I lied - I have another new favorite place in Seattle, and it's Lassi & Spice! It's a cute little space across the street from another one of my beloved spots, Kai Market. Another thing to know about me - I LOVE lassis, and to see a menu with so many different flavors to choose from blew my mind. Even though I wanted to try everything, I opted for the blueberry cardamom and was not disappointed. Since we wanted something to nibble on, we also ordered the mini samosas and samosa chaat, which I also thoroughly enjoyed. I am definitely coming back!! read more

With coffee and tea on almost every block in Seattle, Lassi & Spice really stands out with its Indian-inspired drinks and snacks. A must-try if you're around the SLU area and want to shake up your regular cafe routine! I've always loved mango lassis and was pleasantly surprised by the large selection of other flavors here. So far I've had the golden lassi, rose lassi, and the mango lassi. Out of these, the golden was definitely my favorite: not too sweet, perfectly thicc, and packed with so many flavors. My one small complaint is in regards to consistency. I ordered the golden again during my most recent visit and it was not as deliciously creamy as it was the first time I had it; the texture almost seemed watered down compared to before. At $7, these are p pricey and more of a once in a while bev for me so I'd hope that it's amazing every time! Lassis aside, we have also tried the karak chai and masala chai. My boyfriend enjoyed them but I was less of a fan. Chai has always tasted like plain, bland milk tea to me and I'll always think it's too expensive for what it is. Will probs just stick with their other specialties from now on. The cafe itself is small, conveniently located, well decorated, and filled with spicy aromas. I really like their cute logo and think it would be awesome (and much more eco-friendly) if drinks were all served in branded mugs or glasses instead of single-use compostable plastic cups for guests staying in. Service has always been friendly and we noticed, in addition to a little paper sign with a feedback survey URL, that the owner was also there during one of our visits chatting with a customer about opportunities for improvement. The pav are so fluffy and perfectly toasted, and the idli are soft and pleasantly spongy, and each is the perfect complement to the paired veggie dish! I have pretty low spice tolerance, so the very mild heat of the plain pav bhaji is perfect, but it's good to know they can kick it up for those with different palates. Was walking around South Lake Union and decided to check out this place. It has a variety of Indian apps, and Indian twists on many drinks (ranging from tea, to lassis, to coffees). We got the vada pav, masala chai, and ginger chai. We were pleasantly surprised to find that everything tasted delicious and had a very familiar taste. The pricing is definitely on the higher side, especially for the drinks. There is not much seating in the establishment, and you'll most likely have to find parking on the street as well. The taste is okay. I ordered through Uber eats and the Sambar with vada and idli is starkly different from the image in the app. The vada is about 1/3 the size of what you would expect based on the image and it's clear that the vada is cut in half (so it's only half of the 1/3 size you'd expect). The kaapi (coffee) is pretty good though. Update: I'm updating my rating to 3 stars based on the quick response from the owner, since I certainly don't want to impact the business, but I don't think it's excusable to have misleading pictures so I'm leaving the review intact so customers can decide for themselves. Your customers are dealing with a pandemic too and working hard, so giving an incorrect impression of the quantity isn't being respectful to your customer's time and money either. I understand that deliveries are harder to set expectations which is why the pictures are important that they be accurate (the actual sambar quantity may be more than the pic, but if we're comparing, then there's also 3 chutneys in the pic but only one that was actually sent). read more

