Pros: This place is a very well kept roadside motel. It's super clean. There have been renovations such as shutters on the windows, new bathroom counters and fixtures, a new desk, and what looks like new carpet. The owners/employees are friendly and helpful. It's quiet despite being on the main road. Cons: The cleaning product they use is way too strongly scented, despite my poor sense of smell. I opened the windows and front door and ran the fans for about 20 minutes but it wasn't helpful. The toilet looked sudsy so I flushed that, hoping it would help. Nope. The worst part is, my eyes burn because of it. Reading or watching TV is out because my eyes tear up so much when they are open. So I took a nice walk up to the museum to get away from it, leaving my room windows open and the bathroom fan running. This has only happened to me once before in my entire life: when I spent a day in Fresno when they had an AQI of 149. That day, going inside a nice restaurant stopped the burning, so I knew it was the air outside. Lone Pine's AQI today is 8, so it's the air quality INSIDE the room here, not outside. Editing to add: 2nd day the smell decreased quite a bit, 3rd day it was gone. I've stayed here before with noticing any cleaning product smell. I'd chance it again read more

Got off to a late start for Mammoth she we decided to stop here for the night. I was a bit reluctant because it isn't a large chain but they surprised me. We arrived at 10 pm and were warmly greeted. We asked for and we're given a non smoking room. There was ample parking. The room was small, but tidy. It was recently updated with new carpet, lighting, and bathroom fixtures. There was a fridge and flat screen TV, as well as WiFi (a necessity in this area). They had the AC blasting when we walked in ... a little touch for which we were grateful. They have a pool ... we didn't use it so I'm not sure if it's heated. Before leaving we were pleased to see a nice ice machine to fill our ice chest. No bottled water in the room but the tap water is seriously great (not like back home... here the tap water is crisp and without a bad taste). read more

The bottem line is this shin dig wasn't bad. I can't imagine why it has such negative reviews from Yelpers. This town is only so big, after all, it only has 1 street light in the whole town. It's like the town of Baker on the way to Las Vegas from So Cal except this place is actually better than Baker (those who have driven through Baker would know what I mean). The service was great. She identified herself as the daughter of the owners & that she was visiting and helping out for the weekend. She was pleasant, friendly and very helpful. She gave suggestions on where to eat and where not to go. The room was okay for a motel this size and in this setting. The A/C worked well (except it was a tad loud). The room had a small frig and a flat screen TV. The free wifi was great. It had the necessary amenities that one would expect from a mom and pop business. I'd stay here again if I'm ever passing through Lone Pine. read more

Great stay for busy tired hikers. If you want a little cleaner, go to Best Western. Super tiny motel toilet. Watch out men!! The swimming pool is in middle of the parking lot and about the size of my bathtub. I'm not complaining though, because it's just a quick place to get some sleep. Clean, old interior, rock hard bed, especially feminine floral sheets. That was funny. read more

You get what you pay for except when it is summer! We paid $140 ($157 w tax) for a 2 Queen room on the first weekend of August. Checkin was easy and the guy at the front desk was friendly and gave me recommendations for food. Carpet is pretty dirty - don't take your shoes off and the towels are thin but serviceable. Shower was ok - handle was broken so hard to adjust the water and amenities include: shower cap, soap, lotion, shampoo, coffee maker, mini fridge and a microwave. Cups are wrapped in plastic (which I prefer so I know I'm the only one to use it) and some foam cups for the coffee. Breakfast isn't included. There is a nice small pool to deal with the 100 degree heat. Totem Cafe was meh - not recommended. Drive up the WHITNEY Portal road to see some awesome rock formations. It doesn't take long - 10 minutes out of town and you see some very different landscape. AC is very noisy - it kicks in automatically when you set the temperature. But keeping the door closed keeps the highway noise out. Things to do in the area: -Alabama Hills for hiking and some beautiful granite formations. -8 miles to the North of 395 is Manzanar, relocation camp that is excellent for historical value. read more

This hotel is a get what you pay for. If you are hiking Whitney this is a great place to crash in Lone Pine. I stayed during the summer and it was $120 a night for 2 double beds. I actually didn't mind the room. I liked that it had a fridge and microwave. The a/c was very difficult to use and the sheets had lots of stains. Overall I would stay here again (maybe bring a sleeping bag). read more

I would not stay here. We had a hiking trip to Whitney, and ended up getting stuck up there. We called a whole day earlier to cancel and they refused to cancel our booking! Like I was talking to a real person, and explained our situation - that we couldn't descend safely in time to get back, so we wouldn't be there. She just said, "Sorry..." So they just charged my credit card, while we shivered on the mountain that night. And now I have to go through a whole claim process with my credit card. If you're a hiker, mountaineer, or climber. Just don't come here. They don't get it, very unhelpful staff. read more

