We are from Southern California and are used to excellent Mexican food. We heard nothing good about Las Paloma's from locals. But it was right next to our hotel and we wanted a margarita so we decided to take our chance! Wow it was totally great!! As good as ANY So Cal Mexican restaurant! Yum! Why I have it only 4 stars... well our first margarita was great. So much so we ordered a second. Hmmm.. my second one was SO sweet it was obvious there was no to little tequila in it. I never leave reviews. Never. And if I make an exception it's on Airbnb and I always give hosts 5 stars because I know nothing in life is even close to perfect. I am leaving a review on Las Palomas because I don't know how else to deal with this experience. Oh, and I'm tired of this happening in this town. Where do I start. I'm not going to tell the whole story , I'll just hit the highlights. After waiting about 15 minutes for chips and salsa, I had to get up and find the server to ask for napkins. I told the server I spilled hoping that she would get me napkins ASAP. I waited for 15 more minutes for napkins, but ended up having to flag someone else down to ask them to please get them for me. Fast forward to ordering, which I made sure to do when she returned next, about 10 minutes later, she rushed and huffed and puffed through taking our order (and we were ordering quickly because she was making it very uncomfortable and we knew she was busy). My daughter's 17 year old friend asked for more chips and she said, with a stressed and irritated tone, "I'm really stressed right now, you need you to give me a minute". Then she came back to the table (without chips) and said oddly loudly, "we don't have black beans so I'm just going to give you pinto beans". Well, I don't mind at all, but do you really need to shout? Gordon Ramsey, we need you in Sequim! Everyone has lost their minds. I rarely eat out and I'd have to say that one of the main factors is that the customer service is TERRIBLE on the Peninsula. And here's the best part: A large family group came in about 15 minutes after us and ordered right after us and they got their food 20 minutes before us. Coming from California, I've been desperate to find some good Mexican food nearby. After trying all the local options, we've accepted that, at best, none are what we're used to....and some are just straight-up gross. But Las Palomas has won us over. The decor is due for an update, and it can feel awkwardly quiet when there's no music playing (an easy fix), but the soft tacos are tasty and the complimentary chips and (spicy!) salsa are ADDICTIVE. Plus, the staff is always very friendly and the frozen margaritas are strong and yummy. It's a great place for a group to chat and laugh and linger. ABSOLUTELY best, freshest chips I have EVER had! Im serious they were SO good! Then we got our food and it was equally awesome. It took a long time for our food to come but it was well worth it, obviously fresh! Portion sizes were good as well as prices, especially given the quality of the food. Food was awful. Chips were stale. Salsa was just crushed canned tomatoes. No flavor. Had 2 margaritas which looked nice but didn't even give me a buzz. Nachos took almost an hour to come out and were completely disgusting. They weren't even busy but had plenty of staff running around but we never got checked on until I got up and said something. Stopped in for lunch today. We had the deluxe tostada and it was delicious! The lettuce was crisp and all the ingredients were fresh. The chips were thin, crisp and warm. It seems that many of the reviewers thought they were actually in Mexico and not Sequim, WA!! I am a member of a group that meets here regularly and the staff is so helpful and accommodating. VERY efficient and gracious service. Someone criticized them for having lettuce from a bag and chicken from Costco... really? Do you expect a garden in the back and a chicken coop? This is a nice, decent restaurant. Most of our group absolutely love and regularly order the chicken tortilla soup among other items. Delicious! No, it's not authentic Mexican but you aren't in Mexico - you're in Sequim and this is a reliable place to eat with good service. I've been to and love Puerto Vallarta and where do you think they are buying their food? There's a Walmart in PV the last time I was there and I wouldn't be surprised to see a Costco there now too! In fact we stayed in a condo and shopped at the local grocery store... lots of extra protein crawling around on the produce (AKA: Cockroaches), a giant pyramid of UN-refrigerated eggs to buy from. read more

We go here at least once per week, just took my parents there yesterday and they said, "best Mexican food we've ever had." I actually like this place - yep it is Mexican food - but it is adjacent to a hotel - not in a hotel. I particularly like how the chips and salsa is always warm when they bring it out and I'm preferential to their chicken macho burritos. Happy Hour - on Fridays from 4-7? - very cheap Dos Equis and american drafts - $1.50 per large glass Also been there for a friend's birthday (this is where another local Sequim person wanted to go) - they put a huge mexican hat on the birthday person, serve a small cake, and sing happy birthday in spanish - the polaroid they take is pretty priceless read more

