Bar 19 Twelve - Deviled eggs

I've been to Bar 19 twelve for drinks before and have always been impressed by its modern decor,…read morelighted bar and excellent drink selection handled by professional bartenders. Since it was my father's last night in North Myrtle Beach until September I thought it would be a great place to have our last dinner together for a while. I dialed up my app and made a 7PM reservation for three. We pulled in about 6:50 and found a spot right in front of the restaurant...it was going to be a good night. We got inside and chose to sit indoors near the bar. My father likes to see people and I felt this would be a good spot to do this and it was. The restaurant was mid century modern in design, airy and uncluttered...we were seated in a booth - chair combo that was a rendition of that style. We looked at the drink menu and my father went for a glass of Pinot Noir, his friend went for a lemon drop martini and I went for a Heineken 00. The waitress couldn't be nicer and quickly brought us our drinks. The lemon drop was perfect and served in an ice cold steel martini glass while my father was quite happy with his California Pinot. We reviewed the food menu and decided to share two "tables"...the deviled eggs and the pimento cheese dip with home made pork rinds. Within a few minutes, four deviled eggs arrived dressed up with a slice of jalapeño and sprinkled with bacon bits. A large plate of fresh pork rinds with homemade pimento cheese came out simultaneously. The deviled eggs were excellent with just the right texture and not too moist...the bacon bits added another layer of flavor and the jalapeño gave it a nice kick, however, the pork rinds and pimento cheese stole the show. The rinds were light and fluffy with just the right amount of crunch and the pimento cheese was superb...very flavorful with nice chunks of pimento and grated cheese. My father was diving in on the cheese so fast it was tough to get some. His lady friend also commented on how good it was. Next came the mains. My father settled in the American Waygu Burger with hand cut fries, I went for the lamb rack with string beans and roasted fingerling potatoes and the lady went for the Arugula salad with candied pecans, Granny Smith apples , goat cheese and craisins. My lamb was excellent...medium rare with a nice flavorful crust with a hint of garlic and herbs. The potatoes were well roasted and tasty while the string beans were cooked correctly but a tad bland. The arugula salad was delicious with a nice citrus dressing that played well with the candied pecans and craisins...the smith apples was a nice contrast. My father in the other hand, ate way too much pimento cheese and rinds and as a result just picked in his fries, which were excellent...salted well, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. He ended up taking the burger home. Amazingly, when dessert was brought up he was all in. Although known for their "Butter Cake" we decided to share(and by share I mean my father had about 90% of it) the Triple Layer Chocolate Cake. Turns out it's as good as it sounds...intense chocolate flavor in a very moist cake with vanilla ice cream and homemade whipped cream on the side...top notch. Sadly, it was getting late and my father had an early plane to catch so we got the bill(more reasonable than I expected), tipped the excellent waitress and said our good nights. We made plans to come back in September...although I'll be back well before that...Bar 19 Twelve will be going on my rotation.

Unfortunately, this dinner just added to our frustration. We had a 6:15 reservation and waited quite a while before a server arrived. When she did, she was very kind and took our drink and appetizer orders. But everything moved so slowly -- drinks and app took ages, and we placed our dinner order not long after. By 7:30, we still had no food. The server kept apologizing (she really was kind and doing her best), but it was clear something was off in the kitchen or with management. Eventually someone else came over, offered 20% off, and said our meals were "plating now" -- but that wasn't true, because we waited another 20 minutes. We were ready to cancel, and when the food finally came, I honestly couldn't enjoy it at that point. My chicken sandwich was nothing special (definitely not worth the wait), and my mom's scallops were salty and just bad. While our server was lovely, the overall experience with management and the kitchen was disappointing. Won't be back.

The outside is great for families or for a date night. They have a section where they have an outside bar so you can be by the water. They also have a small stage that I'm sure they have music outside. So we started off with drinks and some appetizers. We had the calamari, street corn dip and the margarita. We had the steak with a side order of shrimp, had the Big chill burger with an extra side the Hawaiian pasta salad and the Big Chill Island salad with chicken. Service was good. The apps were tasty and if you like spicy hot it was good. The steak and shrimp was good and flavorful, the burger was good but not the pasta salad. It was not good, that even my daughter didn't like it. As for my Big Chill Island salad was also a disappointment. Not sure what it was but the flavors just didn't go well together. I always like to give places a second try so we might come back and I will try another dish.

The fries looked and tasted like they were heated up after being cooked and sitting. Honestly, something as easy as making french fries. A $30 dish that i did not find to be even mediocre. My group ordered different plates and for the most part, no complaints but no one raved over their meal either. The drinks were good. I had the sangria and enjoyed it. The hula and fire show is good. I think that's all they have going for them. Our server (I forgot to ask his name) was good. He has an enthusiastic personality and a pleasure. Our table was right in front of the stage. No complaints there!

We were excited to try it out and made reservations a month ago for my birthday. Hostess was kind and pleasant. We were seated quickly. Our server, Nick, was very kind, knowledgeable and attentive. There were four of us, so we all tried something different. The place was very neat and clean. The tomato appetizer was small, but it exploded with taste. My wife got the Seabass and it was phenomenal. I got the pork chops and they were excellent, the best that I ever had that were not breaded. The sauce was phenomenal and it was perfect for the garlic mashed potatoes. We were looking forward most to the lobster mac & cheese, but disappointed that it was bland. We were also disappointed that they did not have the French onion soup this week. The potatoes au gratin stole the show. All four of us agreed those were the best. The polenta base under my wife's Seabass was not edible. Overall, it was a great experience and we definitely would go back and we would order the ribeye and try the other sides such as the brussels sprouts the next time. The ribeye was that great. Enjoy!!!

We left a diff restaurant with an hr+ wait bc this place supposedly only had a 20-30 min wait. We arrived, checked in and were told when one specific table leaves that we could have their table. There were other open tables but told they didn't have the staff to serve them. So we waited 30 min. and that table did leave on time. However, during that time at least 2 or 3 other parties came to the restaurant and were sat in those empty tables. We were told they had prior reservations AND that apparently they had someone already coming to fill the table we were originally promised. We could wait another 30-45 min for someone else to leave OR sit our 6 adults and 1 child separately at two high back booths with no contact. If it had been my decision I would have walked out immediately. No customer service by host or manager who came to hear it out. The rest of my party was too hungry to wait or go somewhere else so they sat separate and ate. I refused to give them my business and never will. VERY POORLY MANAGED and it obviously starts at the front of the house. My wife had the apricot salmon ($28) its was extremely bland. My 5 yr old son had shrimp and fries ($14!!) which were extremely mediocre at best. I've had better at Culver's. Restaurant looks poorly organized. Needs a renovation, and OBVIOUSLY some new staff who know how to provide customer service in a service industry. Ambiance was like a dive bar trying to serve food to survive. They won't be around long.
