I came into the clinic skeptical of the healing powers of chiropractic care. My mother received chiropractic care from a different clinic but was not satisfied with the results. As a student who is pursuing a medical and science career I only knew about the healing effects of medication. That being said you could understand my skepticism. I was suffering from profound neck and back pain from a horrible auto collision. Despite my primary physician prescribing me pain killers, muscle relaxants and a steroid injection, I was still in horrible pain. I was unable to work and had to take a quarter off from school because of how bad my pain was. Within the first week of daily adjustments, I felt some relief and noticed an increased range of mobility in my neck and back. I no longer felt the need to take strong pain killers and muscle relaxants. I am about 3/4 of the way through my adjustments and I seriously cannot imagine my life without Dr. Clayman helping me. I came to his clinic with the intent to relieve my neck/back pain but I am so greatly amazed by how much the adjustments have helped me overall. I never realized how crucial the spine and nervous system is in regards to your overall health, both physically and mentally. For years I have struggled with insomnia, not even prescription-strength sleeping pills could help me fall/stay asleep for more than an hour. Again, within the first week of adjustments I have been having the best slumbers. I have never fallen asleep so easily and slept for a solid 6 hours, and better yet, I was not in any pain!! Dr. Clayman doesn't just adjust your spine and help you feel better. He also educates you on the importance of taking care of your health holistically and healing. His clinic has a warm ambiance to it as well as friendly staff that always greets you. What I really appreciate about this clinic is how accessible they are. As with all the other one-star reviewers here, the experience with Dr. Clayman was shady/used-car-salesman like, bullying me into buying a 3-month package of visits for $2,700 (when I have insurance), scare tactic/misdiagnosis ("You are on your way to spinal arthritis, etc."), and taking an unnecessary $300 X-ray fee when it was covered by my insurance (and not refunding it). Two weeks later I went to a legitimate ortho M.D. and refuted each of the claims Clayman made about my spine, when I just in for a fall on my left hip. Clayman is cool. I mean I understand that not all people gel and he's got a very distinctive style that may not be agreeable to all folks but he's very old school. He's the kind of guy that operates on trust and is sort of like a handshake is good enough and asks for that sort to reciprocal trust in his methods and treatments. In the line of work he's in he's gotta deal with all sorts of shady people: lawyers, insurers, etc so I get why there is a certain coldness in terms of costing and Just an innate knowledge of what things are gonna be out of pocket vs what insurance will nickel and dime over. I'm glad I took the leap, so far things are great, I feel like they actually care about their patients. Their staff seems to make a point of knowing their patients and making them feel more like familiar friends vs a clinical thing. They are also great with kids and do a fear job of getting you in and out. I also appreciate how flexible they are with schedules. My only knock so far is that it's in a bad area. Dr. Clayman has a uniquely welcoming and caring method to his treatments. I've been coming over 4-/2 years. Initially for lower back spasms but he focused on all back issues, with adjustments and the equipment that helps me literally feel a release and walking taller each time I leave the clinic. His approach seems counter-intuitive to gently begin treatments but sticking with them are worth it. I've referred one person who had pain and suffering after a traffic accident and had previous pains in her back. Her only complaint was that the insurance stopped covering her treatments and had to limit her visits. Long term care is really the doctors passion, whether it's after an accident, muscle spasms, body builders or just a workman like me. His staff isn't always long term but he vets them closely to be sure his patients will have the best possible treatment all around. Several of the staff have gone from working with the clinic to higher learning and far more intense careers. This place is the classic shady chiropractic experience. It felt very snake oil salesman where I kept being told that due to his 30 years of practice he knows what it'll take, so let me mansplain to you for 25 minutes after telling me it was FAR WORSE THAN EXPECTED! We ended it with him telling me I was being hostile because I wanted him to get to the point of the plan and cost and he said it was not a fit, in which I agreed. The office never ran my insurance so I had to pay out of pocket for x-rays. Google references gave him a 5 star so I hadn't read the below unhappy yelp reviews. A few hours later I went to a different chiropractor who was far more