Celebrated my birthday with lunch at Lavash recently and couldn't have asked for a better time. After a walk at nearby Golden Gate Park, we ventured over and sat outside in the lovely little parklet. We enjoyed the flowers, particularly the beautiful orchids, and while there is some street noise it didn't detract from the day. My SO had never had Persian food before and I was excited to "show him around", so to speak. I loooove Persian food so we ordered the sabzi paneer and kash-e-bademjan to start. Then for mains he had the prawns kabob and I went for the joojeh soltani (one chicken and one koobideh kabob). They asked if I would prefer thigh, breast or a mix, which I really appreciated, and I chose a mix. Everything was so delicious and well seasoned and the portions are so large we had a great amount of leftovers to enjoy later. This is the best Persian food in all of San Francisco! I have come here many times and am always impressed by the flavor of their juicy kabobs. I've had the Joojeh kabob, koobideh, barg, and shishlik (lamb chops). The ghormeh sabzi is also delicious, and another khoresh I would also recommend trying is the gheymeh. For an appetizer you must try the kashk-e bademjan, an eggplant dip which they make perfectly every time. I would also try the mast-o musir which is a yogurt dip with shallots. They also have classic Persian desserts like faloodeh, a cold dessert similar to a sorbet, and bastani sonati, a saffron rose ice cream. If you are trying Persian food for the first time this is what I would recommend: Drink: doogh, a yogurt drink that I recommend everyone to try at least once. It is quite tart but also refreshing and pairs well with Persian food. Appetizer: kashk-e bademjan. This pairs very well with the lavash, cucumbers, tomatoes, feta, and herbs (sabzi paneer). Main course: either the soltani (1 skewer of barg, 1 skewer of koobideh) or the Joojeh soltani (skewer of Joojeh and skewer of koobideh), so you can try the different types of kabobs. Dessert: bastani sonati, saffron rose ice cream. I will always come to Lavash! Be sure to make reservations on the weekends as they get booked very quickly. read more

The food was amazing and the service was great! Wife and I had a late lunch here because we wanted to try their baklava and tea. We found street parking right in front, which is really lucky on a Sunday because this area is a little challenging to find parking. The restaurant's ambiance is very nice and quiet and staff does not rush you at all. The lamb here is delicious and tender and the baklava with bastani gelato is amazing! Wasn't as flavorful as I had hoped for, but was still good. We decided to share the Taste of Persia, which has chicken, filet, and Koobideh. The filet pieces seemed a little small/thin. The chicken was very flavorful and juicy. The Koobideh was yummy as well (we added an extra skewer of it for the table). The Taste of Persia is all sitting on a lavash bread, with grilled veggies and tomatoes. Highly recommend eating that bread after it's soaked up all the meat juices! The Baghali Polo with dill and Lima beans rice was very tender and juicy. Felt it could have used a little more flavoring, but they give a bowl of sumac that you can add yourself. We always either dined at Lavash or ordered the Persian food occasionally. We came to Lavash with our fur friend on Thursday. We ate outdoor as definitely they don't accept small dogs inside the restaurant. At least they have the heater. The owner Saeed stopped by at our table. We exchanged hello and talked about our fur friends. Our server Sebastian was nice. I ordered my Persian tea, my husband ordered his soda & our daughter ordered ice tea for drinks. For appetizer, we got the table's favorite Kashk-e-Bademjan. It's a roasted eggplant spread, garnished with sun-dried yogurt, roasted onion, garlic, mint flakes, and saffron. It was so good eating it with lavash bread. For lunch we ordered the Lavash Special to share (two pieces of shishlik, a skewer of joojeh, a skewer of koobideh, and a skewer of vegetables served with two plates of saffron basmati rice) and Koobideh Kabob (two kabob skewers of mixed ground beef and lamb). Sprinkling the sumac seasoning added the tangy, citrusy flavor on the meat, veggies and rice. I tell you the Persian food has the incorporating sweet, sour, and aromatic elements, rather than being overly spicy or hot. We enjoyed our meal so much that we did not have any left overs. This was an impromptu dinner where we didn't have reservations, but they were able to seat the 4 of us inside. Outside dining is also nicely decorated with floral arrangements. All done in very good taste and gives off a romantic vibe! We started with a bottle of red wine, Serial Paso Robles 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon. Our friend is a bartender and chose this wine for us. The meat is always juicy and tender with lots of flavor and the portion size is great. All the staff are always friendly but I do wish they were more attentive with refilling water or asking if you'd like another drink. My partner and I tried this restaurant a few years ago and although the food was delicious, the server was quite passive aggressive to us which made me reluctant to come back anytime soon. We have been stopping by this area several times this summer and because of how good it was, we decided to give it another shot and bring along some friends with us. The owner had a meticulous tracking system for the reservations that evening and told us how long we could have our table for. We ordered the kashk-e bademjan, soltani and adas polo. Our friends ordered the soup-e adas & taste of persia. The kashk-e bademjan really hit the spot as an appetizer and reminded me of how delicious eggplant dishes are. The soltani was the best dish as the barg was so tender and flavorful. The koobideh was amazing as well but the barg was far more vibrant and tender. My partner had ordered the adas polo and it was a very sweet dish. I had to layer on the sumac intensely to add some flavor and drink my water fervently as the meats were very dry. Our friend shared some of their soup-e adas and it was so earthy and refreshing. I had not tasted something like that as a soup in a while. A minor qualm is that the server did not check on our water as frequently as I would have liked. I felt quite parched through most of it and especially when I was eating the adas polo. read more

Came to Lavash and had a wonderful experience! I highly recommend reservations if you prefer to sit indoors. Looking over the menu, several items caught our eyes. We began with the Kashk-e Bademjan which is a seasoned eggplant spread. It was sooo yummy! The consistency was buttery and creamy and finished with just a light smokiness. We also got a little dish of lavash bread, fresh tomatoes, feta cheese, and basil and mint from the house. We loved the freshness of all the ingredients and used the additional lavash to eat up all the eggplant dip! For entrees, we shared the Lavash Special for two and the Zereshk Polo (Jeweled rice). The Lavash Special is highly recommended in my books. It provided the perfect sampling of all the dishes! Additionally every item was cooked to perfection. The lamb was a perfect medium rare and the chicken kabob was so juicy and tender. As for the Jeweled Rice, it was also very tasty but I do think it was a little heavy handed on the barberries which made the bites very tart. Luckily the Lavash Special came with a lot of rice so we just mixed a little in and made it a little more palatable for us. For dessert, we tried the half Falooda and half pistachio gelato. The falooda was really interesting with the vermicelli noodles but we definitely liked trying something so different! All in all, we really enjoyed our meal. I used to really like this restaurant but the last two times I have been there recently had a terrible experience.. the appetizers were very low quality and don't taste anything like the Persian names used for them .. the owner or manager working as the host were very rude and despite the fact that the restaurant looked pretty empty pretended to have many reservations.
