It was bound to rain during our holiday in Paris. It was quite a cloudburst, so our readymade back-up was to walk through some of the fabled covered shopping passages. One was Passage Jouffroy, and at the Bd Montmartre entrance was this busy brasserie. Soaked from the rain with soggy umbrellas, Jamie W and I sat well covered at the edge of the interior space looking out at all the passing wet Parisians. We were definitely ready for lunch. We both started with the 9,0€ Gratinated French Onion Soup, an appropriately comfortable rainy-day choice especially with the thick glob of melted Gruyere on top (Photo 9). They hit the spot. We both ordered salads for our entrees, and they were huge. Jamie had the 15,0€ Nicoise with plenty of tuna, a hard-boiled egg, lettuce, tomato, green beans, peppers, cucumber slices, anchovy fillets, olives, and unusually, basmati rice (Photo 8). I went for the heartier 15,5€ Rocheburne with smoked duck breast, country ham, honey-dipped goat cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and croutons (Photo 7). It was quite a meal, and we weren't in a hurry since the rain was coming down hard. The place was filling up quickly, and our veteran server was handling all the tables without assistance. He didn't seem to mind, but some of the customers were getting feisty. We just paid at the bar to avoid burdening him. DO NOT EAT HERE.... (ZERO STARS) CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE It was about 31 degrees out. Restaurant was practically empty inside and out. We were a party of 7 and asked to sit inside to eat. We arrived at 11:30am. Two individuals in our group were senior citizens and disabled. Despite the restaurant being empty they didn't allow us to choose where to sit. They stuffed us in the tightest spot possible which was extremely difficult for our disabled companions to sit at. Upon asking to order breakfast we were told it was no longer available and only lunch menu was available. NOTHING looked appetizing but since we were all sitting down we were all planning to order the basic fish and chips. So we were going to order 6 dishes plus drinks. One elderly disabled individual wasn't hungry so they were just going to order drinks. Well the waitress said it was mandatory for every person in our group to order food otherwise our group needed to sit outside. Again restaurant is empty and it's roughly about 31 degrees outside. They don't have heaters or blankets outside. But the waitress rudely insisted that the 79 year old disabled person sit outside if she isn't going to eat. And despite the intentions of everyone else ordering food the waitress did NOT care. She was insistent it was MANDATORY that every person order food or must sit outside. She was extremely rude. Seems like she must be the owner. The older man that is also there is also extremely RUDE. Some times the cafe is busy but not because the food is good. They are busy because of Musee Grevin. Musee Grevin has long lines. As a result customers that are desperate to eat anywhere just go to this cafe because its the closest. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE DON'T eat here! read more

Super super busy at times, and it may take a while for them to take your order. However, when they do take your order, it might appear so fast do you think they read your mind. One unusual thing is that they have several different tartares incl one with salmon. I had the Beef Tartare Auvergnat and it was really good. It uses the finest beef tenderloin with not a speck of white gristly /fascia stuff, and the shaved Parmesan on top provided the salt. It was truly excellent. My wife had a Salad Bahamas which came with a generous portion of salad shrimp, tangy grapefruit and avocado. The shrimp is dressed w/ slightly spicy mayo but I thought the standard salad dressing was good. My wife got it undressed with oil and vinegar on the side. As with all Paris cafés, despite being really busy, they do not try to chase you out. You can leave on your own schedule. If you want to get out a little sooner, you can walk up to the bar and just pay there. We were there at midday, but I was pleased to see they have some eggy breakfast items there as well. read more

The cafe looked promising... but the Hard Rock Cafe sign next door loomed hard and should have been a signifier of a tourist trap. I took a seat outside ready to watch the world go by. I got plenty of watching before a waiter finally approached. (Like a good half an hour of waiting... but in Paris you don't rush and there is always great people watching) Famished but not wanting to eat a big meal before my friend arrived, I ordered a glass of wine and an onion soup. A steaming bowl of soup came out... anticipating the deliciousness... I took a sip and it was the saltiest blandest onion soup I have ever had... bad food in Paris? Really??? Starved as I was I tried to take a few bites when I noticed a brown sesame seed shaped thing floating in my soup... maybe a piece of thyme or such... nope... it squished... I could only think of rodent poop??? I don't know... but.... Eek! Never again. read more

The food was disgusting. The service was absolutely awful and they are rude. The place was filthy.

This restaurant is one I almost skipped because of mixed Yelp reviews, but I'm so glad we tried it. We are dedicated foodies, true francophiles, and LOVE French food. I've spent months in the city and dated so many places, and this is a great! A very solid offering of brasserie-type favorites. We had the fish and chips, which my young adult daughter declared "legit," croque monsieur and madame sandwiches, enjoyed by everyone 15 to 70 something, and duck confit - which I have to tell you, was better than the duck confit I had tried just the night before at the specialty duck restaurant just across the street in the Passage. I would DEFINITELY eat here again and you should too! read more

What a wonderful spot. We selected this location based on the listing in Frommers, and because it was enroute to our B&B for check-in the day of our arrival to Paris. The street it's on has lots of activity, bustling with shops and restaurants and cafes. There were also several "passages" within sight of the café, and we toured them after eating. The staff were very friendly and quick to accommodate us when we entered. The fact that our French is extremely poor didn't deter them - they were super welcoming. We had a wonderful, rich and tasty paté with outstanding thick, crusty bread. The salad was also fresh and very lightly dressed. We felt that the light touch of spices gave the ingredients a chance to shine on their own. The coffees were rich and flavorful. We enjoyed sitting facing the street at our tiny table, enjoying people watching while enjoying our food. The prices were reasonable, too. read more