All the drinks we got were sub par at best, and I made a yelp account just to make this post. The peach mint lime fizz was entirely too syrup heavy that it was nearly undrinkable after threw sips. The sweet cardamom latte was so grainy that even for the hour after throwing out the drink after consuming maybe a third of it the residual ground were still around in my friend's mouth. The black coffee I ordered was perhaps the worst coffee I have ever purchased. Watered down, burnt and overly bitter. Lassi was not tried but I would not recommend going here for any other beverage. A cute place for chaat (South Asian snacks) in the middle of Amazonia. It was nice to see vada pav, misal pav, pav bhaji etc. on the menu, along with some South Indian options (sambar with idli, rice, or medhu vada, potato bonda etc.) Also some breakfast items like aloo paratha, upma, poha etc. and some European-style pastries. The drinks are clever, like the Bournvita (India's answer to Ovaltine) latte. We ordered samosa chaat (crushed-up samosa with chickpeas and chutneys), idli sambar (steamed cakes made of fermented lentil and rice batter with spicy lentil soup) and pav bhaji (vegetable stew with sweet buns). Of the three, we enjoyed the samosa chaat and pav bhaji the most--the samosa chaat was spicy, tangy, and hearty, and the pav bhaji was well-cooked and had a good pav-to-bhaji ratio. The sambar was tasty but the idlis could have been a little more flavorful--they were sort of bland, like they were from a premade mix, and didn't have the good sourdough flavor they should have. We also had filter coffee (delicious) and a pistachio lassi, which was excellent but very rich--we did not finish a small one! Next time I'd love to try the rose or haldi (turmeric) lassi. For people who are less familiar with the non-curry offerings of South Asian cuisine, this is a nice, nonthreatening introduction in a compact space. If you're looking for something other than the salad-and-grain-bowl standard fare in SLU, this is a great option! read more

We ordered vada pav, samosa chaat and pistachio lassi. The samosa chaat was absolute yum! Perfect blend of sauces and spices. Vada pav order had 3 pieces, great for sharing between 2 people. I so wanted to love this place. I appreciate what they're doing but it was so inauthentic, it was borderline offensive. Nothing seemed to be fresh. There were bags of storebought goods sitting out in the front, which made me wonder if they actually made anything in-house. I could literally buy the same bag of bhel from the store and make it myself. The bhel was dry and bland and the lassi was unimpressive. I popped in today because my daughter has been trying to convince me to order the pistachio lassi. I love most anything with pistachio and this was no exception. My lassi was smooth, and had a creamy consistency. The pistachio taste was not overwhelming. I highly recommend giving this drink a try. I also had the vada pav, which are small sandwiches that consist of potato patties on Hawaiian rolls. These were delicious and filing. This place has a very unique concept of serving Indian chaat and snacks like poha and upma which is very rare in the Seattle area. Was very excited to try out the food here but the flavours were disappointing. They were sold out of the Wada pav, so I tried their Poha. The Poha was not made fresh. It looked and tasted like they just added water to prepackaged Poha and warmed it up. Not at all authentic. I really wanted to love this place, but just so many things for them to work on! Came in on a weekend with my in-laws and husband. It was fairly empty so we grabbed a seat and ordered at the register. Being South East Asian and having lived in India for sometime, I've been craving a really good indian snack place. Lassi & Spice didn't deliver, but there is always room to grow! The dishes we got include: Poha - was under salted, and the peanuts were over roasted to being a little soggy. The peanuts should be added as a topping after the dish I complete Vada Pav - the Vada itself was under salted and bland. a spicier garlic chutney is needed to really give it a kick. Samosa Chaat - I found the samosa dough a little hard and raw onion were missing. I would serve this (and all chaats) with those thin fried rice crackers instead of samosas. Mango & Salt Lassi- too thick and the mango was overpowering. Rose Lassi- was my favorite of the day! Very refreshing! Overall, I may come back in the future to see if things have improved. wow....was so excited to try this place and was so disappointed. ordered online the night before and showed up a little early for my pick up- it wasn't ready, but the staff was nice enough to make it earlier. i showed up right when they opened and understand that they were still setting up, but still felt like they were very annoyed to have me there. fine, if the drinks had been okay, which they completely weren't. i ordered the seasonal grapefruit lassi online the day before, only to get there and be told that they were out of grapefruit. i was the first one there- why list it as an option if it wasn't available at all? in addition, i had wanted to try the cardamom latte, which was a complete bust. they literally forgot the coffee, which is a somewhat important part of a latte. it was just oat milk and cardamom powder- a huge waste. i noticed after i left and would've gone back if i hadn't already felt so unwelcome the first time around. finally, i got one of the day old pastries which was clearly marked as $1 upfront, and they tried to charge me $4.50 for it. i'm just visiting seattle and wasn't planning on returning anyway, but this was just too much to not share. come here if you want to be excited about something and then not try it, be overcharged for food, and get coffee-less coffee. aka, don't come here. read more

