I love this shop. It has racks and racks and shelves and shelves of outdoors gear and clothing for all of your outdoorsy adventures. I can just dive into this place and find something cool, whether I've been looking for it, or not! This visit, I did not have much time available for a "deep dive", but still found a couple of pairs of pants for winter snowshoeing this season for a great price. ( Yes, there is a dressing room for making sure something fits.) The staff working here are helpful and knowledgeable. This place has a lot of consignment stock, so you never know what you'll find. For all of the gear heads who need to thin out your gear closets, this is a place to find new homes for your gently used gear. I wish it were closer to where I live. read more

My husband came in here for a new ski set up. He definitely found everything he was looking for. Boots, skis, polls, bindings. The gentleman helping him was very knowledgeable and very helpful!!! I'm not sure how great of a deal he got but he was happy so that's all that matters. I was looking around. They have a ton of other fun jackets pants etc. somethings I found to be a good price others not so much. Take your time and look around. Very cool store. read more

Excellent selection and great for everyone. You do have to spend some time combing the racks if you're looking for something really specific, and it tends to be lean on larger sizes. We went to Mammoth Gear exchange because my girlfriend and I were in desperate need of a tent. We had recently spent the night in a cheap Walmart tent at Wild Willy's and the tent was flying away with us in it. In the process of trying to wrestle the tent down I got fiber glass stuck in my hands. I was very fed up with this tent. We walked into the shop and explained our situation and David Elder listened to us and helped us pick out a great used (like new) tent at an amazing price. It had aluminum poles so I would never be in danger of getting fiber glass in my hands again. The tent is also extremely sturdy. While the Walmart tent would shake violently with a slight breeze, this tent withstood hail without so much as moving. And while the product and the price point were amazing, the real benefit of this place was the service. Every other shop just said "what you see is what we have" and wouldn't really help us find what we needed. Here, he took the time to help us find the ideal tent and set it up and actually listen to us. The extra help alone would have been worth the premium that the other stores were charging. Been coming here ever since they were still at the smaller location down the street. Two entrances, one right off the 395 or you can go to the back where there is ample parking. This is an outdoor gear consignment store probably under the same umbrella as Mammoth Mountaineering Supply on Old Mammoth Road. All sales are final. This location is a lot bigger & more organized. They offer a variety of items from biking, backpacking, hiking, mountaineering, climbing, & snowsports. Usually depending on the season, but there's a huge selection of ski boots & snowboards. Used outdoor clothing, snow jackets, & even sleeping bags and cookware. They have quite a lot of new winter gloves, base layers, & hiking shoes. For the consignor, you get 75% (check or PayPal) of your asking price if your item sells or 80% (store credit). For the consumers, probably one of the better places to find used or even new gear. Their new gears are 20% off retail price. The guys here are always so friendly & give good suggestions as to where to gallavant in the area. Definitely stop by & check it out. I love sifting through the mid layers and jackets. I've found 1-2 items per visit. As a return to LA stop from Mammoth I'd say it's definitely worth a half hour peruse. Rolled into here to pick up a few supplies before heading north for a few climbs, I should have picked a different store. The inventory here is so-so, most of it overpriced but expected since they're capitalizing on hikers in the region with not a lot of options. The staff is where I decided to take my money elsewhere. I noticed from just hearing the way they spoke to customers they felt the need to act like a superior outdoorsman, the Bradley know-it-all. No, I don't mean the knowledgeable helpful employee, just the "hey brooooooo I'm so cool" type. Was one tall brown haired dorky looking employee in particular who was acting like he was all-important ("bro", you work in a used-gear store, here's a mirror). There's a few other options, Sage to Summit being one of the better options, plus their hours are better. I was passing town and just had enough time to snag some warm clothes, 1. the price are out of this world, literally a used jacket for $200 when a brand new one is from the same brand and style for $280 online, ok you saved $80 with holes, stains and patches included, 2. I noticed the crew is only nice to Caucasian patrons, I saw a couple that was of a darker complexion and full of positive energy and bought multiple items but the attitude they have gotten from the employees was down right rude! Save your money and drive up to Bishop and shop here, because they have some seriously good deals. I purchased a used snowboarding helmet for $5!!!!!!! That is so awesome, I can't get over it. There is a lot to look at, but I was on a mission. If you can come during the off season, your pick is most likely going to be better. Good thrift store for outdoor gear. Like with normal thrift stores, don't go expecting to find any particular thing, it'll depend on what they've gotten recently. There was a bear barrel for $20 that I didn't end up getting because I wasn't sure if I had space to fly back with it, but it was an excellent deal. Expensive and it shouldn't have been. We asked if a $5 toy sled could have a rope tied. We were told for sure and that they had "cheap rope." We asked for about six feet and he said it needed to be longer because he was gonna tie a big knot. He cut a 12 footer which ended being too long and we ended up having to spend $15 for the rope alone. His solution to the long rope: "you can tie it to make it shorter." So we paid premium price on rope for a $5 used toy sled for our 4 year old. What a joke! What frustrates me was the veneer of being helpful while they were fleecing us. read more

This place was awesome! Headed up to mammoth totally unprepared. We needed snow boots and forgot a couple other winter items at home. Tried Walmart, Burlington coat factory on the way and found nothing. We figured we'd have to dump a bunch of money at a store on the mountain. Saw this place on yelp and called and asked if they had snow boots for kids. The guy that answered was super helpful so we stopped by as we passed through. Found amazing deals on used snow boots for both my kids and myself. Also found my son a great used jacket and gloves. Definitely glad we found this place, it saved us a ton of money. read more

Such a great place. This location primarily focuses on used gear, so the selection can be hit or miss depending on what people have brought in to sell. But with a little bit of effort, I've found some amazing deals on really nice stuff. I've also brought some of my gear in for consignment.
