I am not sure if I went on a bad day or something but my last visit wasn't the best. Service is very unfriendly. I walked in and no acknowledgment whatsoever. Heck, not even a simple hi. It was more of a "hurry tfu and order already". I ordered. Prices are now 2 dollars for 5 baby egg rolls. As I waited for my food, I literally saw all the staff gathered together in a circle and talked or gossip. Mind you, it was only 3, but like, who is working on my food? Finally after 20 minutes for two sandwiches and baby egg rolls, my order is ready. My partner asked for Sriracha sauce and the girl at the counter said "it's right there you can just grab it" idk, to me, it came off rude. I totally get the hating your job portion but at least fake it till ya make it lol The food was ok. The sandwich tasted fine but I wish it were a little more hot. Maybe my drive home is what cooled it down, but aww man, definitely room in improvement for service.

Amazing food, great prices. Thai tea was sooo good. Fast service and friendly staff. Definitely would come back.

I didn't expect to find the best Banh Mi I'd ever had to be in Modesto. But Le Saigon is legit. I asked the girl working what was her favorite sandwich and followed her order to get the Pork belly sandwich and BBQ beef sandwich. The pork belly sandwich by far is the tastiest banh Mi I'd ever had, the fatty pork belly and sweet/savory sauce that was mayo based mixed with pickled pickled veggies and crispy baguette is a mighty fine combo. I had to wait a bit for the sandwich to be made but it was worth it. The store also doubles selling Asian food and condiments but the ambiance reminds me of sitting in a restaurant in Asia with a few seats to the side. I don't know when I'll come back to Modesto but I look forward to eating this Banh Mi again.

What a cute, no-frills place to get banh mi in Modesto! My husband and I were in the area for my dog's annual and we didn't want to sit down at a restaurant. It was a hot day and banh mi sounded like a great idea. Le Saigon caught my eye. I noticed some of the mixed reviews but generally the banh mi seemed promising. The exterior of the shop is pretty ghetto. It's next to a gas station and a liquor store. Then again, it's Modesto. If you blink you'll drive right by. There's some unmarked parking in the back and only one disability spot in the front. The interior of the shop is teeny. There's a small area to sit if you wish, but the majority of people get their food to go. The AC was blasting when I went in, so it was comfortable. Le Saigon also offers some vermicelli bowls as well as spring rolls, and even various soups. Catering and party trays are available. I went for the cold cut combo banh mi for myself and the pork belly banh mi for my husband. I also ordered some baby egg rolls. For $2 per order that price is hard to beat! I also got a Thai tea w/ boba for myself, but they have plenty of other options if you want something else to drink. My order was ready in less than 10 minutes. I was watching the staff prepare various orders while I waited. They looked pretty efficient and seemed to have a system down. We drove off to find a shaded spot to enjoy our banh mi and baby egg rolls at, and I couldn't wait to dig in. Someone said that the banh mi was too small for their liking. I strongly disagree. It was the perfect size for lunch and also filled with pickled veggies. I was very happy with the ratio of meat to veggies, and while the bread was not crunchy, I don't have an issue with it. It still tasted fresh. The baby egg rolls were so addicting, haha. We actually went back to order more to take home for dinner later, they were so crispy and paired so well with the sweet chili sauce. Next time I want to order the Vietnamese egg rolls. I can only imagine how good those are if the baby egg rolls were delicious already. I enjoyed the Thai tea, and they even used the ice that I like. The boba was decent, it was a bit too soft and chewy, but I'm not going to complain much about free boba anyway. The 16 oz was perfect for me, but if I wanted more Thai tea, next time I'd definitely get the 24 oz since it's only $1 more. I'd definitely recommend supporting Le Saigon for your banh mi fix! It's rare enough to find good Asian food in the Central Valley, let alone banh mi. The next time I'm in the area (which isn't often), I would love to try some other items!

I thought the banh mi was okay. The bread was super fresh, but a bit hard to eat. The pork was pretty fatty. Service was okay. The space itself is not particularly inviting; I would not want to sit and eat a meal there. For that reason, I don't think I would return.

Im not a review guy but the service here is terrible. The young skinny lady at the counter did not greet us or welcome us once we were ready to order at the counter . Red flag #2 they took 20 minutes to make 2 sandwitches . Red flag#3 the bread was stail the meat on both sandwitches cold like out the fridge type maybe microwaved very lightly. Red flag #4 my stomach hurt after consuming 2 bites off . I have had very delicouse bhan mi sandwitches in other establishments and food is prepared with love it shows . i dont recomend this place for bhan mi sandwitches.

Sandwich's are so full with great quality meat, packed and filled with the perfect ingredients they definitely aren't skimping here !! 10/10 best bahn mi sandwich I've ever had !! , the sweetest woman in the front helped me as a first timer , she was the best and I am very happy with the such great quality and kindness !

Baby Egg Rolls .. you're seeing the bottom of the bag that ripped open from the broth.

