We are a big fans of Tony's tacos and I've been a customer over there for many years. However, I have never ordered online previously. I always simply go to the store order my tacos and wait and sit until the tacos are ready, which usually is less than 12 or 13 minutes. However, this time, I went to the trouble of ordering online from home, and then showed up at their Normal restaurant to pick up my Tacos 20 minutes later and they had not even begun preparing them. May have to do with what's going on in the US labor market, but I do notice they're hiring new, young employees. So be forewarned about ordering online. read more

Wow! If you've not been to Tony's Tacos, you're missing out! It's the perfect place for authentic Mexican food prepared with care! Not pretentious, but a great place to gather for a fun time and awesome food. You have to try the Birria tacos if you've never had them. The tamales and enchiladas are outstanding. Have the chips and salsa with some guacamole and added sauce options from the sauce bar. Oh, and I have to recommend the margaritas! Top notch! The food here is excellent, and the price point is, too. I had the meat lovers taco, and ordered two of them, only to find out that one (at less than $8) is really like a double taco, with two tortillas. So I ate one, splitting the meat and pico across the two tortillas, which was really ample and delicious, and took the other home for later. My only complaint is that there was a line at the counter when we walked in, and because of that we didn't realize they had menus on the counter. We sat down at a table, and with no QR code or other way to look at the menu, we pulled out our phones and were trying to do it online without much success (several sites had difference versions, and with no descriptions). It wasn't until a staff member came out from the counter and asked us if we were okay that we explained this, then she brought us some menus and was super-helpful. My husband had a beef burrito, served with rice and beans, and also said his was excellent. One other bonus - root beer as a choice in the pop dispenser! Yum! read more

Been a while since my last visit and the prospects of $1.50 steak tacos for National Taco Day was the bait I needed. Late in the lunch hour the place was pretty crowded (predictably including several hungry college guys) but I noticed pretty quick the change to the place from a traditional table service model to counter service. It was spacious enough with 12+ mixed sized tables where diners can park for the two big screens of pretty authentic Mexican fare. This was not a day to branch out with one of my old fave hurraches, this day was all about the asada! As pictured although smaller than usual, these 3-4 bite beauties were crisped and flavorful with not too much onion and cilantro. This becomes more important here now that a salsa/toppings 'buffet' has been set up along the back wall. Three or 4 salsas, pico, pickled/no -pickled veggies like cactus radish and jalapeños. Given the size of the tacos I must admit to loading up a bit and really enjoyed the mix of textures and spicy flavors. I was also happy to find a selection of (mostly) Mexican beers (or glass bottle Coke) behind that counter, available to wash it all down. So while it seems like we already make or eat tacos twice a week, we need to make sure to squeeze this place back into the rotation! 4.2-stars read more

It seemed weird to eat tacos at a joint practically attached to a gas station, but I was pleasantly surprised. The chicken burrito my boyfriend and I split was moist and flavorful. It didn't need any additional seasoning, but it seemed like a shame NOT to try their sauce bar. I got a delicious tomatillo salsa that complemented the chicken well. The meat was juicy! Gross. Bland. Disappointing. Our family stopped here on the way home from a road trip. It seemed like a quaint, quick stop. Lettuce on a cheese quesadilla? Yuck! The lettuce ended up mushy. Went to cheeks bar and grill last night, Tony taco truck was there, band was playing their music. Got hungry so I stood in line and got some chicken nachos with a sprite. As I was enjoying it I saw a quesadilla that someone else had and thought maybe I should have ordered that, then a burrito walked by, really thick and I thought again I should have gotten that. Tony's is a strip mall, order at the counter, run of the mill Mexican restaurant. I ordered the 3-taco dinner . . . since I was in a "Taco Place" Everything about the meal was bland. I ordered ground beef, shredded chicken and brisket tacos with a side of rice. The corn tortillas - Bland. Ground beef - Bland. The shredded chicken was OK. The brisket was like shoe-leather and couldn't eat it. There were 2 tvs overhead on different channels and music piped in. WOW! Sensory overload! Counter person was pleasant. No one ever stopped by the table to check on how my meal was going. Meal was just under $20! Will not be back. read more
