Cute little cabins at the very edge of town under the the towering eastern escarpment of the Sierra Nevada. The place is run like a tight ship. It's very clean. The bath towels are plush and blue, rather than the usual institutional white. The bedspreads have georgeous patterns and the mattresses are comfortable. There are no motel cleaner and perfume smells. One can bring the car right up to the front door, making unloading and loading a breeze. On the downside: Our cabin was small, not a lot of space to move around. There was some traffic noise from highway 395 which abated overnight. The place had a friendly vibe of cyclists, hikers, and outdoorsy folks. We will be back! read more

What a great place to stay, especially if you're a hiker on the JMT! The room was clean and cute. M took great care of everyone, what a worker, she never stops! We got loaner clothes while she did our stinky laundry and a much needed cold drink. We had a fantastic breakfast and the best hiker boxes I've ever seen. I finally met Lone Pine Kurt who shuttled me back to the trail with some great conversation. Highly recommend this hotel, I truly enjoyed it and worth every penny!!! read more

Our stay was awesome. Our room and resupply was ready when we arrived. Our host greeted us with a warm smile and cold beers. We were outfitted with clothing while our laundry was done and we were provided with plenty of recommendations for dinner. Breakfast was excellent and the we were driven back to the trail by none other than Lone Pine Kurt. Everything was smooth and easy. Our room and bed were clean and comfortable. Wonderful gem and a very special place. I enjoyed a two night stay while supporting my husband on the JMT. A sweet, warm and welcoming spot. It was fun to chat with other travelers and hikers over breakfast each morning (served under a beautiful shady tree). We happened to be there when they were doing a pizza night and it was fun to meet some locals and get a feel for the larger community. We had a wonderful stay at this motel during the pandemic. They have about 8 cabins, you can park right in front of your cabin. Breakfast was included in the price. The front yard is lovely with picnic tables and garden furniture. Our cabin of two queen beds was spotless, super clean and cozy and comfortable. Bedding was fresh and clean. There was a TV, microwave and a mini fridge in the room. The cabin had an AC unit as well. The bathroom was just shower (no tub). Toiletries were provided. We booked this motel really last minute on as we everything was sold out at Lone Pine and Bishop. And am soooo glad we found this motel. The owners were super helpful and friendly and handled our last minute reservation very well. Highly recommend this motel ! read more

Over the years I have stayed here a number of times when I am hiking in the Sierra. I just returned home from hiking the JMT and I stayed at the Mt Williamson when I needed a resupply. Laura Lynn, Doug, and Emmyleigh all make the process so easy!!! My partner and I hiked off the trail and came down to the Onion Valley Trailhead and there was the shuttle driver waiting for us. He drove us to the motel and they had a cold beer waiting for us, our room was ready, our resupply bucket was waiting in the room, and minutes later they were washing my clothes and I was taking a hot shower! The next morning they provided a great hot breakfast and drove us back up the mountain to the trailhead so that we could resume hiking. They even think of little things like providing you with clothes to wear while they do your laundry for you. We especially liked sitting around outside and visiting with all of the other hikers from all over the world. I love this motel and will be back again in the future. read more

I loved this motel so much I'm hesitant to write this review because too many people will find out about it. I will start out by saying we were not in the area to do hiking. We were actually there to visit Manzanar. So, this motel isn't only for hikers, and I didn't feel like we weren't welcome if we weren't hiking (though this was December, so it was the off-season for climbing mountains anyway). We stayed in the cabin that they say is most dog-friendly, because it has a fence around it so you can actually go outside with your dog off-leash in the fenced area. I'm not sure if this is year-round, but all of the cabins had twinkle lights on them and were incredibly cute outside. Inside, our cabin was just as picturesque. I was blown away by how thoughtful the owners were. They truly thought of everything you might need and fit it into a tiny, cozy cabin. We had a minifridge, microwave, coffee/tea/hot chocolate station, binder with so much info on the area, lots of information about the motel's policies and available amenities, and even extra sheets to put on the bed so that your dog wouldn't get the nice quilts dirty. We also had a TV with tons of channels. The views around the motel are incredible. It's only a 10-minute drive to Manzanar, and you can also visit the cute town of Lone Pine as well as the Alabama Hills area, which is so cool and a place where a lot of stuff was filmed. We truly loved our stay here and would recommend this place to anyone. read more

Stayed here in 2016 and now again during the pandemic and if you are looking for a cute and safe little bungalow to hide out and enjoy nature this place is a must! We came up to the eastern sierras to get out of the house but we're very concerned with traveling during the 'rona. Mt Williamson Motel fit the bill perfectly and we felt totally safe. Very clean rooms and they aired it out fully between travelers. Maintained safe distance and the owners wore masks (like the only shop owners between lone pine and big pine who seem to be following guidelines!) Our room was dog friendly and there is a nearby little park to walk over to to relax in the shade and toss a ball around to wear your pup out. We have a high risk family member traveling with us so we did not partake in the breakfast but we have before and it's worth it. You will be treated like family. We absolutely will continue to keep this motel on our "must stay at" list when in the Eastern sierras! read more

