Great place. Quiet, good value, free snacks, comfy bed. Very clean and staff responds to text requests very quickly and they're very nice.

Don't judge this place by the outside - this little motel ended up being exactly what I needed…read moreafter an intense hike. The room is small, as expected, but perfect for a solo traveler or couple looking for a clean, comfortable place to shower, cool off, and rest. The AC absolutely cranks, which was heaven after being out in the heat all day. The owners have added so many thoughtful touches: toothbrushes, single-use toothpaste, makeup remover wipes, bath gels, plus a mini fridge and microwave in the room. When I checked in, I was greeted with bottled water, fruit, and cookies, such a kind welcome after a long day. There are also cute patios with hanging lights where you can sit and eat takeout, and there's even a homemade ice cream shop right next door with a really vibey outdoor patio. One of the owners mentioned a nearby trail just behind the motel, and I'm so glad I listened. I ended up walking through the beautiful Mary DeDecker native plant garden alongside a babbling creek with little bridges and an incredible sunset view over the mountain ridge. It turned into one of the highlights of my trip. This place may not look like much from the outside, but it has heart, kindness, and everything you actually need for a peaceful stay.

I checked in late at night and Prince made the process quick, professional, and friendly. Parking was plentiful and easy -- no hassle getting to my room from my car. It was quiet all night too, which I really appreciated. I'd definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others.

We had a nice one night stay here. Staff were all lovely, room comfortable, grounds well…read moremaintained, nice breakfast buffet. This motor lodge offers a variety of room styles. Each room has it's own entrance from the parking area with assigned parking close to the room. Our Queen bed room included a small table and two side chairs. Table could be used for dining or as a desk. Plenty of plugs bedside. Large TV, large dresser and closet with iron/board. No luggage rack, but a padded bench at the foot of the bed would work. Room is 'tight' so not really room for open luggage in general. The bed was very comfortable with nice linens and a variety of pillows. The heating/cooling worked quite well without a lot of noise. Floors are carpeted. Room had a small fridge with the coffee maker and ice bucket in the bathroom. Multi-use products in shower and by sink. Hot water was quick. Everything worked. Bathroom was clean. Towels were older, but clean and in good repair. The ice machine is in guest laundry on the far right side (away from the office side) of the complex. Two dollars per wash and two dollars per dry. Soap dispenser and beverage vending here as well. The outdoor pool is large with plenty of lounge chairs and seats. Some in the shade. The area is kept clean and tidy. A grassy area by the office has tables and chairs for all guests to enjoy. Breakfast daily 6am-9am off the lobby. Buffet includes hot foods, toaster items, cold cereal, coffee and juice. A staff member is available to keep items stocked and the space tidy. The lobby has a small seating area and market place.

We came at a time that most hikers have probably finished so it was a bit busy but the wait was definitely worth it. Very disappointing experience -- overpriced and poor quality…read morePrices have gone up significantly, while the quality and cleanliness have gone down. I come to the Mt. Whitney Portal area every year, and unfortunately, this was one of the worst experiences I've had. The condiments were left out for everyone to grab, tables were not clean, and there seemed to be very little attention to sanitation. When I asked about it, the explanation was that "it's been like that since COVID," but that doesn't make it acceptable, especially years later. The food was also extremely overpriced for the quality. We paid $39.98 for two chicken sandwiches without drinks--one crispy chicken sandwich that was extremely spicy and a grilled chicken sandwich with lemon pepper. Neither was enjoyable, and we ended up throwing the food away. My recommendation: Eat in Lone Pine before heading up to Mt. Whitney Portal. You'll likely find better food, better value, and more options. Unfortunately, I felt like we wasted our money here. I would give less than one star if that were an option, but I'm sharing this review because I hope it helps other visitors make an informed decision.

Whitney T-shirt and a mug. We liked the fries. The outside seating areas were good; move away from the store to avoid yellowjackets (wasps). In early October, enjoy the fall colors near the store and across the Eastern Sierra.
