I am not sure if I went on a bad day or something but my last visit wasn't the best. Service is very unfriendly. I walked in and no acknowledgment whatsoever. Heck, not even a simple hi. It was more of a "hurry tfu and order already". I ordered. Prices are now 2 dollars for 5 baby egg rolls. As I waited for my food, I literally saw all the staff gathered together in a circle and talked or gossip. Mind you, it was only 3, but like, who is working on my food? Finally after 20 minutes for two sandwiches and baby egg rolls, my order is ready. My partner asked for Sriracha sauce and the girl at the counter said "it's right there you can just grab it" idk, to me, it came off rude. I totally get the hating your job portion but at least fake it till ya make it lol The food was ok. The sandwich tasted fine but I wish it were a little more hot. Maybe my drive home is what cooled it down, but aww man, definitely room in improvement for service.

Amazing food, great prices. Thai tea was sooo good. Fast service and friendly staff. Definitely would come back.

I didn't expect to find the best Banh Mi I'd ever had to be in Modesto. But Le Saigon is legit. I asked the girl working what was her favorite sandwich and followed her order to get the Pork belly sandwich and BBQ beef sandwich. The pork belly sandwich by far is the tastiest banh Mi I'd ever had, the fatty pork belly and sweet/savory sauce that was mayo based mixed with pickled pickled veggies and crispy baguette is a mighty fine combo. I had to wait a bit for the sandwich to be made but it was worth it. The store also doubles selling Asian food and condiments but the ambiance reminds me of sitting in a restaurant in Asia with a few seats to the side. I don't know when I'll come back to Modesto but I look forward to eating this Banh Mi again.

What a cute, no-frills place to get banh mi in Modesto! My husband and I were in the area for my dog's annual and we didn't want to sit down at a restaurant. It was a hot day and banh mi sounded like a great idea. Le Saigon caught my eye. I noticed some of the mixed reviews but generally the banh mi seemed promising. The exterior of the shop is pretty ghetto. It's next to a gas station and a liquor store. Then again, it's Modesto. If you blink you'll drive right by. There's some unmarked parking in the back and only one disability spot in the front. The interior of the shop is teeny. There's a small area to sit if you wish, but the majority of people get their food to go. The AC was blasting when I went in, so it was comfortable. Le Saigon also offers some vermicelli bowls as well as spring rolls, and even various soups. Catering and party trays are available. I went for the cold cut combo banh mi for myself and the pork belly banh mi for my husband. I also ordered some baby egg rolls. For $2 per order that price is hard to beat! I also got a Thai tea w/ boba for myself, but they have plenty of other options if you want something else to drink. My order was ready in less than 10 minutes. I was watching the staff prepare various orders while I waited. They looked pretty efficient and seemed to have a system down. We drove off to find a shaded spot to enjoy our banh mi and baby egg rolls at, and I couldn't wait to dig in. Someone said that the banh mi was too small for their liking. I strongly disagree. It was the perfect size for lunch and also filled with pickled veggies. I was very happy with the ratio of meat to veggies, and while the bread was not crunchy, I don't have an issue with it. It still tasted fresh. The baby egg rolls were so addicting, haha. We actually went back to order more to take home for dinner later, they were so crispy and paired so well with the sweet chili sauce. Next time I want to order the Vietnamese egg rolls. I can only imagine how good those are if the baby egg rolls were delicious already. I enjoyed the Thai tea, and they even used the ice that I like. The boba was decent, it was a bit too soft and chewy, but I'm not going to complain much about free boba anyway. The 16 oz was perfect for me, but if I wanted more Thai tea, next time I'd definitely get the 24 oz since it's only $1 more. I'd definitely recommend supporting Le Saigon for your banh mi fix! It's rare enough to find good Asian food in the Central Valley, let alone banh mi. The next time I'm in the area (which isn't often), I would love to try some other items!

I thought the banh mi was okay. The bread was super fresh, but a bit hard to eat. The pork was pretty fatty. Service was okay. The space itself is not particularly inviting; I would not want to sit and eat a meal there. For that reason, I don't think I would return.

Im not a review guy but the service here is terrible. The young skinny lady at the counter did not greet us or welcome us once we were ready to order at the counter . Red flag #2 they took 20 minutes to make 2 sandwitches . Red flag#3 the bread was stail the meat on both sandwitches cold like out the fridge type maybe microwaved very lightly. Red flag #4 my stomach hurt after consuming 2 bites off . I have had very delicouse bhan mi sandwitches in other establishments and food is prepared with love it shows . i dont recomend this place for bhan mi sandwitches.

