We love this Las Palapas! The people that work their are so kind and sweet. Usually Mimis or Carmen is our server and they are both attentive, efficient and have wonderful personalities. The food! Consistently delicious, out in a timely manner, and you can tell the cooks care about what they're serving. We especially enjoy their breakfast, but the green enchiladas are always a hit too. Taylor was great. Friendly, polite and said thank you literally every time she came to the table to check on my family. Cheese enchiladas, borracho beans and green/ red sauce were awesome. We attended a football game in New Braunfels last Friday night and were starving. Someone suggested Las Palapas. We looked and they were closing in 30 min- a big no no in my book after working at restaurants for years. We decided to walk in to check out the vibe since it was close to the stadium and there are few late night restaurants except for Whataburger (always a winner!) Looks are deceiving. It appears as a fast food/drive thru stop. After walking in and seeing other football game fans walking in and the friendly attitude of the employees, we decided to stay. Former waitresss in me - no way couldn't have been this sweet and enthusiastic about serving customers 15 min before closing. The waitress and the hostess were working together- seating, explaining they were busy and may take a second, waiting on tables, taking orders, bussing tables, and all with a smile!! Best staff ever!!! Their enchiladas were good and their bar was yummy!! We also had their nachos and they were so good after sitting at a game - hit the spot! Loved the Carne asada enchiladas. Their competitor across the parking lot, when asked for the same, could only tell me they had: "whatever was on the menu, nothing more". They offered chicken, ground beef, and fajita enchiladas none of which I wanted. What? So I drove over to Las Palapas, friendly, accommodating, and aimed to please. For the price the food is very good. Hot sauce are fresh and tasty with different heat levels for your chips or food. Serve is always excellent for inside table service. Let's just say that I am a fan of Las Palapas. Even saying that, I have to say that we have our favorite location and have only tried a few of the other locations. So tonight, we tried a new location. When we got to the restaurant, we found a very open parking lot that made us wonder "where is everybody". Then we walked in and found the same thing. At that point, we started to think maybe this was a bad idea tonight. However, a hostess greeted us immediately and was very attentive to where we would like to be seated. She took us to the seating area and obtained menus, water, chips & salsa, and utensils. Our waitress came quickly, and I wish I remembered her name. She was such a wonderful young lady and deserves recognition. She told us all about the specials for the day and for the rest of the week. We told her we would be back for the lunch special the next day:) I ordered the taco special as it was buy 2, get 1 free. She convinced me to try a taco that was different than my usual (I've looked on the menu since we ate but I didn't see it). That taco was a grilled chicken breast, quacamole, grilled onions, and cheese. The food came out quickly, and as I was starving, I attacked my food. Let me just say, this grilled chicken actually tasted like it just came off the grill(really). It was so good that I ate all my food before thinking about taking a picture. Will I return? Definitely. Stopped in for lunch on 11/30. Wanted to order soup, but before ordering, we asked if the chicken soup was made with breast or dark meat. Initially the waitress said she "believes the soup is made with white meat - breast". We asked her to please confirm as "I believe" isn't the correct response. When she returned, she said she asked both the manager and the kitchen staff and both told her the chicken and chicken tortilla soup are both made with only white meat. So, both my wife and I each ordered bowls of chicken soup. Well, guess what we received? Two bowls of chicken soup with nothing but dark meat. In addition, mine had cheese which should only come in the chicken tortilla soup. We did inform the manager of our experience and that we asked prior to ordering. Also asked him how my soup had cheese when it should've have. His response was that he needed to "yell" at the kitchen staff. He did offer to replace our order with something else, but we elected to leave. This is the second visit in a row where we received terrible service and less than acceptable food. As soon as we got to the ordering area, A joyful voice came on the intercom. He made us smile . He was positive, helpful, joyful and made us feel welcomed! We could not believe it!! NEVER EVER have we been through a drive thru and experienced someone that tried to make the customer feel so welcomed and cared for. He really cared! The potatoes were cold and tasted like stale fries but other than that, the rest was ok for a quick breakfast. I've never been to a Las Palapas before and I always hear it's ok. I'd agree with that as there are many locations. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive! She checked on us often and had a great attitude. It took about 5 min to get our order. The taco was barely warm. It was as if they took it out of the refrigerator. There was a smear of Sour cream. And the taste was nasty, as if the lettuce was soaked in bleach water. And the ground beef? Was it ground beef? Or something else? If a restaurant can not make a decent taco.... How can they possibly make anything else. The 5.00 Ground Beef Taco...Let this business fizzle out to make room for better restaurants. My dog is now burping up the taco. read more

Love their fresh tortillas and rollback specials which help my budget out when I don't feel like cooking. They have a monthly calendar of cheap rollback food specials featured on Mon and Wed. On Tuesdays they have a buy two tacos get one free and it even applies to breakfast tacos as well as lunch and dinner. Their picadillo mixture of seasoned ground beef with potatoes and bell pepper is always delicious and consistent. I like their chalupas, breakfast plates and chips and salsa. The one at Creekside is delicious! This one I stopped at the drive thru for chips and queso and a bowl. The queso was super expensive (no meat in it or anything special). It was good, though. The bowl was absolutely disgusting. No avocado like it said, super salty like salt was spilled in it. Also, the chicken fajita meat in it was so hard. My fork wouldn't even go into it. From time to time I like to take out a group of special needs adults to have Lunch. We usually try to call ahead to let a store manager know that we are coming and what day we will be coming. We told the store manager of this location that we would be there on November 6 to have lunch. Little did we know that we would be dealing with people that have no idea how to serve people. This is another restaurant in new Braunfels that likes to take advantage of special needs adults. We had one waiter that brought the food to us and made us serve it to our clients. Then charged us 18% gratuity to do his job. This waiter was also very rude to everybody at that table. The food was good. The atmosphere looked nice. The service was not so great. I don't agree with paying gratuity to people that don't deserve what they do. So we'll talk this one up to another restaurant that we will not go back to in new Braunfels, Texas with special needs adults. read more

My gripe with this particular location is when you hit the drive-thru to grab some breakfast tacos on a Saturday morning and there are only 3 customers in line you don't expect it to take 30 freakin minutes. This was not a singular event. This has occurred multiple times. These aren't hand-crafted delicacies made from the finest ingredients... we're talking about slapping some dadgum eggs on a tortilla! Major downside: 1 waitress at a time who waits tables, pulls from the bar & runs the cash register which equals to long waits.. Usually there is a manager, but seems to be mosty in the back. Tonight the family with loud crying babies broke the camels back. In my day, a parent took the child outside or to the bathroom. I don't suppose there's much we can to do about that issue.
