I have been going here for many years and always make it a stop when I'm in town. The only downside of this place is that there is almost always a line...it is very popular! They have a pretty comprehensive lunch menu with the loredo being my favorite. You order at the counter and then sit once you have your food. I most often stop there for a specialty coffee. They consistently have new specials and new pastries to choose from. Their management changed this year but I am happy to report it is still a wonderful consistent spot to stop at! read more

I am addicted to the Loredo panini! I've also tried their three cheese grilled cheese which is amazing as well. I used to enjoy buying drinks and getting food from this cafe during my lunch breaks, never had any problems in the past until I experienced poor customer service with the manager and staff recently that made me feel very uncomfortable. This place is such a west side gem! The ambiance of the place has been a perfect spot to get some work done from. The coffee drinks are delicious and the menu is extensive. There are a whole bunch of baked goods at the front of the counter. A cookie I have tried was great. I was also very pleased with the breakfast sandwich that I tried on my last visit and it was kindly brought out to me at my table after ordering from the counter. The only bit of confusion I had was at first understanding that you order drinks in one area and your food at another spot further inside at the counter. They kindly took my order at one spot at the time and clarified where you would normally order what. I plan to stop in often! The results are in: this place is awesome. Not only can I say their breakfast sandwiches are delicious, but definitely also their lunch sandwiches, pastries, and above all their coffee. We've purchased coffee beans for coffee at home and I am thoroughly impressed- the hazelnut one is delicious. And today we tried the Southern Pecan. YUM. This is usually my favorite place to grab a nice casual lunch or dinner or even a coffee with friends in my Bible group but last night I was very disappointed how rudely we were treated. We had just finished our dinner and sat down after putting our dishes in the bin when the Owner came over to us and asked us to move from the upfront seating table to the back of the restaurant as to make room for the owners 3 friends. We ate frequent patrons here and were very upset that we were asked to move after all we were there first and paid for a meal not just a coffee that these other patrons usually order. We are seriously reconsidering if we will continue to come here. We have never ever an owner ask us to move our seats! All we could do at that point was to leave! We are not happy that we were kind of pushed out from a place that we have been meeting at and enjoying our meals at for years! I don't quite understand the aesthetic (anything 60s, maybe?), but it seems to work quite well in this eclectic space. The shop offers breakfast and lunch meal options (mainly sandwiches or paninis), and a basic coffee menu. Seasonal coffee and latte drink options are offered - like the delicious white chocolate pumpkin latte! The breakfast sandwiches can be on a bagel or muffin, but are probably best if you eat pork and can add bacon/sausage/ham. Leaf and Bean is probably one of my favorite café in Rochester, everyone is always so kind, caring, and genuine. The customer service is always excellent, and they're always glad to serve you. :) Today I got the lobster bisque and it was wonderful. I asked the owner what one of their pastries were and he explained explained to me it's was an rhubarb tart ( if I remember correctly). I told him I'm personally not a fan of rhubarb but I but I was willing to try it out. He so kindly said he would just give it to me so he would have to feel bad if I didn't like it. He asked that I would give him my honest opinion, even if I didn't like it haha. I have attached a photo down below and it was wonderful. Leaf & Bean is my favorite coffee shop on the west side. They have a huge menu of drinks (coffee, teas, and other non-coffee options) and food, with soups, sandwiches, wraps, sweets, and more. The macarons are my favorite! I really like their specialty lattes; the Oxford is my favorite. They're definitely sweet though, so if you prefer only a bit of flavor ask for fewer flavor shots. I've only eaten in once or twice, but their sandwiches are great. Service is a little slow, but it's nothing too outrageous. The end product is always worth the wait. The staff is friendly, too. There's plenty of seating and free wifi, so this is a great place to meet friends or get work done (maybe bring headphones if you're doing the latter). Every restaurant in this plaza is good, so if one is busy go to another. The whole plaza is magical and this place is definitely a contributing factor, great lunch spot! I came here for lunch with a friend and her daughter. We all had excellent sandwiches/paninis. The coffee drink I ordered was on point. I couldn't decide what to get. The cookie I got was delicious too. Oatmeal butterscotch. It's cute inside. I like the art on the walls. I loved the courtyard. I wish we could have eaten there but it was pouring. This place is ah-mazing. Plenty of seating, super cozy atmosphere, and an abundant variety of food and beverage choices. Almost the sort of place I'd expect to be a free-standing location in the city, but it's in a plaza with all kinds of parking. First, I was met with the display of "cruffins" - croissant muffins filled with goodness like pumpkin pie and chocolate. In the next case were other baked goods like macarons, and then on to the full coffee & tea (because "Leaf and Bean") menu. A separate bar for ordering sammies (both breakfast & lunch kinds). Staff was cheerful, attentive, and everything arrived as ordered. They've made great use of their space with quite a lot of seating, and the chairs aren't just all hard-backed kinds, either. I stayed well beyond the time I'd planned to leave because I was pretty comfy in my leather arm chair. Can't wait to go back in warmer weather to try the outdoor seating, too. Leaf and Bean is one of my favorite little spots on the West Side. They have a nice little niche in the community, for students that want to get out a little farther from Roberts, date nights, friend meet ups, or casual business meetings. I come here all the time for coffee or a bite to eat. They have over 42 different global varieties that they roast locally. Leaf and Bean also has a lot of loose leaf teas for non-coffee drinkers, lemonades, juices, etc. I have never been disappointed with their coffee, and they have a lot of fun drinks like the Thai Ice Coffee. In the winter, I love to come and order a panini with their soup. They typically have 1-2 soup du jour, and the Tomato Basil knocks it out of the park. A lot of their paninis come on a delicious focaccia bread, with the nice little grill marks on it. My two favorites are the Loredo (chicken pesto) and the Haymarket (turkey cheddar). The interior is cozy with a bunch of comfy chairs and nooks, and the outside has a beautiful patio garden to enjoy in the nice weather. Even though it is located in a little strip plaza, Leaf and Bean definitely has its own personality. read more

Worth the drive!!! We live about 30 min from Chili and we will go out of our way to eat her. Everything is FRESH! Their coffee is a local fav with a broad selection of specialty drinks! I get the hype. It's a super cool looking cafe with generous sitting spaces, gigantic cookies on display, a panini/wrap/salad made to order station, and wonderful aromas of coffee. I've been hearing about this place for over a year and finally went last week. It was super busy- lunch hour! we got there at 11:30am on a Friday. We ordered to go: a chicken caesar wrap and the black and blue panini. Delicious! But wish they were bigger lol as a first timer, I didn't know we had to order food at the made-to-order counter/station which was past the cash register area. Luckily I went to search for a menu and that's how I found out about it. So you place the order first and then go back to the cashier to pay for it. L&B has been a staple for most West Siders since it opened in 2003. Go for the delicious food and stay for the "just busy enough" ambiance. I am a little biased as a former employee (2009-2011), but the staff is friendly, knowledgeable and MANY of them have been working there for 5+ years. There is a family feel and commitment to consistency in both the food and coffee drinks. Soups are made in house and the mustard vinaigrette that comes with all sandwiches and wraps is CRAZY good. Opt for a side salad and 1/2 panini for a filling lunch or dinner - my fave is 1/2 Haymarket panini with a side Market salad, but it is hard to go wrong with most things on the menu. Ordering can be a wee bit confusing the first time you go, so order food first at the counter farthest from the door, then bring your order slip over to the cash register to pay and order drinks. Food is brought out to your seat, while drinks are called out at the counter. Go #treatyoself to something delicious and see for yourself! read more
