Secluded in the foothills near Lone Pine, CA.
    Elise H.

De La Cour Ranch is truly a hidden gem in the foothills not far from Lone Pine, CA. A beautiful lavender farm, producing oil, culinary lavender, fragrant sachets, as well as other homemade products, is nestled in a secluded area surrounded by amazingly, beautiful mountains. When we arrived, we were greeted by a mature young man, in grade school, who gave us a tour of the property, shared his knowledge about the farm and escorted us out to the lavender farms to pick our own lavender, as my dog ran around the grounds. Cole really made the morning special for us by his genuine nature and generous personality. He really added to the unique experience and it's one I would not have ever expected. It set us up for a wonderful day in the mountains. Although we didn't stay overnight, we viewed several of the rustic cabins and without a doubt, plan to go back and stay. This property is off the beaten track and a rare find.

Whitney. We had looked at the menu online and had an idea of what we wanted in advance, nope. Out of: the elk, all lamb, trout, and the filets- we ended up with two orders of top sirloin. I had mine with the mushrooms and my husband had his with the green peppercorn sauce- I guess you can still have the sauces even though the meat is gone. The steaks were ok, I definitely did not get what I wanted and probably wouldn't have stayed if I had known just how bad it would be. I did see others walk out, and people that ordered after me were not happy. There's a really easy way to fix this- daily paper menus with what you actually have. Maybe even update them as things run out. Just cross stuff out. Let the guests know up front. If I had known how limited it was, I wouldn't have ordered a drink and eaten the tasty bread roll. Service wasn't that great either- the person that brought the drinks was very friendly, but otherwise our waiter was pretty inattentive. I had the Bees Knees which I enjoyed, I ordered a glass of red to go with the steak, and that didn't show up till I was well into my meal. Weirdly, I would give this place another shot, but would order before even sitting down. That way when I am told that all I can get is a steak that I'm not that interested in, I'll go somewhere else. Or eat at the bar, have a decent drink and leave when you see how dire the menu selection is.

Although they weren't as busy as the Alabama cafe my husband and I found their food and the atmosphere to be great and actually much better than the Alabama Cafe. I ordered a vegetable omelette. The veges were plentiful and sautéed just right with a great flavor. I asked for a side of salsa and it was super good, obviously homemade and fresh. It came with home fried potatoes which were from freshly sliced potatoes (not frozen) and they were also seasoned perfectly. In addition i substituted fresh fruit for toast and it came with fresh cantaloupe, pineapple and berries, all sweet and delicious. ( Alabama cafe wouldn't allow for substitutes) My husband ordered ham and eggs and he said it was really good as it was a nice thick ham steak and again, great flavor. The cafe felt cozy and comfortable with lots of antique decor to check out. They also sell jars of honey that i plan on buying next time. We will be back for sure on our next trip to mammoth and I hope this review will draw attention to Totems as their food was great and they deserved the review.

She came back and said in fact they don't serve Margarita's. She said she had no idea, and that she didn't even live in the area. What does where she lives have anything to do with anything? I don't want to be mean, but ?? I ordered the 1/2 rack of these "Famous Ribs." My hubby the Flat Iron steak. We asked for salads as the choice instead of soup. We wait and wait...starving after having hiked all over the Alabama Hills. It is customary to get the salad ahead of time, but this young lady was doing other things. Suddenly after 15 min. we got our meals with no salad. She was getting ready to walk away when I asked about the salads. She went and got them not really concerned about it, and was not really understanding. So onto these ribs! I'm traumatized by these things that were so overcooked and dry. What on earth was done to these things? It seems they were boiled, then frozen, then defrosted, and microwaved? Who knows!! I do know this. I have been making ribs for a long time. For the love of God you don't need to kill the pig 15 times! My hubbies Flat Iron Steak was alright. Not completely hideous. Needless to say, there are not many choices in the Lone Pine. This is not a choice I would ever venture to again if in the area.

I find it hard to understand why there are not more reviews about the Lone Pine Film Festival; the…read more26th annual Festival was just last month. My wife, Vickie, and I attended and we had a magical time for three days. It is an event where you wonder what you did to deserve what you are experiencing; mostly put on by volunteers. Sort of like seeing the Ramona Pageant in Hemet, California. We stayed for two nights in our campervan parked in right field of the ball field that the the Chamber of Commerce was renting to RVers. The draw for this location is that most of what you want to get to is within a "block"; or closer. Clockwise around our site: the Rodeo Arena, VFW Post with its Breakfasts, High School auditorium with its three days of film showings, The Film History Museum and its parking lot where the tours operate from. After the closing campfire we camped at the BLM's Tuttle Creek Recreation Site west of town; $5 as I remember; and other BLM land is available to camp on for free. Crystal Geyser has their spring water bottling plant just down the Highway from Lone Pine, in Olancha, and they donated "endless" water bottles to the Festival; it was available "everywhere". Go to the Festival website and see what is available: http://www.lonepinefilmfestival.org/ Below is part of the magic that we found: 11 October 2015: Late to the party; but very happy to have been invited. On the third day of the Lone Pine, California, Film Festival, Highway 395 was diverted around the town to make room for a parade. In a vintage convertible there was a fellow sitting on top of the rear seat back doing something with a rope; "Johnny Crawford" was printed on a card on the side of the car. My wife, Vickie, informed me that this was the kid from "The Rifleman". Later, at the Festival's closing campfire, the Cowboy Poet master of ceremonies persuaded Johnny to come forth out of the shadows of the audience to say a few words. His body actions and words conveyed a very funny and likeable guy; an unexpected cap to an already fun three days. I left Lone Pine thinking that Johnny must be a successful stand-up comic, in the Big City. Back at home, checking on Johnny, I find that he was an original Mouseketeer on the Mickey Mouse Club. Growing up in Burbank, California, I knew something of Mouseketeers. Don Grady graduated from Burbank High with many of us in 1962; as Don Agrati. One of my best friends married a Mouseketeer. I think that like being a Marine, it is "Once a Mouseketeer, Always a Mouseketeer". Then I find Johnny's music and singing for a time period that I already enjoy. This has worked out well, for me. Thank You, Johnny, for bringing beauty and happiness to us; and thank you for coming to Lone Pine!

The museum has really turned out to be a nice place to visit, but the campsites had no hosts unless you wanted to pay the big bucks. Water was no place to be found except Boulder creek & we got ripped off there to get just that for $10 for 10 gallons of Enough said. We had wanted to have a few other relatives enjoy the fun experiences we have had in the past. This so far, has left a very bad taste in all our mouths. I never met Tuly in person because I was in Texas while working on my wedding in California, but that did not impact our communication or the wedding at all. The process was so structured (which I absolutely need) and the website Tuly used to was extremely helpful. As for Charley, WOW. Let's just say my entire wedding party and guests know who Charley is because she went above and beyond!!!!! For the initial venue visit with ELE, Charley came and took notes for me. From the beginning, Charley was wonderful. She is very personable and so easy to get along with. She always arrived before the scheduled time (which eased my anxiety a lot) and started on time with everything. On wedding day, same thing. She addressed questions for guests/wedding party to not interfere with me getting ready. She was so prepared and on top of it. There is nothing Charley did not do! She wasn't paid to decorate, she wasn't paid to serve and cut pie, she wasn't paid to offer water to everyone, she wasn't paid to pour champagne, etc etc etc. But Charley did it ALL!!!! Thank you so much Charley for being so perfect and the Charley that every girl needs on her wedding day. You are such a great person and remember, EVERYONE loved Charley!!!!
