The food here is excellent, and the price point is, too…read more I had the meat lovers taco, and ordered two of them, only to find out that one (at less than $8) is really like a double taco, with two tortillas. So I ate one, splitting the meat and pico across the two tortillas, which was really ample and delicious, and took the other home for later. My only complaint is that there was a line at the counter when we walked in, and because of that we didn't realize they had menus on the counter. We sat down at a table, and with no QR code or other way to look at the menu, we pulled out our phones and were trying to do it online without much success (several sites had difference versions, and with no descriptions). It wasn't until a staff member came out from the counter and asked us if we were okay that we explained this, then she brought us some menus and was super-helpful. My husband had a beef burrito, served with rice and beans, and also said his was excellent. One other bonus - root beer as a choice in the pop dispenser! Yum!

They've always had good wings with creative sauces but at the time the beer selection was pretty lame, the decor and wait staff not particularly impressive and nothing we tried food-wise besides the wings impressed us. Cut to the visits I've made since PopUp lost their (3rd party) liquor license 6-8 weeks ago. It drove me back and I e since found the beer selection has improved immensely, the hired help seems a bit friendlier and the summer special chicken salad sammich (all by itself) is my new obsession! How times have changed. Not sure if joining UnTapped had anything to do with it, but they now have 16 taps - mostly craft beer always incl a cider and Guinness. They have a plethora of sports, etc. on a plethora of TVs, darts and gaming, an expansive food menu. And while the wings still rock, it's the chicken salad on warm cibatta bread is one of the best true sandwiches, and best deals at $8 with homemade potato chips, in town. Eyes opened.

I was in Bloomington on business because why the hell else would someone choose to go there. It's not a bad town, not at all, but it's five hours away from my favorite person. She thought about joining me but her business kept her in Des Moines. This would be the fourth time that I visited a JJ's, my third here in Bloomington. My other visit was to the JJ's that was briefly located in Merle Hay mall in DSM but unfortunately it didn't make it. Location is everything. If your looking for healthy, then JJ's should not be on your radar. If your looking for delicious, well then you've found it. A little over halfway in my drive from Des Moines to Bloomington, my boss called me to remind me of my past travel indulgences and to "take it easy" with the expense report. He knows that I am fan of lower end hotels in the seedier parts of town and normally higher end restaurants yet felt compelled to mention that he could certainly afford a steak or two. JJ's doesn't serve steak but they do serve fried catfish and chicken wings which are two of my favorite foods and at very reasonable prices. When I finally arrived in Bloomington and checked into the hotel, I was met in the lobby by my right hand man "Stones" who was still recovering from a pretty serious injury but wanted to get back to work even though he was somewhat limited. He was ready to eat and wanted to go to the place that I hate almost as much as genital warts and it was barely after 5 pm at this point. "Go right ahead. Enjoy yourself. I've got a few personal things I need to take care of then I'm going to JJ's" A few phone calls later and I'm driving through parts of Bloomington that I probably shouldn't be in, procuring things that I probably shouldn't be procuring but what is life if not one big adventure. Judge me all you want but I'll tell you this. The drugs that my doctor has me on are far, far worse then any pharmaceutical enhancements I may enjoy. When I arrived at JJ's it was pushing 9 pm and there was a gentleman at the counter waiting for his order who sat down at a table when I walked in. I was greeted immediately but took a few minutes to look at the menu which is posted in the wall behind the counter. Not really sure why I did because I already knew what I wanted, a 2/4 combo (2 catfish fillets, 4 wings) and breaded mushrooms. A few things that you should know about JJ's 1. It smells like grease. It doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to figure this one out. Just about everything is deep fried and why wouldn't it be. Remember it's deliciousness that we are seeking. 2. This isn't fast food so be prepared to wait. Everything is prepared as it is ordered so be patient. and 3. Be prepared to answer the question "Would you like lemon pepper" multiple times with an enthusiastic "Yes I would, thank you" I excused myself to the boom boom room while they prepared my order and dearsweetbabyjesus I was almost knocked out by the fog of stench that filled my nostrils when opening the door. It smelled like Miley Cyrus took a colossal dump after being tag team fisted by Mel Gibson and Hulk Hogan. How it hadn't wafted out into the dining area was a miracle unto itself. I said nothing when returning to the counter after doing my business and they were just finishing up my order. "Sir, would you like lemon pepper" "Yes Sir I would, thank you very much" I paid my bill and took the food back to the room with me but not before stopping at the c store and grabbing a couple packs of Pall Mall orange talls, and a 3 Dt Dr Peppers. It was all delicious and the hot pepper cheese balls were absolutely the right choice. No fork or napkins in the bag kinda pissed me off so I had to eat the coleslaw with my pocket knife because I was to lazy to walk the 50 feet from my room to the lobby to grab one. JJ's is one of those places where you're either a fan or you're not. There is no middle ground here. I'm a fan. My cardiologist and colon, not so much. 4 nonne magnus est vita mirificus

We arrived in the late afternoon for an early dinner. We were seated quickly, clean tables pleasant atmosphere and fun surroundings. We started with the vegetable samosas. We received three....fresh and hot out or the fryer.....took a few minutes to be able to handle. They were fantastic accompanied with a light and flavorful dipping sauce. Our food order consisted of an order of Birria Tacos, Afghani Chicken and a Ramen Bowl with chicken. As you can see from the pictures of each dish.....the presentation is pure art. The portions were large enough for us to share. Absolutely flavorful and no one ingredient over taking another.....pure masterful cooking. My Ramen with chicken was the best I've had in a very long time......I will be back! What a gem this restaurant is, fresh, flavorful and attention to the smallest details.

Pulling up upon arrival I was completely disappointed when I learned that they are running 2 menus out of this location and let's just say that at first sight, the outside is beat up and tired looking and it's obvious that the place has a lack of management. Walked in and no one was at the counter to order, because this is a work-aurant as you would call it. Menu isn't great and neither is the food. Place is very dirty and gross and surprised it's still open. Got 2 double cheeseburgers with everything on it and some fries and a drink. Also got an order of cheese curds. No booze is being served anymore at this Location like they lost their liquor license. Last time I was here full bar serving drinks. So fetching your own soda while workers are hanging out next to the soda machine eating food and goofing off. Food showed up and at first sight, the burger looks ok. Closer inspection and the burger didn't have any crust and zero "lacing" as they call it when you make a smash burger. That's cuz the grill guy is lazy and didn't let the burger cook after he smashed it- Again lack of management to fix these issues. Fries were beyond gross and looked like something you get at a school cafeteria- undercooked looking and no seasonings. Bathrooms were beyond disgusting and the water was running in the sink and unable to turn off. Not a great place to spend $60 with tip..... I'd say go somewhere else that actually cleans their entire property instead of just wiping down the tables and that's it. Won't be returning....
