We dined here last night upon a recommendation from my wife's boss. This was a great little spot. Small dining area downstairs with a little spiral staircase leading up to 2 more small dining rooms. The staff was all very friendly and inviting and were happy to recommend their favorite dishes to us. My wife ordered a French onion soup and one of their famously large salads, which are served in these big bowls. I decided to try the chef's special, which was a beef tenderloin a la rossini (truffle sauce and foie gras). I'm not typically a foie gras fan, but I figured since we're in Paris that I'd give it a shot. I'm very glad I did because it was absolutely delicious. The steak melded perfectly with the truffle sauce and fois gras. This was all served with potatoes au gratin, and blanched green beans. Everything was perfect. I also ordered two large beers. A Grimbergin blonde and a Kronenbourg ale. I love how both beers were served in their respective brand's glasses. Such a nice touch. For dessert, we ordered an Apple Tarte Tartin, upon a recommendation from one of the staff. It was light, sweet, and served with some ice cream and créme fraîce. On our last night in Paris, we had dinner at Le Relais Gascon, which was a short walk from our hotel. I admit, I'm not very adventurous with food and don't care for traditional French food, so I had the grilled salmon, which was delicious. My husband, who does enjoy traditional French food, had the cassoulet with beans, sausage, and duck confit. He absolutely LOVED his meal and said it was probably the best meal he had while in Paris. Big disappointment this one. I bookmarked it based on all the positive reviews. Apparently I was supposed to order the big cheap salad with potatoes. It wasn't on the menu. For New Year's Eve they offered a special menu, 79 € per person. The host outside who convinced us to splurge for the special occasion said our kiddo wouldn't pay full price. Spoiler: that's not how it went. We were seated in back by the restrooms, with the sound of the hand-dryer serenading our meal. From what I could tell, apart from the staff, there wasn't a single French-speaking person in the whole place, a bad sign. For appetizers we had the escargots, which could have benefited from more garlic and butter, the foie gras, which was fine, and the smoked salmon, which was a generous portion, and very smokey. For my main, I ordered the duck in honey sauce, which would have been a good plate, served with salad, but for some reason they plated it with cold vegetables: green beans, bell pepper, and eggplant under congealing butter--Tasted like it was made ahead of time and they forgot to reheat it out of the fridge before scooping onto my plate. Total fail. My kiddo got the knuckle of lamb, which was fatty and gristly, although the mashed potatoes underneath were delicious, and my wife chose the fettuccine with shrimp and scallops, which were both overcooked and the scallops were crunchy, which was weird, served over way too much plain noodles. The desserts were good, but we paid over 240 € for three, with only one drink each, making it both the most expensive and also least delicious meal of our trip so far. Staff were friendly and attentive, and all addressed us in English, even though I'm fluent in French, which makes sense for a tourist trap. I visited Le Relais Gascon in Montmartre on a Rick Steves' recommendation, and it hit the spot! We almost walked by the unpretentious exterior, but we appreciated that the restaurant didn't feel overly touristy (given its location on Rue des Abbesses). The menu features French classics like steak and hearty soups, but the salmon salad caught my eye. Although I wouldn't typically order a salad as my main course, I'm glad I took the chance because this turned out to be one of the best salads I've ever tasted. The greens were fresh and topped with creamy dressing and an abundance of smoked salmon, olives, tomatoes, and crispy garlic potato slices. Those crispy potato slices took this salad to the next level - they were a cross between crispy garlic fries and potato chips. The salad was massive and could easily feed two, although I enjoyed it so much that I nearly finished it myself. Located in a cute street area. Be prepare to walk up a steep street. Our tour guide made reservation for a party of 16. We got seated upstairs in a tight cramped room by the restroom. There was barely any air circulation. Good selection of items on the menu. I ordered the escargot and beef bourguignon. The escargot was good! Lots of herbs and butter which is how I like my escargot prepared. Soon after my beef bourguignon came out. It looked