If you're hiking the JMT and need a great resupply resource or if you're passing through and need a good night's rest then try and check-in here! This place does not disappoint. All of the staff including the owner (Strider) are so friendly and accomodating. We just completed the JMT and used The Mt. Williamson motel as our 1st resupply spot. While hiking up, over, and down Kearsage Pass we wondered if we made a sensible decision since it does take you off of the JMT and requires extra effort. But, after staying here and getting treated like royalty with a welcoming free beer, smiles, clean rooms, included shuttle to and from Onion Valley, next-day breakfast, and holding and care of our resupply buckets our doubts were reversed. Also, the rates are very reasonable! Even if you're not doing the JMT and are passing through the small town of Independence I highly recommend doing yourself a favor and staying here. This motel is a no-brainer stay from now on! In fact we stayed here again after completing our Northbound hike and driving from Yosemite. read more

This place is awesome! On our 15th day on the John Muir Trail, my father and I hiked over Kearsarge Pass to the Onion Valley and were shuttled to Mt. Williamson by Doug (Co-Owner of the Motel). As soon as we arrived we were met with a refreshing, crisp, cold, beer. The staff took our dirty clothes to be laundered and loaned us some as we waited for ours. Our resupply bucket was waiting for us in the room and I was happy to know it had made it to them safely. Our room was clean, cozy, and cool! It was a nice change of pace given we'd been on the trail for a few days. Our beds were comfy and we slept like royalty. On the day of our departure, I realized my sunglasses were missing! These were my favorite sunglasses - the co-owner drove me over to a gas station to get a new pair. When I finally made it home I saw an email from them informing me my sunglasses had been found and the very next day I received a package with my sunny's!!!! THANK YOU! Clean, cozy, cold AC, Wifi, laundered clothing, hearty breakfast, ice-cold beer upon arrival, and a ride to-and-from the Onion Valley what else do you need? Do yourself a favor and book a stay with Mt. Williamson Motel. BONUS: The mountain views are spectacular and it was a joy talking to other hikers staying there. read more

I stayed at the Mt Williamson Motel last week. I stayed there on a resupply night after exiting the JMT Trail at Kearsarge Pass. I had heard about this motel in the past, but had never stayed there. I was 100% happy with my stay and was really impressed with the total experience. We met the owners and they were very friendly and went out of their way to make our experience really special. The room was clean and had everything we needed. I have a bad back and like a good and firm mattress (which most motels won't invest in). The nice mattress made for an excellent night of sleep. The room had everything a hiker could want - coffee maker, shower, refrigerator, A/C, and room to spread out your things and get organized. It was nice to socialize with other hikers and talk to them about what to expect on the next leg of the trip. Breakfast time was especially nice as we all talked about which mountain passes were easy and which required special equipment. I was concerned about getting back on the trail in a timely manner in the morning, but this was not an issue - breakfast was served promptly at 7:00:00 am and the shuttle driver arrived a few minutes before 8:00 am. He drove us up the mountain and we were back on the trail at Onion Valley at exactly 8:30 am. I will stay here again and I would recommend the motel to others! See you next year! Hikerneil read more

