I had my 6 and 4 year old boys with the intention of finding somewhere to fish for trout. Dan helped me add to my gear and shared some places to go. He knew lots of places to go and what the fish were biting and it was true. So this is more of a "Thank You" to Dan. Marvelous experience! Truly deserving of its title Tallest Peak in the Contiguous US. We went the…read morelonger 45-mi route from Cottonwood Pass, which took us 3 days 2 nights. Camped 1st night in the forest by a creek, 2nd night by Guitar Lake. Lots of privacy throughout this ordeal. Each day we passed about 10 ppl each. Heard cows mooing. Saw pikas, marmots, chipmunks, and fighter jets. Mesmerizing night sky completely blanketed with stars. Tough altitude experience. Lightheadedness and windedness from AMS will kick your butt. Better train beforehand by hiking shorter mountains such as San Gorgonio (11.5k', tallest peak in SoCal). Many people camp at least one night somewhere along the trail to help acclimate/acclimatize to the lower air density overnight. Turns out the hut at the summit (14.5k') will protect you from lightning. You will definitely need a water filter. Don't wanna lug 5 L of water for 20+ miles. Refill your bottles at creeks and lakes.

We were very lucky to snag a couple of last minute permits. Drove 4 hours and started hiking at 1…read moream. Summit the mountain around 8 am and enjoyed our time at the top. The views are amazing and the 99 switchbacks seem like eternity. We got back to the parking lot at 6pm and drove home. Weather was great at about 40 degrees. An unforgettable adventure. I can just dive into this place and find something cool, whether I've been looking for it, or not! This visit, I did not have much time available for a "deep dive", but still found a couple of pairs of pants for winter snowshoeing this season for a great price. ( Yes, there is a dressing room for making sure something fits.) The staff working here are helpful and knowledgeable. This place has a lot of consignment stock, so you never know what you'll find. For all of the gear heads who need to thin out your gear closets, this is a place to find new homes for your gently used gear. I wish it were closer to where I live.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the great assistance and information provided by Mike and Sarah Re: gear. (FYI - They have tons of variety for your outdoor needs AND even have a climbing wall and gym) Purchasing the Leki trekking poles and renting the Snowline microspike/crampons $6/day was FABULOUS! With my poles and the microspikes I felt like an invincible SpiderGirl walking up and down hard packed snow and ice! I LOVED the hike to Blue Lake SO much, I hiked it twice in a row!!! YUP! I'm talking 2 days SAME trail! One of my all time FAV hikes and I've hiked in Patagonia, South Island NZ, Canadian Rockies, etc. If you want some hiking fun at this time of year, drop by Sage to Summit! Buy your trekking poles and rent your microspikes! Totally worth it! I'm thinking of hiking this trail one more time it is THAT cool to hike thru packed snow and ice with those microspikes. FYI - Hike to Blue Lake is about 7.15 miles RT based on how much exploring you want to do! Luckily, I hiked in twice in a row to shoot some photos in different sections. It's a HUGE lake and unfortunately, I don't like waking up early, so still wasn't able to hike further to the middle of the lake area due to lack of daylight hours at this time of the year. I brought my bicycle here when the derailer fell off and the brakes stopped working right. When I…read moredropped it off on Sunday afternoon around 1:30 they said it would be ready on Tuesday. I told them at the service department that the bike would not shift gears going up, that the shifter only worked right when downshifting. Imagine my surprise when they text me less than three hours later saying my bike is ready. It seemed OK, they asked me to ride it in the parking lot. It was 5:50, and they closed in ten minutes. The bike shifted OK for a couple of cycles up and down. As much as I was happy to get the bicycle back the same day, I was not happy after riding it several time and from gears five thru eight still trouble upshifting. I truly wish they had kept the bike until Tuesday, maybe the bike would shift properly. I did not need to get my bicycle back fast as much as I needed to get my bicycle back FIXED.
