Interested in harassment and inaccurate information concealed as genuine concern for your hair removal decisions? Then this is the place to go. I take oral minoxidil (of many things) for alopecia - and if you're familiar with the side effects, then you know you'll probably turn into a werewolf. That said, I contacted LaserAway inquiring about their upper lip and underarm hair removal services. But upon realizing I'll unfortunately grow a mustache for as long as I take minoxidil (and I don't plan on going bald anytime soon), I decided it's best I do electrolysis for my upper lip given its permanent hair removal results. Following this choice, I was forthcoming in advising LaserAway staff of my electrolysis decision via text. Despite this, I later received a phone-call from LaserAway inquiring about my verdict to commence services. I again advised them of my decision and that I previously communicated it to them via text . Is all well after this encounter? No. [Red Flag #1]. The following day, I receive another phone-call from LaserAway inquiring about my decision... again [Red Flag #2]. While they're trying to assure me on being the best, I'm erroneously told electrolysis isn't a permanent hair removal solution (incorrect) and laser hair removal is a permanent hair removal method (it's not). [Red Flag #3]. The LaserAway staff also tells me electrolysis doesn't work for dark skin and dark hair (that's not true). [Red Flag #4]. With frustration, I asked the staff if they're even a Physician. They say no. Go Figure! [Red Flag #5]. I advise them that they're wrong and I not only came to my decision following research, but after a conversation with my Board Certified, Skin of Color, Assistant Professor, Assistant Dermatology Program Director NYU Langone Health MD Dermatologist. FYI: Laser hair removal promotes permanent like hair reduction up to 80-90%. However, electrolysis is the only PERMANENT hair removal method approved by the FDA and it works on all skin tones. While not my source of information, LaserAway's website even states the aforementioned. So, it's apparent the staff didn't read their training manual - but I digress. That said, instead of the LaserAway staff (who's not an MD) deciding to respect my boundaries and come to terms with their misinformation, they further exhibit flagrant audacity by telling me I should "probably get a second opinion and/or seek another dermatologist." [Red Flag #6. Hell let's give them an extra 4 Red Flags for kicks and make it 10]. Why? Because, this was just unprofessional. But also because I'm a black woman, with dark skin and dark hair who faces adversity in cosmetology. I was forthcoming in telling LaserAway about my alopecia, where one of my treatments (minoxidil) brings about my need for upper lip hair removal. But in conjunction with receiving a bundle of imprecise information from LaserAway staff, they advise I no longer get my very correct information... from my very well decorated Dermatologist,MD... who specializes in the hair, skin and nails of Skin of Color/Black patients - and treats my alopecia. How does LaserAway boldly tell someone to find a new doctor, when they've been wrong about everything they've said thus far? Whatever, moving on. My phone-call with LaserAway ends politely not because I've grown to ponder my actions but because I had an immediate engagement to attend - forcing me end the call. That said, I will no longer look into underarm laser hair removal with them or anything else. The communication with LaserAway was unethical, disruptive and left me flabbergasted. This place is a scam. DO NOT TRUST THEM. I have been a loyal customer and had been going to LaserAway for a few years. I had to purchase many more packages to get results than they originally told me. Their response to that was simply, "Oh, some people need more treatments than other people." But they don't tell you this in the beginning when they are just trying to sell you 6. I had received a few complimentary sessions along the way, which were apparently not documented properly (a manager just called to tell me this), so they are retroactively telling me that I received too many treatments. So from the package of 3 that I most recently purchased (by a Laseraway employee who cold-called me to make a sale for a maintenance package), I am being refused the last one. I was rudely called by one of the staff the night before my last appointment and told in an accusatory tone that I had been "overtreated" as if this was my fault. Do not trust this company or the employees that try to get you "deals." read more

I have had three types of treatments at Laser Away: clear and brilliant, Thermage, and Botox. The staff is always friendly and very helpful. The salon is clean and efficient. I recommend Laser Away. Beyond that it is damn near impossible to set up an appointment with them because the volume of clients is clearly so much larger than what any individual location can accommodate. I have been forcibly rescheduled so many times and at this point I've just given up and started going to the FAR superior Romeo and Juliette in upper Manhattan. Nothing against the employees, I loved the salesperson at the Brooklyn Heights location alongside the nurses who saw me, but it's very clear none of them are happy with their jobs and they're constantly having to choose between actually helping me like they want to and awkwardly trying to upsell me despite me clearly stating my budget and the fact that I do not want to spend another damn cent at this embarrassing stain on the beauty industry they call a """"Clinic"""" go anywhere else, seriously, ANYWHERE ELSE BUT LASERAWAY. I came to LaserAway for a tattoo removal with Jane. I was nervous as I anticipated the removal to be painful, but Jane was so kind and made sure I was comfortable. She applied numbing cream before the laser, which really helped a lot with the pain. The ink of my tattoo has already lifted a good amount! She was clear on the aftercare instructions and even gave me an extra roll of gauze and cream for the night. Tracy at the front desk was also extremely sweet!! Update on my treatment, I ended up choosing this place for coolsculpting (out of other cheaper and closer options) and was very disappointed with the results. My initial consultation went great, they were very friendly especially when you're a potential customer. They told me I would not need another session and I would be a great candidate after examining me. I can ended up biting the bullet and moved forward with the treatment in the stomach area - I did 4 panels with the "core" size. Fast forward 3 months later (waiting sufficient and the recommended time to let my body heal) I saw zero results and I am out over $2000. I went back for an "after pic" since they told me to come back 3 mons later to prove that I did not see any results and they confirmed that was the case as well. The branch said it was out of their hands and would have to wait for a call from corporate. I later receive a call from Katrina Valladao from corporate and she basically told me there's nothing they can do because it was in the consent formed I signed when I paid for the treatment. There's also "no one else" I can talk to and that she was "the end of the line" - her words. I had picked this place even though it was more expensive because I thought with their reputation I would be in good hands and in case I needed help with anything for my treatment they would be more willing to work with me. This obviously was far from the fact and in reality they were quick to brush me off and just kept slapping the papers in front of you that they have no responsibility whatsoever. In the phone call she asked me to walk her through the process, I said they marked where they were putting the applicator and they applied the applicator - she goes oh okay it definitely sounds like the protocol and they did everything right. She said as a courtesy they can offer me some store credit which is a small amount compared to how much I spent for nothing. I can only get that small amount of store credit if I signed a form that release my right to any claims "forever" from agents, employees, successors and assigns, insurers, and all other related persons or entities liable or who might be claimed to be liable. This is laseraway guys, make sure you never have any issues with your treatments of any kind because you are on your own and will only talk to ONE person who is the "end of the line" because there's "no one else". read more