How is this place still in business?? We made the mistake of stopping here for lunch on our way back from Victoria. The ONE time I didn't yelp a restaurant... boy, was I sorry afterwards! When we walked in, we noticed most of the wait staff and the cooks in the kitchen were Mexican. That's always a good sign when wanting authentic Mexican food. Or so I thought. We ended up ordering two combo plates, one with two tacos and a chile relleno and the other with a taco and an enchilada. The tacos were a disaster. The shells were literally straight from a box (they tasted like cardboard), the meat was flavorless... even the lettuce appeared to be a premix right out of a bag (they seriously left the carrots in). The first few bites of the chile relleno were okay, but about halfway through it the chile disappeared and it was just the batter and egg mixture (and I think they microwaved it to heat it up?!). The enchilada was literally just plain chicken thrown into a store-bought flour tortilla and lightly sauced. This meal was so bad that after a few bites of everything we put our forks down and grimaced at one another until the bill came. We decided to try this place because it was conveniently located in the same parking lot as our hotel... and we were not disappointed. Their happy hour specials are great, and the food just as good. My husband loved their enchiladas and I was a fan of their tacos and the rice. I really enjoy eating here. The staff is kind and efficient. The margaritas are to die for, especially when they are handmade (you have to ask for that). Favorites for me are- Taco Salad w/ chicken, Jalapeño stuffed with cheese appetizer, any burrito, any enchilada and always the taquitos! They are huge and you can tell, freshly made. We eat here often. As ex-pat Californians it is one of the only Mexican restaurants here that hasn't been Washingtonized. Besides, they have Dos Equis on tap and when you order a shot of tequila you get a SHOT. read more

Very disappointing lunch - for a $25 tab (before tip), very small salad served on small plate with maybe 1/4 cup chicken and a teaspoon each of sour cream and guac, and cold enchiladas. I love this family friendly place. Tonight was the 2nd time we ate here, after a long day in the car going from the eastside to the rainforest and back. We stopped into this familiar establishment for dinner since we had such fond memories of the last time we came here per chance in passing last year. My 3 year old was extremely cranky and crying (hungry) and instead of judging or shaming us the kind waitstaff brought us age appropriate books in addition to the coloring materials. This worked and we are very grateful. The food is great, love the fresh salsa, reasonable prices, delicious margaritas, super fast, friendly, kind service with a smile. We decided to eat here because we received a ten percent off coupon when we checked into the Days Inn next door. We should have looked here first. The food was sub-par; tacos actually had an off taste, the food was bland and did not seem like it was freshly prepared, beans were surely microwaved, and the tostada was made with packaged (cabbage) salad mix on a soggy fried tortilla. After only consuming about half of our food (Yeah, we were that hungry after a day on the beaches) we ordered fried ice cream thinking that at least they couldn't mess that up. Boy, were we wrong! The "Deep fried ice cream" was a sphere of ice cream that may have seen a deep fryer some time long ago but had been kept in a deep freeze since that time. It was smothered in a "strawberry sauce" goo that barely masked the fact that the corn flake crust was soggy and tasted a bit freezer burned. This was not the worst dining experience I've ever had but it was certainly bad enough for me to want to get the word out. The only positive was that we had a really nice server who happily refilled our water glasses and cleared our plates in a timely fashion. read more

Being from Los Angeles I have had some great mexican food. I have tried all the Mexican restaurants here in Sequim, (my mother's lives here) this is the best mexican resturant period. You come for the food not the decor. Bandy the bartender makes the best margaritas around. They have been open for 23 years. I would describe this as Southern California Mexican that is outstanding and authentic. Please try you will love it. Very reasonably priced and service excellent. Service is terrific. Entrees are made with fresh ingredients, nothing canned I was told. Hot or/and mild salsa by request, and prices are reasonable. Some of the dishes are predictable but a number of them impress. Also like that the help is well treated and happy (it shows in the service).