I don't rate 3 stars often because I normally have strong feelings about food no matter what, but I am so lukewarm about this place for a few reasons. Let me just start out by saying that due to COVID, this cafe is offering curbside service and the inside is inaccessible- I don't think that I read any reviews that mentioned this, so I was a bit surprised that we couldn't go into the cafe! But obviously I understand and appreciate the safety precautions for their employees and customers and just want to give a heads up in case anyone is inconvenienced while visiting when the weather is less pleasant. On to the review! When I arrived, the first thing that I asked is if it's possible for them to make the samosa's not spicy, to which I was informed that all of the samosas are pre-made already. I was surprised to hear this, because those definitely aren't "we-dont-do-made-to-order-samosas" prices, but I digress. So I ordered two different types of samosas for my friend and I, as well as four sliders and a rose lassi. -The samosa plate was ok. I don't even know what to say about it, it was just alright. -The samosa chaat was like a samosa soup- you actually have to fish the samosas out of the sauce. I didn't expect to need a fork based on the picture on the board so I didn't even bother. I just wanted something that was easy to eat at the time and forgot about it when I got home. -The sliders were good. I scraped some of the spicy sauce that comes on the bun off, and I actually did enjoy them. -The rose lassi was offensively chunky and the flavor was WAY too strong- every lassi I've had was more like a smoothie texture, but this one was like... You know how when you drink orange juice with pulp and end up chewing through it at some point? Yeah, that. Overall this place is the very definition of mid. I don't dislike it but I don't think that it's worth the effort that I spent to find parking. read more

Grand opening of Lassi and Spice is today in South Lake Union! There are so many unique drinks to try that you wouldn't find at a typical coffee shop. Come try their array of Indian drinks like turmeric lattes, chai teas that the spices are grind fresh daily, and high protein, low sugar lassis made from locally sourced yogurt. Lassi flavors include rose, mango, and blueberry cardamom. Our favorite was the mango lassi! They do have dairy alternatives like oat milk and almond! With the lattes and chai drinks, if you need to make your drink sweeter, they offer simple syrup on the side to your liking. Some of the food items you can find are samosas, chaat, and vada pav sliders. The vegetarian options that they feature are probably my favorite. I really enjoyed the vegetarian samosas and vada pav sliders (veggie potato patty) the best. I would recommend you try those first. The slider had a great level of spice that was both surprising but appreciated. The samosas are served with a variety of chutney flavors that really add a ton of flavor to the small bite. The samosas are $4 for 4 but you can choose between chicken, spinach & cheese, or potato & pea! The inside of this cute cafe has a plant wall, tall bar seating near the window, or tables to meet with someone. Come check out this new cafe for yourself! This is a laid back cafe. They have Indian "snack" options and it's pretty authentic. They don't skimp on the spice level but it's not overwhelming. We had the masala chai, vada pav and bhel puri. Again, the vada pav chutney and the bhel puri were spicy. The chai was strong and had a great flavor. The small chai was a good size too. Meh. For Indian food it was pretty one dimensional. I ordered the misal pav, but they were out. So I had had the samosa chaat. The spice from the cumin was almost all I could taste. It was dry and basic. My pistachio lassi was equally underwhelming and flavorless. Top it off with a disinterested staff and you have an incredibly forgettable place. The chai is good though pricey (with $1 tip you're over $8) and the owner even sold me some mix one time which was super thoughtful. The 3 stars is for quality control of the baristas (it's 1 maybe 2 only but unforgivable in my opinion if you're selecting for customer service) - there's a breed of baristas in Seattle with a passive aggressive, offended by your presence, entitled attitude and I'm just so sick of it. As if "hi! Welcome in, what can I get for you?" is asking way too much. I can also see that one barista sets the "walk on eggshells around me" atmosphere and I feel like the other baristas are more tense/reserved because of it. read more
