Even though the motel was renovated and had fresh paint, carpet, and other amenities, I was unsatisfied with my stay. AC is loud, and it is impossible to sleep at night if you are a light sleeper. If the AC is off, there is no air circulation at all. Pillows were extremely flat and uncomfortable. The hot water in the shower lasted 15 minutes. How should someone wash themselves in 15 minutes after a big hike? What if I need to take a bath? Not enough soap and shampoo. There is not enough parking. Some guests had 2 cars for one unit, and they took 2 spots. So, if you come late, you will be forced to park on the street. It's unfair. read more

I must admit I am a huge fan of being able to plug everything in so the abundance of charging locations bumps this from 4 stars in its price range to five stars for me. Bed is firm but still comfortable for a side sleeper with a hip replacement. (:-). The pillows are heavy and firm. We require soft goose down pillows so we always bring our own. AC was excellent. Booked last minute coming off 14-day JMT hike. Wanted the Dow, but it was full and this one seemed conveniently located to ESTA stop where I had to catch the early AM bus. Very clean, comfortable, reasonably priced room. No hassles getting laundry done (but they only have 1 machine). Didn't try the pool but was clean and orderly. Very walkable town, so had no problem getting out to eat and pick some stuff from the store. Recommend. read more

Trails Motel is fit our needs. We wanted a place about 2/3 into our drive to California. We arrived, checked in, a little concerned about parking since we didn't see any empty spots but he clerk said we could park on the other side of the pool. Kinda sketchy since it was right off the sidewalk, but it worked. The room had the essentials and a few perks-microwave and refrigerator, iron and ironing board, desk and chair and an extra pillow ( good since hubby left his at home, lol) The bed was comfortable, the tv had plenty of channels ( direct tv) and the AC worked well. The room was a little stuffy when we arrived so we opened the window for a bit. We could hear road traffic and I couldn't hear neighbors either. We have stayed several times and recently booked two rooms for a Friday night. Fifteen first-floor rooms in three blocks, arranged in a U-shape facing the road. Semitrucks drive US395 all night long on a weeknight, so rooms near the road get some road noise. For a quieter room, ask for one at the end of a row - fewer neighbors. You might like to ask for a mountain view: on a clear day, see Mt. Whitney from your room! Exterior walkways. Each room has a metal door, which is not obvious until you see the do not disturb sign: a fridge magnet. Everything in each room worked. Each room was clean and well arranged. We liked using the remote control for the wall-mount heating / cooling unit. Fast Wi-Fi, about 50 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload when most of the guests had left. If you have a Tesla, park at the Superchargers that are a minute's walk from the hotel. read more

