I stopped by here for a quick bite during this happy hour. I got the Philly handpies, rib taco, and I believe the drink was elephant & flowers. All of them were 10/10 and very filling. I see why they were Michelin recommended. Because I went during a slow time the service was really fast. The server, who recommended the dishes and drink was awesome. The taco looked and tasted delicious, I didn't get the chance to take a picture.

Loved this dining experience. My first visit, I came for the tasting menu and it exceeded my expectations. I cant wait to try the the tasting menu for the next season. Next visit, I came and sat at the bar for happy hour. Another great experience. Excellent customer service, gorgeous decor, low key but upscale and classy vibe. The clarified cocktails are a MUST try. Can't wait to return for another visit.

Listennnnn Late August is great! If it's on your list, move it up. If it's not, add it. I was hesitant to check them out initially because their ties to Lucille's, which I didn't enjoy initially. Now I'm ready to give Lucille's a second chance after coming here and meeting Chef Chris. Impeccable service started at the door. Literally the second we walked in. Melissa, who I later found out is the GM, is great and really cares about your experience as well as the restaurant itself. The restaurant is beautiful and perfect for a date night. We went with the chefs tasting menu and it was incredible. 7 courses in all and they were all hits. This is considered "AfroMex" a fusion of two cuisines I really enjoy. 1st course - Bowl of life Cucumber - Watermelon - Tomato - Avocado - Plantain Tuile - Suya Broth 2nd course - Tuna Aguachile Yellowfin Tuna - Orange Aguachile - Plantain - Agusi Seed and chapulin crumble 3rd Course - Squash Blossom Taco Plantain Stuffed Squash Blossom - Romesco - Piri piri Sauce - Blue Corn Tortilla Lagniappe - Gulf Seafood Consome 4th Course - Pork Confit Memela Mustard green masa - Crispy Pork Carnitas - Piri piri sauce - Mustard Green Frills - Flowers from the Garden 5th Course - Braised Short Rib Braised Short Rib - Mung bean - Corn - Abuelita Demi Glace - Pickled veg Palate Cleanser - Mangonada 6th Course - Mango Entremet Mango Mousse - Lemon Curd - Mango Lime Cake 7th Course - Stuffed Churro Banana Pudding Stuffed Churros The 4th course was presented to us as the item that best represents the restaurant and what they are trying to convey with their menu. I see why! It was phenomenal. Putting mustard greens in masa was a stroke of genius and a very unexpected fusion that worked incredibly well. The meat was tender and seasoned great. The whole menu featured incredible flavors and dishes you'll think about long after the taste fades. They source local ingredients from their 1913 "conscious community collective". Chef Sergio and Chef Chris are really great chefs and I'm sure they will have a ton of continued success. I appreciate them stopping by the table and having a little fun with us and really describing their food, their initiative and their passion for Late August. Our server Nicki was great all night as well. Service was seamless and enjoyable. I can see why Late August is Michelin recommended but based on my experience, they deserve a star. We've been to multiple Michelin starred restaurants and can say without a doubt Late August is deserving. I look forward to coming back soon and have already recommended them to multiple people. Thanks for a great evening, Late August. Cheers!

We visited during Houston Restaurant week. Love the ion and all the businesses, so was excited to try this place out! Lots of parking provided by the ion; first 3 hours are free. We made a dinner reservation and were quickly seated. Option for still or tap water which is nice. Still water will be about $7/bottle and does not include refills. The staff who helped us were all super nice. The space itself is very modern and the seats were so comfortable! They provided a 3 pc course during HRW. Started off with gumbo and it was how we expect- it was warm and comforting and what you would expect gumbo to taste. As for the main entree, the braised short rib was a favorite. The meat pulled apart so quickly and the rice complemented it very well. The seafood plate was ok. The sauce was too overpowering for us which took away from the flavors. We had to take the seafood in a to go box. For dessert, I was a fan of the corn bread pudding. The bread was super soft and paired well with the ice cream. I didn't get a chance to take a picture of the rice pudding brûlée, but that was just ok for me. The food itself was all good overall, but I think we would have experienced better ordering off of the regular menu next time.

Lovely experience at Late August!! I am so surprised it's not packed since it's on the Michelin Guide. Not many parties on a Friday night. Love the location and the parking lot! Service is outstanding. Complimentary champagne just because we were celebrating something was very kind! The space is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. I love the velvet chairs, it feels like you're dining in a nice sitting room or lounge area. Crispy octopus was perfectly cooked. Love that it comes with yucca. The sauces paired perfectly and the crispy chili oil topping gave it a slight but pleasant kick. The Texas redfish had a beautiful crispy skin and all the sauces paired nicely. So fun that it comes with a tamale with shrimp. The topping (tapenade) had olives in it- I'm not really a fan of olives but the flavor wasn't overwhelming at all. The cabrito stew was my favorite. The flavors were so pronounced and it is a perfect savory dish. The meat is tender and juicy and the tomatoes bring this brightness and acidity to cut through the richness of the meat. Such a comforting dish. Can't wait to try more things!

