Of the three establishments I've had Banh Mi Thit, Le Yellow Sub has, by far, the better sandwich. Banh Mi 101: you gotta have a good French roll...a slight crunch to the crust, a soft interior with just a little "chew" to it. I had the marinaded/smoked pork (highly recommended). It had all the familiar Banh Mi trademarks, cilantro, fresh jalapeño, mayo spread, cucumber. Mine had tomato...wasn't expecting it. I could have done without it (it makes the roll a little soggy). The flavors?!? Spot on!!! A bit spicy, but I like that. I lived in Houston for 53 years, where there's a large Vietnamese community...and great Vietnamese food. Try it, you won't be disappointed. For $6, prices are super reasonable considering the high quality ingredients used. I'm talking well-seasoned chicken, beautiful cucumbers & tomatoes, pickled radish, cilantro.....and a subtle kick of spicy sauce. Just perfection. I loved the way the fresh-baked, soft baguette held it all together, making for a mess-free, easy to eat sandwich. Impressive. Everything is made fresh to order, so do anticipate a bit of a wait. While chatting with the friendly owner, I found out that she makes everything (except for the bread) from scratch! Where has this place been all of my life?! Update: July 2019: I just got back from a 2 week trip to Vietnam where I tried some authentic Bahn Mi, including Bahn Mi Phuong featured in Anthony Bourdains TV show and I must say Le Yellow Sub is still the best Bahn Mi I have ever eaten. Her combo of freshly grilled meats, abundant pickled veggies and fresh herbs reigns supreme to anything I tried in Vietnam. Give her a try and please exercise some patience if you have to wait, she works very hard all by herself. I recommend calling ahead for takeaway if you are pressed for time during lunch hour. Original Review: This place has quickly become one of my favorite lunch stops in town. Great bang for your buck and leaves me feeling full without having to take a nap afterwards. I missed out on years of banh mi goodness because I only tried one from bale a long time ago and hated it. Le's lemongrass chicken banh mi is a great deal at $6.25 and it is packed with flavor. I appreciate that she uses fresh cooked chicken instead of the processed lunch meats found at other places. The pickled vegetables add a nice crunchy texture and nice flavor contrast to the savory chicken. There's nothing quick about this food truck that's operated by a single lady. The wait was horrible (minus 1 star). It was probably over an hour before we received our order of 6 banh mis, and there's was only one person ahead of us. We got a mix of chicken and pork lemongrass banh mis. I have to admit they were both flavorful, well-prepared, and stuffed with just the right amount of veggies. This is the worse Vietnamese place I have ever been to. We put in our order for only 2 items and waited an hour. The food was not good at all. The bun salad was horrible. The noodles was probably made a few days ago not fresh. The vegetables was not fresh at all. It was old. It certainly was not worth the wait and not worth it at all. This place was pretty tricky to find. It's located on the same street as KAI store address: 2088 Kilauea st. Located between the KTA drive in sign and the puainako drive in sign. It's located in a residents drive way so keep an eye out! We ordered the days special which was Bún lemongrass chicken with spring rolls. She was so nice and added in some lemongrass pork to try. This dish was very tasty! The meat was super flavorful. We also ordered the Banh Mi lemongrass chicken sandwich which was also tasty. It was a lil spicy for my boyfriend but I could of used a lil more heat myself! While we waited for our order she gave us some pickled veggies to try with. Complimentary ice tea. I've had the lemongrass tofu bahn mi and the pumpkin tofu bahn mi from here. They are the best bahn mi I have EVER had. I cannot impress upon you how delicious these sandwiches are. I've also had the vegetarian egg rolls and they are also quite yummy. The lady is so sweet and friendly too. She makes everything to order, so everything is hot when you get it. You must go to this place! Coming from Toronto where I thought we had good Vietnamese food, and having been to Vietnam I have to say that this place does offer very authentic and great Vietnamese food. The bahn mis are superb, filled with a lot of meat, this bun is overflowing with the fillings. The noodle salad is also very tasty, noodles are well cooked with a nice bite to them. Papaya salad is more of a Thai thing, but again it is amazing. Very refreshing and you get a really big portion. Drinks are delicious, the fresh lime juice is sweetened just enough. It is not overly sweet which I find many places often do for citrus drinks. Owner is also very friendly! Talk to her as she is very personable and welcoming! read more

Ordered a spicy chicken banh-mi and a tofu banh-mi for lunch. Like previous reviewers claimed, the food was fresh and tasty. Husband had the spicy chicken and it reminded him of banh-mi he ate while stationed in Viet Nam. Authentic! My tofu sandwich tasted clean and fresh. Yes, the revues are spot on. We both had the lemongrass chicken sandwiches. They were great, even the bun was warm it was also a great value ($6). It has a good amount of protein in each sandwich along with a sauce that you can order as medium or hot. Medium was just right for me and hubby said that his hot was indeed hot, but not so much so that he couldn't enjoy all the other flavors. Yes, it was quite a wait. The Kimchi sausage fried rice with salad special was delicious. My 4yo son devoured it as well. The dressing on the salad is so yummy too. I don't write reviews often but I had to write a review RIGHT AWAY for Le Yellow Sub 2 Go because of my amazing experience there. I showed up well after the owner had closed not knowing her business hours. One picture of the menu here on yelp says 4 and another 6, so even though the Yelp business hours say closing is at 3, I thought I'd take a chance by seeing if she was still open. She does indeed close at 3. Although I showed up quite some time after this, the owner happened to still be there with some friends and she decided to offer to make me food anyways! I had the vegetarian Banh Mi which has tofu and all the normal Banh Mi veggies in it. It was absolutely delicious and HUGE (twice the size of my hand)! It was such a treat not only because she was so kind and made me food after her normal business hours, but also because I used to have Banh Mi often on the mainland where I am from. It was comfort food for me, especially while I am pregnant. Keep in mind that the owner runs a one woman show-she takes the order and makes the food herself, and I can tell she makes it with love. Definitely worth what I payed for it, which is less than other places I enjoy eating at in town (which is not many places). I will definitely be back and will bring my boyfriend with me.
