Be very careful about getting your eye SURGERY done here (yes, it is a surgery). 1.They have the profit motive of telling you that you are a candidate for surgery even if your are not a perfect candidate. 2. They do not tell you about the possible serious complications (there are possible compications with every surgery). Chronic dryness, sensetivity, infection, double vision, poor night vision, etc. 3. Even after surgery (assuming that everything goes well) you might still need to wear glasses. That's right. You need to push them to make it crystal clear to you whether you will be needing glasses after surgery or not. 4.Their prices are not competetive. They advertise a price of $500/eye but be prepaired to pay around $2500. 5. The surgery is somewhat intrusive. They will have to cut, remove, and place back a layer of your cornea which they are not very forward about. 6. The staff wear white lab coats. Don't be fooled into thinking that simply because he/she is wearing a lab coat that he/she is a medical professional. 7. Right after the free consultation they will bring you to a room to discuss the date of the surgery. Don't feel obligated to book an appointment for surgery simply because you were given a free consultation. 8. If there are complications, they will not accept any responsiblity. It's called "plausible deniability". If you experience complications, they will not acccept any wrong doing. 9.You will have to pay for any medication that you are going to need in case of a complication. 10. They will tell you a second corrective surgery is possible. That is not the case. If the corrections needed are small, a second surgery is not possible. 11. You will not be able to win a lawsuit against them. Malpractice lawsuits are very difficult to win. Doctors are protected by their union with infinit resources. Simply becuase you suffer from complications after the surgery that will not grant you a victory in court. So, it is up to you to make a decision to have your surgery done despite all the risks. Personally, I made the wrong decision. I should not have had the surgery. Not just because of the risks associated with it or that the staff at Lasik MD were not clear and forward about all the risks and the fact that I have been experiencing complications but rather the fact that advances in medical science will be able to offer better treatments with lower risks soon. So, I recommond that you just wait a little longer! Cheers, read more

The end result is wonderful - 20/20 vision! I'm speaking from about 10 days post-op, my vision is perfectly clear, and my eyes are much more comfortable than when I wore contacts. I chose / was recommended "custom wavefront" type of lasik, which is not the "starting at $490" advertised option. It's a good way to get people in the door and booking consults, but I think almost no one goes with the cheaper one, as the "custom" is so much more advanced...or that's my understanding anyway - and it's your eyes right! Not the area to go for a bargain! (So it was $1090 per eye) They seem to have a problem with their scheduling, which meant a lot of waiting. The day of my free consult I didn't wait much at all. On operation day, everyone seemed to "pile-up" waiting for the actual operation. Which meant for me, just waiting in silent anticipation and a bit of anxiety. The longest wait was the 24 hour post-op check. I had an appointment for 8:45am. I saw everyone else there from the day before at the same time. I asked a few of them what time their appointment was and they also said 8:45am. So it seems that for their convenience, the clinic puts everyone at the same time, and just makes you wait for your name to be called. This was a bit of a pain, being from out of town. Why they couldn't more efficiently schedule is a little puzzling. I can understand falling behind, as things can get delayed etc, but this just seemed inconsiderate. My only other complain was the lack of preparation for the actual operation. I was told I would feel a lot of pressure, minor discomfort, and the smell of burning hair. Yes to all of these, but I also had pain that shot into my temples and felt like a sudden onset of an intense migraine. It only lasted the 45-60 seconds per eye, but with the lack of warning that pain like that could occur, I was pretty disoriented once they had me sit up. Don't get me wrong, the momentary pain, and other small discomfort were and are well worth the final outcome and I recommend it to anyone looking to ditch contacts and/or glasses from their lives. Overall, my experience was excellent. read more