I spent one night at Trails Motel during a busy Memorial Day weekend. I received a very warm welcome at the front desk, friendly conversation. The lady even stepped outside to show me where to park and where my room was. That kind of special attention is rare to find. My room was SUPER CLEAN. Everything was in its place, from the toiletries to the coffee machine to the USB outlets. This motel must have been remodeled recently because there was not a dent, not a scratch anywhere in the room. I love the tiger blanket on the bed! The minor downsides - Bring your own toiletries. their micro soap bars are horrible. I showered using a shampoo packet as soap. Ladies, either forgo makeup or bring a lighted makeup mirror. The mirror over the sink is too far away to see what your putting on your face. The heating / cooling unit in the room does not have a fan control beyond low and high. It was a warm summer night and the room was a bit stuffy but the fan blew so loud no way could you sleep through it. I stayed here for 2 non-consecutive nights - 1 night prior to my ascent of Mt. Whitney, and then another night after I completed the hike 2 days later. The staff (I think husband-wife-son team) was very friendly. They even let me park my car at the end of the building on the property while I was hiking. While I'd love to give this another star, I just have a difficult time doing that for the amount I paid for the room. I just didn't feel the value was there for the money I paid. So what could've brought the value up? Well, first, let me say, the room was clean-ish enough. I didn't find anything blatantly dirty or unsanitary, but there were a couple of resident roaches in the bathtub, so who knows where else they (and how many of their friends) may be hanging out in and around the room. The accommodations were basic (bed, sink, toilet, bathtub-shower, TV) with a few (on paper) perks like an in-room refrigerator, air conditioning, ironing board and iron. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were okay. But here are some things where I felt greater value in the amount of money I spent: 1) The linens and towels and washcloths were about mid-range Walmart quality (which is to say not the softest things in the world); 2) The hot water was hot, but the cold water was luke warm - which wouldn't have been so bad if it didn't take the refrigerator a full night to chill a 1-liter bottle of water and a 3-liter water bladder. 2-3 hours in the fridge and the water was just slightly cooler than when I put it in; 3) Ironing board and iron really - imo - is unnecessary given the demographics of the people visiting Lone Pine. I THINK many of the people there are not business people needing to press their suits. They're outdoors people, heading to the top of Mount Whitney - they're not ironing their clothes or tent or sleeping bag; and 4) The air conditioning unit was an in-wall type that was obnoxiously loud where - not only was my unit bothering me - but also the units from neighboring rooms as well. They're so loud and could be heard all night. By setting a temperature on the unit, the air conditioner cycles throughout the night to maintain that temperature (at the location of the wall), but the fan runs every minute of every hour. This just seems obviously and wholly inefficient. I would be the regulator and wake up to turn the a/c on or off, depending on the room temperature. I did see that they had a swimming pool and I saw 1 or 2 guests using it, but I didn't have the chance to. Would I stay here again? Maybe. Three stars means "if I had to, I would," but I'd likely look for someplace else first. There's nothing BAD about the place. But, for the money, there are more things that could've (or should've) been better in my opinion. read more

You guys, this isn't the Hilton, or even the Days Inn. Its a motel. The rooms were dated, but the bed was comfortable, the sheets and the bathrooms were clean, and they had a coffee maker. Wifi is also available, but we were too tired after our day hike to the Whitney summit to use it. No frills, but it may have been the best shower I've ever had. They also had these welcome sample packs that had cliff bar crunchiness and gum. Not bad at all, and it looked a lot less shady than the other motes in the area. read more

BED BUGS. After checking in, we went to our room and started unpacking our things, as we were planning to stay for 2 nights. My boyfriend discovered a bed bug crawling up his arm. Upon closer inspection, three other similar bugs were spotted in the sheets. We immediately re-packed everything, went to the front desk, and advised the woman working the front desk that we had seen bed bugs in the bed. Instead of: 1. apologizing; 2. offering a different room; or 3. offering a refund, she insisted that it was "not possible" that they had bed bugs, as the room had "just been renovated." In fact, she was quite rude about it. We had to find another hotel (which charged us twice as much because of the late notice). Trails Motel ultimately (begrudgingly) refunded me for one night, but not both, which is astonishing, since (aside from the obvious bed bug issue) we didn't even stay one night and we left within 30 minutes of checking in. read more

I checked into Trails based on the good to moderate reviews on Yelp. The staff was nice enough and room was a little dated but appeared fine. However, once I got into the bed, I discovered that the room (room 11) had BED BUGS! The staff did not seem surprised when I demanded they reverse the charges and moved to a different place. That incident alone makes Trails entirely unacceptable in my book. read more

Not too happy with them. We stayed there last weekend and told the older gentleman that we were very unhappy with our stay. First off, there were a bunch of jumping bugs on the kitchen sink. Secondly, the bath tub was stained blue and dirty so much so that a couple of guys who were filthy dirty didn't want to shower. The worst part was the next morning our friend washed his face and grabbed one of the "clean" towels and there was blood on the towel. I walked over and told the man at the desk that we were very unhappy and asked for a discount for the disgusting situation and he told me the manager wouldn't be in until Wednesday (it was a Sunday) and he took down my info and I haven't heard anything.
