Setting aside chains like Starbucks, we don't really have too many nice cafes in the area. So, I am happy Leaf & Bean is here to fill that void. I like their coffee but I don't like it that they run out of blueberry muffins so quickly. I have tried some of their sandwiches and I cannot complain. There is a wide selection of hot and cold beverages, including many that are favorites of non-coffee drinkers. Over the years they have built up their food menu to include a plethora of breakfast sandwiches, paninis, wraps, salads and soups (I highly recommend the Beef On Weck - café food doesn't get much better). They also have a sizable selection of desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth. Come for the atmosphere, the community or for one of the best indie café experiences in the Rochester area. Love, love, LOVE Leaf & Bean! You don't have to go into the city to find an awesome coffee house; just come on over to the west side! The coffee is great and they always have a decent variety of roasts and flavors. I appreciate that they also always have flavored decaf, which you don't always see at other coffee places. And the coffee flavors aren't just the traditional out of the box flavors. Yesterday I tried a Highlander's Roast with notes of whiskey. Delish! The coffee is just the beginning. The food. The FOOD. THE FOOD! Quite simply, everything is delicious. The menu is pretty expansive and they're willing to make any menu item a wrap, salad or panini. My favorite is the Haymarket wrap - turkey, lettuce, cranberry mayo and a balsamic glaze. They also have a good selection of desserts with some macaroons that are to die for! Yesterday I had a slice of brown cow cheesecake and I'm going back today for more. ;) The staff members are delightful. They make recommendations, they're patient and very hospitable. Sometimes I get a little intimidated going into coffee houses because I don't always know the lingo and what to order. But that isn't the case at L&B. Stupidest coffe shop in Rochester. Trash coffe every time I get it, literally asked for a sweet drink and they gave me sourpatch kids mixed with water and coffe, the most sour and watered down coffe I ever tasted. So nasty highly DONT recommend this place if you wanna start your day with a good cup of coffe. I suggest just driving down the road 500 feet and getting yourself some good Tim hortons or Dunkin. My mother and I arrived early for a movie at Tinseltown, so we decided to venture here for a quick coffee. The environment is friendly and warm, and on a Saturday afternoon the place was packed! There were numerous employees working the counter, and you knew they were taking care of everyone as quickly as they good. There were numerous coffee and drink choices. The menu for food also seemed very good, and a lot of people appeared to have been there for lunch. I stumbled upon Leaf & Bean while leaving the Dollar General. First impressions upon arrival: the space itself is pretty generous for a coffee shop and the vibe is very laid-back. Their food menu offers lots of great choices and variety. I ordered the Laredo Panini. I got it to go and it comes in this super cute Temp-Sak bag that keeps your food either hot or cold. Small detail, but def makes a difference! The Laredo is a chicken breast and pesto situation. And it was DELICIOUS. Firstly, the bread is super tasty on its own! (Its an herb baked bread) The chicken is tender, the pesto is very flavorful and the red onion adds a nice flavor/texture combo. I ordered a strawberry lemonade to help my panini go down, which was also very good! Will be back to try more! read more

Visited N. Chili area to drop off my daughter for college and Yelped coffee places. The Leaf & Bean showed up and we decided to try it for dinner. What a great little place. Probably smaller feeling due to the snow storm outside and obviously the patio area was not in use. Great selection and very tasty soups, salads, and sandwiches. I like flavored coffees that have the flavor incorporated into the beans, not from a liquid added to my coffee. They had options in abundance. Try it, you'll love it. read more

Cutest little coffee shop in Chili. I spent many a nights here when I was in high school. I used to meet friends for coffee and dessert here when we needed to catch up. I love the outside seating the most. The area gets a nice breeze and it makes it perfection. The inside can be a little loud and isn't well lite so the outside is way better. My favorite drink to get is their blended chai latte. I always try and purchase a bag of chai during the winter months. I am always a sucker for their baked goods. Stopped in here to grab some coffee after sushi at the Osaka next door. Got an iced coffee which was bland and was so light my boyfriend thought I ordered iced tea. He got an iced vanilla latte which was truthfully the best I've ever tasted, which is the only reason this place gets 2 stars. As far as customer service goes, I waited FAR too long for my drink and there were several baristas just milling around behind the counter, going as slow as can be. As a caffeine junkie and coffee house nut, I'm always looking for new places to hang out and to grab a cup of joe. After perusing Yelp for some new places to try, my fiance and I decided to go to Leaf and Bean and have a morning latte. The atmosphere of the cafe was relaxed, and since it was a Sunday morning, nobody was in there (I think we beat the church crowd - yay!). There was a good selection of brewed coffees, lattes, teas, and other cafe beverages. I noticed at least 6-8 different flavors of coffee to order, including my favorite, Jamaican Me Crazy. Two medium lattes only cost a little over $8, which is a good deal compared to the green mermaid shop down the road. Also available were an abundance of cakes, cookies, pies, and a food menu. We didn't order any food, so I can't vouch for value/flavor/etc. After receiving our drinks, my fiance and I sat down in some comfy chairs towards the back of the cafe. The dining area was clean, had plenty of seating options, and the tables weren't right on top of one another. The cafe is decorated in different jewel tones, with vintage-inspired artwork and shelves of coffee and merchandise. It's your typical cafe, but with more natural light (which is never a bad thing). The lattes were a good temperature, and had nice flavor to them. Next time I will try a regular cup of coffee, since you can't fairly assess a coffee house only drinking one latte ;) My fiance and I will be back, since it's right down the road from our house. It's nice to have a cafe closer to home with a decent selection of coffee and the coffee house environment. read more

