There's a new kid in town, his name is Layne, let's give him a little love. The Hunny and I did that, we went to see how good Layne's Chicken Fingers is. First, it's at a competitive location. Chick-fil-A is very close to the freeway exit, and Raising Cane's is across the street. And that's just the chicken. The short distance between I-10 and 11th Street has a lot of places to eat, including a Dairy Queen. Time will tell how well Layne's does. The food is pretty good, right about at Cane's level. The chicken fingers are smaller, which works out for people with smaller appetites. The Hunny had regular and I had spicy, we both enjoyed our meals. She had hers inside two slices of Texas toast, and they kept falling out. Several sauces are available: honey mustard (me), buttermilk ranch (her), BBQ, Layne's special, I forget the other. Or you can do like I did and douse the chicken with Cholula. So, pretty good, not all that memorable. It's certainly not bad, and the price is good. But Chick-fil-A has a larger selection, and is better funded with so many restaurants nationwide. And Cane's has a quirky character that stands out from the rest. Compared to them, Layne's has joined the crowd like a minor political party among the Democrats and Republicans, shouting "Hey! Look at me! I'm here too!" It doesn't have the distinctives of either Chick-fil-A or Cane's, but I think it can still succeed. Go ahead and stop by, you should like what you get. read more

I have been to this Layne's location a couple of times since their opening. Their chicken is more seasoned than their competitors, but it tends to be heavily a on the drier side. The toast is just regular white bread that is buttered and grilled. Their fries are really crispy and are the best part of their meals in my opinion. I have also tried the salted caramel milkshakes, which are a good blend of sweet and salty, but on the thicker side. However, if you are ordering large orders, please check your food and make sure they have everything correct. I recently ordered two of the family packs. One family pack consists of 20 pieces of chicken amongst fries and toasts. My order consisted of one regular family pack and one spicy family pack, which comes out to a total of 40 chicken tenders. After receiving the order, I opened the package at home and realized they had only given me 30 pieces of chicken all regular. I called and the best they could do was provide me the remaining ten of my chicken in the spicy flavor and two free fountain drinks. This was so disappointing, especially since it was for an event. If it was busy, it would have been understandable, but there was not a single soul when I went inside. Overall, the restuarant is a fast food chain is just like any other. However, it is halal for those that have food restrictions, which I think is it's most redeeming quality and why I gave it an extra star, as there are not many halal options around this small town. read more

Best chicken fingers. Period. Better than Canes, Bojangles etc. Love the spicy, but regular are good too. Crunchy crust that isn't too thick, hot and juicy tender chicken. Best sauce too! Get the Layne's for sure, then I like the jalapeño reach, but there are plenty to choose from. Everyone is right, try the salted caramel shake!!! Service was quick (limited menu helps) and friendly. Tried Layne's for the 1st time today, it was darn good. The seasoning on the regular and spicy is good, the spicy has just enough kick. The fries were and are the top performer, perfect crisp and flavor, the kind of fries that work in an air fryer. My only ding, would be the sauce IMO is not as good as Cane's, and they only fill the sauce up half way, not fully filled like Cane's. Overall, I give Layne's a 8.2, in my Dave Portnoy voice, Cane's gets a 7.2. Both places are good. read more

Don't let the ridiculous line turn you away! Went to try it out yesterday, the drivethru line was all the way to the Dairy Queen but it moved QUICK. Next thing I know I'm up next to order. I ordered the 3 piece spicy... woo boy Cane's across the street is in trouble!! The sauce is pretty similar to Canes' in flavor, but there's a slight difference. Not sure my palate is advanced enough to point it out, haha. The chicken is delicious, just the perfect amount of spice. Since I got the order to-go, I was worried it would get soggy like other fried chicken does, but nope! Fries and chicken were crispy when I got home. The fries... mhmm. They're crinkle cut, good flavor and like I mentioned before, they did not get soggy after sitting in the container on the drive home. I'm sure the lines will shorten once everyone's had their chance to try it, but if you happen to get stuck in the line, don't worry, it will move fast and it'll be worth it. Good spicy tenders and my fries are always fresh however everytime I go they get something wrong with my order

So I decided to stop here a few weeks ago for lunch and I've had Layne's for the past 2 weeks for lunch and dinner, I'm hooked now . I went through the drive thru just the other day and unbeknownst to me they gave me the wrong order. I tried calling but no answer and I left a message for the manager. I went back the next day and notified the manager and they gave me my order on the house!!! How about that! Their customer service is great, very friendly staff. Food is better than the competition, I'm hooked now and I definitely support Texas owned businesses. The line may seem long, but it's worth the wait and it moves pretty quickly. I'm here visiting family and I saw a super long line the other day and was intrigued. I passed by the next day and there was no line (only 3 cars) and I'm glad I tried this place. 4 finger combo with half spicy, half regular, fries, Texas toast and lemonade. SO GOOD!!!! The chicken is perfect it's nice and crispy. I have been loving the spicy chicken also - not too spicy but has just the right amount of flavor. My personal favorite is the fries.