Ordered through door dash and half my broth was gone. I got Udon soup and baby egg rolls. The broth that spilled out of the soup soaked the egg rolls bag which caused the bag to rip on the bottom and all my egg rolls fell out when I was removing them from the plastic bag except the one I ate straight from the bag. Udon soup was missing fried garlic and the broth was very very bland. It seems like it was supposed Khao piek sen which is like a Lao chicken noodle soup. Idk if that's what they're trying to go for but it could be improved. Egg rolls tasted like ground chicken and pepper. Tasted like McDonald's chicken nuggets honestly. This place has really gone downhill over the past few years. It's a shame because it used to be one of my top 3 spots to go for Asian food.

This place is a great discovery and worth coming back to. Had the banh mi, egg rolls, egg, and another sandwich (I forget which) food was 50/50 for my taste (I would give it 3 1/2 if I could) but I will definitely be back for the Bahn mi and to try more super cheap apps! read more

Always order number 1 with extra pate. It never fails me! Once I find a good sandwich spot, I always stick to it. Their steamed buns are always great for on the go and the smoothies are pretty good. I always get Thai tea with boba to fulfill my sweet cravings. They also have snacks on the side, like chips, candies, and to-go drinks. They get pretty busy, so make sure to call in your orders! read more

I was a regular customer but after my recent experience I'm not coming back. I made an order on the phone and the girl who was taking my order misheard me. So instead of 1 beef sandwich she ordered 4... when I got to the restaurant I was shocked that my bill was so high. After I told her that she got the order wrong, instead of apologizing she gave me an attitude. She was some Mexican lady with long nails. Usually their cashiers are friendly but this one was extremely rude. To top it off, my sandwich was not double meat and it was super salty. I wonder if they have a new cook because it doesn't taste the same. They should consider getting a new cashier. read more

I come here often, the sandwiches are really reasonable priced. You get a lot of food for your money. The food is freshly prepared and made to order. They have several cold cases that have drinks and ready packed meals as well. I always order ahead, so I don't have to wait in line. They always seem busy and I have found going early when they open is the best time. Try the chicken sandwich or the #18 chicken salad. A hidden gem in a dodgy part of town. Hardly a secret (see the high number of reviews) but definitely worth a visit . We started off with the spring rolls and each of us shared two banh mi. Both banh mi were excellent, will gobs of filling and flavor, with that sweet spicy kick that is traditional. The spring rolls were excellent as well . Everything seemed prepared to order and I definitely am coming back to try other items off the menu. The phone never stopped ringing (even though it was late Saturday morning) I have a feeling this place does a brisk take out business (due to the somewhat off location) . I never felt unsafe or anything but I can see why they get a lot of take out orders. A must try for anyone who likes a good sandwich. read more

Great Banh Mi & other snacks. The only reason for 4 stars is that the prices have gone up high & the sandwiches are smaller than when they were at their old location. I'm happy that they are in a better location with a nice menu sign & a little grocery space. I guess the consumer has to pay for their improvements. read more

Best Bahn Mi around, and the baby egg rolls are a MUST have! I always get the #4, BBQ Pork Sandwich, extra veggies, and no onions. Sooo good! Portions are on the small side, but for a sandwich with such high-quality/fresh ingredients for only $4.50 (tax included), I have no complaints! Only ever had AMAZING service here! Sometimes I even buy ramen and snacks from the small "store" section/shelves. Love this place - totally worth the near non-existent parking and dodgy area, lol! Lack of parking would be my only complaint, but that doesn't have any effect on the food, service, or my experiences here, so 5 stars from me! DEFINITELY give this hidden(ish) gen a try!! read more

Some of the best food comes out of the most unexpected places. Extremely hole-in-the-wall-y, pretty dirty, bad location, crackheads always lingering around the neighborhood. And I'm pretty sure the soul food place next door is a front. But I risk it all for their BBQ pork bahn mi and taro drank (or sometimes coconut juice). Everything is super cheap. Be sure to try the mini egg rolls, $2 worth is plenty. I always take it to go since theres not much seating and it can get hot and cramped in there read more

Checked this place out yesterday before work and you will miss driving the location unless you slightly look. I went here due to a co-worker recommending that they have good sandwiches. I got the #8 Pork Belly Sandwich with Sliced Pork Belly, Mayo, Carrots, Cucumber, Onions, Cilantro and Jalapenos and a nice cold Watermelon Blended Smoothie. I must say the pork belly is delicious and not too overly rubbery. Each menu item was very reasonably priced and cheap too so if you want a good sandwich stop by here. The four stars was based off the customer service, the quality of food and drinks and the prices. I didn't give it a full 5 stars because the size of the sandwiches are a little too small in comparison to most saigon sandwiches I've had. Although the size, is it a bit too small it's still good. I highly recommend you check this place out. read more

This place can be summed up in one word... Disappointment. Location is terrible. Inside is very cramped. Took 15minutes to get 3 sandwiches. Ordered 2 bbq chicken and 1 bbq pork. All disappointing in every aspect: size, taste, all were dry, barely any mayo, nothing bbq about any of them. Do yourself a favor and go some place else. 1 star for a decently clean bathroom. read more