Ignore the spoiled who demand a room cost $795 and have a spa and golf course. This is old school, vintage travel. Reminds me of motels my parents and I would stay in on our adventures across the states when I was little. Stayed two nights for about $150 each night. The owner assured me at other times during the year rates drop but this is tourist season. Room and bedding was clean, no odors, tv has about 23 cable channels. Comes with a fridge, microwave and simple coffee pot. Sorry spoiled ones... no Keurig here. No stains on carpet and is run by a husband and wife team. He works the desk while she is the maid service. Wi-Fi is available free as is the ice machine. Sorry no room service or lattes here. Walk your fat down the street and grab a pizza or enjoy a great breakfast where the servers smile and greet you unlike here in So Cal. You'll find American flags flying along the sidewalk and no graffiti in Lone Pine. The pool is clean and the kids had a great time in it. It was clean, clear and blue. Other reviewers must be working for the competitors because there was no green, algae filled pool. Wish it had more loungers instead of chairs. Rooms in the main building area face towards the motel parking lot and the street. They have an annex building where if view is important you can get in there but it faces south not west towards the mountains anyway. We got a room that sleeps 5 3 on a giant Cal King and 2 on a Queen! They are very helpful with suggestions for things to see and do and the best places to eat. For us it was Breakfast at The Grill and Dinner at The Merry Go Round Chinese restaurant. Second day, breakfast again at The Grill and Dinner at The Pizza Factory. Both within EASY walking distance from the motel. Enjoy this little bit of time travel and see what our parents would have checked into back in the 50's or 60's. I arrived at 11:15pm and I asked twhat time I needed to check out by. 11:00am no exceptions what if I'm a little later? like 2 hours later? $20.00 fee the clerk was not friendly, i figurered it was just late & she was tired. the next day she was still unfriendly... oh well, i tried... maybe she was having a bad couple of days... a hotel maid did return a smile so that was nice.. the rooms get cold... having an extra blanket helped. the t.v. made things cozy. there was a nice high table to eat food on near the bed. i stopped by the best western & the lady working there was so much nicer... such a warm smile... not to mention the welcoming fireplace in the lobby :-) read more

The amenities were fine for the price, but the reason for the 1-star review is that they charged my credit card twice and refuse to refund one of my purchases. Now I am having to spend roughly 2.5 hours of my time to upload documents, statement, and receipts just to get half of my money back. I am not pleased. read more

My previous review was on the first day we stayed, while the room is OK but expensive for what you get we will not be returning because of management. They banged on my door and demanded what happened with our friends the previous night. I stared at the woman for a moment and kept my composure. She demanded money from me because our friends had an extra person in their room. We were not even in the same building as them and we were here a day before they showed up, how is management holding me responsible for their actions? Rude people. Then the woman tells me that my friends are not suppose to get drunk (we are in town for a wedding) I couldn't believe what I was hearing. read more

This place was awful. The bed was hard as a rock and the staff was not friendly. We had just hiked Mt. Whitney and it was late at night and just needed a place to crash. The AC wasn't working very well at the time (September). And the price for the room was a little ridiculous for the accommodations. At least the water in the shower was hot. I've stayed here 3 times on trips to hike Mt Whitney, and this past weekend was my last. Not much to complain about regarding the rooms since I have low expectations and don't need much, though they could be better considering the price. My complaint is about the woman (owner?) working the front desk and overall treatment upon arrival and throughout our visit. She's not just unfriendly, she's downright rude. Yes, we arrived around 1130 PM, after notifying them we'd arrive late at night. If you advertise that you're open 24 hours, you should be able to accommodate late arrivals. Most of your guests are driving a long distance to get there. If you don't want to stay up, then hire someone else to work the desk on off hours, you're surely charging enough for rooms to afford it. In the middle of the day, our key was no longer working and since the office was closed and no one would respond to the bell, we nicely asked a housekeeper to open our room for us. She was also very unfriendly and from our request to our thank you, didn't say a word. Not sure what it is and it doesn't apply to every one of them, but rudeness seems to be very common among businesses in Lone Pine. Lucky for them, it's the gateway to a lot of great hiking and that isn't going to change. It'd be nice if they realized that the only reason they're in business is the large number of guests that are stopping in or passing through, and starting treating tourists a little better. read more

I was crashing hard, figuratively. I could barely keep my eyes open, and I knew I wouldn't make it another 100 miles that night. I stopped at the most motel-looking place in town (if that's even a thing) and checked in just before midnight. I was checked in relatively quick & at my room in no time. I was initially impressed by the ease of access, coffee, fridge, Microwave in the room. I was later let down by the minor things... the shower handle was falling apart, the carpet was in mediocre condition, the shower amenities (soap, shampoo, etc) were some of the cheapest I have seen. There was a light outside my window in the walkway that illuminated my room. I would have closed the curtains, but I wanted to be able to see when it was daylight. I never knew I cared about those things until they were lacking. read more