professional, spoke to me like an adult and gave me a great adjustment, and our plan is to do it 3 times and then reevaluate. Would not recommend this place unless you are willing to do an entire treatment plan based on your individual needs. I came in for an alignment, as I explained to the receptionist. Doc said he needed x-rays so I obliged and had them done. He asked to meet the next day and went over them. When I didn't agree to his recommendation of a lengthy treatment plan, he quickly ended our session and sent me on my way because his "reputation" was on the line. If the business strategy here is to lock you in to a commitment of care, knowing that I only came in for an alignment, then I'll pass. Meeting clayman he quickly told me I had a spine of a 90 year Old lady. Me & my partner was told by himself to come everyday @3:30 M-F to realigned our spine!! Which was extremely suspicious already that's way to much for anyone & were just young 20 year olds.. And every time we meet we felt the alignment wasn't even Corrected properly & were quickly told to go home. On Friday's another chiro comes in that substitutes for him a Asian doc, Dr. J once he aligned us first time we notice,he's more precise & genuine.. He does every single bone alignment and we felt a huge 360 difference and full effort. clayman always talks down on him every time We compliment him. From 1-10 at first coming in I was a 8.5 now I'm a 10. My neck ,back etc everything hurts more, can't sleep even more, my chest been hurting my blood pressure is off the charts!!! He often drops negative Humor it's sickening. he isn't the chiro you will learn to even trust or even stick around. In NYC I had have chiro apps and never have I felt this bad and had so much apps (5x a week) WTH ! It's so hard to trust someone and THEN for them to take advantage.He takes 3 mins to do shitty adjustments and tells you goodbye c u tm. I feel EVERYONE & their family should know what's going on!! They had two receptionists that worked w him for awhile. This guy is good at sounding like he cares about you. But after 2 visits he clearly was trying to pitch a sale and didn't care about my individual needs. He didn't do anything on my first visit. Paid 30$. Next visit he looked at my x rays and wanted to do this lengthy health plan that needed me to come in 3 days a week. Said I wasn't comfortable with that and he got all weird and ended the visit. I asked for some sort of alignment at least and he did 1 things to my neck and one little thing to my lower back that took literally 2 minutes and charged me 120$ and Said don't come back basically. read more

I totally agree with Amber here. That was the same deal I got. Read this book, fill out paperwork, get a bunch of xrays, talk to doctor briefly and then sent home to come back tomorrow to discuss. The adjustments did help, but that goes for any chiropractor really. Adjustments in general do help. I can tell you what doesn't help. All the crap and drama that goes along with your visit. You have to seriously go there 3 times a week and also so other class they want you to attend. Plus they want you to bring the whole family in to each evaluation. The doctor's inappropriate comments are what made me stop going to the clinic. For example, I don't think it's very appropriate for a doctor to call you babe or listen to him talk about other clients and/or employees. Listening to other patients get lectured for not making all appointments made me feel bad and embarrassed for them. Or if you weren't able to go, then expect to get lectured as well. He really does not know how to talk to people and has the biggest ego around. When you start dreading going to your chiropractor instead of looking forward to it, it's time to move on. Don't go here if you work, take medication for pain management or if you just don't have time to make a full time career out of going to your adjustments. read more

I am always skeptical of Chiropractors, but I'm glad I took a chance here! I usually don't have back problems, but was recently in a car accident which caused my back to be out of alignment. I sually don't go to Chiropractors so I had no idea where to go. I was recommended this place by a friend and I was very pleased with my choice. The office is clean and inviting. The staff is friendly, professional and eager to help. The doctors are very knowledgable. They didn't try and push me to excessive treatments like most medical offices will. They gave me a quick diagnostic and made a recommendation of what I needed and nothing more. After only a few treatments, my back was 110% better! They don't only do back related injuries. They offer physical therapy for wok or sport related injuries and also a variety of massage therapy. I highly recommend this place to anyone suffering from any type of injury or seeking massage therapy. I recently acquired an injury playing tennis and will be returning for physical therapy. read more

