The wait staff was not very welcoming, which definitely impacted the overall experience. When visiting a restaurant, especially one with such a great reputation, I expect to feel welcomed and valued as a guest. I was also disappointed by the inconsistency in the posted hours. The hours listed on the restaurant's website differed from the hours shown on Google, which can be very confusing when you're trying to plan your visit. Another concern was the payment experience. The restaurant placed two separate holds on my account--one for $1 and another for over $100. I understand that temporary authorization holds can sometimes occur, but having two separate holds was unexpected and added to an already disappointing experience. Hopefully, this was just an off experience, but based on my visit, I would hesitate to return.

I am not someone who waits in line for a reservation. I always joke that if Jesus Christ is at the end of the line, I'm still not waiting. So... we paid someone to stand in line for us. The place itself is adorable. Small, intimate, and full of charm. I was a little thrown off that the only drink options are beer, wine, or water. Two people in our party don't drink, so that felt like a miss. But then the food came. And I get it now. It was, without question, some of the best food I've had in a long time. We ordered a lot, and every single dish delivered. The caviar sliders were unbelievably good, buttery, salty, and indulgent in the best way. The tuna toast, fennel and celery salad, and ceviche were all standout, with the ceviche being especially memorable. The soft shell crab and tempura flounder were perfectly done. Even the gundi surprised me. And to finish, the "not fried" ice cream and banana pudding were just outstanding. Service was excellent, warm and attentive without being over the top. The whole experience felt special. Bottom line: I hate waiting in line, and I still wouldn't. But I am very glad we found a way around it. Totally worth it.

Everything was good, but nothing mind blowing, and I would say they were all a little too salty for my liking. I particularly liked the Tuna Crudo, Cauliflower, Grilled Oysters, and Fish. I really liked the hint of curry in the Grilled Oysters and the fresh, gingery taste of the fish. It wasn't fishy at all. Would I want to come back for the food? Sure. Would I wait in line for 2-3 hours for this food? Probably not. Paying for a line waiter might not be too bad if you have multiple people in your party to split the cost.

But people from other parts of the country, primarily may associate CHS with Low Country food like Shrimp & Grits, Fried Green Tomatoes and She Crab Soup. I didn't see any of these traditional Low Country dishes on S&S's menu. I did see (1) Carrot Bolognese, (2) Green Curry Cauliflower and (3) Seared Yellowfin Tuna with cashew tahini. S&S is a modern, creative, vegetable and fruit-focused Shareable Plate restaurant. A cool take on Farm to Table. You'll also find some seafood, chicken and meat dishes. It was so hot during our visit, that an imaginative menu with lighter high quality ingredients was welcome. My wife and I tried: Grilled SC Peaches with watercress and vinaigrette Watermelon with pickled rind, feta cheese and a vadouvan vinaigrette Gem Lettuce Salad with Maple Tahini, pistachios and pink peppercorns ‍ Chantrelle mushrooms with SC corn, black garlic and potatoes Free Range Chicken with an Ahi Amarillo sauce and cabbage Aside from the chicken, all of these dishes felt inventive and fresh. The plating was terrific. Lots of colors, shapes and textures. The flavors really popped. The stand-outs for me were the peach and watermelon dishes. The chicken was good too by the way. It was well cooked and had good texture. I wish the World had more restaurants like @sorghumsalt . It was a joy to eat there. Five Stars *Sorghum & Salt is not new in a technical sense. After sitting there another 10 min and not being acknowledged whatsoever, I got fed up. Honestly, I grew up in the Lowcountry and I can tell you that *most* restaurants/bars/shops/etc. in Charleston feature employees who are generally gracious/friendly/hospitable/helpful. Then, on occasion, you run into places like this. How they stay in business has to be a function of location alone, because their service is absolutely horrible!
