We have so longed to visit Rome and alas we are here. And guess what? Right next to our AirBnB (around the corner from the Pantheon) is one of the finest meals I have had, in a perfect setting, with sublime service.
Le Volte was a recommendation from our hosts and what a gem. The owner served us, attentively, thoughtfully. The decor was framed pictures of 50s and 60s film stars, elegant and simple table clothes, comfortable chairs, a lovely bar. The place felt lived in, elegant yet very comfortable. Our kids were as at home as we were.
The menu was simple and extraordinary. The house wine was both affordable and light - pefect for a late lunch. We had fried artichokes to start, along with a salad, and a prosciutto dish with honey and parmesan on the side. My wife had a lightly seared salmon steak (it was excellent) but where we really scored was with the pasta dishes. I had a fettucini and veal ragu, my daughters shared rigatoni with a light red sauce with a hint of pepper. We took out a lasagna dish for our oldest and she loved it.
Dessert was tiramisu and pannacotta, with esspressos. All classics, all perfectly done.
We can't wait to go back. Lucky for us, Le Volte is just a few steps away. read more
