For a classy evening in the Upper East Side, look no further than Le Bar Penelope. This beautiful intimate lounge captures old New York charm with its velvet drapery, refined plush seating, and top flight champagne. While some may view their discerning doorman as pretentious, their attention to finely dressed clientele maintains its debonair aura. We were served two complementary glasses of top tier Prosecco. I highly recommend Penelope's secret on the drink menu featuring a delectable green chartreuse.

Without a doubt, Le Bar Penelope is a luxurious and chic bar fit for the UES. I was there on a Thursday night with two girlfriends for drinks and food and we had such a fun time that we didn't leave until closing! The crowd is definitely a little older and more mature but it's still a fun spot for post dinner drinks and some fun music!

Lush and tropical decor make you feel like you're on vacation.

This is just the spot the Upper East Side needs! No need to trek downtown to get your dose of chic and social fun! Everyone is friendly, staff and guests alike, beginning with friendly Jordan at the door. And the clientele runs the gamut age wise. It's fun for everyone. I'll definitely be back.

Strong hundred with everything on point. Stellar service from Door to table. Gracious and courteous smiling staff with great attitude to create a really fun experience. Love the cool atmosphere and comfortable decor. Diverse crowd and fashion forward. Delicious drinks and yummy table bites. A definite yes and thank you. Looking forward to the next time. Great addition to the neighborhood.

Definitely missing this in LA! Such a cute vibe. Visiting New York City I was able to check out this hot spot with a girlfriend. Definitely felt like I stepped into a cute little Parisian hot spot. The crowd was super chic and the venue gorgeous. The music was incredible, I literally was Shazaming every song the entire night. The drinks were creative and delicious and the food was your typical lounge/bar food. You don't come for the food, you come for the vibe, music and to have a good time. They give you some complimentary snacks when you first sit down, they are quite tasty. They also have a cute little candy station set up, I snagged some on my way out for the taxi ride back to the hotel. The dj was incredible and all the waitresses look like models. Our waitress Magdalena was super sweet and attentive to us the whole night. Not to mention absolutely beautiful. Love the sophisticated atmosphere and chic crowd that you can't find at many other places. Looking forward to coming back on my next trip to NYC.

My friend made reservations for dinner at 7pm on a Friday, this place was pretty empty when we walked in. The ambiance is gorgeous and inviting. Sherry was our server and she was amazing and provided suggestions on cocktails and food. My friend and I ordered lychee martinis, salad, spicy tuna crispy rice, yellowtail jalapeño sashimi, wagyu slider, and miso glazed Chilean sea bass. The food was really good but pricey for the portions you're getting. My favorite was the miso glazed Chilean sea bass, it melted in your mouth but it was so tiny. My friend treated me for my birthday and we had the butter cake for dessert, it was very dry and had no flavor. I would probably just come back for drinks if I'm around the area.

I am sad to see all the negative reviews! This place was soooo fun. We went on a Wednesday night which had a live piano bar and the gentleman performing was really good he knew how to get the crowd going and everyone was up and dancing it was packed. The staff were very friendly as well as the doormen. The vibes inside were very sexy. The drinks were really good and the food as well. I would totally come back. I would try to go on a Wednesday for the live piano but the music they played after was still good. Overall very fun time!

My friend and I really struggled with this place unfortunately. We only came for drinks at the bar. The doorman/bouncer was so kind though. When we walked in one of the hostesses in a black super short skimpy uniform glared at me though. I'm a customer dressed appropriately and wore a $1000+ fur coat. Don't know what her issue was. The hostess was kind though. A lot of tables were empty but reserved. By the time we left a whole entire section was still empty and reserved. At the bar, it was all women mostly glaring at me. Awesome. I didn't do anything. I just wanted a cocktail after a nice dinner we had. I feel like the bar consisted of a lot of jealous women. A couple were pretty chill. Anyway, this place is having an identity crisis. It's giving GITANO/Tulum vibes but trying to be almost like an exclusive members club, and a nightclub? The women working wear super short skimpy black dress or mini skirt uniforms which is odd because this place isn't a night club. This isn't Le Petite Disco/Marquee bottle service women. The bar area remind me of the Mulberry. The front entrance with the seating on the right side reminds me of a nice hotel lobby. The vibes and interior are off everywhere in each section. The bartenders are phenomenal and kind though. No issue with them. Drinks were great. There's a pianist who sings on wednesdays which is nice.