The Mt. Williamson Motel owners, Henriette and Paul, immediately make you feel at home. Me and my mum stayed at Mt. Williamson Motel when we went to visit Manzanar. The prices are really reasonable and include a delicious home cooked breakfast. It's a very cozy little no-frills motel with tiny cabins. Our room was immaculate - it's clear the owners take great pride in their motel. Henriette even took the time to show us some of the area's highlights and gave us a map with directions on how to get there. I'd highly recommend Mt. What a sweet little place! The bf and I love little drive up motels and this place with it's cute little cabins worked out perfectly. Don't come here if you are looking for some fancy or super modern digs, but if you want a clean place to sleep in your own little cabin and a nice home cooked breakfast made with love, this is your place. Henrietta and her husband (we missed meeting him, he was recovering from a stroke...boo), obviously love their life here and take good care of their guests. We got a lot of good info and tips for local travel and Henrietta is very kind with a good sense of humor. Bonus for people with pets - your dogs are welcome and there's even a little city park next door with plenty of lawn for poopin'! It's hard to find anything to complain about. Good choice for a reasonable price. We visited dune for sunset and this place is close to the dune so we were able to get back before it was too dark. We Stayed here with my Family January 8th to January 10th Party of 10 + and my Pregnant Daughter (Including in that Party of 10) We had 3-Rooms Cabins 4,5,6 Prior to our Arrival we stated that we would have an Early Check in Driving Straight from Los Angeles We would Arrive by 10:30 am ish Any who I wrote all my Notes down Prior to US Arriving & My Phone Conversation Obviously, Laurelyn did not write anything down (Owner of Motel) The Rooms are Nothing to Be Excited about They were not prepared for anyone to stay in the rooms Some of the Bed Sheets Stained Tan Throw Blankets Full of Dog-Hair (And our Room was not The Dog Friendly Room) But We made the Best of it... (The Only Plus was Pet - Friendly Motel) Other than that, Nothing to Brag about Make sure in Writing you ask Laurelyn all her Rules (She has a lot of Rules) As a Big Family ...... We Do Not Party We Do Not Drink (Everyone is in Recovery from 1 Year to 30 Years Plus) We just like to Eat & Spend Money in the Town & Fish & Hike & Be Together (But of Course, Due to the COVID) There is nowhere to Eat & Sit Down The Motel has a Big Seating area with an Outdoor Heater Outdoor Pit Large Seating area But if you want to Sit under a Heater & Eat your Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner You need to ask Laurelyn for Permission to use anything outside (In her Ad for the Motel, it states that we can use and all amenities) She also told me in a Phone Conversation as well That she likes Families Well that was all BS when we got there...... She also never asked if we needed anything not once Not even Towles not a Peep from her at all And When I asked for Towles & Toilet Paper (She Looked at Myself & My Daughter like we were Aliens) Laurelyn Replied We DO NOT SERVICE THE ROOMS DUE TO COVID "Yelling" I did not ask her to Service the Rooms I asked her for Towles & Toilet Paper So, she gave me Towles & Toilet Paper at our Front Door And Walked away.... Then another Night We just had a Blow Out With Laurelyn We were all trying to Eat our Dinner Outside at Night on the Outdoor Tables (Since the Rooms are Extremely Small & Nowhere to put your Clothing & no where to eat in your room) We put the Outdoor Heater next to US at a Big Table so we all could Eat (Instead, we I got Scolded & Yelled at for moving it so we could eat outside) I had Explained to her There is no Outdoor Dinning in Town And Due to the COVID We would like to Enjoy our Food (She yelled at me & my Daughter, who is Pregnant) That is not my problem... That there is no where to sit in Town... I did not ask you that I asked her to just let US eat as a Family in Peace Instead she kept on... And on...... Just being RUDE !!!!!! We Spent at Least $300.00 to $500.00 a day in the Town On Food & For the Community of this Beautiful Town But for a FACT WE WILL NEVER STAY AT THIS MOTEL If I wanted my Mother Watching Over US I could have just Stayed with my Mom THIS MOTEL SUCKS !!!!!!!!!! Home away from home! What a perfect getaway stay, enhanced by the spacious and well appointed Cabin 7 with full kitchen and comfy couch. This was my third stay here and each time the improvements are noticeable. Who doesn't like a red, white and blue cottage? The art work in the room was lovely but the views of the sunrises and sunsets were spectacular. Doug and Lauralyn treat each guest with the comforts of kindness and service and it is obvious that their guests appreciate their effort to make our stays so enjoyable. Stayed two nights -- great experience. Lauralyn is the perfect hostess -- very thoughtful and hospitable, making this collection of modernized cabins closer to a B&B experience. Excellent breakfast -- scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit, English muffins, coffee and orange juice. We were in the Piaute cabin (half of the "Bunkhouse") -- it has a small but full kitchen with everything one would need to make meals and a living room area that is partially separate from the bedroom and bathroom. The only drawback with the layout is that the air conditioner is in the living room area so there was a 5-10 degree difference between the bedroom and living room temps. We're not hikers anymore, but Mt. Williamson is well suited for backpackers. Lauralyn and her husband have hiked the JMT and can give backpackers the benefit of their knowledge. read more