Sandwich's are so full with great quality meat, packed and filled with the perfect ingredients they definitely aren't skimping here !! 10/10 best bahn mi sandwich I've ever had !! , the sweetest woman in the front helped me as a first timer , she was the best and I am very happy with the such great quality and kindness !

Baby Egg Rolls .. you're seeing the bottom of the bag that ripped open from the broth.

Ordered through door dash and half my broth was gone. I got Udon soup and baby egg rolls. The broth that spilled out of the soup soaked the egg rolls bag which caused the bag to rip on the bottom and all my egg rolls fell out when I was removing them from the plastic bag except the one I ate straight from the bag. Udon soup was missing fried garlic and the broth was very very bland. It seems like it was supposed Khao piek sen which is like a Lao chicken noodle soup. Idk if that's what they're trying to go for but it could be improved. Egg rolls tasted like ground chicken and pepper. Tasted like McDonald's chicken nuggets honestly. This place has really gone downhill over the past few years. It's a shame because it used to be one of my top 3 spots to go for Asian food.

I enjoyed my food here. Was it the best banh mi I've ever had? No. But was it one of the best inexpensive meals I've ever had? Absolutely! I got a BBQ pork sandwich, 5 mini egg rolls with sauce, a drink, and a pack of candy for $7. I thought the guy had missed something, but no - it's that inexpensive, which is so great given the place's proximity to Modesto Junior College. I will definitely come back here, and the place seemed very popular during the time I was at my table. It's a little sketchy looking from the outside, but it's worth going in read more

Great banh mi sandwiches. They've got a pretty large menu to pick from and the prices are low. I haven't had anything yet that I didn't like. Has very limited seating during lunch hour. They've got shelves on the other side with candies and other things from Vietnam, Thailand...etc. You can get totally stuffed for under $10. Highly recommend the bbq chicken banh mi and wonton soup. Went again today and must add something. I've been there probably 15+ times in the last 2 months and the same woman is always in the back making food. Every time I look she's chewing. She literally feeding herself food as she makes other people's food... gross. read more

Good prices. Terrible service. Ordered tray of 40 egg rolls. I figured it would take a while so I ordered a sandwich and drink for while I wait. I asked for the drink and sandwich to be ready separately but they insisted that the entire order would be ready quickly. Over 40 minutes later I'm still waiting for my sandwich and drink. I've inquired several times but the continue to insist that I have to wait for the egg rolls. wTF? Would have never ordered sandwich if it was going to take over 40min. read more

I love this place! First of all, I like how they sell their food in smaller portions, so you get to try a little bit of everything. I've had bbq chicken sandwich, pork belly sandwich(too fatty for me), baby egg rolls (their egg roll sauce is the best!), butterfly shrimps and like them all. Their sticky rice is cooked to perfection (so nice and soft). I like to get a side of that for only a dollar. Can't wait to go back! read more

Pros: 1. one of the best boba smoothies I've ever had in the Central Valley. Not far from highway 99, so this will be a spot to stop by for a refreshing smoothie. ($6 for a large) 2. Fried bread was airy and perfectly fried. ($2 each) Cons: 1. worst fried banana ever. Didn't even look like a fried banana! It was 4-6" long! Was it frozen before it got fried? The inside was goey and grayish purple. Ordered 3 and it went straight into the garbage. ($2 each) 2. Papaya salad also went into the garbage. Absolutely no flavor and was definitely not Laos style . I specifically asked if it's made with padek (Laos style) and cook in the back said yes. It was the perfect amount of spice but no flavor at all. It came out looking light red because of the smashed tomatoes. I don't even think they added anything besides salt. No Padek, no lime, no sugar, no fish sauce.. etc. ($7 each) 3. Cashier really needs to taste test all food on the menu in order to answer customers questions. She really had no clue what kind of papaya they serve, how many fried bread and banana comes in an order, what's inside the potstickers.. etc. 4. Inside is really humid, hot, and not very clean. Also ordered 6 #1 sandwich. It was edible. Would I buy again, NO. I didn't care for it. It just did not taste like an authentic bahn mi sandwich. ($5.50 each) read more

