Although this place is cute, it's very noisy inside given the wooden floors, wooden chairs being scraped back and forth and tables set close together. Oh, and they only take cash which you will abruptly find out at the end of your meal. read more

Nice little spot for breakfast/brunch to get your day started. The coffee was amazing and the croissant was very buttery. The sandwich and avocado tart were very filling as well. When I had dinner at Le Bol in early June, pretty much everything was fantastic. We were seating on their patio, which came with some good and bad. The positives were that you could people watch and admire Vienna's beautiful architecture. The cons were that the people next to us were chain smoking and the breeze was pushing it toward us. Our waiter was fantastic, when we told him we were Canadian, he got excited and told us about all his favorite places in Vienna. As for the food it was great. We got soups and salads at a fair price. Everything tasted good, and we left happy and full. I would recommend this place and would definitely go back next time I am in Vienna! read more

A great place for breakfast, brunch or a small bite in the afternoon! This small french cafe is located right in the heart of the city so it's super convenient if you find yourself hungry after a bit of shopping or sight-seeing. However, it is usually pretty busy especially on the weekends so be prepared for a wait or call beforehand. They serve breakfast all day round but they also have a fantastic selection of salads, baguettes and breads with different toppings. I highly recommend trying their salads; portions are pretty big so they are actually really filling. In winter, their onion soup is also worth trying. Service is decent and food usually comes relatively quickly. The ambience is nice as well. There is a large table located in the middle, that you can share with other people and smaller tables scattered around it. Definitely try getting a table outside if the weather is nice. The seating outside has a nice view of a little square with a fountain in the middle. Overall this cafe is definitely worth checking out! Although I wouldn't say the food is going to blow your mind and it's probably not suitable for a large meal if you are starving but it's a really good option for a light meal or coffee. read more

We stopped in here for brunch one day, and were not disappointed. The freshly baked breads and croissants were heavenly. The meats and cheeses were paired with delicious jams and honey, and are more filling than they appear. The atmosphere took a turn from the touristy streets outside, and offered a strangely relaxed yet bustling environment. The energy is definitely reminiscent of cities like Paris or Madrid, where you can find peace in a cafe amidst the chaos. It was busy, so we didn't receive a ton of attention, but our waters were never empty, and their signature coffee and lattes were fantastic. Ok people, settle down. Seems like everyone kept telling me this is the most amazing French restaurant in the world, and having grown up on the stuff, I can officially declare: "Its good, but not thaaaaaatttt amazing" 1. The menu La di da, its got quiche, different baguettes (think those long french bread sandwitches), tarte, salads, a handful of deserts, and then menthe a l'eau which is the only place in Vienna I've seen that on the menu. But its not the most crazily exciting menu I've ever seen, more casual French food. 2. The environment At least three times I have been taken here as a "treat", but this is the first time we finally waited in the line (there is always a line, and we waited at least 30 minutes). Feels more like a long cave, where they put one long table (but typical Austrian, people do not interact next to the people they are sitting by while I was there), and then a bunch of individual tables. Its also perhaps the only restaurant I have been to thus far in Vienna where numerous people come by themselves to eat; cool. 3. The service: Hey, this could get 5 stars. Speak French, good recommendations (I hate waiters that say "well everything is good" or "well I don't know what you like"). Lady convinced us to switch from grappa to Calvados when we spoke with her, and it was a fantastic one, so A+, nice personal touch, good conversation (short, but sweet). We also sat there for 3.5 hours, catching up, and with the line were never pushed to move or leave. Now that's French restaurant service, love it. 4. Bathroom: Out the restaurant, across the hall. One toilet for the ladies (not sure how many of the guys), never a line while I was there, has a bright pinkish orange colour wall and low light that makes me think of homage to the red light district, but I think it was a faux pas and they thought "ah well, good enough". Clean. I loved that they had in French and German a sign basically very politely saying that they do maintain it, but if you are unhappy, please let them know. Service. I like it. 5. The prices Look. Quiche at over 8 euros. Croque-Monsieur at over 6 Euros. If you are a French person, you know exactly what I'm trying to say. Do not forget your wallet. Don't expect to drink under 3 Euros, including hot chocolate (in a real bowl) at around 4 euros. oooookkkkkaaaay..... 6. The food: Sure, it was good, fresh, I like figs and kiwi with my very generous cheese salad. The wine was ok. The Calvados was amazing. I was super full after. Overall: well ok. If someone else is inviting, go. Don't let them convince you that its the most magical place in the world before though and that might make the expectation more realistic. Yes, finally a great french bistro in Vienna! Really good menu and the food is really good! I like the big community table in the middle of the restaurant, service is pretty good too. Nice authentic French place, I like! Its pretty popular so do expect a line as you might have to wait for a table. Good thing is though, they do not try to kick you out if you wanna stay after dinner to chat, even without consuming numerous amounts of drinks, nice place, will definitely be back, most likely for breakfast this weekend ;) Have to update this to a 5*!!!! Based on close to a dozen visits, four stars is for the food, because if I rated the service, the rating would be closer to two stars. Le Bol is not a classic full service restaurant, but a sandwich and salad place, that is good for a light lunch or after dinner cheese plate. Although they call themselves a "French" restaurant, it is hardly that, because you will be hard pressed to find a classic French dish on the menu. The only thing they have on the menu that is French, beside a limited selection of mediocre French wines, are fru-fru sounding names of the dishes, that I would argue are more Austrian than French. Especially, since everyone in the kitchen is Serbian. Now to the good part: - The cheese plate is great, with nice selection of cheeses and quite generous. - Sandwiches are very good - both the open and the closed faced ones. The bread they use is really good, however, a dead giveaway that this is more an Austrian than French place (I'm yet to find a half way acceptable French bread and pastries in Vienna). - Salads are excellent. Probably one of the best in town. Perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of delicious dressing. The place has a rustic feel to it and a large community table is very cool. read more