I've been through multiple examinations, and knew my medical details going in. I knew and what my eye details were, as well as the consultations I've received up to that point (in total I had been to 5 clinics, and did a plethora of research pre and post-examination), but wanted to see what I received from them without adulteration. The doctor informed me of the different procedures in very reassuring explanations, lots of diagrams, but was very adamant against PRK, even referring to it as being "like glass in your eyes" with regards to recovery. This isn't often the case with modern PRK, so I was curious about his bias. Also I am hyperopic, with thinner-than-normal corneas, PRK would've been preferred in my circumstance due to my flatter/weaker lenses. I also knew I had a very high regression rate, I've been marked between 30-40%, with +3.25 in both eyes, and a dilation of about +4.5. But the doctor made no mention of my likelihood of regression, nor did he recommend waiting until my 40s to see if my eyes have stopped changing. I had to inquire about this detail from the person who went over the payment options. All-in-all it was a very pro-sale environment, with few details of risk, complication, or even benefit. Just vague reassurance. As it is it does not make sense for me to spend $2000+ only to see a 40% regression rate into a diopter range that might make me then unqualified for touch-ups, especially given my thinner corneas and hyperopia. Ultimately I decided to pass on the surgery, but there are better clinics out there. Coal Harbour Eye Centre is far better in terms of downtown clinics being upfront about your eligibility and complications. read more

I went to LasikMD for my consultation and left feeling very optimistic about my eyesight after being told by one of the patient counsellors that I was a candidate for lasik. I was told I would be contacted to schedule a vision simulation appointment because I'm 40 and need to correct presbyopia, I was also told that they would let me know if the surgeon determined that I needed PRK instead of regular lasik. I scheduled my lasik for almost 6 weeks out and went on my way.... THE WEEK BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT, they contact me to tell me I never scheduled the simulator appointment (I was told previously that they would schedule that) and could I stop everything in my life and come downtown for this appointment (I was told it would take 15 minutes, I was there for an hour). I was then contacted THE DAY BEFORE MY SURGERY because they decided they wanted to reschedule my appointment two hours earlier (after they had given me the wrong appointment time a week before)... ok fine, so by this time I'm feeling like they are maybe disorganized but I go to the surgery anyway. 10 minutes before I'm giving them my credit card, I am being told that the surgeon doesn't want to do normal lasik on me, I'm not a candidate for this, I need the super invasive PRK and will be off work for at least a week (I only scheduled the standard 3 days). I told them I could not take a week off work with no notice so they tried to make me call my employer to reschedule the surgery right then. I told them my work schedule is made a month ahead of time and who can just call their employer to take a week off. I was told by the VERY RUDE technician "Well, it IS elective surgery." I will admit that I flipped out at this point. I tried to take my CONFIDENTIAL patient file but they refused to give it to me. The patient relations person from this place phoned me yesterday to ask what they could do to gain my trust. I asked her for my confidential file as a show of good faith.... she wanted to charge me $80 for it because "the consultation was free" After all the time that they wasted of mine, they never did anything to make things right. Even her "apology" phone call was a huge waste of time. I wouldn't trust these people to brush my cat, let alone fix my eyesight. read more

I had been at LasikMD once for a first consult which went ok except for them trying to push fairly new treatment ok me as I was low risk. I had decided to go back set a date for my surgery which is when I had a bad experience. I was asked to come for the meeting at 10am on a Wednesday. I was able to get an hour off work to go for this meeting. I arrived at 10am sharp and was asked to take a seat and I would be called in shortly. After I had been waiting for 20 minutes, I went to the reception to ask when i would get called in. I was told that they had been busy this morning but they were just finishing up with another client and would call me in shortly. I went back to the waiting room and waited for another 25 minutes, a total of 45 minutes, I went back out to the receptionist and said that I didn't have any more time to wait and I felt my time had been wasted, I also told her it would have been very helpful if they could have called me to let me know they were falling behind schedule instead of having me sit in a waiting room for 45 minutes. She told me they couldn't call up people like that and there was nothing she could do other than rescheduling the meeting, but if I would sit back down they would get me in shortly. I had already spent 1 hour with walking there and waiting in the waiting room, and had to get back to work, sadly LasikMD never tried to fix the situation nor did they try to reach out to me afterwards to apologize or mend the situation. If your time is valuable I wouldn't visit LasikMD. read more

Marketing! They do not care for your health and do not provide best option for you. They do Lasik to anyone even if it's better PRK than Lasik. I went there for consultation. Optometrist was rushing to do things and I felt that she wanted to finish her work as soon as possible. Moreover, in the end she said I am good candidate for Lasik advanced, where they cut bigger surface of cornea. As I do care of my eyes, I have decided do not settle on one place and have some more consultations in other clinics. I went to Pacific Laser Center and Dr. Holland advised that the only option for me is PRK because my cornea is thin. I was angry at Lasik MD because they did not even offer me this option! I understand that they do thousands of Lasik operations but I DO CARE for my own health! In addition, Lasik MD does good marketing for themselves - they kept calling me and pushing to schedule surgery date. That's annoying! I do not buy it because it's cheaper! read more