like a deconstructed beef and pasta dish. The noodles looked like tagliatelle. I didn't think it was possible to get a bad meal in Paris but the folks at Le Relais Gascon succeeded! Experience would have been hilarious if my wife wasn't so annoyed. People were nice but clearly had little to no experience with cooking or bartending. Wife asked for a very martini & she received gin & ice in a tall glass that was half full! The waitress had limited English skills (okay since this is Paris). I went to the bartender to explain directly what my wife wanted & he proceeded to try to make the exact same cocktail! I stopped him and told him how. He gave me the distinct impression he never had a drink in his life. On to the food: My meal. What do you get when you mix a can of vegetarian beans, an American hot dog & a wing from an anorexic chicken? Their version of a cassoulet!! My wife ordered lamb that tasted like fatty beef. Tough to tell as it was drowning in a jar of Heinz-like gravy. The potatoes were good but cold. I honestly don't understand how this place got so many good reviews. I forget how I found this restaurant, but we were looking for a place to have dinner in Montmarte. The owner is a big personality, kidding around with customers and passersby. The restaurant is great for people watching. Try to snag one of the tight outdoor tables. There are some tables indoors and more on the second floor, up a vertiginous flight of stairs. The staff were very nice. The house wine is cheap and refreshing. There's a great deal with three courses for 32.5 euros, with a up charge of another 4.50 for the most expensive dish on the menu. That's what I ordered. I started off with a good piece of pate, served with excellent bread, that was happily replenished. I had the aforementioned steak Rossini. It was good. My wife ordered another steak dish that she was plus minus about. There were a lot of other good looking dishes served. The mood was convivial. I had a really generous cheese plate for dessert. We had arrived in Paris and everyone was starving after checking into our Airbnb and walking around to sightsee for a bit. We just happened to end up here and asked if they were able to serve us anything that would be gluten free as two of us are intolerant. They were extremely knowledgeable about GF so we felt comfortable placing an order. We all got the filet de boeuf facon rossini, which was tender and cooked to perfection, and the two of us with gluten intolerances had green beans as a side (the potatoes gratin were not GF) which complemented the steak beautifully. My husband, who isn't gluten free, got the side of tartiflette (potatoes with bacon and cheese) which he said was amazing. Our server was absolutely amazing even with the language barrier and didn't make us feel like we were causing him extra work even with all the questions. For my main course, I got the smoked salmon salad and like other yelpers mentioned, it was huge and came with potatoes on top! It was also loaded with smoked salmon and I got a huge chunk in each bite. They definitely didn't skimp out! My friend also got the duck confit which was super juicy, tender and flavorful. This restaurant was recommended by a friend of a friend who ate here when he was visiting Paris. Apparently they make amazing salads. So the hubby and I took two long subway rides and walked, and walked, and walked until we stumbled upon this restaurant. The trip here was quiet the journey, so we were both happy when we found the restaurant, and got a table for two inside, seated near the kitchen and stairway to the upstairs dinning area and bathroom. Our waiter spoke English so there were no problems ordering. I got the salad with tuna and egg, and the hubby got one with smoked salmon. Salads arrived soon after with a basket of bread. The first couple of bites were OK, but then I just got turned off by the taste of thick, garlic sauce on lettuce. I am a garlic freak, and usually love food like this, but something was just totally off. The egg and garlic sauce together made me want to throw up, especially because the egg had a grey ring around it. I ate half the salad and was done with it. The service was a HUGE turnoff. I had to watch the waiters act a fool, burp before bringing drink orders to tables, and huddle at the bar laughing like idiots. Strictly unprofessional, and hard to take seriously when our waiter tried to tend to our table. Reading some of the past reviews from this place, I would not be surprised if they serve dropped bread to other tables. Since days and nights can change, and there are some great waiters and horrible waiters, I am sure some