Heard the saying, "don't judge a book by its cover" this is a perfect example. We were in town for a concert, first time staying out here, so before the concert we wanted to grab a bite to eat. I searched on Yelp for burger places and this place came up. I'm big on reading reviews, so I did and all the reviews were great, so got in our truck and went to this place. When we pulled in to the parking lot, I was hesitant because it is attached to a gas station and past experiences haven't always been great, but I'm so glad we tried it!! From our step in the door we were greeted by a gentleman (sadly I didn't get his name), but he was so nice and cheerful. They have such a variety to choose from. As we looked at the menu we were unsure what to order, so we asked for recommendations. He asked if we liked certain things on our burgers or if there was something specific things we were wanting and gave great recommendations. What we ordered: a fish sandwich with mayo and tator tots, mushroom Swiss burger with onion rings, southwest burger with fries and a patty melt on Texas toast. I can honestly say, we all ate everything, didn't leave a single bite of food, it was that good!!! My sister in law raved about her fish sandwich, she said it was so good, she even ate all the bread, which she usually doesn't. I LOVED my southwest burger!! I'm not a fan of onions unless they're grilled. This burger comes with grilled onions AND grilled jalapeños, delicious!! I ordered the 1/2 pound, later thinking I'd regret such a big burger, NOPE! I ate it all! Tasted a bite of the meat, before trying it all, the meat was a good thickness, juicy and tender, cooked perfectly!! With all that to say, don't be afraid to try this place!!! This is a little local chain that makes really good fresh homemade straight off the grill burgers. I'm still not sure which location makes the burgers the best because I haven't gotten to try all of them yet, but I can tell you that are big and cheap and greasy and very unhealthy and very delicious. So basically exactly the way a Southern hamburger should be. Many times eating here and always the same, come hungry, leave stuffed! Hamburger Depot is far from your typical burger joint. To begin with, there is a menu that's sure to please any and all taste, and if not, it's been my experience that they can more than likely accommodate by your next visit. Your food isn't "fired" till ordered, so wait times are a little longer than typical burger chains, but well worth the wait. Prices are on par with Whataburger but again, the weight makes it worth it. I have never, ever ever had my order mistaken, they are by far my favorite burger joint in roughly 50 mile radius. The burger isn't being served to you by the clerk pushing the gas buttons, talking on the phone to her sister, and unable to find a package of cigarettes that is clearly, blue. No, No, this place is ran by what seems to be a close knit African American family. Family, friends or whatever- they are on to something! The burgers come in all weights: from heavyweight burgers for the fearless glutton, to people watching their weight, yet unable to resist this understandable vice. The dieting should probably order the "Sissy Burger". Of course, I had no interest in getting this, so I cannot describe it to you. In my weight class, I found half pound patties covered in Chilli and Cheese and others covered in BBQ and jalapenos. The burger is damn good! And you will be sure to pay for it once you leave the parking lot. However what puts this place in the 5 star category, what brings it over the top is what sides the burger. Of course you have French Fries (which are fantastic), then Curly Fries, then Cajun Seasoned Fries, and oh yes, the Onion Rings, but hold on...brace yourself...FRIED OKRA! My eyes fell out of my face, onto the counter as the cashier handed them back to me and I sat down. Without a doubt, Hamburger Depot serves the best burgers in Beaumont. Perfectly seasoned, wonderfully cooked and amazingly juicy. I would not recommend coming here after church unless you go home and change clothes first. Of course, they make that easier by being closed on Sunday. Plan your visit when you have plenty of time. They are almost always busy, and as the sign inside says, they "are not fast food." On my first visit, soon after they opened, I was not impressed with their onion rings. However, they seem to have changed the way they make them and now I can't do without them. The food was quite good. I find them not quite as good as Willy Burger but also different in a way that you can't quite compare them. I would defiantly get food here again. Main thing that bothered me was the lady cleaning up, she asked and hinted at getting a tip 3 times.. no joke. I always tip well, but i never had someone do that. I took a star because of that. It was a good burger, I've gone several times for lunch. For the small amount of people in the restaurant the wait for food is quite long. Furthermore they don't use Heinz Ketchup, but Cisco "House Recipe" brand. Personally don't like the taste. Spend the extra $0.50 and get real ketchup. When I walked into the place known as "Burger Depot" the stench hit me.It was a cross between rotten eggs and fried food. The tile was the type you see at your local high school ,and on the ceiling was a patch of mold so big you could hear it breathing(or maybe it was the AC unit that was purchased during the Reagan Administration). Their burger was below average and was dry and greasy at the same time if that is even possible. The fries could give you cancer and the drinks Ebola. Although many people says it fills you up, in order to fill you up you have to be able to eat the food which is not possible. I took a very long trip to the bathroom afterwords. TL:DT Summery: The burgers are dismal, the service is lazy ,and the decor hasn't been updated in decades. I had a really good plain cheeseburger here. Very juicy, large portion. They have a lot of burgers on the menu, but don't go here expecting much else. It is a good price, about the same as any fast food place. I don't recommend the Cajun fries - they had very little seasoning on them and were hardly distinguishable from regular fries.
