How everything changed after chef Ramsay came here! The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, the beds are super nice and even the ones for the dogs! The dog kennels and play area are a safe and friendly place. read more

This review is regarding the restaurant. There shoukd be negative stars. I was totally blown away to see a large dog running around in the restaurant. Just because the restaurant is named after the dog does not justify a dog running around the restaurant putting her head on the table where you eat. DISGUSTING! Wait, as though that was enough, the owner's wife walks to the table carrying another darn dog and in comes a customers big dog which it's owner could not contain. THREE DOGS in a restaurant. Where in the hell are the health inspectors. Food arrives looking hideous and I refuse to go into detail about the bland taste. We all were looking at our meals with the expression of what planet did this blob arrive. Needless to say, nobody completed their meal. Low and behold, out walks the owner/chef dressed like he had just finished working on a roof repair and painting job. So I asked someone, "what the hell did Gordon Ramsey say about the restaurant" because if I was GR, I would sue every time my name was associated with the restaurant. Eat at your own risk. read more

Beware, owner is dishonest. Sandy overcharged us by one night (x 2 rooms) and promised to take care of it. After several phone calls and emails, no response and no sign of the refund. Be sure to watch Hotel Hell first and know that not much has changed. Very unfortunate as this place has potential - but not until the ownership changes. read more

If you have a dog and need somewhere to rest your head then this place is it. We decided to leave New York City on late notice and found a room at Layla's. It was exactly what we needed laid back and relaxed. Our room was Suite 4 which was newly renovated and had a door to the outside which helps when you have a dog in tow. The breakfast was hearty with large portions. Our dog got to play with other dogs which made for a very friendly atmosphere for everyone there. The location is easy to get to everything. You're not far away from Mt. Snow or any of the other restaurants or shops. If you are coming from NYC don't expect a rush here this is casual and easy going. The main dining room has a giant fire place which we bought a few bottles of wine and ordered our dinner by. Yes this is BYOB but honestly I prefer that you can bring your favorites with you and enjoy great food. read more

A couple friends and I were traveling to Mount Snow for an event and found this place was 6 minutes away. Booking our reservation using their own website was painless, and I called to confirm after and was greeted by the Owner, Sandy. He confirmed our reservation and was pleasant to speak to on the phone and in person. While Sandy made a point to say hello, Rebecca went above and beyond to take care of us, she was extremely sweet! The weather outside was comfortable and when we asked if there was an opportunity for us to spend some time outside Rebecca showed us to their beautiful scenic back deck and fire pit. Affordable price for a great nights stay. Can't beat the location either. (This was post Gordon Ramsey's visit and revamp). read more

The hotel looks wonderful and the owner is so humble that he over came the greatest challenge, of self, and made an amazing inn. Creative and innovative!!! Cheers!!! read more

A great hotel, kind staff and owner, we came before the hotel was visited by Gordon, and hated it, but after we watched Hotel Hell, and seen that it was improved, we came again and loved it read more

After a day at Mt. Snow we enjoyed the comfort of Laylas! Staff was very welcoming and it felt like spending the night at an old friend's home. Our room was very cozy, clean and comfortable! The owner was friendly and we loved Layla running around and greeting us as we came and went. Next trip to Mt. Snow we will be visiting Laylas! read more

Newly hired chef Steven Dickson has totally elevated this place in terms of the food. A simple yet remarkably complete menu highlighting local ingredients is the cornerstone of this place's charm. For the wife and I, along with our 2.5 year old son, we started with the caesar salad. And sure, everyone has a caesar, but this one is excellent with a real homemade dressing and damned near a full head of romaine. Nice presentation and a quality classic. A fantastic Poutine to start the real food followed. Utilizing Vermont Family Farm hog for the braised pork shoulder and Maplebrook curd for the melted awesome, this was right on, well seasoned and good to the last bite. Entrees for the evening were the Crispy Duck Confit, a killer plate with a nice crispy touch and well seasoned so as not to be too rich as some confits can be. The bean accompaniment was right on with well cooked and flavor beans in a ragout with kale and bacon. mmmm. bacon. I myself went with the rather pedestrian menu item of a 12oz Boyden Farm NY strip steak. It was cooked perfectly to my requested MR and the quality of the sides made the dish far from it's pedestrian description. Sure, it's beef, potatoes, green beans and mushrooms, but the thoughtful presentation and cooking of every side and the well marked/cooked steak elevated it beyond the simplicity for sure. That and I just wanted a nice piece of beef. Large portions too, we packed up about half of it for tomorrow's lunch. In spite of the amount of food we'd already had, we went ahead and ordered a dessert, the Chocolate Molten Cake was spot in. An exercise in the salty/sweet trend with salted caramel sauce over the molten chocolate cake and real bacon with the maple ice cream and candied walnuts. Really nice and a fine cap to an already fantastic meal. Add on that it's still BYOB (we brought a nice bottle with us) and you're getting a fantastic dinner for a VERY reasonable price here. Solid portions and truly thoughtful food throughout the menu. If they keep this up, it's definitely going to be the hidden gem of the valley until people figure it out. One of the best meals I've had in some time. No joke. Even having our toddler with us was just fine, Sure we got up and strolled the grounds between courses or played around in the 'library' up front, but this is probably the first real four course meal we've attempted with the little guy and it went wonderfully. Give it a shot, Gordon Ramsey and crew came by to tape 'Hotel Hell' here and put Sandy and his staff through the ringer. So far they're clearly taking the criticisms to heart and doing a great job on the food side. read more