Love this place. This has become my usual lunch time go-to place. The staff is very friendly and talkative. It's like going to a local barbershop. It is one of those hidden gems, hole-in-the-wall, type. The place has been kept clean lately. Depending on the time of day, you want to keep an eye out for the people that hang around outside. They do keep to themselves, but don't be a non-local good looking girl going to the store close to when the sun sets. There are alot of students that come in to buy stuff as well, so it's not 'dangerous' per se. The cops are all over the area, and I've seen them respond quickly to anything around there. Food: Awesome good tasting food. The beef and chicken sticks are to die for. Sandwiches #3 chicken and #5 Beef are the popular choices. read more

Most bang for your buck in Modesto! Great sandwiches and sides that make you want to order them all. Fresh bread, crisp veggies and unique meat make these sandwiches stand out! The prices are awesome and among the best in Modesto for quality vs price. I'd never ate a Vietnamese sandwich until 4 weeks ago and I think I've been there every week since. I grew up eating at Le Saigon. My favorite dishes to order are lao style papaya salad, rice porridge and the fresh spring rolls. I haven't ventured out much to order the other dishes on the menu. I don't need to. It's just one of those cafes that have all three of my favorite things. It's why I keep coming back. Just yummy comfort food! read more

The sandwiches were amazing. I really enjoyed the wonton soup. It has a different flavor than the Chinese one. I will definitely come back for the sandwiches and wonton soup, but I got a Boba tea, and I did not like it whatsoever. It had a weird taste to it. I am a huge fan of Boba tea, but this one I did not like. The customer service was great and friendly. Don't let the outside deter you. The inside is extremely clean. It's just a little rough n the outside, but I felt safe. I probably wouldn't go if it was dark though. read more

Cheap Vietnamese Sandwiches and Boba. The restaurant/convenience store is VERY SMALL, so don't expect to go here with a large group. I enjoyed my avocado boba, but didn't care for the whipped cream on top. My banh mi was very tasty. read more

History

Established in 1997.

Le had opened Saigon Sandwiches in 1997 after her father passed away with a partner in the West Side Plaza. Due to issues in the partnership, in 2003 Le moved a couple doors down and renamed her shop Le Saigon Sandwich. The shop itself was very small. It did not fit as Saigon continued to grow in customer base. She decided to take a break in the summer of 2014 to focus on building her new shop at 1645 W Orangeburg which opened on October 15th 2015.

This seating arrangement felt a bit awkward for a party of two, especially if you are sharing food. The booth is too big to be sitting close enough to reach but too small to not feel awkward. It is perfect for people watching though since the booths face the entire restaurant. By this time, the restaurant was completely packed, with just about every booth, table, and barstool occupied. Our waiter came quickly to take our drink orders. We got a Cucumber Martini and an Espresso Martini. The Cucumber Martini was incredibly light and refreshing. The Espresso Martini was not impressive. It didn't have a strong espresso flavor and was rather watery, but still alright. This is the type of restaurant, that especially on busy nights like this where they don't accept reservations, you should allocate a lot of time for the dinner service for. There is a significant time gap between each time the waiter comes around to take your order. There was probably 15-20 minutes between placing our drink, appetizer, and meal orders. This was not a problem for us, but if you are eating here before making a show at the Gallo Center, this may be something to consider. For our appetizer, we ordered the Salmon Ceviche. It was insanely good. It was subtly spicy and citrusy. The chips that came with it were light and not oily at all. I wish the portion was larger because the two of us swallowed it up in just a few bites. For our entree, we got the Salmon Tataki and Goodi Rolls to split. They were both very good and came out on a lovely platter. They tasted very fresh and high quality. The prices here are on the higher side but is nice for a special occasion or splurge. Our server was very attentive and checked on us often. He was super friendly too. The restaurant was super lively. They were playing club music which was totally a vibe. It looked like this was the spot people hit before going out for the night. I noticed they were accommodating for both small and large parties, serving both rather quickly. I'll be back!

We had ordered 2 four inch french dip sandwiches and 2 cups of soup and honestly they were terrible. There was only a sliver of roast beef on each sandwich and the soup was obviously from a can. Why it took so long to get our order to our table is beyond me, but it was a very disappointing experience. The food was subpar and the bill was $43 which is way too much for what we got. Never again!

This place is disgusting! The first five times I came here I was hooked!!! Keep in mind this was about 3 years ago. The staff that currently works here is just as bad as all the crackheads that hangout outside this business. It looks like they hire bums ( literally) to cook the chicken outside and to do the dirty work. The cashier used to be the friendly owners daughter but is now a new chick who handles money all day and then helps out making sandwiches when the line is long ( without washing hands). If you look closely, the grandma chills in the back eating and picking at the food while she prepares it. Talk about "special sauce"! Nobody's hair is tied back and all the employees talk on and all over the food. If you go onto the county website for businesses and food compliance- this place has been fined a million times. This place is filthy and its sad cuz they sandwiches are soooooo good, but when you look at all the filthy hands that touch and make the food it will make you want to run out of this place asap. Foods okay here. Nothing to bring an out of town friend to. Just your typical saigon spot. The customer service is pretty terrible. I would definitely order to go to avoid the guilt gazes shooting from the owner not to get the tables too dirty. Lots of homeless people out front as well. Like I said, decent food.