have had a great experience here. I for one, thought this was the worst restaurant I have visited in Paris thus far. If you really want to check this place out, just order the fried potato's with garlic sauce, and skip the salads and meals all together. You got potatoes on my salad! You got salad on my potatoes! You're both right! It's the strange sounding combination that tastes perfect together. (However, in my experience it's not for everyone. I LOVED it. My husband not so much.) Potatoes atop salad sounded iffy in theory but in reality was oh so perfect. I couldn't gobble up my Salad Oceane fast enough. (The lettuce was topped with smoked salmon, avocado, tomatoes, apple, bay shrimp - I could have passed on that - and black olives, and perfectly dressed.) My husband had the same but I guess potatoes on top didn't do it for him. He was unimpressed and said he'd only give this place three stars. I was flabbergasted. It was SO DELICIOUS. In fact, I'd declare it my best meal in Paris. However, the atmosphere was far from perfect. While we did get a table right away (On a Friday night! In Montmartre! On the day of Bastille Day fireworks!), we shared a small hot room upstairs with a large very loud group. It was unbearable for some of my family. My kids shared the tartiflette - a pile of potatoes, bacon, and melted cheese. Basically French nachos. The owner was super nice and told me he knew the perfect place for us to watch fireworks with an unobstructed view of the Eiffel Tower AND be a place where the kids could see - the seventh floor of the Hotel Terrasse. Apparently the restaurant owner goes there often, and gave us his card so we could show it to them at the hotel if they told us to leave. We loved the salad here! Gigantic bowls full of romaine lettuce, lightly dressed, topped with your choice of egg, ham, olives, and of course- thin, crispy slices of garlicky potatoes. I got the salad with a lot of meat- fried egg, and ham and parma ham. I didn't eat any of the parma ham (it was too much) and you have to dig into the salad to actually get to the lettuce, but the potatoes are really good~ My husband really liked his steak with Roquefort sauce. We had lunch at Le Relais Gascon after visiting Sacré Cœur, which is only a 10-minute walk. We noticed a few businessmen, construction workers, and even lone diners who seemed to be on their lunch break, considering it was a weekday. It became quite busy around 12:30 PM. Le Relais Gascon came up while I was searching for a restaurant in the Montmartre area and we're glad I found it. It is very easy to locate, and it is actually right beside the Abbesses Metro station. We started with an onion soup and escargots. My boyfriend is the one who loves onion soup and he thought their onion soup was just 'okay'. It was his first time trying escargots. He liked it, and so did I. They did use a lot of butter, but I thought it made it very tasty. For our mains, we opted for the beef bourguignon and chose the omelette to lighten up our meal since everything else was fairly heavy. The beef stew was very good; the beef was juicy and tender, and the sauce was not too salty. The only thing was the pasta was overcooked. The omelette was nothing special, but the garlic fried potato thins were amazing! The portions were big (reminded me of American portions), especially the salads we saw coming out of the kitchen. You definitely get what you pay for here, and that's a good thing when you are in Paris. The service was friendly, tourist-friendly in particular (considering there is English on their menu as well), and the environment is quite comfy and casual. WONDERFUL. I wish I discovered Le Relais Gascon earlier since I lived SO CLOSE, but it's too late. :'( I made up for it by going twice in one day. A Parisian friend took me here and was surprised that I hadn't heard of it. I really, really wish I did: continuous service AND closing at 2am? Wow. On her recommendation, I had one of the giant salads ... and I was stunned by the amount of food they poured onto my bowl. I could only finish 1/4 of it because the potatoes were just too tempting (and very, very filling). I got the one with duck and foie gras, but I actually don't like foie gras. Ooops. :x She ordered the pâté (only 7€), which was large and generous and waayy too delicious. We didn't finish it. It was so good. I ordered it for my dinner that night, but I didn't finish it even as my main meal. My brother ordered the magret de canard with honey, and it was AMAZING. So, so good. Mmmmmm. :) I sat inside during lunch and on the terrace for dinner. Both are great. =) No complaints at all about Le Relais Gascon; they're