Cool flashing neon sign

We stayed here after a visit to Death Valley. The rates are much less that the other motels located on the main drag though town. Our room was clean with a comfortable bed, cable TV, ironing board, iron, air conditioning, a mini fridge, and microwave. They also provide shampoo, soaps, and lotions. AAA members get a discount.

Stains everywhere

First off just because something is cheaper than its competitors should not give it a better review. Yelp led me astray with this one, although it was less expensive than some of the other post Whitney options it was not even close to worthy of 4 stars. The bad- The bed was rock hard. One of those old school motel mattresses that feel as though you are sleeping on a drum head, taut and stiff. Also the bedding was very questionable (see pictures). From other pictures from years ago I can tell that the same blankets are still used, and they looked very aged. Not sure why I had a roadside dolphin blanket as a middle layer. Also the fact that the sheets were printed means that they can't get bleached..... Stains everywhere. Tiny shower stall, where it was impossible to avoid the water (or turn around) making getting clean post summit very difficult. Terrible lighting, super fluorescent Big one here, the smoke alarm was obviously broken and not functioning (we tested it). The good- Cheap (only by comparison with other Lone Pine places) Away from the highway so definitely quieter. If you are dead tired after climbing Mt Whitney the bed almost doesn't matter, I could have slept on the super outdated carpet and almost not cared. The bathroom was clean as were the surfaces and fridge. Across the street from fantastic breakfast places.

Nice, adequate, clean room

Clean, off the main drag, and quiet. Liked the fact that it was a family running this business.

This hotel was clean, comfortable, quiet (1block off 395 so you don't hear big trucks all night), and very close to good restaurants (Alabama Hills cafe, Seasons, Merry Go Round).

They went over and beyond to making sure I had every need was met during my stay . I stopped in for one night. I ended up staying six days. I explored the beauty in the area. The majority of me staying that long had everything to do with the staff at the hotel, no joke !! So if you're ever in the area and you're looking for accommodations, I would highly recommend staying at the Quality Inn in Lone Pine. I made some very dear friends there and will be traveling back every year for my quiet time after spending weeks time at our family home in Tahoe. On my way home from our families vacation, it is absolutely necessary to take some alone time, in nature to find my peace! Many blessings folks, you will find peace and the beautiful area. You will find kindness in their staff. See y'all soon

First issue, they are renovating the first floor for which I have no issue. The problem? You need to post that online BEFORE folks make reservations. I have mobility issues and there is no elevator. I had to drag my heavy luggage up narrow stairs...very painful. Second issue, problems with their key cards...lots of trouble getting into my room with the digital key cards. Very frustrating. Third issue: their pool is closed in the middle of the hot summer. Post that online BEFORE folks visit and book on your website! Even if it's only temporarily closed. Fourth issue, the water was turned off for over 2 hours during the middle of the day for maintenance. Very inconvenient! Lone Pine is a beautiful little town with charming restaurants but not sure if I can recommend this hotel based on my most recent experience.

The fridge didn't work, which we didn't realize until we had to throw away $60+ in fruit and juices. The shower wouldn't drain and found rolled up tissues in the bed. If all that wasn't enough to complain to management, he woke us up at 4am singing (praying) for an hour in the room next to us where it seems theyre living. Finally was able to fall back asleep around 5am, only to be woken up 30 mins or so later from a VERY loud yelling and shouting phone conversation. Not sure if its worse not being able to understand the conversation, or not. But when we knocked to ask them to be quieter, they came to stand next to the wall to speak even louder! WTF? Lone Pine, CA is one of the most adorable country towns. Its so sad someone would purchase a business and then take no pride in it or the community it belongs in.

We took a room with a shared bath and shower down the hallway. The room itself was nice, we love old historical things. This was in March, still below freezing outside. When we entered the room, the heat was stifling. I was able to shut off the steam radiator, and opened the window In spite of that, the room was almost unbearable all night. The radiator was cold in the morning, so that was not the souce. The room was on the second floor, maybe the rooms below are super hot? The lobby has historic photos of John Wayne and others The shared shower was clean, and we didn't have a wait at 8 AM. Be ware, the tile floor is like ice when it is wet. The room had a sink, so you can brush your teeth and wash your face. A must see is the Western Film Museum, on the other side of the street. Great breakfast at Mount Whitney Cafe across the street. I also highly recommend Seasons Resturant Good steak at very reasonable prices. Would I stay at the Portal Hotel again? Probably not. The room temperature led to very little sleep.