tl;dr: This is one of those cases where you should judge a book by its cover I went in because I was experiencing some upper back / neck pain that developed recently. The first visit was $80 for a sit-down session where he asked me a bunch of questions that warranted very subjective answers. He had me lay down and felt my back/neck noting misalignments. We then went to the X-ray room where he took a few X-rays. When I asked if I would be getting an adjustment on the first visit, he said "no, I have to review your X-rays to determine the right treatment" which is fine, but just five minutes prior to that he pointed out the misalignments with his hands. Presumably he could feel which vertebrae were out of alignment. On the second visit, we went over my X-rays in detail and talked about some of the issues in my neck, which was a positive experience. After reviewing them, he asked if I was still at "a 7 out of 10" for getting this thing fixed. I said I was still around that mark, and this is where the tone shifted. He said that they only take on patients that are an 8 out of 10 or higher and told me that if I'm looking for a quick fix I should go to the guy down the street. He then very childishly said "should I just go get you his card??" I asked to hear more about what his treatment plan would look like but he refused to tell me because I wasn't committed. He turned his back on me and started to leave the room, saying "call me when you're ready to fix this." I pushed a little further stating that there are other factors that I'd like to consider when measuring my commitment level like time, cost, etc. As he left the room, he snapped back "it will take at least 90 days and cost you thousands of dollars. Call me back when you're ready to talk." The whole experience left me feeling shocked and confused. I was NOT just looking for a "quick fix." Dr. Clayman came off as salesman, so I just wanted to know what the treatment plan looked like before fully committing: how many adjustments per week/month? Is massage therapy a component of the plan? When you ran my insurance last time, did you find out if your services are covered? None of these questions were answered. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Lawrence Clayman at the Roxbury Chiropractic Clinic for over a year now and have had excellent service. I know not everyone believes in chiropractic care but I do and he's and his staff are great. When I walk in I'm always greeted with a "Hi Mitzie how are you today?" I can go in telling the doc my knee hurts or I'm feeling like I'm getting sick and with just a crack and a pull I start to feel better already. Since I've been going here I've been sick less and *TMI alert* have had almost no cramps!! */TMI alert* compared to before I started going. They work around my schedule and if I feel I need adjusted I can walk in with out an appointment and they'll see me. The location leaves a lot to be desired, it's on Roxbury right before you enter White Center and their hours are a little odd but other than that I'm very happy with the service and care I receive here. read more

Instead, I had an array of tests and sent home to suffer the first day, then told to come back in the next day for a consultation. Mid-way through the consultation is when I left. This is a "hard sell" joint. They'll stop at nothing to get you to sign up for their treatment. Preying on the weak by dangling their treatment just out of reach. Dr. Lawrence behaves more like a door-to-door salesman, than a doctor. His staff are all extremely pleasant, and respond quickly to questions via email/phone. Dr. L's treatment plan for me consisted of 40 chiropractic visits for a grand total of $1500 - and he basically told me that without this I would suffer from a host of illnesses, including sever back pain. Sure enough, 2 weeks after my appointment with him, (with rest and yoga/swimming), the back pain eased up. I have since gone back to the chiropractor I was seeing in 2009, and aside from minor adjustments - he thinks there is nothing to worry about. Stay away from Dr Lawrence's clinic. Clayman will drain your PIP coverage!! I should have known better when he did not take an XRay of my knee. He focused on my back and neck when i specifically told him my knee injuries. He informed me that my joints would be back to normal after couple of months. Without any Xray, i am not sure how he was able to determine this. So now, i have to pay out of pocket for further treatments. Not going back. He likes to tell you that he would like to see you once a week if your pip is running low. read more

