Two of my favorite things in life: 1. Having my hands and feet attended to. 2. Not getting out of bed. Never had I thought a place existed that catered to both these joys, at least until I went to Le Studio Weinrob! Here, when you get your nails done, you're not hunched over a manicure table or crammed into one of those stupid pedicure thrones that don't move back and insist on giving you kidney-punch "massages." Instead, after a quick foot soak in a footbath, you lay back on a reclining table, the lights get turned down, and you get to nod off into a dreamy state of langour as Liliane trims your nails and smooths off the rough stuff! The table is fully automated, so she's able to elevate it up and down as needed, so you're not playing a game of "okay, you want this foot? No, the other foot? Put it in? Oh, put it BACK in!" Absolutely incredible. Plus, her studio is in an office suite with only a handful of treatment rooms, so you don't get the frenetic pace that you'd get at a lot of salons and day spas. I'm virtually certain I fell asleep more than once :) The verdict: if you're looking for a more relaxed, less hectic take on nail services in DC, I definitely suggest you give Le Studio a try! read more

I decided to give Liliane a shot after seeing a Groupon offer for a Brazilian wax from her salon. Truth be told, I was a bit weirded out when I found out her "Le Studio" was now inside her very own home. My initial thought: "Um, am I at the right place?" Gotta say, things didn't look too promising up until the moment I stepped into her apartment. Much to my surprise, though, Liliane was very professional and efficient (a PLUS!). She was also very personable and great about making me feel relaxed throughout the whole experience, albeit the pain factor. I went to see Liliane last weekend, and I've spent the last five days thinking about how to review the experience. As many folks have noted Le Studio is in Liliane's apartment, which I didn't really mind (the "studio room" is separate and is really professional. You forget you're in her apartment until you leave and see her gorgeous big red cat). I went for a facial and it was a really efficient, thorough, cleansing facial - I left feeling like years of grime had been removed from my face. Unlike other facial experiences I've had, though, this wasn't particularly relaxing (for starters, the first 20 minutes, there was some very weird classical march music playing, which made me feel like I was in a reenactment of the War of 1812.) The steam machine was also pretty intense, and some of the treatments sting a bit. In the end, I felt like my skin looked great when I left, and I'm looking forward to going back for maintenance, but I wouldn't go to Liliane for the kind of facial where someone smears good smelling stuff on your face and you leave feeling like you had a massage. _____ NOTE: cash and check only (no credit cards accepted). read more

This was about as pleasant an experience as a brazillian waxing can be. I bought the Groupon and was looking forward to getting all my little hairs removed, but then I found out that the wax studio was in a home apartment! This was not good news to me, I was not looking forward to going into a strangers home and being undressed from the waist down (the first time meeting them, anyway). But, to my surprise, Liliane's home studio is lovely, and for some strange reason it was comforting. Her home studio is also VERY clean - which is obviously very important. Liliane worked very efficiently, and did a remarkable job. Afterward Liliane gave me some tips on what to do, and what not to do to make sure I was as comfortable as possible. Let's call this "Brazilian Newbie"....I saw a deal for waxings at Le Studio on Groupon. I'd been toying with the idea of getting a Brazilian but was really afraid after a previous bad experience elsewhere. After reading the rave reviews here, I decided to give Liliane a shot. I'm very pleased to say that Lilian TRULY lives up to her reputation. Her warmth and professionalism quickly put me at ease. Her experience, knowledge, and attention to detail made a potentially horrible experience, a quite pleasant and as painless as possible one. She also educated me on "after care" and what to do if the pain persists for longer than a few hours, which it didn't! I HIGHLY recommend visiting her for all of your needs, especially for waxings (if you want to minimize the pain factor). read more

I purchased a Groupon for Brazilian with Liliane. Scheduling an appointment was a hassle and the day of she asked to reschedule the day or time. Getting to her location was easy to find and right by the Van Ness metro. So I found out the reason for her temporary relocation to her apartment building is because the her office building was being renovated. Liliane was quite pleasant and friendly, however the waxing was not. The wax was too hot and uncomfortable. After this experience, I will stick with my regular place and pay much more for the peace of mind and for the comfort of my nether regions! read more