Having such an interest in The Ion in the former Sears Building, I anxiously watched Late August preparing to open. I love they incorporated the Sears catalog into their name. Part of the Lucille Hospitality Group, you can expect the same quality, attention to detail, artistic cuisine, and the flavor as their other concepts! Must order the salad that comes with those amazing croutons!! It's brioche bread simmered in butter for like 12 hours. The way it melts in your mouth is divine! The menu items I ordered did not disappoint, tasted perfect, the drinks are fresh, & the atmosphere is wonderful. They have a private room that can be as open or closed to the inside of The Ion (see pics with the curtain).

Located at the Ion building in south downtown. Parking is free for 0-3 hours at the adjacent parking lot. The interior is modern and fits the vibe that the building is going for. We got smoked drumettes (4/5, $13) and fried tomatillos (3.5/5, $18) for appetizers. They were presented well and the flavors were distinct. I ordered the fried chicken for the main; it was 4 pieces of fried chicken (4/5, $26) that were fried with a solid batter. Very traditional southern fried chicken batter that was crispy and the interior was moist thanks to the dark meat pieces. The lack of a side that should've come with the main dish was a bit of a letdown in my opinion. Overall, the food is solid, although I was hoping for a bit more on the appetizers. Good option for this area of town.

I had been wanting to visit this place for months and I'm so glad I finally did! It definitely lived up to my expectations with delicious food using high quality ingredients, friendly and attentive service, unique and delicious drinks, and a beautiful interior design. Seating was comfortable, and there's good lighting with the front wall being all windows. Couldn't ask for more. The menu changes seasonally and we visited in June. For small plates, we enjoyed the memelitas and grilled octopus. We also tried the Brussels sprouts and eggplant. Loved everything. The avocado sour was a unique and refreshing twist.

Visit the restaurant for a special event and even though the restaurant was packed the serves was amazing. We order tacodillas was amazing and so was the jambalaya. The Tacodillas was served hot and perfectly seasoned. The Jambalaya was a little spicy but overall balance. The oyster were a little bit brine not the clean flavor that would have paired nice with the toppings, as well the aguachilli was very light. I hope they keep the Tamarind Besos cocktail on the menu, it so case tamarind with the sour that it is known for but overall balance cocktail. I would order again and again Overall, a stunning restaurant with amazing food and great serves.

After attending the Yelp event at the Ion, the restaurant that really stood out to me was Late August. The bites we sampled that day were fantastic. We tried to pop in near the end of the event, but the kitchen had already closed an hour before their listed closing time. No worries though, we ended up coming back on a Saturday night to give it a proper try. There is garage parking down the street. And the ambiance was not particularly memorable but pleasant enough. The main reason we returned was because we couldn't stop thinking about the squash and oysters we had tasted at the event. We ordered drinks, then our appetizer (oysters), and then dinner in that order. About 20 minutes later, our entrees arrived... but no oysters in sight. We waited another 15 minutes before they finally brought them out--even though that was the first thing we ordered. Then came the squash. When it arrived, half the pieces were perfectly roasted, and the other half were oddly crunchy. It felt like they may have mixed older roasted squash with some freshly cooked ones. We let the server know, and she informed the manager who relayed that the chef said he cooked them exactly the same way he did for the Yelp event. That response left me a little disappointed. I would've appreciated the chef taking some accountability or the manager coming by to speak with us directly. By the time the corrected squash made it back to our table, about 30 minutes had passed and we were already done eating. It felt awkward, especially for a side dish. Reviews for the dishes: Fried chicken 5/5- This is the best fried chicken I've ever had. We actually ordered the roasted chicken, but they brought out fried by mistake, and I'm so glad they did. Crispy, juicy, and paired perfectly with the greens. Squash (after correction) 5/5 -Sweet, roasted, and the pomegranate seeds on top took it to another level. Mole oysters 5/5- I've never been a fan of raw oysters, but these completely changed my mind. Rich, flavorful, and perfectly dressed. Service definitely needs improvement. I came in with high hopes, and while the food was great, the overall experience just didn't match.

Half Fried chicken-$26. Huge portion! No sides, yall. Super crispy skin, juicy white meat!