He did not have a good reaction to this, and he would keep telling me different things every time I would ask for an explanation. Right or wrong, I think it's a competitive enough market with sufficiently informed consumers that, with rare exceptions, quality of care is fairly constant. So, I tend to judge a lot of smaller businesses by how they treat their staff. I figure if you're miserable at your job, then chances are you either don't believe in the work that's being done, you're under-appreciated or underused, or your boss is a jerk. So, I looked at the staff at Roxbury Spine and Wellness Clinic. They seem genuinely happy to be there. They seem to believe they're part of something good. They are professional yet relaxed. Industry-wide, turnover is high in front-office service jobs, but people stay under Dr. Clayman's employ for a lot longer than the average. And, they seem to be having fun at work. We should all be so lucky. I see staff members trusting Dr. Clayman with the most precious things in their lives--their loved ones. I've met their parents, friends, spouses, siblings, and children in the treatment areas. The model of chiropractic care isn't for everyone. It's almost like a religion. And I'm skeptical by nature, so I have to look beyond the chiroconversion efforts and chiropropaganda that's pretty much necessary for a modern business to survive, and focus on whether the treatment is helpful. And, for me, it is. What about the doctor himself? I'm glad he's not working in a large corporation. He'd die. Dr. Clayman is a funny, quirky, opinionated fellow who believes in himself and in what he does. I see lots of people who love Dr. Clayman. From the reviews here, I get the feeling there are others who don't. I'm betting he's a guy people react strongly to, one way or the other. He's a strong personality. Personally, I like people like that. I know where they stand. Your mileage may vary. So, bottom line: nice facility, good staff, and the doctor makes me laugh *and* provides effective treatment. read more

One of the worst experiences of my life. I am having terrible lower back pain which started out as just pain from sleeping wrong. It increased as I tried to ignore it and move on. Yesterday, I called around to many chiropractor clinics trying to get a same day appointment and this was the only one available. I went in and the chiropractor got a bunch of information from me (told me my posture is that of a bell ringer) and then took x-rays. I've been to other chiropractors before and never needed to do that but I went with it. Then he tells me that that's it for the day and to make another appointment for the next day. I'm in tears I'm in so much pain and he didn't adjust me at all. So I go home and that's when I read all of the terrible Yelp reviews. I decided that I probably wouldn't have that experience and I NEED to be adjusted so I kept the appointment for today but made sure to call and confirm that I would in fact be getting an adjustment at my appointment today. I get there and the guy shows me my x-rays and says that my back is a huge mess, nothing's working right, etc. Then he goes into a sales pitch about how I am going to need at least 3 visits a week for 3 months and how he can give me a deal if I pay $1000 up front--right then. I told him I needed to feel better today and then I can think about doing long term repair work on my 'terrible' spine. He told me he does not do quick fixes and ask what's holding me back, "the care or the cost?" which made my skin crawl coming from a medical professional. I said "so you're not going to help me at all unless I pay you $1000?" which is when it was clear I needed to just leave. He told me to go to another place down the street that doesn't do any tests or care about long-term. Please avoid this place at all costs. I have been seeing Dr. Clayman for about 4 years, on and off, and he and his staff have always been friendly, caring and professional. They do great work, visits are usually quick and painless, and excel with insurance claims. Plus its very conveniently located (for me) , and they call whenever I'm late, just in case I forget about my appointment, which happens occasionally. "Dr." Clayman is an absolute fraud. Read the other 1 and 2 star reviews and take them very seriously. I seriously question the validity of any 5 star reviews. I went in seeking relief for a pinched nerve in my neck. The counter staff of high school drop outs with more tattoos and piercings than a circus side show should have tipped me off from the start. "Dr." Clayman was dishonest, manipulative, and exceptionally cagey about the various "test" results. He refused to show me my x-rays. MY OWN x-rays that he was holding in his hand (or so he claimed. It was just an envelope). He told me I had "one of the most messed up Charlie Brown Christmas tree spines he'd ever seen." Yes those were his actual words. He then tried to sell me on a package of recurring visits. I left after that statement. I iced and heated my neck on my own and felt much better the next day. I then went to another chiropractor who ran her own tests and assured me my back was in great overall condition. She advised me on how to avoid poor sleeping habits and sent me on my way. I personally would never let anyone I love set foot in that office. I feel so strongly about this I welcome private messages and can give plenty more detail if needed. The ONLY way I could recommend these people is if you know exactly what you need and you live nearby. If you're a few minutes late to your apt it's no big deal because it's basically one big assembly line