Been here today and never returning. This place is not "traditional". In fact we purchased #1, #4, and #10. And by far it has been the worst we have ever tasted. We weren't sure why there are so many good reviews! We were mind blown for horrible reasons. BBQ pork had so much fat as soon as you bite into this so called "banh mi" bread all the pork comes out because it is so difficult to bite into the fatty pork. It was all fat.... The texture was all wrong. Definitely not appetizing at all. I have never tasted anything like this... will never return. read more

i'm guessing this was an old quiznos, based on the basket they serve the sammiches in (and the big "Q" on the old quiznos trashcan). the food beats quiznos, though. co-worker got the pork banh mi. crispy, crusty, chewy baguette, and i'm assuming the insides were good. well, not assuming; i ate the le saigon salad (which is basically the insides of a banh mi but more, amirite?), and it was delicious. fresh, crisp veggies, succulent meat (got me the pork), and the sauces/dressings are on the side so you can decide how much you want to put on. oh, and the staff are friendly! this place will definitely stay on my traveling lunchtime list. read more

Le Saigon is tucked in the armpit of the college area. If you can manage the parking , tweekers, and flimflam you will be pleasantly surprised. Bread and pickled veggies made in house. Amazing smoothies and boba tea. Reasonable pricing. The place is a little scattered but screw it, it's their business and I don't eat on location to care enough. Advise checking your larger orders for accuracy. All in all for the price and area you can't beat it. read more

TODAY WAS MAGICAL!!! 5 stars aren't enough! I ordered the #8 pork belly sand which, and let me tell you! You take a bite and it's the most amazing combination ever!!!! The veggies are fresh! They are crunchy and the meat is packed with flavor! Bye bye Subway! Hello Le Saigon. You won my sandwhich heart I will be back!!!!!! Great little sandwich shop in Modesto. Parking can be a challenge so if you see a spot grab it. It's combined with a market so you can grab plenty of sides if you want. The barbecue pork bahn mi was great, and the spring rolls were pretty tasty too. Not much indoor seating so if your looking for a spot you Amy be out of luck. read more

This place serves delicious Vietnamese sandwiches. Despite the shop being a small place with only a few tables to dine in their food is very good. Prices are very reasonable although they do charge extra if you use a credit card. read more

It all depends on what time you go. I believe the earlier the better. I've been a few time in the later afternoon it was so so. But today is Friday and I went around 11:30 and let me tell you, my oRder was perfect! It was so fresh. I ordered mini egg rolls and they were so crispy and yummy, the bread on my sandwich was fresh and soft even though it was toasted, it was all flakey and just perfect. And my chicken on a stick kept me going for more, couldn't put it down. It was a perfect trip! So good read more

What a neighborhood gem. It's cute inside. The Vietnamese sandwiches are more Americanized that what I am used to but still awesome. Wish they A couple of traditional types. But, there is a little market, wide variety of drinks, salads, appetizers. Little eating area. They take cash and cards . Parking can be challenging but worth it. Really really nice staff! read more

Freshly prepared, high quality grubn prepared with love. Did I mention that the prices are super reasonable? I have not made it through the menu yet but everything so far has been amazing and well priced. We tried the mini and large egg rolls, the gigantic spring rolls, and the BBQ pork Banh Mi.... oh yeah... and the passion fruit boba. Our order was taken by the owner and I believe her god daughter was cooking. I got the feeling that the owner and her family are the primary employees. read more

I came here because I was craving a Vietnamese Sandwich and this has been on my to try list for a while. I thought the vietnamese sandwich was okay. I don't think it was anything amazing and not horrible. I ordered the combo #1 which had a variety of cold cut meats I told them no mayo or head cheese, it also comes with daikon, carrots, cilantro and jalapenos. I do like how there are a variety of other items you can buy on top of the Vietnamese sandwiches. I do think that if you have a banh mi craving this is the place to go if you are in the Modesto area and you can't get to Sacramento or the bay area. I do think the service was pretty good and the sandwich itself is not expensive, I think the #1 banh i was $3.50 which is a good deal. I think I will try their papaya salad next time I am there and try some of the other smaller items on their snack list. read more

As a kid my family and I would go to the original location in West Modesto and have since been a customer. We have grown to love almost everything on the menu!! Chicken and pork sandwiches are our favorites and I also recommend the iced coffee! Even my children have favorites items on the menu, for the most part they love the BBQ chicken and rice plate and they love what they call baby egg rolls :) watermelon with pearl is on the favorites and must have when my kids order. Very satisfying and tasty!! read more

History

Established in 1997.

