    used arcteryx jacket

Randomly stumbled across this place coming back from mammoth and found a great steal for an Arc'teryx women's jacket for $47!! Super friendly staff and wide selection of used and new clothing! Recommend this store to anyone stopping by looking for snow / bike gear

Really great deal on a tent
    Michael G.

We went to Mammoth Gear exchange because my girlfriend and I were in desperate need of a tent. We had recently spent the night in a cheap Walmart tent at Wild Willy's and the tent was flying away with us in it. In the process of trying to wrestle the tent down I got fiber glass stuck in my hands. I was very fed up with this tent. We walked into the shop and explained our situation and David Elder listened to us and helped us pick out a great used (like new) tent at an amazing price. It had aluminum poles so I would never be in danger of getting fiber glass in my hands again. The tent is also extremely sturdy. While the Walmart tent would shake violently with a slight breeze, this tent withstood hail without so much as moving. And while the product and the price point were amazing, the real benefit of this place was the service. Every other shop just said "what you see is what we have" and wouldn't really help us find what we needed. Here, he took the time to help us find the ideal tent and set it up and actually listen to us. The extra help alone would have been worth the premium that the other stores were charging. Thank you for saving our vacation!

Other than David, the staff were unhelpful. The used clothing and gear are overpriced, dirty, and smelly.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the great assistance and information provided by Mike and Sarah Re: gear. (FYI - They have tons of variety for your outdoor needs AND even have a climbing wall and gym) Purchasing the Leki trekking poles and renting the Snowline microspike/crampons $6/day was FABULOUS! With my poles and the microspikes I felt like an invincible SpiderGirl walking up and down hard packed snow and ice! I LOVED the hike to Blue Lake SO much, I hiked it twice in a row!!! YUP! I'm talking 2 days SAME trail! One of my all time FAV hikes and I've hiked in Patagonia, South Island NZ, Canadian Rockies, etc. If you want some hiking fun at this time of year, drop by Sage to Summit! Buy your trekking poles and rent your microspikes! Totally worth it! I'm thinking of hiking this trail one more time it is THAT cool to hike thru packed snow and ice with those microspikes. FYI - Hike to Blue Lake is about 7.15 miles RT based on how much exploring you want to do! Luckily, I hiked in twice in a row to shoot some photos in different sections. It's a HUGE lake and unfortunately, I don't like waking up early, so still wasn't able to hike further to the middle of the lake area due to lack of daylight hours at this time of the year. Thanks Mike and Sarah! I will return to your shop and recommend you guys too! :0)

Fly-fishing was something I'd been wanting to do for decades and our weekend of lessons/guiding by David resulted in an amazing positive experience for us. David's passion for fly fishing and for the elements that compose the environment where we fished were greatly appreciated. David is not only extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of fly-fishing, but when he learned we have an appreciation of the local environment there too, he gladly shared lots of his knowledge with us. This included the environment and life cycle of the various species of trout where we fished and their food source, trout fishing up in the high country, the many various types of birds and other wildlife in the environment, some ranching history, etc. His local knowledge of where to fish in the Bishop area was on point. Both days we were at nearby locations that were easy to get to and extremely scenic, but with virtually no other fishermen or other people around. David's enthusiasm for fly-fishing was evident from the beginning. We got us geared up and on the water quickly, and his teaching was mostly hands-on with just a few minutes of coaching before we got our lines in the water, then further coaching from there as we progressed. Before long we were catching beautiful and healthy trout. When we'd hook up David was right there to guide us on how to keep the fish on and safely land and release it. As our skills and comfort on the water increased David would introduce new techniques to us and guide us to other close-by spots to wade into and fish. We caught numerous trout of various species both days. He provided all the fishing-related gear to us and everything worked flawlessly. We had minimal snags and lost flies, and when we did he was on it quickly to get us back fishing. His stoke for fly-fishing and the Sierra is contagious and I plan on getting out there again with him. I highly recommend Sierra Trout Magnet!