Decent Food but HORRIBLE service!! Had Lunch there with 2 girlfriends. We ordered food and drinks (one girl only had a glass of tap water). First of all, it took the waitress about 10 minutes to come to our table and take our order. She was extremely unfriendly to begin with. I ordered a half portion of a salad since I was not very hungry. After about 20 minutes our food arrived. My salad in a bowl so tiny that everything spilled out as soon as I put my fork in it. I called the waitress to ask for a bigger plate, in an extremely rude tone she scoffed at me "you should've ordered the full portion if you wanted a bigger plate". We had some bread with our food but no butter, so we asked for butter, she came back with the tiniest portion of butter I've seen. When the check came we couldn't believe what we saw. They put the tap water on there AND charged us 2 euros for the tiny butter portion!! I will NEVER come back to this place again. Not only was the service extremely bad & slow, and our waitress unbelievable snotty and rude, but to put tap water on the bill and charge 2 € for a tiny portion of butter?? The place in Wien to get fresh, healthy salads full of color and amazingly tasty treats. Ok, so fresh salads are not a Viennese specialty (you can't bread or fry a salad), but this place gets it right. Have only eaten here once but the salad hit the spot. Came with a beautiful roll that hubby devoured quickly and noted how fresh it was. For dining in, this is family style and getting a seat can be hard; what worked best for us was to go, order and then leave and come back 15 minutes later when our food was ready. Great place that offers awesome drinks and delicious food. However, I wouldn't recommend this place for a filling dinner, more like lunch or a snack during the day. Their mint lemonade is really amazing and refreshing. A specialty is milk with either mint or grenadine, we tried both, and they had a really great taste, would recommend the grenadine more though. We tried their specialty salad they are famous for, the one with grilled goad cheese, it was really exquisite, definitely a must try. The terrines are really good too. I was in Vienna for a conference and actually ate here three times because I liked it so much. During the first visit, I had an eclair and their mint lemonade. I took breakfast the next morning (croissant, baguette and jam) and a late lunch (baguette Jean de Florette) as well. It's pretty. If you sit outside, there's a lovely fountain, and inside it's very nicely appointed. They have a fairly extensive tea menu and all of the food seemed fresh and good. I also thought the pricing was on point. The staff were very pleasant. They did not seem to understand French, but were ok with English. read more

When I came there with my friends who are common visitors there I completely understood why they like this French bistro a lot. It is very cozy and the waiters and waitresses are very friendly and cheerful. They speak different languages: German, English, Russian and French of course!!!))) I think it will be difficult for me to find the right words to describe the menu. There is a variety of sandwiches, nice salads and other French dishes which you can enjoy with a glass of nice wine. Beware- cash only! We had the bad surprise of finding out only at the end of our meal and had to run out to find an ATM before we could pay. The service was alright, the bare minimum, and I was not tempted to tip our waitress. We were pleased that the menu was extensive but sometimes a bis misleading. I ordered the coffee with cinnamon but had not realized it was actually a latte (the menu did not say so), and since I am lactose intolerant, had to return it for the milkless version which was pretty much a shot of expresso with an overwhelming amount of cinnamon that had remained undissolved for the most part. The baguettes were hard to bite in and not crunchy at all (which made us wonder if they were French baguettes) but the smoked salmon and onion soup was delicious. read more

The prizes are very convenient and we always get such portions that we are full of energy and ready to start another day of sightseeing. Cute cafe, good coffee. Avoid the food. Everything was lacking salt and flavor. The omelet was over cooked. My spinach and salmon quiche was more unsalted "creamed spinach" pie and was pretty terrible. There were salmon crumbs in it, barely noticeable. I think the egg part of the quiche was just holding all the creamed spinach together. We asked for no tomatoes in the omelet and the salad that accompanied the quiche. All food came out with lots of tomatoes on top. I sent the salad back- they brought it out in about 30 seconds and just picked out the tomatoes. I could see the spots. Just annoying for someone with a food allergy. I wasn't going to order the quiche/salad combo if it was too hard to make it without the tomato and told the waiter I'd pick something else. He was like, we'll make it without! And then here we are. Anyway. I'm used to this but the quiche was actually almost completely inedible so one star. I poured balsamic vinegar on it, added lots of salt, but no luck. Would skip this tourist trap. read more
