We got hooked on this DELICIOUS place by a close friend of ours. We finally moved to Napa Valley and now it's *soooo close* to us we cannot resist. So- anything you get here is savory, tropical, or hearty- depending on your your indulgence! We have had a lot of the varieties but our favorites are those with the bright colors- they are the most vivid and worldly flavors of them all. Lastly, I mis-ordered a box and the lovely Angelica helped us and *also* gracefully threw in a few extra tasty bars for us to try. Le Belge is more about the special flavoring accompanying the chocolate than the chocolate itself. My bf's mom gave me a four-piece box from the Sublime Truffle Collection, such a pleasant surprise! :) Their boxes are very elegant. It's an oval shaped, deep rich brown with lime accent edging box with "Le Belge" subtly pressed into it. You can definitely reuse it instead of throwing it away like any old chocolate box. The chocolates themselves are very pleasing to the eye. I had a heart, crown, envelope, and round swirl shape with beautiful details and colors. La Couronne de la Mer - sea salt blended into dark chocolate ganache covered in dark chocolate. I ate this one first thinking it would be my least favorite but it turned out to be just the opposite. The sea salt actually mixed in very well with the ganache and added another element to the chocolate's flavor. Thank goodness there were no big grains of salt. Citron Vert - key lime granche covered in white chocolate. The lime flavor is a bit strong for me but the white chocolate was even stronger in sweetness. I'm not really a fan in general of the lime/white chocolate combo. Hazelnut Caramel - hazelnut praline over cinnamon ganache infused caramel covered in milk chocolate. This one left me wondering where the hazelnut flavor was but the cinnamon was a great compliment. It wasn't overpowering like I expected but rather light and subtle. Le Coeur D'Amour - raspberry and vanilla & dark chocolate gelate covered in dark chocolate. The raspberry was very sweet and almost liquidity. The chocolate was even sweeter but I could not taste any of the distinct underlying flavors from the cocoa beans like I'm used to with quality grade chocolate. Besides the chocolate itself not being the best, I didn't like that Le Belge used artificial flavors and colors. Most often it masks whatever real flavors there are with a strong sweetness and adds nothing else. There is SO MUCH more to chocolate than the sugar. And there are so many delicious flavors in nature. There's no need to use the fake stuff! read more

I received two chocolate bars made by Le Belge from a coworker for my birthday who knows I have a thing for dark chocolate. There were two flavors: Peppercorn and Sea Salt in 56% Dark Chocolate and Mediterranean Sea Salt & Lemon Zest in 72% Dark Chocolate. Both flavors are a bold mix of sweet and salty. I love spicy chocolate, but have to say I preferred the lemon zest bar because the chocolate was so much darker. The darker the better in my book. I almost would say Le Belge goes a bit overboard with the salt here. Because the sea salt granules are so big, it was a little much for my palate. Although it adds a very nice crunch. I also did not like the quality of the chocolate as much as I thought I would (though this is hard to notice with the bold flavors). We now have a veritable chocolate tasting bar at home including the Le Belge bars, the Trader Joe 86% chocolate bar, Le Guittard 91% chocolate, 99% Tcho baking chocolate, 100% chocolate from Alegio, and 72% chocolate from Pieces of Chocolate. Can you tell we like chocolate? In any case, the Le Belge bars, even with their unique flavors, fall behind (in this order) Trader Joe's, Le Guittard, AND Tcho. The 100% pure chocolate from Alegio is a bit too bitter for pure bliss. read more

They came up to our room with a tray full of chocolates -- probably because we complained about missing robes and a shower handle. Anyway . . . Ordered 2 of their chocolate signature truffle packages online as a gift. First time in my life i have received gourmet chocolates in a cheap plastic tray !! For 15$ handling fees, very disappointed that they couldn't even send them in a box. They did have an option to include a gift message but seemed to have forgotten that appearance is a key ingredient in gift giving. It felt a bit like selling caviar out of a doggy bag.. if ordering a gift, ship to yourself, repackage and gift to save yourself the embarrassment. read more

Recently had the chance to try some of their chocolate at a event and was thoroughly impressed! They had quite an assortment of chocolate that was superb both in aesthetics and taste. I was fortunate enough to try; Milk Hazelnut Praline and Crepe, Dark Vanilla Bean Ganache (To die for), and Dark Fig Ganache. If I had to really pick one, which I think I gave away already, it had to be the Dark Vanilla Bean Ganache truffle, it was downright tasty! We were also given a dark chocolate with sea salt bar to take home, but I have been unable to eat it yet, but looking forward to it soon. Yes sometimes chocolate tastes better when paired with a good beverage. I had the 72% Artisan Dark Belgian Chocolate with Pure Sea Salt at Castillo di Amorosa paired with a sweet wine. It was really good. I decided to have some chocolate bars shipped to me. The chocolate was packaged very very well, I was most impressed with the ice pack that was in the box to make sure the chocolate didnt melt. Delicious chocolate. The truffles are an excellent price. I have yet to taste them. You can order them for a cheaper price if you dont want a fancy box. read more