The hotel is really nice and staff are friendly however I think hotels should stay out of politics and because of that I wont be going back. I go on vacation to get away from politics not to be embroiled in them. Even if I agree with the owner, which I dont, I still wouldnt want politics to seep into my vacation. read more

I ordered a groupon for a two night, three day stay at Layla's Lodge. The photos of the groupon were unbelievable. So beautiful and looked like just our style. I checked the website and saw none of the same photos, instead old grandma looking spaces with dark cold guest rooms. I called before purchasing the groupon and asked why there was such a big difference. The owner said to me that he was afraid to go public with all of the renovated photos because he was unsure he wouldn't be ready for the crazy amount of business it would bring him. (I have NO clue why I believed him at this point) I explained that my husband and I were very picky about where we stayed, we would be driving a long way to come and that the reason we liked what we saw so much is because everything looked clean, fresh and bright! I then asked him how much of the facility had been renovated because I needed to be 100% sure I was coming to the same place I saw on groupon. He said to me "oh everything is basically done. About 97.5% of the lodge is renovated. Sure you might find some wallpaper hanging from the hallway, but this place is just amazing. The ONLY rooms not finished yet are the bunk bed rooms and I'm sure you and your husband aren't wanting to stay there, right?" Oh the owner was a charmer. He knew exactly what to say. He told us that Gordon Ramsey himself came and kicked his butt into gear and turned this lodge into an amazing place. So we ordered the King Suite and drove the 3 hours to the lodge. And here's where it gets disturbing: We walk in and see none of what we saw on groupon. Wallpaper everywhere, it smelled so weird even my dog was trying to run back to the car. We weren't sure where reception was until we heard two guys calling out from this messy hole in the wall. The owner that I had talked to was there, standing barefoot in a tshirt to greet us. He showed us to our room and then left. I was in awe over what we found. Stains all over the carpet, furniture broken, missing blinds, and zero hint of renovation. The walls were so thin we could hear them down the hall. We were the only people there, too if that tells you anything. I immediately wanted to cry because this was supposed to be our anniversary getaway and we had been seriously lied to. We packed everything up and asked where we could get our money back. The owner looked so shocked (I have no clue why, he obviously knew we would find out he lied) and told us we would have to contact groupon. So we left and drove the 3 hours to go home. A 6 hour trip for nothing. LUCKILY we got a full refund for the trip. All the reviews I read were good and I have no clue why so I wanted to make a review myself. If you have the chance to visit Dover, Vermont, do NOT stay at this lodge. The owner is such a liar I can't understand how he lives with himself. I'm also VERY confused about why Gordon Ramsey would put his name on this place because frankly that is a huge embarrassment to him. Will never have anything good to say about Layla's Lodge and I hope everyone takes my advice to stay far far away. read more

Sandy the owner and his staff are absolutely amazing I was pleased staying at their beautiful lodge and food was amazing as well !

This place has improved over the recent years. Much cleaner and even better food. Very lovely location, right on a gentle river! Charming!

Cannot wait to go back!!!! Often on "hotel hell" you see a bunch of people who are lazy, gave up, and should just not be in business. But that was just not the case for this inn. I think the owner's heart has always been in the right place, but he was just in over his head and didn't know how to turn it around. But after Gordon Ramsey's help / guidance, this place is amazing! You could just tell the owner really cares about people & dogs and truly cares about his inn and making it a fabulous place that family (furry & non) want to keep coming back. We most defiantly will be returning! read more

WARMING: on 25 December 2015, I book 4 nights for "$1,271.60" at Laylas Riverside Lodge website and booked a room at their establishment for the nights dated 12/28 through 1/1 2016. The Lodge owner, Sandy, who took the reservation charged $1,271.60 plus extra $50.00 per day for the third bed, and 50.00 per day per dog boarding. At four days it extra totals $600.00 for the reservation total of "$1871.60" to my credit card at the time of the booking. I had no idea until I saw my credit card statement. He never sending me the revision invoice nor request my authorization of extra charge. After my vacation, on Jan 4th, Sandy illegally charged my credit card without authorization for damages he claim was cause by my dog that were a result of their own negligence. I have to cancel my credit card and report a credit card fraud. He is no response my email or review. Stay away from this hotel and Sandy. State business official need to check his qualification to run the hotel and kennel business. read more