anyways. You often wont even look at the Dr. in the face until you're completely done with your apt. If you've been in a car accident stay as far away as possible! They will drain your PIP coverage by charging your insurance company outrageous rates for questionable care. After my wife's PIP coverage ran out we went to see a lawyer who explained to us that this would be a problem with our case and that we should stop seeing the chiro immediately and go to a physiatrist instead. My wife did and for the first time her back started to improve. But, because of the "over-treatment" as the lawyer calls it, we were offered a paltry sum from the insurance company. For all the pain my wife has had to endure, this just added insult to injury. To top it off Roxbury took LONGER than the maximum time allowed by law to respond at EVERY turn. I would estimate that they delayed our settlement by about 4 months. They'll rarely return calls, and when they do it's to ask for more time. Long after every other aspect of our case has been dealt with we are still waiting on them. We're trying to get them to reduce our bill for everything after our PIP coverage ran out, because for some reason, we were sent a bill (both my wife and I separately) a YEAR after we stopped seeing them! Everybody else my wife saw was willing to reduce her money owed because of the poor settlement offer, but Roxbury has been ducking and dodging my calls, making promises to get back to me and the only time I actually was able to get to talk to Harry (their billing guy) he would only reduce by about 10%, compared with up to 75% for our other people owed. Ironic considering it's their over treatment that tanked our settlement. I was promised a resolution to this weeks ago and I'm still waiting... unfortunately they seem to have a lot of meetings there, so it's hard to get ahold of the right people. If you read my story and still go to these guys, you get what you deserve! My lawyer's aide has even said she's never seen anything like this. She basically gave up trying to get them to call her back, and asked me to try, but I'm not having much more luck. read more

In my opinion, it not a place to go. I felt so much better when I didn't see him for 5 days! I was going 3 times a week. My neck wasn't hurting but he still will use this thing on my neck which made it hurt all day, even when icing it. He wouldn't give me any exercises to do unless you bought his kit for $210.00! He won't tell you what or what not you should be doing as far as vaccuming, walking, yard work, etc. I'm not impress. This is solely my opinion. I got an appointment after getting a free examination at a fair. I went in and they made me fill tons of paper and I told them about my medical history .. the doctor came in and did not review nor did he talk about any of the things I mentioned and started to talk to me about practicing readjustment therapy without making a proper diagnosis or asking anything about the patient history, especially when there was surgery and a history of treatments, this is when I knew he is more interested in getting you to come in on a regular basis than helping you. I left and had to pay a fee even though I was not satisfied with my 30 minute wait of filling paper and a 2 minutes interview with the doctor. Since then I receive emails, letters every week or so even though I checked not to contact me for promotional offers. I visited this "doctor" once. I was 7 months pregnant and didn't have insurance to cover a chiro but need relief so badly. I looked for someone close to home and there were so I made an appointment.....or so I thought. When I arrived I wasn't on the books so I sat around waiting because they said the could slide me in. Then when I did get in, I had a brief meeting with on the the assistants, followed by more waiting. When he did come in it was exactly like someone else said, it felt more like being on a used car lot the a doctors office. He hooked me up to some weird scanner thing that was supposed to let us know how out of align my back was. After that he said he would review it and call me back with results and I would then schedule an adjustment appointment. Then proceeded to tell me he would only charge me $150 for the visit. WTF!!!!! REALLY?!!!!!!!! Then it gets good. I get a message later that evening saying I have a very serious condition with my spine that needs immediate and long term care. Ok wait, I'm very pregnant and this is a message you leave for me? I was scared and pissed! It was unprofessional and nothing but a scare tactic to get my money. My fiance' was livid as was I. I never returned and found a chiro through a friends recommendation. It turns out a slight adjustment that took 5 minutes(and $30) was all I needed. Salesman tactics disguised as medical services. Fine massage though. I went for a massage to help with back pain. The everyone was friendly enough, and the massage was pretty good. It would have been 1 star without that. The trouble was the chiropractic sales pitch before the massage. The doctor told me it was