This cute and upbeat brasserie located in Montmartre is a local hangout and a perfect escape from all the Emily in Paris wannabees that are packing all the other cafes and brasseries in Montmartre.
The restaurant is named after the owner's grandmother and he himself is from the Marseille area which boded well for us as my mother is from Marseille. Posters of Fernandel can be seen inside as well as some other provincial décor.
There's a spacious outdoor café area as well as an indoor area. I picked Mademoiselle for dinner due to its positive reviews, location to our hotel, and my aunt, as well as my grandmother, were both named Raymonde. Fancy that!
I ordered the Burrata, a vegetarian burger. My mother ordered the Salade Nicoise, and my aunt ordered some fried fish strips.
Mademoiselle Raymonde like most brasseries and cafes in France is no-nonsense service based. I mention this since Americans think that most French people are arrogant, sarcastic, or hate Americans. None of that is true, the service standard is just different in France. The bottom line is that there is no incentive via tips to provide extraordinary service like in the United States. Just keep that in mind when traveling.
Back to Mademoiselle Raymonde, my biere presion, or draft beer was great. I don't recall the brand or the name, but it was perfect. The Burrata arrived in a bowl pictured and the seasoning around the gigantic ball of Mozzarella could easily have been smelled from across the dining room. Note: It was not excessive at all but tasteful and welcomed after eating so much bland food in the United States. The little cherry tomatoes and the green peas were a perfect compliment.
My mother's Salad Nicoise was huge. She eagerly enjoyed her salad and did find the typical number of sardines inside. My aunt's side dish of fried fish as she remarked had the right amount of crispiness and saltiness to make them an ideal bar food snack.
The vegetarian burger came later as per my request, and it was amazing. It was a freshly homemade vegetable patty with all the accompanying items. The little yellow potatoes adorned the burger was hot and tasty.
We had an amazing visit, and I would totally recommend Mademoiselle to anyone wanting to have a local experience in Montmartre. You may be seeing me there on your next visit. read more