I want to send a huuuugggeeee shout out to the manager, Danny and our waitress, Talli! I had spent 4 hours on the road to spend vday with...well...you know who you are... Anywho, I was a wreck, stressed, and hangry! We arrived 25 minutes AFTER the start of our resy, but they still had a table for us-- win! The restaurant was much smaller than I imagined, but cozy ! They offered a limited menu for the special day! The whole fish, the entree I had been eyeing for weeks, was NOT offered. The waitress saw my disappointment then immediately ran to the kitchen. Danny appeared with a smile, expressed sorrow that I was from Dallas (hehe) then told me they would make an exception and prepare my fish Escovitch! I was elated! The drinks were satisfying, would've enjoyed a little more alcohol-- not a real complaint. The fry bread is a must!!! I wish it came with a dipping sauce. You must get the smoked wings. Smoked and fried is a fantastic combo that restaurants should replicate more! Fried chicken is hugggeeee! Definitely enough for 2 people. Order a side because it's a la carte! The star of the show....my fish was everything I knew it was going to be! Fresh! Crispy! Not overpowered with salt . The vegetables with it were a perfect pairing! The cilantro provided freshness! Late August made this lady so incredibly happy. I'd go every week if I could.....these pockets won't allow it. Thank you for being awesome and going the extra mile. Other restaurants...take note!

So I finally visited Late August. Let me start by acknowledging it is a beautiful restaurant. When you walk in although it is a smaller space they utilize it beautifully. Come on Michelin star restaurant I see you! We were promptly greeted when we entered the restaurant and seated by the chefs view table an area where you get to see the food prepared amazing. Secondly shoutout to our awesome waiter! Tali I believe she was excellent! And even recommended this fabulous drink that was a 10. I ordered the fried bread and hummus spectacular! You can tell it's fresh made to order! And that fried bread omg so good! I also ordered the yuca/plantain chips which was seasoned with a cajun like salt tasty. For my main dish I ordered the Seared market fish. It was cooked to perfection and topped with like a ground olive cavier. The contrast of flavors was amazing! Additional shoutout to our waitress again who suggested a dessert wine that I tried and loved! This is coming from a person who does not like wine. Anyway I had an amazing time, the food was excellent and I will definitely be back!

I feel like my food was probably sitting for a while because it wasn't hot. The omelette itself didn't really have any flavor nor did the potatoes. The most flavorful thing on the plate was the avocados and fruit. I didn't even really feel like it was an omelette. Looked more like a bunch of meat wrapped in an egg cover vs everything being nicely mixed together. I took it to go because I didn't want to throw it away there. The service was very slow. I'd say it took a little over an hour for me to get my food and some people in the group waited longer. From the moment I stepped into this cozy spot, I instantly felt like I was back home in Puerto Rico. Just like our island, it's small, but filled with a huge heart. We spent time chatting with them about our families, childhood memories, and how happy we are that they've kept our culture alive right here in the Montrose area of Houston. We enjoyed a true Puerto Rican feast: arroz con gandules, pernil, mofongo con camarones al ajillo, pollo frito, empanadas de yuca y masa, flan de coco, limber de guanábana, and of course, more food to take home because we couldn't have it all at once! My personal favorite were the limbers with traditional flavors I don't recall ever having a limber outside of PR. Their unique position as one of the only Venezuelan spots in the loop becomes even more niche when one realizes that part of the menu is also Mediterranean / Middle Eastern (#1). If that's not Houston in a nutshell, I don't know what is. The place sports a casual vibe with a clean and bright interior. It's been practically empty with every visit, but I suspect the takeout game is strong here. There is limited parking in the back of the restaurant and the narrow alleyway entrance is somewhat easy to miss. Food wise, I am not disappointed. Their cheese cachapa is the stuff of dreams and includes a number of stuffings from ham to shredded chicken / beef. My vote is for their pabellón, which is a nice combination of shredded beef, black beans, and sweet plantains. For cheese lovers, the double cheese is perfectly indulgent with the sweetness of the cornmeal. The main draw for me was the arepas, which is something I missed having had so much of it back in NYC. La Pelua (shredded beef, mixed shredded cheese) is one of my go-tos, but my all-time favorite is the reina pepiada, a shredded chicken mixed with avocado topped with sprinkled salty white cheese. It's a staple in the Venezuelan arepa game and while their version is very solid, I'm just extremely thankful that it's available. Their breakfast platters are a big draw, which mainly consist of scrambled egg combos paired with arepas and various proteins. I think their yuca buñelos, tequeños, patacones, and especially their mandocas are incredibly underrated. The latter is practically dessert since it's mashed plantains with the cachapa stuffed with sugar and cheese. While they're not known for their empanadas, I do think their cazon (#2) is unique and their potato and cheese is always hearty. The shredded beef is a nice alternative to their arepas or arepitas (side) and make for an excellent snack on the go. Fans of Venezuelan cuisine who find themselves in the inner loop owe them a visit and I highly recommend calling ahead of time to ensure they have items available and to get a jump on the wait time for takeout.