I've known this place mostly as a repeat PCT/JMT hiker coming off trails and using it for a mid-hike break and a resupply. It's absolutely top-notch for that purpose. But I recently stayed just while driving up 395 on the way home after a trip to Southern Utah. My wife and I found it a great place to stay. As you'd expect not fancy and has what you need (including good WiFi and TV reception). We met and chatted with the new owners. A small cabin-style motel on the southern part of town owned by an very sweet and hospitable older Swiss couple, this place is extremely clean, cozy (some might say small), and if you get a cabin away from the highway, quiet. Views of the Sierra (Mt. Williamson) make it a nice, if not luxe, place to put your head. It's dog friendly, but let them know ahead of time as not all units are such. I'm not a big cooked breakfast person (especially after a lovely big dinner at the Still Life Cafe up the road), but these folks put out a huge spread, with bratwurst sized sausages, eggs, muffins and juice. We drove after work on Friday, so it was late and dark when we got there, thankfully Strider and Daniel were awesome and accommodating! Walking into a lavender scented room was pure heaven and so were the beds. In fact, the beds were SOOOOO comfy, I slept more soundly than I do at home! When you wake up here- you are waking up to spectacular views! The towels- wow!!! Softest towels I have ever used. In fact, I took an extra shower just because I loved the towels so much! Ha! The hotel was built in the 1930's as a motor lodge, rooms 1-5 are small, quaint, and perfectly furnished. Every space in our room was utilized and I loved the rooms. Nicely decorated and everything is new. And Strider makes sure ALL the details and EVERYTHING is perfect. This locally owned motel is the perfect place to stay if you are heading to hike the John Muir trail, PCT, passing through to Death Valley or just like us, want to have a weekend get away. , Strider and Daniel make your stay at Mt Williamson Motel perfect. During season, you will be offered a home-cooked breakfast with your stay. Everyone we met staying at the motel was friendly. We enjoyed walking around town, went to the museum- a short 5 block walk from the hotel, ate at Still Water cafe- a fun (and pretty much only) place in town, went up Onion Valley Road, to Manzanar historical site, the Lone Pine Film History Museum, and out into the Alabama Hills. I stop by this area every year heading up the 395 to Tahoe. This has become my go to stop over for many years but now even more so since the new owners took over. Wow! They took a great, reasonably priced B&B/motel and turned it into something even more homey and aesthetically pleasing place to come. Rooms are simple and decorated in honor of the endangered big horn sheep of the Sierra nevadas. View outside is still amazing. And there are obliging chairs and tables for you to be comfortable enjoying the view. Beds firm but comfortable. Amenities include microwave, ref, electric tea kettle, ac, TV, soap, shampoo and lotion. Big thirsty towels!Rooms have one or two beds. This place is now a base camp for hikers. So breakfast, served at one long table inside, family style, is buzzing with hiker stories during hiking season. But there are places to sit outside, on porch or picnic table, if you need more quiet time for breakfast if it's the busy season. Breakfast is simple egg and one strip of bacon, toast and coffee or tea. Water served upon request, since it's a drought. Think everyone is doing that now. What more can I say? Unless they really up their prices considerably, this will continue to be not only my go to place, but one I can feel good about recommending to others if you are inclined to explore the wonderful hwy 395. read more

Words cannot describe how satisfied I am with the service, rooms, and hospitatlity. The owners make you feel as if you're family. Breakfast in the morning isn't your typical bagels and boxes of cereal. The owners are up before everyone cooking eggs, bacon, English muffins, coffee, hot chocolate for the kids as well as homemade jam. The rooms are very clean, cozy and homey. Reasonably priced, clean and homey. Strider and Dave were wonderful as were the other guests. We were only doing a very short run up to Kearsarge Pass, but we had JMT hikers join us for a nice provided breakfast in the motel dining room. This is an old fashioned, but renovated motor court and each guest gets their own little cabin with bed and bathroom and television. One even has a closed yard for a dog. Our place was spotless and decorated with original art depicting big horn sheep. This was a perfect start to a perfect hike. As a side note, be kind to the though hikers and offer them rides to and from the trailhead. You'll see them along the road to and from Onion Valley. When we were done with out hike, we saw a PCT through hiker. You can spot them a mile away as the very thin and ragged folk frantically search for their resupply stash. Just offering a cold beer to a JMT hiker might make your day and theirs. read more

This hotel is awesome, the rooms were clean and cozy with an awesome view of the mountains. We had been planning on staying the night on our way to bishop, when we ran into car trouble near the hotel. The owner, Doug, is one of the nicest people I've met. He went above and beyond by helping us with our car, letting us stay late while we figured things out, and even gave us a ride 40 miles all the way to bishop. Seriously so awesome and kind of him, he's a really great person and the hotel is really nice too! there's a little shady park right next to it that is nice to hang out at, and the mountains are right behind you as well. If I am ever in the area this will definitely be my choice of hotel. If you are reading this trying to decide where to go, I implore you to pick this hotel, you will not regret it. Great spot for backpackers, hiking, fishing, shooting, or getting some rest. I give this location one hundred thousand stars. read more

I am thrilled that I have found the Mt, Williamson Motel, as I love coming to the Owens Valley often, and this place gives me everything I need! First of all, the fact that they have a cabin dedicated to dogs is a godsend! It has a fence, so you can be totally comfortable letting your pup outside alone. Secondly, they do not spray their cabins with poisonous chemicals! I have asthma and chemical sensitivity, and most hotel rooms that I stay in, make me sick for a few days, The third thing, is that the owners are awesome! We booked this hotel for a stop between Tahoe and San Diego and couldn't have been happier with our decision. The owners were wonderful and it was a treat to hear their story.