brisk and very French and great. If you're ever wandering around hungry in Montmartre - this is your place. Visiting from Arizona, we had no clue where to eat and we were lucky enough to stumble across this little gem. I will never forget the taste of the onion soup - perfectly seasoned broth, the best quality gruyere and big croutons to soak it all up. I also ordered salmon with pasta but, by the time it came, I was very full from the soup and delicious bread. The meal was affordable and the service was excellent - They were quite patient with us even though we didn't speak a lick of French. You won't find anything like it in the states. On a recent trip to Paris, my lovely wife and I planned to visit Montmarte and visit Sacre-Coeur and the Dali Exhibition. But after climbing the tower at Notre Dame and not taking the elevator at the Abbesses metro, our legs just wanted a place to rest without further vertical challenges. Thanks to Les Yelpers, we sought out Le Relais Gascon, a short walk away from the Metro. With the light from the sun streaming through the open front on a beautiful Parisian autumn afternoon, we were quickly seated and ordered refreshing Gin Tonic and Cuba Libre. We each decided on one of the giant salads that a lot of the patrons seemed to be enjoying, Salade du Chef (with chicken breast) for my wife and Salade LÓceane (shrimp and smoked salmon) for me. Each was brimming from the salad bowls, but the star of the salad was the thinly sliced garlic potatoes layered on top. Mon Dieu! Delicious on their own but when mixed in with the rest of the salad ingredients, heavenly to the last forkful. Our next stop, a walk South to the Galleries Lafayette and the Champs-Élysées, but renewed, refueled and refreshed by the wonderful food and friendly staff at Le Relais Gascon. read more

We actually shared this meal with a glorious bottle of Medal winning red between three people and it was just the right amount because the servings are so big. This was worth the search as I found this in my tour book by Lonely planet. Totally worth it and the walk through Montemarte is enough to build up your appetite. Service was fast....very cozy restaurant so do be surprised to be right next to the next table- but in France, this is very normal. Le Relais Gascon was my first meal in Paris and one of my favorites! The portion sizes are huge so I would recommend ordering one less dish than you normally would. My family shared a salad, onion soup, duck confit and boeuf bourguignon. The onion soup was amazing and one of the best onion soups I've ever had. The salad was very filling and was topped off with delicious sliced potatoes instead of the normal croutons. The duck confit was delicious as well and came with even more sliced potatoes. The boeuf bourguignon was the least tasty of the three dishes because it wasn't as flavorful but it was still enjoyable. They don't accept credit cards which came as a shock to my family but thankfully we had cash. read more

Visit from September 2014 Located in Montmarte, this place has tons of seating, upstairs, downstairs, outside. We sat outside and endured smoke, but that's Paris. I ordered mom their prix fixe with an app (shrimp/avocado), entree (entrocote/steak), and dessert (chocolate mousse) and myself the salad du bearnaise with added chicken. Mom said meat was a bit chewy but good nonetheless. She raved about the potatoes Salade du bearnais - came with bacon and bread topped with slices of goat cheese... I also added a chicken breast. It came topped with their lovely garlic fried potatoes. Digging my way around the salad - they certainly did not skimp on the bacon. Anywhere I've gone in the states will give you maybe two slices of bacon... I think this place must've given me half a pound!! I don't know what kind of dressing it was but probably some sort of ranch dressing. The chicken was a lot too underneath the mountain of bacon and potatoes. I would estimate this dish with the added chicken breast to have about 60g+ of protein to give you an idea. Gosh, I'm dreaming about this salad and those potatoes!!! I followed Lonely Planet's recommendation for a nice and reasonable meal and visited this lovely gem. Ordered one of their signature salads and have never been more glad to eat greens in my whole life, for the whole trip we had eat a lot of affordable fast food, so it was a nice change. The huge salads will leave you more than satisfied and there is a whole menu just dedicated to this speciality. The waitress was surprisingly kind but the host that sat us down laughed at our face as we didn't understand his directions in French to find our table upstairs.