necessary to do a medical interview first, which turned out to be a thinly-veiled attempt to close another deal. He ran through a battery of standard sales tactics, the most appalling was trying to get me to "admit" I need his services. He would ask a series of symptom-related questions (e.g. "do you experience any bloating, constipation or diarrhea?") *as if he was trying to diagnose some disease* like a normal doctor. But, unlike a normal doctor, then he would follow each one of them with "do you want to make sure you don't develop those symptoms?". This was just after he told me that subluxations of the spine can cause just about anything, so the clear implied message was "if you buy my services you won't get these symptoms". He repeated this 6-10 times for different symptoms while poking my spine and telling me how bad all the misalignments were, obviously trying to scare me into buying what he was selling. He then pressured me into getting x-rays and coming back for a meeting the next day. I agreed, but upon further reflection it was clear that no matter what the x-rays said he was just going to tell me I need his services. I (politely) asked him to just provide his recommendation over email, which he declined because he "can't explain it over email". Surely this is just more salesmanship because you can coerce somebody into buying a product better face-to-face. I find it unethical to use a medical interview for personal financial gain. Dr. Clayman is great! I haven't had a bad experience so I have no idea what all the fuss is about. The front desk has been so nice and awesome. I been coming here for 3 weeks and I have had a big improvement. My pain is almost gone. Everyone that I have encountered here have all been nice and this is coming from someone who works in healthcare. Totally recommend coming here. read more

I was in a car accident and called around to a few chiropractors in the area. Dr Claymans staff was friendly and knowledgeable from the first phone call all the way through the entire process. They were able to answer any questions me and my family had. He went over our xrays and pointed out problem areas. Spoke with us on a plan to fix the pain. Should us different exercises and stretchs to do in between visit and before each adjustment. I have recommended friends and family to his office. I went to see Dr. Clayman due to my back giving out when I lifted my 35 pound son the wrong way. This resulted in one leg being about an inch longer than the other causing me a lot of back and hip pain. I experienced what some of the other reviewers who gave him a bad review experienced. I got a pamphlet, a quiz about it, then questions about my health that were really annoying. He pointed to a picture of the spine and asked me starting at the bottom, if I experienced any problems urinating, all the way up to my neck, did I have a lot of headaches. I get the whole "wellness" thing, but honestly I just wanted some lower back relief. Later, after holding some strange electric pulse wires to my neck and back he said he could tell that my spine was under a lot of stress, and he wanted to take xrays. Geez, really? Stress. Ya think? He then gave me a much needed adjustment, and told me to schedule an hour to go over my xrays, talk about exercises, etc. Fine. But here is the kicker. He told me he needed my wife to come in too, because she was going to support me in my health. I told him that it wasn't likely that she was going to be able to come in because she works too, and when she isn't working, she would be taking care of our two kids while I was seeing him. He said he really wanted her to be able to make it. I looked at him strangely and scheduled a time with the receptionist. The day we scheduled for this ended up snowing a lot so I rescheduled for 6 days later. When I came in, he asked me if my wife would be joining us, and I told him, no, that she wouldn't, and that she supported my health and would help with any exercises he gave me, but it wouldn't be possible. At this point, "Dr" Clayman told me that he wouldn't go over my xrays or exercises without my wife present. OK, confidentiality issues aside, this guy is clearly just interested in getting my whole family to be his clients. I told him that it just wasn't going to work out with us and that he'll have to send my xrays to another chiropractor. I then walked out. read more

This is a review for Kelly Perona, a newer chiropractor in the office. Kelly was very thorough in asking me about the problems I was having with my knee (which I suspect is from running) and the pain in my neck. She gave me the first chiropractic adjustment I have ever had and it was awesome! Although she did not adjust my knee, I think that she was correct in her assessment that the discomfort while running was coming from an imbalance in my back, because after the adjustment I ran faster, longer, and more effortlessly than I have in years. Also, my neck felt much looser than I can ever remember. I have had several more adjustments from her, all with great results.
