We are always impressed with our meals, drinks and the service at Mendon Brunch on the Brook. We love that this hidden gem has top quality coffee and cuisine. Everything on the menu is elevated and worth the prices. This is far from a greasy diner. It's a whole experience. Today, we ordered the skillet, a side of potatoes, a standard sausage, egg and cheese and then a specialty breakfast sandwich "The Brook". They have a buzzer system for table notification because seating is limited. (I wish we knew this prior to our first visit.) read more

Overall really good! We visited on a day they were closing early so they did run out of stuff and the staff didn't seem too excited to be there. The food is really the best part. It's a bit pricey, especially for regular coffee (and you only get 1 refill) but the food is good. We tried various items off the menu and missed out on the croque since they ran out of ingredients but the fried steak and the grits were out of this world. Stop in to try it if you're in town. First time trying this place. It's a cozy place indoor with rustic wood beams and only around 6-8 tables. We still only had to wait for a few minutes for a table. They also have additional seating at 2 bar/counter areas. Our waitress was very attentive and took great care of us. The food was amazing, although on the pricey side for breakfast, but you also aren't getting basic breakfast dishes. Well worth it for a treat or special breakfast. My wife had the Croque Madame and enjoyed it very much. My daughters had the French toast and The B.O.B sans the baguette because she is GF. Both enjoyed the dishes. I had the shrimp and grits with 2 poached eggs. I am a hearty eater and I had a hard time finishing but ultimately made my mom proud. They were delicious. Creamy, cheesy, and packed with flavor. Shrimp was perfectly cooked as were the eggs. Only things I would change; more outdoor seating in good weather as they are limited inside, and GF options. Otherwise we are definitely going back. Wanted to find a little diner on the way home from Waterloo and glad we found this place! It's small and very busy on a Friday so plan to wait for a table and wait a while for your food. Also such a bummer they were out of the croque madame and they didn't mention it until we were seated and after waiting so long for the table! This is the reason I chose to come there so I was really annoyed but starving so decided to try something else. It's younger kids doing the hosting and serving and seemed a little overwhelmed but I still took a star off for that. After we ate, I decided to still give them plenty of stars because the food was amazing and the presentation was fun. We tried a few things because we didn't now when or if we would be back. We tried the chicken fried steak, a side of cheddar grits, and bagels with cream cheese. All outstanding and the grits were my absolute favorite! Such a wonderful little spot! Visited with my grandma and cousins while visiting all the way from California. The food was a bit spendy but the quality was amazing. I got the skillet pancake and it was divine- such a wonderful cornmeal pancake with macerated strawberries and cream cheese. Everyone loved everything they ordered. Great fresh bagels as well. Only disappointing thing to me was the AI generated logo and imagery in the restaurant. Went to Mendon Brunch on the Brook yesterday morning with my girlfriend. I've been multiple times and it's always delicious. I've had the Breakfast Poutine, the Skillet, and the French Toast -- all very well done and clearly high quality. The space is cozy and comfortable, and the staff is always kind and attentive. The menu offered unusual items for upstate New York such as cheesy grits and a large variety of specialty coffees. We each ordered special coffees that were not served until the food was ready. The Cuban coffee seemed Watered down and not as strong as we've had in Miami. It would have been nice to know there would be such a wait though admittedly it was nice to have coffee with our meal. Egg platter was delicious. I was super excited to have grits but they were so filling with the quantity of cheese that I barely put a dent in my portion. I would give it no stars if I could. We waited 30 minutes for breakfast and no one came to check on us, didn't bring more coffee or give us any indication of when the food would come out. People at the next table had been waiting 50 minute, neither of us saw a waitress the whole time. Finally went in to check on food and were told we were in the rotation, even though people in side that came after us were already eating! Finally left and will never go back, no customer service at all. Don't go here unless you have all day to wait for your food. read more