I was warmly greeted by the gentleman at the door (5 service there), which set a great first impression. However, as soon as I walked downstairs, it felt like the space had lost its speakeasy vibe. I was seated right near the stairs and could feel cold air from outside every time the door opened, which made the experience uncomfortable. I was also surprised to see how much the cocktail menu had been reduced. When I asked about it, the response was that "the place changed a lot." That's fair -- places evolve -- but instead of highlighting the improvements or new strengths, the explanation focused negatively on what the bar used to be. As someone who really enjoyed the former version, that wasn't reassuring. Unfortunately, the drinks themselves didn't make up for it. One of the two cocktails was simply not good. No one came back to check on the drinks, and when I asked for the check after about 20 minutes, there was no acknowledgment that I had barely touched mine or any inquiry about my experience. Overall, a place I once enjoyed and recommended now feels more like a standard dive bar where " Mixologist " were replaced by bartender and were fun cool looking and tasty drinks were replaced by " less complex cocktail ", lacking the warmth and attention to detail that once made it special.

Easy to find if you know what you're looking for, if you arrive right at 5pm on a cold weeknight in the winter, you'll easily find a table or seat at the bar. Very cute space, cozy like everyone says, but nothing mind blowing. Music is moderately loud. The menu in early February still included their winter holiday cocktails. I was more interested in the apple sage house-made fermented soda, and it was pretty good-large glass, flavorful and not too sweet. My friend enjoyed her pomegranate version. The space started to fill up at around 5:30. Service was polite when you could get it, but generally very inattentive, even before it got busy. It honestly didn't feel too different from anu other very nice NYC bar, in terms of menu selection, prices, ambiance and service. Maybe that's standard for NYC speakeasies, but the places I frequented in other cities were more fun and felt more worth the price. I'll still give another NYC spot a try, but not coming back to Thyme.

They're experimental, whimsical, delicious, and worth every penny. My absolute favorite is Child of Light, and my BF's was High Frequency Device. The interior was dimly lit, with a couple of candles per table or counter. It's a perfect place for a date night. And while there may be a wait on busier nights, it's always worth the wait. We were sat at the bar once and were very well taken care of by our bartender, Nikola. It was a Sunday night, so it wasn't terribly busy. We chatted up a storm and he was able to create some drinks off the menu just for fun (on request). He also made my BF and me a couple of drinks to celebrate our anniversary too. Wonderful people and wonderful service. Needless to say, we will be back as frequently as we can!

Clean bathroom too. The bar/speakeasy was much bigger than the coffee shop it was located behind HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

As I walked in and saw just how swanky this place is I panicked - there was no way we could just walk in here without a reservation, right? But the hostess was, thankfully, so down to earth. I was straight up like hey I totally messed up and thought we could just walk in here, she was like you know what, let me see what we have. Lo and behold, she did have a table for us - as long as we were out in an hour and a half, which was just the right amount of time. Stepping into this place feels like you're in some secret, super special cocktail club. Decor is super high end, vibes are upscale AF. The cocktail menu is incredible -- and incredibly pricey, but truly worth it. I ordered the Valentino which was strong and sweet, really well made. They gave out a complimentary nut mix that was also delicious. Service was swift and gracious. If you're looking for a spot to impress a date, this is it.

There's also seating on the second floor, perfect for couples or small groups. I tried two of their cocktails when I went. The first was the Eastern Julep, a delicious twist on a classic. The mint Moroccan tea gave the drink a cool, refreshing taste on every sip. I also tried the Silver Screen, the closest drink I could find to an old fashioned. It was interesting, there was definitely a hint of a buttery taste. Overall a really balanced bourbon drink. I walked in and found room at the standing tables. It somehow manages to feel both refined and relaxed at the same time. The kind of place where you half expect to spot Hemingway in the corner pretending not to eavesdrop. We started with half a dozen oysters, which were fresh, briny, and exactly what you want with serious cocktails. Crisp, clean, gone in about three minutes. For drinks, we ordered the Smoke Show and the King Tusk. The Smoke Show was beautifully balanced. The Grey Goose vodka and Dolin Dry gave it that classic martini backbone, but the fino sherry and brine added depth. The smoked olive oil and blue cheese olive brought just enough savory drama without overpowering the glass. It was complex but not fussy. The King Tusk leaned more aromatic and layered. The vermouths gave it richness, while the Buddha's Hand and osmanthus flower added subtle citrus and floral notes that lingered in a really elegant way. It felt like a cocktail designed to be savored slowly. The music fit the mood perfectly, not too loud, just enough to give the room energy without killing conversation. Overall, it's a great spot if you want elevated drinks in a space that feels transportive without being pretentious. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I'm in the mood for a refined, slightly cinematic night out in Flatiron.
