They made an error during our check in and I was not happy about it. The front desk agent called me while we were out for dinner and had it corrected. We were satisfied with the rooms comfort and amenities in the newer 1957 section.

Each room has it's own entrance from the parking area with assigned parking close to the room. Our Queen bed room included a small table and two side chairs. Table could be used for dining or as a desk. Plenty of plugs bedside. Large TV, large dresser and closet with iron/board. No luggage rack, but a padded bench at the foot of the bed would work. Room is 'tight' so not really room for open luggage in general. The bed was very comfortable with nice linens and a variety of pillows. The heating/cooling worked quite well without a lot of noise. Floors are carpeted. Room had a small fridge with the coffee maker and ice bucket in the bathroom. Multi-use products in shower and by sink. Hot water was quick. Everything worked. Bathroom was clean. Towels were older, but clean and in good repair. The ice machine is in guest laundry on the far right side (away from the office side) of the complex. Two dollars per wash and two dollars per dry. Soap dispenser and beverage vending here as well. The outdoor pool is large with plenty of lounge chairs and seats. Some in the shade. The area is kept clean and tidy. A grassy area by the office has tables and chairs for all guests to enjoy. Breakfast daily 6am-9am off the lobby. Buffet includes hot foods, toaster items, cold cereal, coffee and juice. A staff member is available to keep items stocked and the space tidy. The lobby has a small seating area and market place.

Liked the solar farm on their property east and south of the hotel! A good basic breakfast in a small downstairs room. Minor issues: 1 The faucet is set a long way back over the sink, so you tend to knock your hands against the sink while washing them. 2 Bathroom door squeaked. 3 At the south end of the hotel, the doors opened from the inside. I could not open the first floor door or the second floor door from the outside with my room key. They said they would fix the door locks. 4 We swiped the key to enter the room. When they renovate the hotel, I hope they change to a key that you can tap on the door lock to enter. Those are easier to use especially if you can keep the key in the wallet and tap the wallet on the door.

carne asada fries here were so delicious. i'm from los angeles and i gotta say they did it so well…read morefor being a little mountain resort restaurant. i loved the contrast of the creamy green cilantro crema with the red chipotle crema on the perfectly tender carne asada, which i'm pretty sure was meat from the famed harris ranch of california. the fries were so perfectly crisp and the beans, cheese, etc all complemented the flavors so nicely. we also tried the apple and berry pie. it was well done as well, got one slice a la mode with icecream :). the workers here are so nice and personable. real friendly people, we loved this young man i forget his name but he was from georgia or something. they sell a lot of cute souvenirs in here such as apparel, candles, postcards and stickers branded with mineral king. they also sell backpackers dehydrated meals and little toiletries and drugs you may have forgotten. always make a trip here when i'm around. love it. they also have showers attached to the bathroom and you could just walk in and take a shower after a lil hike ?? maybe :)

But as SOON as I walked into the room (#4), I was smitten. There is a palpable 'peace' here. It had everything we wanted; a CLEAN spotless room, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, peace and quiet, quality cotton sheets AND a mesmerizing 50s TIME WARP! Bottled water, and other treats were also available. There is a resident, skunk named 'Princess', who pals around with the local cats at night. She has never sprayed anyone (said the departing 'Music Club' members. . . they ought to know, right?). Then after being informed, the HIGHLIGHT of my stay, was IMMEDIATELY seeing her at the bottom of the stairs! When she caught me staring at her, she scampered under the pool fence & disappeared into the garden. . . Soooo cute! I would come back in a heartbeat. . . JUST to see Princess! ;)

It was perfect and cozy and had a coffee & tea station with fresh coffee beans. I'm so happy I was able to book a place for us to sleep while we explore Sequoia National Park and forest. Some more pros: -Directly across from a nice restaurant. -Awesome small town vibe. -Easy check-in, with friendly front desk. -Clean, well kept, nice touches. -Beautiful big yellow tree outside our window (we visited in December 2023. -Kaweah River on property with tree swing, ducks, cattle/sheep views in the mountains in the morning. It was the best part of my trip. -Comfortable beds, clean sheets, fresh towels. -It had all the listed amenities. -Reasonable rates especially compared to everyone else in the area. -I recommend this place for family or romantic getaway. I would DEFINITELY book here again because I'm simply in love with the beautiful forest surroundings.

Very disappointing experience -- overpriced and poor quality…read morePrices have gone up significantly, while the quality and cleanliness have gone down. I come to the Mt. Whitney Portal area every year, and unfortunately, this was one of the worst experiences I've had. The condiments were left out for everyone to grab, tables were not clean, and there seemed to be very little attention to sanitation. When I asked about it, the explanation was that "it's been like that since COVID," but that doesn't make it acceptable, especially years later. The food was also extremely overpriced for the quality. We paid $39.98 for two chicken sandwiches without drinks--one crispy chicken sandwich that was extremely spicy and a grilled chicken sandwich with lemon pepper. Neither was enjoyable, and we ended up throwing the food away. My recommendation: Eat in Lone Pine before heading up to Mt. Whitney Portal. You'll likely find better food, better value, and more options. Unfortunately, I felt like we wasted our money here. I would give less than one star if that were an option, but I'm sharing this review because I hope it helps other visitors make an informed decision.

I love Kernville and the surrounding valley. We were just looking for something nice and quiet with…read moreno frills. We found exactly that at Whispering Pines Lodge. It's very easy to find and within reasonable walking distance to many of the local stores and eateries of Kernville. I'm not typically one to stay in my room all day although the nice AC makes it tempting. We were able to go up to the mountains the entire day and come back and jump in the pool at Whispering Pines. The pool is very clean with a gorgeous unobstructed view of the mountains. The front office staff were very kind and friendly and quickly checked us in to our room. We stayed in room #103 which is very cozy with a kitchenette. The room was nice and clean and we even had a deck out the back door to look and listen to nature. There's no real designated parking spots for individual rooms so it's first come, first served. It gets very hot in Kernville so I would highly suggest parking in the few precious spots in front of the pool fence which give more shade throughout the day.
