"This is my happy place," at basecamp motel.

Super clean. Sweet and cozy. Small rooms. Excellent neighboring guests. Eat outside on the mesa grande; meet your fellow trekkers and guests at the motel. Clean, quiet, perfect.

We had a wonderful stay at this motel during the pandemic. They have about 8 cabins, you can park right in front of your cabin. Breakfast was included in the price. The front yard is lovely with picnic tables and garden furniture. Our cabin of two queen beds was spotless, super clean and cozy and comfortable. Bedding was fresh and clean. There was a TV, microwave and a mini fridge in the room. The cabin had an AC unit as well. The bathroom was just shower (no tub). Toiletries were provided. We booked this motel really last minute on as we everything was sold out at Lone Pine and Bishop. And am soooo glad we found this motel. The owners were super helpful and friendly and handled our last minute reservation very well. Highly recommend this motel !

Over the years I have stayed here a number of times when I am hiking in the Sierra. I just returned home from hiking the JMT and I stayed at the Mt Williamson when I needed a resupply. Laura Lynn, Doug, and Emmyleigh all make the process so easy!!! My partner and I hiked off the trail and came down to the Onion Valley Trailhead and there was the shuttle driver waiting for us. He drove us to the motel and they had a cold beer waiting for us, our room was ready, our resupply bucket was waiting in the room, and minutes later they were washing my clothes and I was taking a hot shower! The next morning they provided a great hot breakfast and drove us back up the mountain to the trailhead so that we could resume hiking. They even think of little things like providing you with clothes to wear while they do your laundry for you. We especially liked sitting around outside and visiting with all of the other hikers from all over the world. I love this motel and will be back again in the future.

If you're hiking the JMT and need a great resupply resource or if you're passing through and need a good night's rest then try and check-in here! This place does not disappoint. All of the staff including the owner (Strider) are so friendly and accomodating. We just completed the JMT and used The Mt. Williamson motel as our 1st resupply spot. While hiking up, over, and down Kearsage Pass we wondered if we made a sensible decision since it does take you off of the JMT and requires extra effort. But, after staying here and getting treated like royalty with a welcoming free beer, smiles, clean rooms, included shuttle to and from Onion Valley, next-day breakfast, and holding and care of our resupply buckets our doubts were reversed. Also, the rates are very reasonable! Even if you're not doing the JMT and are passing through the small town of Independence I highly recommend doing yourself a favor and staying here. This motel is a no-brainer stay from now on! In fact we stayed here again after completing our Northbound hike and driving from Yosemite.

Time spent at the Mt Williamson motel is like a warm hug. Doug and Lauralyn Hundley have a heart to serve and make your stay as pleasant as can be. Their knowledge and experience with the hiking community is most valuable. The rooms are cozy and spotless. This was my second stay and I hope to return many times!!

The room is small, as expected, but perfect for a solo traveler or couple looking for a clean, comfortable place to shower, cool off, and rest. The AC absolutely cranks, which was heaven after being out in the heat all day. The owners have added so many thoughtful touches: toothbrushes, single-use toothpaste, makeup remover wipes, bath gels, plus a mini fridge and microwave in the room. When I checked in, I was greeted with bottled water, fruit, and cookies, such a kind welcome after a long day. There are also cute patios with hanging lights where you can sit and eat takeout, and there's even a homemade ice cream shop right next door with a really vibey outdoor patio. One of the owners mentioned a nearby trail just behind the motel, and I'm so glad I listened. I ended up walking through the beautiful Mary DeDecker native plant garden alongside a babbling creek with little bridges and an incredible sunset view over the mountain ridge. It turned into one of the highlights of my trip. This place may not look like much from the outside, but it has heart, kindness, and everything you actually need for a peaceful stay.

Love this Motel. They have REAL DOOR KEYS (:-)…read more Been driving past it for years. Can't believe I didn't check it out sooner because it is NOW officially my go to motel in this area. This appears to be a family owned business that includes the MOTEL and MARKET (where you check in) and GAS station. Scott was super nice when checking us in. I actually thought "Wow...how lucky to have him as an employee". Another employee, Wiley was over the top helpful. I love discovering a little gem like this in a remote area without many choices !!! The roofs are full of solar. Love this! There IS a wheelchair accessible room with parking and a ramp and a huge bathroom with safety bars in the combo TUB/shower. This is room 19. It also has a Roku TV which had not been properly set up last night. Wiley, from the store tried diligently to get it set up but we just didn't have the proper logins. So we moved to room 21 with a regular TV. (:-). Room 21 has an awesomely comfortable bed. Something I noticed... that I've never noticed in any hotel...was that not only was the mattress super comfortable but the BEDDING IS SOOOO COZY. I don't know why, but it's the softest snuggly bedding I've ever noticed. I was laying in bed thinking "I'm sooo comfortable". This isn't a huge room but it has huge room counter space. Lots of room to spread out. The bath counter in 21 must be over 6'. Very convenient! Everything was clean and nice. There are plenty of outlets for charging devices including toothbrushes etc. -AC is great -Separate wall HEATER has a separate wall thermostat above the bedside light. -Coffee Maker with coffee -Microwave -Fridge with tiny corner freezer. My blue ice was too large to fit inside but stayed frozen on the shelf under the freezer. If you have small blue ice they will fit. -Hairdryer in bathroom. -Extra pillows -Shampoo etc in shower -Nice bathroom tile floor. This room was obviously renewed a while back. Nice drywall texture etc. It's a minimalist room as to decor, but fully functional and inviting. As for the MARKET...they take their market very seriously. It's literally a mini-supermarket! They seem to sell everything, so if you need anything it's possible you might find it here! If you find this review useful please vote!