Le had opened Saigon Sandwiches in 1997 after her father passed away with a partner in the West Side Plaza. Due to issues in the partnership, in 2003 Le moved a couple doors down and renamed her shop Le Saigon Sandwich. The shop itself was very small. It did not fit as Saigon continued to grow in customer base. She decided to take a break in the summer of 2014 to focus on building her new shop at 1645 W Orangeburg which opened on October 15th 2015.

The staff were friendly and quick to check me out. I do appreciate that there is 15 minute pick-up parking directly in front of the door. Can't wait to go back!

He also had a Hazy and they had many options, I had the smoked mango and regular margarita which were great! We also had the tiramisu for our anniversary dessert and it was very nice of the restaurant to have it on the house. The waitress was very friendly and speedy. We can't wait to come back and try other foods.

The soft boiled eggs looked like they had been made several hours prior, maybe even a day prior. I'm neutral to the noodles. It looks like they used Tokyo style noodles, which is fine, but I find the Hakata style is better in my opinion. I also ordered Karaage. I was hoping it would have been handmade, it seems to have been premade. It was ok, the dipping sauce was good though. Overall, the ramen would fall into the mediocre Japanese ramen range. So while it's not bad, I would have expected better food for paying over $30.

Despite this long wait, there were actually quite a few empty tables, but was overall still very busy. When you put yourself on the waitlist, they notify you through text when your table is ready. This gave us ample time to walk around Downtown while we waited. When we received the table-ready text (just short of an hour later), we were sat quickly in a nice U-shaped booth. This seating arrangement felt a bit awkward for a party of two, especially if you are sharing food. The booth is too big to be sitting close enough to reach but too small to not feel awkward. It is perfect for people watching though since the booths face the entire restaurant. By this time, the restaurant was completely packed, with just about every booth, table, and barstool occupied. Our waiter came quickly to take our drink orders. We got a Cucumber Martini and an Espresso Martini. The Cucumber Martini was incredibly light and refreshing. The Espresso Martini was not impressive. It didn't have a strong espresso flavor and was rather watery, but still alright. This is the type of restaurant, that especially on busy nights like this where they don't accept reservations, you should allocate a lot of time for the dinner service for. There is a significant time gap between each time the waiter comes around to take your order. There was probably 15-20 minutes between placing our drink, appetizer, and meal orders. This was not a problem for us, but if you are eating here before making a show at the Gallo Center, this may be something to consider. For our appetizer, we ordered the Salmon Ceviche. It was insanely good. It was subtly spicy and citrusy. The chips that came with it were light and not oily at all. I wish the portion was larger because the two of us swallowed it up in just a few bites. For our entree, we got the Salmon Tataki and Goodi Rolls to split. They were both very good and came out on a lovely platter. They tasted very fresh and high quality. The prices here are on the higher side but is nice for a special occasion or splurge. Our server was very attentive and checked on us often. He was super friendly too. The restaurant was super lively. They were playing club music which was totally a vibe. It looked like this was the spot people hit before going out for the night. I noticed they were accommodating for both small and large parties, serving both rather quickly. I'll be back!

I finally asked one employee when we would get our order and they then started to work on them and finally brought them to our table. We had ordered 2 four inch french dip sandwiches and 2 cups of soup and honestly they were terrible. There was only a sliver of roast beef on each sandwich and the soup was obviously from a can. Why it took so long to get our order to our table is beyond me, but it was a very disappointing experience. The food was subpar and the bill was $43 which is way too much for what we got. Never again!

This place is disgusting! The first five times I came here I was hooked!!! Keep in mind this was about 3 years ago. The staff that currently works here is just as bad as all the crackheads that hangout outside this business. It looks like they hire bums ( literally) to cook the chicken outside and to do the dirty work. The cashier used to be the friendly owners daughter but is now a new chick who handles money all day and then helps out making sandwiches when the line is long ( without washing hands). If you look closely, the grandma chills in the back eating and picking at the food while she prepares it. Talk about "special sauce"! Nobody's hair is tied back and all the employees talk on and all over the food. If you go onto the county website for businesses and food compliance- this place has been fined a million times. This place is filthy and its sad cuz they sandwiches are soooooo good, but when you look at all the filthy hands that touch and make the food it will make you want to run out of this place asap. Foods okay here. Nothing to bring an out of town friend to. Just your typical saigon spot. The customer service is pretty terrible. I would definitely order to go to avoid the guilt gazes shooting from the owner not to get the tables too dirty. Lots of homeless people out front as well. Like I said, decent food. Just order and keep going on with your day. read more