Hubby and I came here for dinner one night while we were in Paris. We were walking around trying to find a place that was in Fodor's but the place we found in Fodor's was closed. We drank white wine and beer and enjoyed a good meal. The waitress was very nice, she agreed to serve me the potato & cheese dish after I explained I was a vegetarian and would not get this dish as a side dish with some meat. After our meal we drank some champagne. The atmosphere while we were there was very casual and relaxed with a few people around us enjoying the evening. read more

Ended up finding this place by accident and I am happy that we did, the food was great and reasonably priced, for two plates and drinks we spent €46. I had the Duck Confit here which was wonderfully prepared and had great flavor. It's served with French fries and seemed like a generous portion. Be sure to explore the neighborhood there is lots to see including the Grévin Museum and there is also quite a few metro stations to take you to nearby monuments. read more

I'm shocked to see that this place has gotten 3.5 stars. It is a tourist trap. In my experience it deserves 0-1. It is pricey and very low quality. A very poor rendition of french cuisine in a very limited menu. Excellent location to take tourists' $ in exchange for a poor service and food. My family and I ended up going there as we were tired and hungry from a long day at the Louvre. It was close to our hotel. We paid around 75€ for 3 adults and a 5 yo kid. You can find way better options at a better price any where else around this area in the secondary roads, just avoid this main street and particularly this place unless you enjoy overpaying for meh food and arrogant service. read more

Great French cafe in an up-and-coming area where the youth of Paris gather in great numbers. More chill than Oz, less snooty than Grevin and cheaper than Indiana, it's the best on the block -- and it helps that it's right next to the Ronceray Opera hotel where we stay when we visit! Servers are attentive and quirky. The crowd is diverse. They often have live music. The prices are reasonable and the food is great. They can accommodate large groups (we regularly meet our students here; they have no problem pushing together multiple tables.) What's not to like? read more

I had an awful experience at Le Café Zephyr on the last day of a beautiful week I spent in Paris with my husband. After a long walk we stopped there for a quick coffee on Sunday. First we asked for a cappuccino in a cup, not a glass, but were refused. So we ordered the cappuccino (in a glass) and an espresso. After a long wait the waiter returned to ask what we had ordered. After another long wait a woman asked what we wanted to order. After waiting about 30 minutes and not being served we decided to leave. My husband told a server to cancel our order and we left. Halfway across the street the woman ran after us screaming that we owed money to them, although we had never been served our drinks. She was acting like a crazy person, grabbing at my husband and making a scene in the middle of the street. Then she grabbed my nylon shopping bag, which led to a tug of war with my bag until my husband intervened and got it out of her fist. This commotion attracted bystanders who seemed to assume that we were thieves. They were physically holding us for the police. We managed to leave after awhile. This was an embarrassing, upsetting and totally unnecessary experience. There are so many wonderful cafes in Paris, and so many welcoming servers - stay away from this café! read more

This was a pleasant surprise. After walking around Paris randomly for a few hours, my fiancee and I stopped here for lunch. The waiter was very polite and cooperative with our limited French vocabulary. We had an excellent view from our table; we appreciated that all of the tables and chairs were oriented to give a view of the bustling Parisian street. We both ordered salads, which were delivered promptly, and were excellent. The waiter remained attentive throughout our meal and I must say he was covering an impressive number of tables effectively; roughly twice the number a waiter is usually responsible for in the U.S. Prices were moderate, as expected, and again, service was excellent. Sat down for drinks with my wife tonight and enjoyed the evening until the waiter spilled a bottle of wine all over us. It was a complete disaster. My wife & I had red wine all over my shirt, jacket and hair. The waiter seemed unconcerned, never apologized but did bring us a napkin to clean up. Our shirts and jackets had red wine all over them & I think they're ruined! I asked to speak to the manager and I heard the waiter say under his breath... "F... You". I got up from my seat and found the manager, told him my night was ruined and I was not paying for the wine they served us. Reluctantly the manager agreed and we left the restaurant. We went here only for dessert. The food was good and the service was quick. Typical french cafe like most of the others you see. We enjoyed it and what was nice is they had two large screens showing the Euro Cup matches. read more

Great service and we were given menus in english. Dessert parisienne is worth the try. I tried duck here for the first time which was ok but my friend's steak was a descent size along with fries. Good red wine I had here and noticed various selections of alcohol drinks. Not bad! read more

We stayed and talked and people stared at us (don't know why), but I guess American tourist seemed very obvious in Paris on a winter's day. read more

Stayed in Paris for 5 beautiful days next to this place @ Best Western Ronceray for a New Years Vacation. On the morning of departure, Jan 1, 2020, my boyfriend and I waited outside for Paris Shuttle but they were 15 minutes behind. I decided to grab a coffee TO GO in case the shuttle came and I wanted to take my coffee with me. This "little weird looking twerp" with ill fitted clothes and an ill fitted attitude at the bar seemed to be disgusted that I wanted to be served a coffee, so much so, that he asked me to put my money on the counter and provided a napkin dangled between his thumb and pointer finger. I left peacefully, but disturbed because the VIBES were sinister. Once outside, we sat on the OUTSIDE chairs to wait. I didn't think this was an issue, considering I had patronized the business two minutes prior. Next thing you know, he storms out and says, "YOU ORDERED A COFFEE TO GO, SO YOU GO, because this is not how it works in France!" We stood up and left peacefully...but I wanted to smack the crappy taste out of his mouth (he came outside to smoke earlier)! So Nasty, rude, and sooo ugly (no wonder he's mad). It was an unfortunate end to a wonderful trip with lots of love everywhere else. read more
