend and be told no, even after assuring we were happy to pay whatever additional fee might need be applied, was off-putting. To have employee Jonathan then call over a manager who was equally adamant about not adding greens 'past the line on the bowl' was curious, as I'm not privy to their portion controls or paper goods protocols. I casually stated that in my previous visits at this and other locations I'd never heard anything about 'no extra greens'. Instead of redirecting the request in a more service oriented way, the manager demanded the name of that locations employee who had given extra greens previously. I myself redirected in an effort to de-escalate the hostile tone of the manager by assuring I'd pay for the extra serving amount of greens. I was met with unmistakable disdain and frustration from the manager who then begrudgingly granted me the extra greens by dumping a huge pile of greens overflowing into the bowl in an aggressive and snide way. It wasn't what I had asked for and the antagonizing was shifting from unjustified to absolute harassment. If we were in a cheaper establishment with lesser offerings, the bitterness and resentment might've been fitting. Nobody enters this location to feel lavish by any means; the floors are with residue of a type built up over extended time without thorough cleaning. Tables and seating are rarely encountered clean. Rarely is anyone spotted tidying up. But this location is in Rice Village, a top tier community with the best array of local and national chain businesses and an equally diverse demographic of patrons. There was no expectation for anything more than a quick and convenient healthier meal option served by people w basic decency, and that was not what we got today. We will not be back to overlook grimy floors, sticky tables, crumb-laden seating, and restroom facilities equal to 3rd world country standards. Rice Village has so much more to offer, and we hope this poorly maintained stain of a business will not inspire a tarnish on this community. read more

Much better service than the one on Westheimer, almost every time I've been here. They have some great staff members and are more in line with what I'm sure corporate would want from their servers and their treatment of salad-procuring guests. I had Sweetgreen on many occasions when I was on the east coast (Boston, NY, DC and so on), and was never really impressed, although the one in Cambridge by Harvard is my preferred location, by far, and always packed. Sometimes the salad was awful. Sometimes it was pretty good but it might have just been because I was starving. Overall I've never been the biggest fan but I gave it a good solid chance, and now that it's finally come to Houston, I've tried both locations (Montrose and Rice Village) on a number of occasions, and this one pees on the other one, from a great height, and it splashes a lot too. The salad itself tastes pretty good. They seem to have decent ingredients and although it definitely has a hipster flavour, I kind of like it. I don't love it but I kind of like it and it mixes things up from my usual Salata, which gives portions twice the size or greater, with unlimited options, for the same price. The problem is that it's basically the same price as Salata and yet can be literally one quarter of the size, one third at best, if Salata is stingy. But anything's better than the nasty attitudes of the employees over at Westheimer, causing this one to get 2 full stars higher in the rating department, due to actually being friendly, and Houston not having that many non-Salata options for salad that are actually good. But, if it's within say 45 min of closing, expect them to be out of some things sometimes. 4 stars for the salads, should lose a star for portion sizes, but such a refreshing change to the nasty treatment at the other location, that I'll stick with 4. So it's not the best salad I've seen And some of the servers are quite mean But if you want some kale Then come here, without fail And you'll get healthy sh** at Sweetgreen More like Sourgreen. read more

The bowl comes with a piece of bread but it's Extra for a different type of bread that was right next to it. It really limits you on your choices or you'll wind up paying $20 for a bowl. I chose to try this spot one night when I had to go to an event later on in the evening. I didn't want anything too heavy, so this place was perfect. This reminds me of a Chipotle, but with salad. They have a menu on their board for you to choose from cold salads to warm bowls. But, you can also create your own salad. It was my first time here, so I asked the staff what their most popular items were. I finally settled on the Chicken Tostada warm bowl. Boy oh boy, was it good. I loved the warm spinach, quinoa, feta, tortilla chips, cilantro, and their lime cilantro jalapeño dressing. I got extra dressing on the side, and I drenched all of that into my bowl. Yum. It was quite pricey, but very satisfying and filling. If you want lighter fare, I would stick with ordering the cold salads. Here's to a healthier lunch/dinner option.