Let's just dive right in: Cons: She doesn't answer the phone - scheduled appointment through emails and her replies are very short which made me feel like I couldn't ask questions. Her salon is in her apartment and there was no parking. Valet/concierge was extremely unhelpful even though her website states they will park your car for you- they didn't. He had me park in a fire lane! The apartment complex is pretty big and of course I got super lost trying to find my way out. SHE HAS A CAT!!!! I am NOT animal friendly and I HATE HATE HATE cats even more than roaches or rats. I almost had a full out panic attack when I saw it. Pros: She is so super sweet when you meet her. She does an excellent job of making you feel comfortable and really tries to help ease you through the pain. She also tries to get through it as quickly as possible. My lady parts (although painfully red and sore right now) will probably be gorg once the irritation/inflammation wears off. She could tell I don't like thin eyebrows so she did her best to clean my unruly (2 months no wax) brows up without making them thin. Overall her personality and the fact it was $25 (living social deal) earned her the extra star for a 4 star rating. read more

I've been going to Liliane for the past year and a half to get bikini waxes. As mentioned by other reviewers, she works out of her apartment in Van Ness. Don't be weirded out by the idea of an in-apartment wax; Liliane is very professional and the apartment is lovely. Liliane's bikini waxes are fantastic - she is quick, professional, and as waxes go, it's not too painful.* I had one negative experience where Liliane and I had a miscommunication about how I wanted my eyebrows shaped - they ended up far skinnier than I wanted. I was really upset when she gave me the mirror at the end of the session, and to her credit, she comped the service and apologized profusely. She's a sweetheart and felt really bad. Since then, I've stuck with just bikini waxes, but I don't hold anything against her. I would definitely recommend Liliane for your bikini waxes - she's a pro! -- *Let's be honest, friends - since when is ANY bikini wax completely painless? I never trust people who tell me, "Oh, the waxer was so good - I didn't feel a thing!" Uh huh - sure you didn't, honey. But good waxes hurt less than bad ones, and Liliane's are definitely the former. read more

I bought the Groupon for a full Brazilian. Liliane was nice enough and her studio in the apartment didn't bother me. I've gotten Brazilians before - and this one was not my favorite. Problems: - You're on a table with bright lights in your face, not super comfortable. - The wax is a little too hot - it burns your skin, making it a bit more painful than it should be. - She went over certain areas several more times than other places usually do, and somehow there were still some hairs left. - Even though this was a "front and back" waxing, she was not super thorough in certain areas and didn't get everything. - I had horrible in grown hairs afterward and usually don't have that many - super painful. Everything about it has already been said: hot wax, not thorough enough, pain afterwards, and quick hair regrowth. This is coming from someone who's been getting Brazilians for 5 years and who has done plenty herself, as well (so I'm fine with the typical amount of pain). I get brazilians regularly in georgetown, but decided to try this place after seeing the $25 groupon. I started getting nervous when I walked into the dumpy office building where it was located, but after seeing the studio decided to give her a chance. Liliane was very nice and professional, however, the wax itself was terrible. The wax was about 50 degrees too hot, and even after saying something to her, didn't get any better. She told me it hurt because the areas were sensitive since she'd already gone over them once....my skin was not happy. Afterwards she poured about a pound of powder on me and gave some aftercare instructions. When I got home I saw that she missed a lot of area... which is bizarre since it took her a half an hour to do and I'm used to them taking 5 minutes. It's now been a week and a half since I've been and it's already growing back which is way quicker than usual. She had other services there which may be nicer, but for waxing I definitely do not recommend it, especially if the regular price tag is $ 50. read more

