This comfy, unpretentious motel feels like it's off the beaten path but it is, in fact, just a block from Main Street. It's an easy walk to several nice restaurants, including a local pizzeria. The service was kind and customer friendly and the room was clean and quiet. This was perfect for my plan to take some stunning photographs. The Timberline was my base camp for two days and allowed me very central access to my planned (and unplanned) shots. This is a truly beautiful part of the country with so many sights to see. Manzanar, the Bristlecone Pine National Forest, Alabama Hills movie settings, portal to My. Whitney, etc. I had a lovely stay here and highly recommend this comfy, convenient lodging. read more

I thought this motel was a great find and suspect it has been improved since some of the negative reviews were written (should Yelp still keep reviews from 10 years ago?) It is a block from the highway, therefore convenient yet quiet. Everything was clean and functional. Instead of generic furnishings, it looked like the landlady picked out items that appealed to her, giving my room a B&B touch. The staff entered my room while I was out. When I was walking back to my room after checking out the town, I caught one of the staff members exiting my room. She looked shocked and frantically told me that the freezer in my room was over-freezing?? How would she know that? Why would it need to be dealt with while I was staying there? And why wouldn't I be notified? I didn't believe her. It was completely inappropriate and invasive. I checked all my devices when I got into the room to make sure nothing was tampered with. There were no signs of interference. I genuinely think this motel is cheap enough to have hidden cameras in the rooms. I was on edge all night. Also, ants are a problem. read more

We stayed here after a visit to Death Valley. The rates are much less that the other motels located on the main drag though town. Our room was clean with a comfortable bed, cable TV, ironing board, iron, air conditioning, a mini fridge, and microwave. They also provide shampoo, soaps, and lotions. First off just because something is cheaper than its competitors should not give it a better review. Yelp led me astray with this one, although it was less expensive than some of the other post Whitney options it was not even close to worthy of 4 stars. The bad- The bed was rock hard. One of those old school motel mattresses that feel as though you are sleeping on a drum head, taut and stiff. Also the bedding was very questionable (see pictures). From other pictures from years ago I can tell that the same blankets are still used, and they looked very aged. Not sure why I had a roadside dolphin blanket as a middle layer. Also the fact that the sheets were printed means that they can't get bleached..... Stains everywhere. Tiny shower stall, where it was impossible to avoid the water (or turn around) making getting clean post summit very difficult. Terrible lighting, super fluorescent Big one here, the smoke alarm was obviously broken and not functioning (we tested it). The good- Cheap (only by comparison with other Lone Pine places) Away from the highway so definitely quieter. If you are dead tired after climbing Mt Whitney the bed almost doesn't matter, I could have slept on the super outdated carpet and almost not cared. We stayed overnight at the Timberline Motel on a recent trip from San Diego to Oregon. We got into Lone Pine late, and were looking for a place for the night. We stopped at the Dow Villa at first, however their rates were more than we wanted to spend, so we looked around a bit more and found the Timberline. Even though it was like, midnight, the lady at the front desk was super sweet and helpful, and even got me a better rate by asking if we were AAA. I think our room with 2 queen beds came to $77 total, including tax. They have a small lot on site for parking, however are located off the main drag, and had lots of parking space on the road for our 16' trailer. We parked it next to the curb across the street from the motel, and it was great that the area was not congested and had a lot of space to park. Inside the rooms were great. Clean, comfortable, quiet, I think another reviewer mentioned....so true! The beds were very clean with ample linens, the bathroom had everything needed, and the room itself was cozy and inviting...a great place to stay in Lone Pine! And like I mentioned above, they are located off of 395 so no traffic noise either. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a good, clean, affordable room for the night! read more

This motel is a gem in Lone Pine. It is located one block off of the main road, the 395, so there isn't road noise. The rooms have been updated and it was done very nice. The rooms are very clean. I appreciated the electrical outlets on both sides of the bed located above the bed stands. Each of the outlets have two USB charge connections. The motels location is within a walking distance to food, grocery store and a laundromat. read more