I really love coming here and relaxing on my lunch break with my coworker. The staff, no matter how busy, are always friendly and the food is good. The Coldwater Panini and the roasted red pepper soup are pretty much my favorite things and always delicious. I had a salad a few times and it was pretty good- although I don't like the processed/ frozen chicken in it. I have only had coffee here and it's killer! That's not true, I once had a dessert that was immemorable, but stands out in my mind's taste buds, as delicious. The coffee is always great no matter what I've gotten. The ambiance is really cool. I have had a few meetings here just because of how comfy the place is. It's like a downtown hang out on the westside. That's my fav part of this place. The only downside is I've have gone there on three occasions and they've been closed. I don't recall the first 2x, all were pre-Covid, but the last was on a Sunday at 5pm which struck me as odd. And, the coffee is not cheap but its not a fast food coffee place. You're paying for cool ambiance. There is NO where in the 3zipcodes nearby to get a coffee on a Sunday after 8pm. except Starbucks but they closed shortly after and yuck, no thanks. I wish Leaf and Bean was open later that's only because I wish there was more Leaf and Bean. Reminds me of a place on Dewey/Ling 18years ago near the lake where I used to read cards on Tuesday and they'd have game nights on other evenings. At each table was binders full of facts about coffee. Like each tree only produces 1 can per year and they only live 3years. I'll keep this simple; The Leaf and Bean is hands down the best coffee shop I've ever been to and I've been to a lot of them. We have made it our chosen place for outstanding coffee drinks and food ever since they opened. This is a family owned and operated shop and couldn't be more different than the chain places. Soups, salads and sandwiches are delicious and prepared on site. For example, if you have the Beef on a Weck, the beef is roasted and sliced in a kitchen in the back. Many entrees are served with a homemade vinagrette that's sensational. The soup selection rotates daily, but if you're lucky, you'll be there on Mushroom Brie or Seafood Bisque day. A grilled chicken salad wrap is my favorite sandwich and the Blu Cashew is my favorite salad. Many of their selections are available in a half order so you can taste a couple things and not overdo. This time of the year you can enjoy outdoor dining amid the variety of flowers and plants or sit in air conditioned comfort and take in some of the interesting photos and eclectic ambiance. If you haven't been to the Leaf and Bean, do yourself a favor and get there soon. read more

The closest comparison for Leaf & Bean that I can think of is a Panera. Except imagine that Panera is local, offers local coffee, baked goods, and has better food. We're talking sandwiches that are always delicious and, importantly, put together with actual care. I know that might sound a little stupid but getting an order to go just to find your sandwich slapped together as if they had five seconds to do it is extremely unpleasant. I've had lunch/dinner here 40+ times and each time it's been picture-perfect. Now onto their drinks... I've had many of them, and their hot drinks are fantastic as well as their cold. The tiki-tea is delicious, and the thai iced coffee is supreme. Their frozen, blended drinks are also extremely good (dubbed blendaritas), both packing flavor and also not succumbing to that icy finish that most chain locations end up in (I highly suggest the Peanut Butter Mocha blendarita). Their baked goods seem mostly locally sourced, or ordered online (For some cakes, I think, but not sure). Either way I haven't had a bad experience and they sometimes offer "dollar deals" for day-old pastries. I've been coming here for years, and years, and so far the only thing I've ever been disappointed in was their iced coffee. It was surprisingly bland and weak, which is my only criticism. I get my iced coffee elsewhere now, since if I'm going to get a drink I'd prefer one of their chai concoctions or a blendarita. tldr: Panera but actually good, and not pretentious. read more

They had a Reuben on special last time we went, but it was actually a "corned beef special"---the difference is Reubens have sauerkraut and CBSs have coleslaw. Anyway, their Reuben (with slaw) was unbelievable. Perfect ratio of slaw to beef to bread. I've never been disappointed with their food, cookies, or drinks. The place is decorated in posters/art prints which are tastefully displayed. There are tables and some comfy chairs available. Want to buy fresh coffee beans or tea? This is the place! During the warmer months, their patio offers a nice option for seating, especially in the evening. Some go-to items that I regularly get are as follows: The Ashton sandwich, white hot chocolate, strawberry lemonade, and blended drinks. The drinks obviously flex with the different seasons, but the Ashton is a year round blast of tasty deliciousness. Bacon, turkey, and cheese on a delicious panini. It's insane. I always ask for an extra side of their dipping sauce because the flavor is just too good to only have one cup of it. The staff is usually friendly and it's almost impossible not to see someone I know because most people I know freaking love this place. If you haven't already been, consider stopping in.