I've been there (the downtown Brooklyn location) a few times for laser hair removal. Jackie, Briana and Amanda have taken care of me. No complaints so far about the nurses that do the treatments; they have been great. They were very polite, friendly and attentive. The front desk staff has also been very nice. But, I think they are paid on commission, b/c they push the guests to buy more services. One of them tried to sell me a whole new package for laser hair removal because it is "unheard of that the first package removes all the hair." I'm about to for my last treatment, #8. As per their sales pitch, 1 package (of 8 treatments) removes 80% of hair. So why would i buy 8 more?!?! The math doesn't add up. Why 4 stars? I love the nurses!! I love they get paid an actual real wage! This is great. It speaks well of the company. I think they are expanding too rapidly, too many locations nationwide too fast = too much focus on selling = higher prices. I don't love the focus on selling. I came to Laser Away for Botox in my forehead and crows feet. I was a bit nervous because I had been to a private medical practice on the UES for Botox before and had a really terrible experience with super flattened heavy brows and a face that looked nothing like mine. I was really up front with the staff at Laser Away about what I wanted, my past experience, and my nerves. They were really great! They affirmed my feelings and explained everything in detail to me. The actual injections were easy cheesy and over so quick. I had no bruising and my bumps subsided in an hour or so. I scheduled a follow up a few weeks after my first appointment to ensure everything was what I wanted. I ended up getting just a touch more to help a line above my brow and again the nurse was extremely helpful and kind. I'll definitely be coming back! read more

So I'm a few months out from my last treatment (8 package for body areas, 10 for face plus and extra session to makeup for a subpar treatment) and I must say I am very disappointed. I spent $4800 for nearly full body LHR with minimal results, in fact I'm actually shaving some areas MORE than I was prior to treatment. I've done a few different types of LHR removal in the past with good results (in fact, I'm a healthcare provider and used to administer LHR) and the lasers here are subpar or the treatment settings were too low. And no, I haven't had a big hormonal shift or change in medications or anything that would cause more hair growth since stopping treatment. -1 star because you don't always get the same tech and even when I requested the same tech it didn't happen. They had to comp me a session because one tech rushed through my appointment in less than hour when it usually take about 90 minutes (I was treating my entire body area). -1 star because scheduling wasn't always easy. I had the office call day of my appointment once saying my tech was sent to another location and would it be okay to see someone else which I was hesitant to do since I had variable experiences with different techs; another time it took my 2 days and a few emails to get an appointment changed because they use a large west coast based call center. -1 star because they don't seem to care about delivering results. For nearly $5K I expected much more and being that I've had LHR in the past I know I respond to it. Again, having performed these treatments myself I was expecting the usual "popping" or "snapping" along with that burned hair smell and it never happened. I'm truly not one to complain and the one time I asked the tech she just kind of brushed me off. I figured maybe these lasers are newer and different than what I was used to so I just tried to trust the process. After working through the pandemic this was a gift to myself to commit to paying for a routine full treatment rather than spot treating myself here and there at work and boy do I regret that. +1 star for clean facilities +1 star for running appointments on time I recommend going to a smaller facility with a designated tech who is assessing your hair response as you go. Against my better judgment I picked a large chain because I thought surely they must be good at doing this and I was sadly mistaken. I did reach out to LA expressing my concern and asking for a partial refund given my lack of response (not to mention I'll be paying to go elsewhere) and they denied that request. So again, my advice is to go to a smaller practice that will give you more thorough and effective treatments. (TMS in Tribeca is where I'd recommend). read more

Results and deals wise they're great - though the receptionist numbed my entire lips for a lip flip which was weird and I don't think my left side from my filler came out as even. But more important they always change the appointment on me last minute without a phone call and then have you come early when really you start 30-40 minute after the time you're scheduled for, it's a huge waste of time the stress of booking with them. This was my first time ever getting laser facial treatment. The facility is clean, bright and welcoming. The front desk staff were pleasant, professional and very kind. They answered all my questions and even helped me purchase some of their skin/cosmetic products. My aesthetician/care nurse May was an angel. She was open and friendly and right away took any questions I had relieving my first timer jitters. She was very confident and knowledgeable about the process and its effects so I knew from the get go I was in the right hands. I am not going to lie. By nature, thermage isn't completely pain-free. There is always a sense of warmth which shifts intensity depending on which area is being treated. I underwent laser hair removal for my chin and upper lip at Laser Away, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend it. Despite multiple sessions, I observed no noticeable reduction in hair growth. The staff attributed it to hormonal factors, prompting me to explore more. I went on hormonal birth control, ran labs with my obgyn, and went as far as going to the endocrinologist. My hormones are normal. My hair growth is also not genetically related. Regrettably, the investment did not yield the expected results, and I advise caution before opting for this service at Laser Away. read more