Being a very active person, having laser eye surgery is certainly something I've considered for a long time. I was very happy with the service at lasik md. The staff is very personable and knowledgeable and made me feel very comfortable throughout the process. The or staff was especially caring and attentive as I did get some nervous jitters on my day of surgery. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone considering lasik. read more

I was hoping to get a refresher, because my eyesight had regressed after 9 years. The staff from the receptionist, optician to the Dr. were all great compared to the service I got at Coal Harbour Eye Centre. The consult was free at Lasik, while Coal Harbour wanted $75 after I had been there before to have my Lasik and Prk in 2007. Dr. Radia Astab was very kind and honest with me, she said I wasn't a candidate because if I tried to correct my far sightedness it would mess up my near sightedness. read more

My wife went for a consultation in September for corrective surgery and was told she was a candidate to have presbyvision lens replacement that would correct both her close and distance vision. She made an appointment for mid December was given the cost and subsequently went through a financial approval process to pay for the surgery. A week prior to the surgery, as instructed, she purchased the prescribed eye drops that she would need for post op treatment and scheduled time off of work. Two days before her scheduled surgery, she was called for a further consultation and told at that time, that in fact the best they could do was perhaps give her monovision. As you can imagine she was very disappointed and suspicious of the level of professionalism that this company works to. How can you trust someone with something as precious as your vision when they cant even get a diagnosis done correctly and in a timely manner. read more

Ok. I'm gonna start by saying that once I saw one of the optometrists, she was trying to fish information out of me. She said that my glasses' prescription was old and that it did not match my eyes prescription when 3 different places told me the exact same number. Then, she went off to tell me that I needed to get lasik done because it's a lot better than PRK, faster recovery with zero disadvantages. She did not tell me that Lasik uses more tissue, can have flap complications and can make your eyes dry. She also said that Lasik is not even a surgery it's more like a "treatment" because it's done super fast and that you can workout the very next day (wrong) The sales tactics on Lasik MD is like Fitness World. They try to sell you the biggest package they have before giving you what you really need. Total price for Lasik - 2,980. PRK - 1,780 both include the prices for meds. I've asked my optometrist what he thought about that place and he said that there's such a turnover of optometrists, that I shouldn't reply on a place like that. I've asked other people and they said that they didn't hear great things about it. I have a co-worker who did her eyes there and she was fine but I have also passed by and saw cops going inside that building just last week (not sure what happened there) Yeah the whole chips ahoy and water/tea reception is great but I would like to think my eyes are worth a lot more than cookies and water. This place just wasn't for me. read more

Lasik MD was amazing! Their staff were very friendly and were able to ensure complete confidence in the procedure. Following up they were very open and honest about prices, the healing etc and it made me feel 100% confident in the surgery. The surgeon was very nice and thorougly explained all parts of the surgery, and ensured I felt at ease. The price was guranteed to beat others in the mainland, and so far after the surgery im impressed with how easy the post treatment was, and my vision is amazing! Highly recommend lasik MD to my friends and family. read more

The staff there was very friendly, patient and very knowledgeable. They have FREE consultations but they took their time with me and didn't try to rush me out of the room. They gave me the different options and also told me what they thought would be best for me. Didn't feel like I was being pressured to go one way or another. I am confident that I am in good hands. read more

I just went this past week for my consultation. This was my second opinion, after London Eye Centre. The first place quoted me quite high so I thought I'd get another opinion. After hearing the ads on the radio, I went to my opinion skeptical that it was going to be a sales pitch and I wasn't expecting to actually schedule an appointment . But once I was there, I found that they really knew what they were doing and I felt very comfortable. I was told upon arrival that the appoitnent was going to be 2 hours....I walked out 1.5 hours later so be prepared to be there a while. The exam went well, it was determined that I'm an excellent candidate. Once I sat down with the counsellor to go over numbers, I found that they were very low pressure. I actually had to initiate the scheduling by asking "so when can I book for?". All in all, great experience so far and I'm booked for my procedure in 3 weeks! I'm pumped! read more
