Certainly!…read more Today was opening day at **El New Pueblito** in Loris, South Carolina, and I had the opportunity to stop in for lunch. The restaurant is conveniently located on Highway 9 Business (Loop Highway) with plenty of easy parking in the front, plus additional parking in the rear. The building has a fresh, clean exterior that's easy to spot from the road. Walking inside, you're greeted by a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Beautiful hand-carved benches, colorful tablecloths, and handcrafted wooden tables with vibrant painted details give the dining room a genuine charm. You can tell a lot of care went into creating the space. This is a family-run restaurant, and while they're just getting started, they shared that beer, wine, and a full bar are planned for the future. They also have a nice selection of Mexican snacks, candies, peanuts, and both American and Mexican soft drinks available for purchase. I ordered the **pork skin tacos**. These aren't the crispy style--they feature soft pork skin with the fat perfectly rendered until it's rich, silky, and almost gelatinous. The texture was outstanding and paired perfectly with the warm tortillas. I topped mine with their **green sauce**, and it absolutely made the meal. It delivers just enough heat to let you know it's there, then gently tapers off, leaving behind a wonderfully balanced flavor. The heat never overpowers the food--it simply complements it. Everything I watched leave the kitchen looked fantastic, and every table around me appeared to be thoroughly enjoying their meals. Another thing that stood out was the number of Hispanic families dining there--a good sign that they're serving authentic, home-style Mexican cuisine. They even had the World Cup playing on multiple large-screen televisions, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. If you're anywhere near Loris, South Carolina, and looking for authentic Mexican food, I highly recommend giving El New Pueblito a try. Based on my first visit, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I have a hard time believing that people can't be a little forgiving until restaurants, stores, and motels get back to a full staff. It's where we are as a nation right now. We really liked this place a few years ago. However, it seems to have taken a nose dive lately…read more Our party ordered 3 entries & 1 appetizer. They table server was pleasant & did ok taking down & noting our dietary restrictions. It seems that the kitchen ignored our requests. In reflecting, they messed up on each of the 4 dishes out of 4. To start, They didn't bring any chips for the app (a dip - c'mon, how can you have a dip w/o chips. ). We asked for no cheese on 1 entree & it was smothered (you guessed it - in cheese). Then there were the enchiladas which were supposed to have a chocolate mole sauce. Well, it was tomato based. Lastly, I had 3 tacos in corn tortillas (I'm celiac). I even noted that to the server. Only 1 of the 3 was corn. SO THANKFUL I caught it before swallowing my first bite! He brought some corn ones shortly. So if you don't mind not getting what you pay for, go for it. The food did taste good but it wasn't what we ordered. My poor Wife was up during the night for a few hours burping b/c of the cheese.

This is not a 4.5-star restaurant as the reviews would indicate. On a good day 4 stars. I read…read moreall the reviews and was excited - and I will tell you this - the ambiance and the watermelon mint margherita were on point. That drink was amazing. My wife's burrito was as good as you can get at any Mexican restaurant but not really better. I was pretty excited to try the chicken mole because so many reviews were talking about how authentic this restaurant was. When I first got the dish I tried the mole sauce. In my experience a good mole sauce is something that is a passed down for generations with a complex and unique flavor and a minor unsweetened dark chocolate undertone. This mole was not all that flavorful - was somewhat cold and painted over a fried 1/2 chicken. I was going to power through it and this may have been a four-star review - but when I peeled back the breast part of the chicken it was really cold - like refrigerator cold - almost frozen. Not undercooked - cold. This tells me that I was eating a meal that was prepared in advance and then re-heated. I will say that the server was excellent - and when I returned the dish he handled it like a pro, I ended up getting a different dish that was pretty solid - nothing exceptional. I haven't returned a dish in years and was happy with how this process went. I did get comped one of those excellent watermelon drinks which made me happy. All in all - I will probably go again - but I would probably only go to the bar for the drinks and ambiance. I'd give 3.5 stars - but cannot give 4 stars.

The carnitas, my go to at Mexican restaurants, we're the best I had. My wife loves birrias and it was excellent as well. We had Street corn, cachete tacos. The selection ran from mild to spicy (habenero) with all the salsa carrying great flavor. A hidden gem was the pickled onions that held some spice as well. It paired wonderfully with the carnitas. Great selection of Mexican beers and an in-house sangria. This is a great choice it you are in the mood for a more authentic Mexican food experience.

Fortunately, the new owners do too. As always, I ordered the authentic tacos; however, the cilantro they contained was mostly yellow. Otherwise, they were okay. Still what has mostly impressed me over the years was the general freshness of everything. The empanadas were still tasty, as were the chicken, black beans and rice. It seems that the place has been refreshed a bit by the new ownership. Of course, prices have increased significantly too. Overall, the food is still good, the new owners are very friendly and we still like this place and hope to return again next summer.