Popped by this morning for breakfast, and I'm so happy we did. I am not exaggerating when I say this is quite possibly the best breakfast I've ever had out at a restaurant. The honey & spice cappuccino was like putting on a robe straight out of the dryer. Amazing flavor combo; a beverage I may have to break my "we have espresso at home" saying for. The homemade hash was excellent. I had to stop myself from inhaling the (perfectly cheesed and seasoned) grits. My breakfast sandwich (The Brook) was prepared in a way that let every ingredient shine, including, and especially, the caramelized onions. My toddler ordered a cinnamon sugar bagel with Tahitian vanilla cream cheese and fresh berries. I was bracing myself for the sugar rush, but I stole a bite and was so pleased with how...thoughtful it was? Not sure how to put this, but it wasn't just "hey let's take our regular recipe and dump cinnamon and sugar in it". It felt like some major thought went into how to make it simultaneously taste complex and simple. So delicious. We got a sample of the cinnamon bread and left with three half loaves Will try the cheddar biscuits next time. A cozy spot with tables and bar seating. Wow. This was great. Newer place, opened about a month but they are already firing on all cylinders. Spoke to one of the owners and he was super nice, very enthusiastic. Made a couple recommendations. We sat at the counter which was cool because we could see the open kitchen and watch the baker putting loaves into and out of the ovens. The smell of the baking bread was great. Started off the meal with a latte (me) and cappuccino (wifey). Great crafted coffees and the barista added some cute art on top. She got hers with cinnamon and brown sugar, really nice. I got the corned beef hash and she got the country fried steak with biscuits and sausage gravy. Both were fantastic. Huge portions that I wanted to finish but couldn't so we ended up bringing some home. All the food we saw going out looked great. The guy at the counter next to me got the skillet and I'd definitely try that too. Ended up getting some bagels and a baguette to bring home. The baguette was still warm from the oven, and as full as I was I still broke a piece off to eat while it was warm- good decision because it was great. Haven't had the bagels yet but based on everything else I am confident they are going to be fantastic. Parking is a bit sparse and it's not a big joint on the inside, so get there early and don't be afraid if there's a bit of a wait- it's worth it. Everything was absolutely delicious! My mom and I came for brunch on a sunday around 1030am and we only waited for seating for about 5min. The place was packed but service and care for customers was amazing. I got a croque madame and my mom got the avocado toast. You can tell everything is fresh and made with care! A Hidden Gem -- A True 10/10 Culinary Experience! This was our first visit, and what an amazing surprise! The food was absolutely delicious -- every bite felt like a true culinary experience. You can tell there's so much passion and thought behind everything, from the menu to the presentation. We took the time to read their story and how this wonderful place came to be -- it's clear that heart, creativity, and dedication are behind every plate. You know you've arrived somewhere special when you see several customers taking photos of their food before even taking a bite! We ordered the Shrimp and Grits, which was incredible -- rich, flavorful, and a very generous portion (more than my husband could finish!). The Croque Madame was equally delicious, and I couldn't finish mine either. Both dishes were absolutely outstanding. Plus the cheddar biscuit was scrumptious! The coffee was superb, the atmosphere quaint and charming, and every detail felt intentional and thoughtful. We went on a Sunday morning , arrived before 9 AM, which turned out to be perfect timing -- it got much busier after that. It's definitely worth the wait! It was a little chilly inside since it was cold out, but that's easily overlooked given how amazing everything else was. Brought up on bagels boiled then baked daily in a tiny shop, the bagels here are nostalgia with modern flavor touches. Freshly ground coffee is a treat. The space is small and often filled to capacity. Service has been attentive and accurate. Wait for takeout at one visit meant my coffee was cooling out of reach while single bagel was prepared. I am guessing staff turnover impacted the coordination. Overall, wonderful taste sensation in a pleasant atmosphere. read more

Everything others say is true. It's a small, warm, out-of-the-way spot with outstanding breakfasts (good for brunches too). Friendly staff, relatively quick service though you may have to wait for a table. There are plenty of bar seats if not. My docking a star is to reflect a bit of dissatisfaction about their pricing practices. Yes, it is more expensive than your ordinary diner, and worth it, but that's not the issue. I asked for something like honey or marmalade to put on the bare toast they served with their delicious corned beef hash and eggs. But you have to pay extra--I bought some apple butter. Then I asked for a "refill" of plain coffee as I was finishing my delicious cinnamon/honey cappuccino. They provide a refill of a basic coffee order, but I had to buy a cup of coffee in order to get some poured into my cappuccino cup! These are not normally extra charges and such nickel-and-diming practices do not impress, especially in a cafe with such good food and service, and high prices anyway. I hope they'll rethink how this appears. read more