Nice. She works fast and is very knowledgeable and ensures you are comfortable. She also made suggestions that were helpful in where removal was or wasn't reccommended. Go early give yourself time to find the apt. And it's a nice studio within a private home and isn't sketchy. She has it set up quite well. I took the bus that's stops across the avenue on her block. I've been getting bikini/brazilian waxes for about 10 years. I've never had such a bad experience. Despite me explicitly telling her that the wax was too hot, she did not alter the temperature. I now have a burn on....well let's just call it a very uncomfortable place. And, after all that, it's not even thoroughly done compared to other waxes I've had. I would NEVER go back. Not even with another groupon/buywithme type deal. I would rather pay a bit more and get a job that is better. And I have found a place in DC that does a great job for not that much. Today was my first visit to Liliane and I am sold! Not only was she incredibly friendly and welcoming she also did a great job. Her studio is located right downtown in an unassuming office building but once you walk through the doors of Suite 905 it is warm and inviting. She even had a pitcher full of water infused with fresh grapefruit! I didn't try a glass since it was far too cold outside for me to be drinking ice water but rest assured that when I go in there in the summer I will! I've been going to Liliane for nearly 20 years. I've followed her from 17th St. to I St. to 11th St, and now to her home studio. The reason? A wonderful, caring, relaxing experience. I even entrusted my mom to her for a massage and mani-pedi. I go for facials once a month, gycolic acid peel, waxing and massage. My skin looks incredible, a good decade younger than I am. Someone wrote that they didn't like the music she plays. My question: Why didn't you ask her to turn it off if it bothered you. She'd happily accommodate. As to pain from waxing. Excuse me?! Hair is being pulled out of your skin. You expect this not to hurt? Liliane always slathers on a soothing lotion and by the evening, it doesn't smart a bit. read more

I had a Living Social deal for the $25 partial bikini wax and eyebrow wax combo. I was a little horrified when I discovered that the waxing would be done in Liliane's apt., but the reviews here seemed to suggest that I'd be fine, so I went ahead with it. I'm really glad that I did. Liliane is a very petite, Russian woman who is super sweet and accommodating. The studio is separated by vertical blinds from the rest of her apt., and I didn't see the cat that a few other people mentioned. Overall, the place was very clean and Liliane's manner was great. This was not my first bikini wax, so I'm used to the full exposure, but Liliane was very careful and meticulous. She gave me instructions about where to lay and how, and gave me a towel to cover with. She also made sure that I was always partially covered at all times with the towel. This was a huge plus. She also walked me through every step of what she was doing, warning me before she pulled the wax strip off and telling me when she was applying powder, etc. I did feel that the wax was too warm, as another commenter noted, but I told her right away and she cooled it off after that. Overall, she did a nice job, and was quick and professional. She also didn't make a big deal or give subpar service because I was using a Living Social deal. For $25, this was a STEAL. read more