This isn't your typical inn experience, but if you're a laid back person that loves dogs, this is the place for you! The location is beautiful: There's a steam out back that you can wade in, plenty of outdoor spaces to relax while you sip a drink, and a fire pit on the side of the house where they have bonfires each Saturday during the summer. Sandy the Innkeeper is a great guy. He made us feel like we were visiting an old friend from the moment we walked in. My fiancee and I had a night to kill when we arrived so he got us drinks, spent hours chatting with us, gave us dinner recommendations, and even kindled up a blazing fire for us while we watched our dog run around the yard with Layla and Stella. Sandy was also more than happy to watch our pup instead of locking her in the kennel when she was exhausted after hiking up Stratton and we were heading to our next adventure. Layla and Stella, the two resident dogs, are incredibly sweet. They were perfect companions, greeting us right when we arrived and coming along to swim a little upstream from the Inn. One thing to keep in mind is that while the pups are super well-behaved, they do have free rein of the place so if you're not a fan of off-leash dogs you may not want to stay here. We had no issues at all with the room. It was clean and homey and the bed was comfortable. We didn't stay for dinner so I can't comment on the restaurant, but I can say that Sandy makes a mean omelette and french toast! All in all, we loved the place and the people and we're planning on coming back within a month. read more

My wife and I stayed at the Lodge over Valentines Day Weekend this past winter. We booked a room with a wood burning fireplace at an extra cost only to find that we weren't allowed to have a fire in the fireplace and that we weren't entitled to a refund for the fireplace option. The weekend was nice; the food was good and the staff was courteous. After we left, we saw on our credit card statement that the Lodge had billed us double for what the room should have cost, and the owners of the Lodge aren't refunding the the overcharge amount. The Lodge owners have been difficult to deal with in acquiring the refund and 6 months later, still won't credit the over charged amount. In these past months they have provided very poop customer service and extremely bad business practices. Not a very good way to go about their first few years in business. read more

The place looks good. But the dining service is terrible and the woman at the reception desk is very rude. We arrived for dinner. The serving speed is low and they forgot to get us plates, forks after they had served the food. And they also gave us the wrong drink and forgot to serve the soup. That was acceptable as they only had 2 servers. But our experience for breakfast was extremely annoying. I sat there for 90 mins ONLY for breakfast. We came at 8:30, and there were 2 other tables coming after us in 15 minutes. The waitress (woman at reception) took the order for the table came last before us. And we had already sat there for 20 minutes waiting for her to take the order. I didn't say anything about that. Then 2 of my friends came to sit with us and they ordered. But they were served after those who came 20 mins after them...I told the waitress that we came before them. And she said the kitchen flipped the order.....I said, but you can flipped the order to the right order, we ordered the same thing. Then she started going unsane yieling at me said : what are you talking? You can come with me to the kitchen, come and see. I said: no, I am not going to things for you. We just want to have our things served. You should learn how to do multi-tasks. Then she shouted and stating that I was being unrespectful....That was rediculous, we were overlooked again and again and just wanted to have the service in order and she was doing things wrong but acting like a victim. Finally, we were about to leave. She approach to my friend who is pregnant saying that how inappropriate we were. I was very angry that she was annoying my pregnant friend. So I told her, we have waited for 90 minutes for breaskfast. Then she opened the door and said to me "get out, you are speaking loud (i swear not louder than her). Get out of my place, right now!!! " I said "I will only go out when I want to, not you ask me to. And this is not your place. I would like to talk to your boss" Then guess what she said? She said: "You have already paid, and you should get out now, or I will call the police" Call the police? Seriously? I was amused. If only she called! If you have time to wait for food (and really not that good) and would like to face a rude waitress who had no experiences of how to do things right, that's the place to go. Just to be fair, they have a nice common room for party. But I would rather go somewhere that had better service people. We chose the place only because all other places we would like to go had no occupancy. Now I know why it had.... read more

My fiancé and I went to this restaurant because we read the reviews stating how great the food was. However, our experience was far from great. I order a steak dinner medium rare, asking for it to be more on the rare side, and my fiancé ordered the salmon dinner. The waitress was extremely nice and cheerful. However, it took over an hour to get our food (there was only two other couples in the restaurant) which was ridiculous. When we got our food, my steak was smothered in mushrooms and a gross sauce (the menu didn't state that it would be smothered in mushrooms), and my steak was well done! I hate well done steak. It had no flavor, and the sides were awful. I had roasted potatoes (I was only given 5 small pieces) and green beans that weren't fully cooked. My fiancé's salmon was very small and had no flavor as well. We both had the same sides (which typically a steak and salmon dinner have different sides), it seemed like the cook didn't want to bother to cook our food as it should have. When I told the waitress about my steak, she was horrified and apologetic. I was able to get my steak for free which was thoughtful. However, it was difficult to even eat part of it because it was disgusting. It seemed like the cook smother it in mushrooms because he was trying to cover up the awful taste! Overall, it was plain awful, and would never return. But the waitress was very nice, I feel bad that she needs to deal with a terrible cook which impacts her tips. read more