The room was clean and the air conditioning worked. We had free wifi. But in general it made me think of stepping back to the little motels of the 50s. My grandson was shocked as he is accustomed to my usual Marriott chain hotels. I felt the price was high considering room size but it is supply and demand. The town was sold out. We were two, if we had been more we would have been cramped. They do provide a microwave and small fridge. Not sure why everyone gave four stars but maybe I am just spoiled with much larger rooms for about the same price. But cleanliness is important and it was. read more

We had a good night's sleep here, and that's the most important thing we look for when traveling. The room was clean, roomier than expected, and very quiet. The bed was firm and very comfortable as were the linens. The fridge and freezer compartment were large enough to hold all of our icepacks and road food. The one downside was that the curtains didn't completely block the morning light from pouring in around their edges. This is an inexpensive motel that provides a comfortable stay for a fair price. After camping out in the Alabama Hills for a few days and the weather started to turn bad,, we were looking for a motel to stay just to sleep warm and shower. We came across this motel and read the reviews from Yelp and Trip Advisor as we decided to try the Timberline Motel. For the price it was just right for us,, Its clean, has microwave/fridge, clean bed sheets (comfortable not too firm mattresses), clean bathroom with stand up shower, clean towels, flat screen tv with cable, free WIFI (good signal), and the price is right. The room is an average size for just what you need, to sleep, shower, and continue the journey. The location is close to the main street which is nice being off of the main road but walking distance to all the restaurants/downtown area. The staff is a cool family which are very friendly, helpful and kind. I would not hesitate to stay here again.. Happy trails.. read more

Great place to stay when you're looking for a CLEAN and CHEAP place to stay. The office lady was very friendly. The rooms were basic but comfortable and very clean. The beds were also very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again if we were looking for a place to crash overnight. 5 stars for friendliness 5stars for convenience. 4.5 stars for cleanliness especially for a cheap $50 motel. Well worth the money. Oh the shower......wear a full face shield...the nonadjustable shower head is made for people that are 7 feet tall. Booked the Timberline Motel for a few nights before and after an overnight excursion to Mt. Whitney. All the more expensive hotels were booked, and my hiking buddy and I weren't up for the hostel experience. The Timberline's lower price and amenities were just right. The place was clean, they just upgraded the window coverings to wooden blinds (someone had yelped a complaint about curtains). Good air conditioning and WiFi got us through a 100-degree day of rest before our hike. Anita was sooo nice and helpful! Fetched ice for a sore knee, stored our luggage while we went off on our overnight Whitney trip. When we returned and decided to skip our last night reserved at the Timberline, Anita was totally accommodating. Nice place, nice price, nice Anita. This place is what you can expect for a motel that is a 1/2 block off the main road for the dollars you pay. Had a good nites sleep and the rooms were clean. Place is not much to look at as for the area but is good enough for the nite or two and is walking distance to the local shops or cafe. The TIMBERLINE is a small motel in a small town that manages to transcend any inherent limitations in size and locale by offering a inviting atmosphere of clean, comfortable rooms and an extremely friendly staff that goes out of its way to make you feel at home. We highly recommend it as a wonderfully intimate little motel without pretense, but lots of warmth and charm. I have no idea what the rooms are like because they screwed up my reservation and I never got a chance to stay here. I called two weeks before my arrival and spoke to the father of the owner. He said they had vacancies that weekend and took down all my information. When I showed up last Saturday afternoon the owner/front desk clerk told me I did not have a reservation and that all the rooms were booked. She pulled out a piece of paper to check to see if I was the person she was holding the last room for and I could see my name written down with the dates right next to it along with the other names. She still insisted I did not have a reservation (WTF) and became very rude. I'm guessing she does not do a lot of repeat business. I walked around the corner to the Dow Villa Motel. Although they initially said they were booked up, they were able to find me a room for the weekend. The room and the customer service were top notch at the Dow Villa. read more