Just coming out a 1 hour and more magical experience with a magician ! the complete facial was a wonder, the relaxation after, a bonus you don't want to end... The studio was a beautiful place with candles and soft music, a good smell of lavender and beauty products. A relaxing time only for myself. My face skin is completely renewed, smooth, hydrated, relaxed and I feel brand new ! Liliane is friendly, works professionally, the studio is clean and cosy. Definitely worth it ! I went to Liliane every 6 weeks for about 2 years while I lived in DC. I only ever got facials, but they were always outstanding. I've been to a few other aestheticians for facials, and always enjoyed them too. But hers stand out as far and away the best at actually making my skin better. She spends a lot of time doing a very thorough cleaning, multiple masks, and unique procedures (including an electric stimulation thing that I think is only common in Europe - I've never had it anywhere else in the US). One thing is that I think the facials she gives are primarily about improving your skin, not primarily about feeling good. I also find them super relaxing and think they feel great, but if you're looking more for just feeling good you might be disappointed. Oh, and Liliane is the sweetest person ever! i have been going to Liliane Weinrob's Le Studio for over 20 years--first started when she was located at the I street location and then followed her to Metro location--she's the absolute best at facials and at creating the most wonderful oasis-and she's so expert at what she does--i would follow her no matter where she went! In truth, my family and friends all noticed when i was getting her facials---and i let them know what i was doing--and they told me to keep it up--when i couldn't go for a while b/c of illness--everyone noticed my face didn't look as good anymore and they said so--my acne scars became obvious again.... and i looked older....and all said get thee to Liliane!! and i did--it's obvious when you don't keep going! I first found out about Liliane's when a friend gave me a gift certificate for one of her facials--and told me she and friends we had in common went to her. I went once with certificate in hand--and have never stopped --now it's been over two decades.....-Liliane knows what your face needs--and the relaxation you need--she reads people beautifully....and gives you the facials you require---i have many friends who have gone to her even longer than i have--and we all follow Liliane where ever she is located-my sister adores her facials--and wants them when she comes to DC for visits--she gets them in NM and says no one is better than Liliane--she's preaching to the congregation! So, my recommendation couldn't be more honest or more encouraging--i and my friends swear by her services and her warm and always edifying professionalism.....she has given me products that make a notable difference with my face and taught me about skin care....and i give Le Studio gift certificates --and everyone LOVES getting them. Oh, yes, I have gone to Red Door and Hyatt spas for facials b/c of gift certificates i got to those places from those who obviously didn't know about Le Studio! I hated those experiences and never returned to either. Those are cold "manufactured" relaxation spas--they have commercial atmospheres that viscerally feel false to me... and i can say their facial schedules are just taking you.... and i felt like a body in a moving factory line at those spas, despite their (trite) attempts at looking and acting posh..... Once you know the difference with Le Studio, you will surely agree you were not getting your money's worth anywhere else. And you know those chains are not relaxing---the cacaphony in those places until you get taken back to a quiet area--but then still it is noisy--you hear the business check out counters and other clients throughout the business establishment. And loud clients there always are. Typically we are forced to sit together waiting in common areas or in mani/ped areas with lots of other clients-- unable to escape hearing others' phone conversations or eavsdropping on boorish chats between "spa'ing" friends--ugh---to my mind, that is not relaxing or conducive to a pleasant escape and pampering...especially once you have gone to Liliane's--and know the 180 degree difference. Also, you know at Le Studio you will invariably have a truly relaxing escape in an atmosphere that is authentic... and PEACEFUL. She magically creates that in all of her locations....and SHE is authentic and warm. Also, she schedules her clients in a manner to avoid our waiting or even seeing each other! if we do ever see another client--it's on our way in and their way out--each of us with a big knowing shared grin between us! but mostly it is just you in a pampered world. And she eliminates noise as much as possible--you are just there to relax and take a mini-mental and body vacation. She's on metro still--easy to get to--and valet parking! Le Studio is DC's hidden jewel. And while i tend to want facials, my friends go for her massages and other services as well--she has a full salon so all the services you'd expect--but it's the Liliane-factor that no one can replicate--and for which you'll find yourself returning . I know with her schedule that her new temporary location is even more booked than ever--but i know from experience she can always somehow work with your needs and schedule. Once you enter the new temporary location at Van Ness South, you are taken away to Provence, France in an instant. I love the look! I have been going to Le Studio for at least a dozen years...and I can still recall my first visit. I was delighted to meet an elegant, upbeat Frenchwoman of charm, grace and skill. I knew I would return. To this day, when I need a respite from daily life and an experience to boost my spirits, off to Le Studio I go for a relaxing facial. I will admit to purchasing the products sold by Lilian -- not only because they are stellar -- but the scent of them in my home takes me to my "happy place." While I didn't have a *bad* experience per se, I won't be back for waxing here. I was fine with everything until I noticed that Liliane was double dipping her wax sticks sometimes. unfortunately this is when she was almost done. That's pretty much the ONE thing that will keep me from ever going back to a place for waxing. Also, I was there for a full brazilian waxing, and she didn't do the full job. The only reason I didn't bother to mention this to her is because it was after I had noticed the double dipping. First you enter the cosy, lovely and clean room and smell the perfume of the delighting candles. The light is off and the atmosphere relaxing. I did not hear a "military march" but in the contrary a very smooth music with the song of birds. The view from the window is just amazing... Did all the stressed ladies who wrote frustrating reviews even noticed ? Well, you get undressed and slip on a little cotton white bathroom robe, then lie down the bed, which has a warming mattress. Go for a total facial. This voluptuous moment include 1 hour (more, honestly) of different treatments, smooth scrub, serum, cleaning, vaporing, full massage of the face, with a relaxing time while Liliane takes care of your hands and feet for a moistering massage (while you generally fall asleep). Then, waxing of the eybrows and moistering of the face including the lips. After that, you feel completely brandnew, your face is relaxed and moistered and you don't even want to move ! All the stress has been removed with the durty of your skin ! Liliane is just perfect, professional, friendly, efficient and takes care of your desires to pamper you. If you are so frustrated and not only dare asking what you want, well, it's too bad for you ! You really miss something ! (I say that because when I read "the wax was too hot", well ask for less !!!)