First, room 17 is the worst! The mini fridge is so loud it almost drowns out the road noise. So naturally I unplug it., but then comes the real annoyance... beware of the heater/ac. It sounds like a squirrel trapped in a toaster. It was pretty cold when I stayed and went back and forth between turning it on and trying to fall asleep with it clattering, or turning it off and freezing all night. This is a cheap motel. It's clean, but worn. Many things broken or weird. The sink and shower faucets were hard to control (hot/cold but hard to get in-between). One lamp was out and miswired so shocked me when I tried to switch the light. The ice machine is locked up with no access. The blankets are worn. The clerk was unfriendly and mumbled. It's only $15 cheaper than Dow Villa, which was full and a lot nicer. Good points: the place is clean. Rooms have A/C and fridge. On the north side of downtown, so close to restaurants. read more

This place SUCKS!!! They have terrible customer service. My experience here was the worst . First thing when i walked in I smelt sewage. Then I found a cockroach on the bathroom floor and took it to the front office and the lady said those come from out side . Well no fucking duh obviously but they still shouldn't be in the rooms . The phone was broken there was no bible . They didn't have a TV guide . There Ice machine room doesn't have a light so it's dark when your trying to get ice . There pool is green and closed . Our first time staying here because the Dow was full. Room is big but the comforter was stained gross! And the mattress is a brick! Impossible to sleep if you are a side or stomach sleeper. Literally hard as the floor. I asked for more pillows to try and remedy and they would only give me one. Folded up said stained comforter and put under the sheet and slept on top to try and sleep the second night. I should have asked for a refund and moved hotels. read more

Best value compared to the other hotels in the area. Cold pool, ice, vending machine, right next to a Carl's Jr., 3 bars within walking distance... EVERYTHING IS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE! Came into Lone pine around 11:30 completely exhausted from driving for 14 hours. This was one of the first motels the caught my eye. Paid $110 for the night. The office was extremely clean so I thought the rooms would be the same. Walking into the room (#14) it looked ok. I wasn't expecting much since it's a motel. Stains on the chairs. Bedding very old. Carpet looked clean but we kept our socks on. Tore the bed apart didn't see any bedbugs or anything else that would keep me from sleeping in the bed. The sheets are clean. Top blanket not so much or maybe it's stained? Room is dusty and has cobwebs on lights. The room came with a flat screen tv but every channel is very staticky. WiFi was not working. My phone didn't have service so I couldn't let anyone know we were staying at this location. WiFi would've been great. All in all...it's pricey for what is available and the shape the room is in. Also, man at the front desk seemed pretty rude. If we would've drove half a mile down the road there is a best western. read more

Got way less than paid for. Stayed mid-week, mid -Sept. First warning sign: large number of cig butts either side room step. (not just my room) Wanted to take a bath but no type of stopper in the drain. 1st trip to front desk, the clerk did not care that there was no drain mechanism but kept insisting that I needed just to flip lever in tube. "Go back try again" Totally put out I took him from watching TV in side room. 2nd trip to front desk. Again tried to explain to clerk that I even took my phone light to look down drain. Only reply was you want a bath then stick a wash rag in the drain. Room was OK. Stained carpet. With 35 years traveling to forest fires in the west. With the price & uncooperative staff, this place rates as the last resort there is no other motels, you can't drive any more & the only option is napping in your vehicle. For CA, this is a $80 room. By far the worst room I've stayed in, in my 71 years on this earth. Not sure where some of these reveiws come from but it was the worst for us. I have photo's that I wish I could upload (I don't see a place). We stayed in the Annex and I will never step foot into that place again. Town was full and I was exhausted from a long drive or I'd have left, money back or not. Mold in bathtub seams, furniture looked as if it was drug behind a car on the face of the pieces. Walls had paint missing, window screen was all but pried off the window, bedding and rug seemed to be in good condition. Freezer I guessed hadn't been defrosted in several weeks. read more

Spend a night here in March on the way to Death Valley. I made a reservation through Booking.com (the only site has rooms available) only 2 days before my trip, and this motel was one of the last choices. We haven't stay at a motel before, to be honest, since I'm afraid of bed bugs and dirty stuff. But this time I had no other choice. It turned out not bad. We stayed in a newly remodeled room (old furniture tho, but no big deal), which was bigger than I expected (last minute price $120 tax included, no breakfast, on Booking.com). It also has microwave, and a small refrigerator. The location is very good, 10 minutes from Alabama Hills. There is a tacos truck right across the street, which has awesome beef tacos and quesadillas. I didn't really talk to the owner or any staff that much, so I don't have any comment about their customer service. read more
